Help! I need more details on doing a clean install of 10.7.3

I have a late 2008 mac book pro, intel 2.4ghz processor dual core, 4gb of RAM. It came with Leopard, I upgraded to Snow Leopard and just recently to Lion. Since upgrading to Lion, my system runs very slow, takes for ever to boot and hangs often requiring me to force shutdown (hold power button down). I did a time machine back up before and after the upgrade and have both on an extermal drive. I want to reformat and start over and I've found a few articles on doing this using the recovery HD. I have a few questions I'm hoping somone can answer:
1 - If I format and reinstall 10.7.3 using disk utility in recovery mode, I'm just going to have LION running on my system. I'll of course need to get all my data reloaded (hopefully via my time machine backup) and I'm pretty sure I'll be missing things like iLife apps (garage band, iphone, imovie etc..). So, if using my time machine backup will it restore all my apps and data? Can I pick and choose or is it all or nothing? Do I need to download new versions of iLife apps? I'd appreciate any and all help and info here.
2 - I'm contemplating replacing the hard drive as part of this process as my gut tells me I will go through some painful process to rebuild my system and the hard drive will fail. I downloaded 10.7.3 again and followed a procedure where I opened the package contents and burned the install.dmg file to a DVD. Can anyone provide a link to an article or some tips on loading LION from DVD to a new drive. Wouldn't I need to burn an ISO so I can boot from DVD and then start disk utility? Any help here is also greatly appreciated.

Lion is too much for that old box, I don't recommned most 10.5 era machines to go 10.7 on them.

Yes to a new 10.7 install, but not a 10.7 TM to a new 10.6 install since you tainted TM with Lion
don't take that chance, save files to a storage drive too. TM is a trap.

Can anyone provide a link to an article or some tips on loading LION (Recovery) from (USB) to a new drive.
Do this before erasing Lion cakes, then new drive then use the USB to install Recovery, then Recovery to install Lion cakes, then new user, same user name, install programs, return files from external drive by hand = fresh install, no crap.

I'm not familiar with what MCP or MCT voltage is, but I think it's an nvidea thing.
here's a few tips that I've found on oc'ing the 790gx platinum:
Disable Cool & Quiet & C1E.
Disable Spread Spectrum.
Enable HPET. (High Precision Event Timer)
Don't enable the OC option for the onboard graphics. (Should'nt be a problem for your system, since your have an Nvidea GFX card)
I seem to get better results with ACC Disabled, but others have reported some benefit from it set to auto or in the + range.
You may find that bumping up the CPU-NB voltage a little bit may help, but it's dependant on cpu voltage too.
Keep your NB and HT speeds close to stock by reducing their multipliers as needed, OC'ing them won't give you any better performance and it can cause a lot of uneeded problems.
As you start to OC your system, only increase voltages as you neeed to, otherwise leave them on auto or at their recommended settings.
Be sure you start with a completely stable system, Memtest & Prime 95 are your friends (see stickies)! and check your system stability as you go.
Watch your system temperatures, and know the recommended temperature limits for your components. (processor, northbridge, gfx card, etc.

   A nephew stayed with us to take a course at the local community college last semester. I allowed him use of my mac for research just after I installed Mountain Lion. He decided to "help out" and ran a 3rd party clean and tune up app., Magician. The tune up wiped over 1200 titles of my music in iTunes, also a path of folders with names containing nothing but more empty folders with names. Almost every program I open and run for a short time crashes, also folders and programs are in wrong places, or cannot be located (the nephew, for instance). Up to this time I have always been able to track a problem far enough to resolve it by careful persistence and good luck, but I do not have the tech savvy to solve this one without getting in deeper. I have run disk utility saveral times and always get variations of this:
ACL found but not expected on
"private/etc/resolve.conf"
"private/etc/raddb/sites-enabled/inner-tunnel"
"private/etc/rabbd/sites-enabled/control-socket"
     Also, after four years of intense daily use it is cluttered with much junk, and every app that I was curious about, and I am a very curious guy.
   So I know my limits, (and now my nephew). I dumped my pc for a Strawberry iMac a few years ago, and so far every problem I've encountered, or brought on myself, the Mac has resolved with its own inner elegance - in spite of my novice bungels - and now I honestly feel ashamed, in addition to the need to apologize to a machine for allowing a peasant into the Royal Grounds - so I am calling the Wise Ones in for this one.
   Crazy, I know, but to me a Mac represents something far beyond the ordinary input ➛ process ➛ output title/function customarily assigned to a machine - I sense an odd kind of morality involved, one that I need to respect.
    So, these are my reasons for wanting to do a clean install, correctly.

Advice Needed - Should I just do a Clean Install?

I've got an older 17" iMac FP that I handed down to the kids (6 and 9). The mainly use Garageband and Pages. Since this was my original machine (before getting my new 20" iMac G5) I decided to leave my account on there, just for a backup. Lately they've been getting lots of "Program quit unexpectedly" on lots of apps, including Garageband, iTunes, TextEdit, and Marble Blast Gold. Things have gotten worse since the 10.4.7 upgrade. I just ran a "fix permissions" and "Verify Disk" all looked good. The machine is in good shape, lots of RAM and about 15G of disc space available.
So, what's my question... I've been thinking of just starting over; doing a clean install. This machine was originally upgraded from 10.2.8 directly to 10.4.x. I just think that maybe starting from a clean disk would help things out.
Some questions. What is the best way to backup the kids accounts? I have a FW drive connected to it, so I can back up stuff to it. I really don't want a "clone" just a decent backup. Also, is it a good idea to delete my and my wife's user accounts (I hear a disk image of each account is created). I could copy those over to the FW just as insurance. I've been moved over to the new G5 for about 3 months now, so I'm pretty sure I got everything over. But you know what happens, as soon as I wipe the old system I will discover I am missing something form the old machine.
What do you all suggest I do? I realize that even after wiping the drive I will probably end up with 10.4.7 after all is said and done. I just think that a clean system may be a good start.

2. I trust you've enabled Parental Controls, Simple Finder, etc. to keep the children from discarding system-related files? I presume they do not know the Admin password on that computer and their accounts are not set up as Admin, yes?

I really don't want a "clone" just a decent backup."The advantage of duplicating (cloning) is that if you decide to reinstall Tiger from scratch, you can restore their accounts simply using the Migration Assistant from the clone on the FireWire drive after you've set up the an Admin account for yourself to manage their Mac. It's a little-known fact that you can use the Migration Assistant to migrate from an a duplicate of the startup disk of an "old" Mac on a FireWire drive vs. Target Disk mode.
That would also settle the question of saving a backup of your account and your wife's account on that computer for the time being. At some point you could startup from that clone, then use the instructions in "Mac OS X 10.4 Help: Deleting a user account" to delete those accounts from the clone and move the disk images for such to another drive on your new Mac. Note that if one of the accounts you are deleting from such is the only Admin account, you may want to first create another Admin account on the clone and use it to delete-and-preserve your account and that of your wife as you need to use an Admin account to remove accounts.
For advice on the backup and recovery solution I employ, see my "Backup and Recovery" FAQ.
4. If you're going to perform a full, fresh reinstall of Tiger on your children's computer, I also recommend — after cloning the drive and assuring you have good, bootable clone — to first "zero" the drive to remove any bad sectors that may have developed. See "Disk Utility 10.5 Help: Securely erasing disks." Select at least the "Zero Out Data" security option.
5. FYI: If your children access the Internet, see my "Internet Safety for Children" FAQ for my advice on protecting your children on the Internet. This FAQ lists some Mac-based solutions, tips I have suggested in prior posts, and a list of links for additional information.

Need to A & I or do Clean Install - How to Save iLife?

Hello All,
Had some problems on the computer and I now need to perform A & I at a minimum, but since I have an external I figure I might as well just back up my files and once and for all perform a clean install (since I upgraded from Tiger to Leopard without doing a clean install).
Questions regarding this:
I assume I cannot just drag iLife apps onto the external and then drag them back? True?
If I need to reinstall them, how do I do so (I don't even remember if they came on a separate disc when I bought the computer or if they were integrated into the Tiger install disk?)
How about the iphoto library? Do I just copy over the iPhoto Library folder and then everything will work A-OK?

The iLife package is on your 1st install disk that came with your Mac. Insert it while running Leopard and a window will pop up. Choose install bundled software. Then do a custom install of the package so you can choose what all you want put back on Leopard.
How about the iphoto library? Do I just copy over the iPhoto Library folder and then everything will work A-OK?

Will doing a clean install of Lion fix hangs?

Since upgrading to Lion I have had my share of crashes with mail especially and since doing the update to 10.7.1 my Macbook Pro is locking up with white screens, won't wake from sleep and crashing all over the place. Oh yea and Safari is hanging too.
I have used Lion Cache Cleaner to run maintenence scripts and it helped slightly so I was wondering if a clean install will help or if I just need to downgrade to Snow Leopard until they get the bugs worked out.

Just because someone says they had success does not mean you will, and just because someone says that a clean install of Lion didn't do the trick for them doesn't mean it won't for you. You don't know what they did or didn't do and how their situation was different from yours.
There are no guarantees without knowing what's going on. I can tell you that what you're experiencing is not normal. I cannot, based on what you shared, tell you what's causing your problems. What's important for you to understand is that, for a variety of technical reasons, a system that was not having any problems before can fail dramatically following a major upgrade, but due to no fault of the upgrade's. You could have a hardware issue that Snow Leopard just never tripped on. You could have some corrupt system files that will be fixed by a reinstall. You could have bad third-party software that is horribly incompatible with Lion. There are just too many variables.
Ultimately it's certainly your right to choose to downgrade to Snow Leopard. However, sooner or later you're going to have to either deal with Lion or switch to Windows or Linux. I'd strongly advise trying to get your system to work with Lion, since it's working quite well for many people.

Keep iWork when doing a clean install?

I am going to be doing a clean install of Mountain Lion when it comes out. I currently have iWork installed on my MBP. I installed it off a disk and not from the app store. I was wondering if there is a way to backup iWork so that when I do a clean install I can keep using them without having to pay again. Thanks for any help.

IMHO I would classify that as a waste of time and a chance for more problems then it solves.
Just backup and upgrade.
From the sounds of your comments it doesn't sound like you are backing up at the currect time. To me that sounds like a much more serious problem thwen any of the one you are worried about.
For the uograde a backup to DropBox would be worthless. If something goes wrong and your Mac can boot from the disk because of it, how are you going to get to DropBox to recover?
Hence the reason I always create a bootable clone to recover my system with a simple reboot. At least my Mac is running on everything as it was before I started the upgrade until I can figure out what went wrong.

Doing a clean install of OS 10.3.9 on Imac which has OS 9.* installed

I have decided to purchase and install 256 Meg of dram. After that I will install OS 10.3.9, which is the highest OS I can install on this Imac.
In view of the Imacs current state, not booting up due to an error, should I expect any problems in loading the new software? Will the new software install clean off all of the old OS files?( I do not need any of the files which were on the Imac)
Please let me know any tips you have for doing a clean install of the new operating system.

The Error was just 41, not -41. It was a sychronization error, as I recall. The solution proposed was to either remove a specific file from the system folder, or do a clean install. Since I could not get to the aforementioned systems folder, because of the error, I decided on a clean install of the new operating system, hence my question regarding the new install. The new dram I am installing should preclude one of your concerns, and the success of the system bootup to the point of the error 41 would lead me to believe that the hard disk is functioning properly.
That in mind, I would still like to know if there are any issues which should be anticipated in doing a clean install of an OS 10.3.9 OS, and whether the install will clean off all old files. I did not receive any disks with the Imac, so , all cleanup and boot up will have to be done from the new operating system disks.

How do I import my address book after doing a clean install of Leopard?

I just finished doing a clean install of Leopard and I realized that I forgot to export an Address book archive before erasing my hard drive. I still have all the Address Book files stored in Application Support in my Library (on my backup hard drive) but I don't know how to get those files into Address Book. Whenever I try the different import options they are all grayed out.
I also have the Address Book files stored on my iPod Touch but syncing with my Touch doesn't seem to bring them into my computer. Is there anything I can do at this point besides entering them in one at a time?! Copying and pasting the files from the backup to the current folder doesn't seem to do any good either. It will tell me that the files I am trying to write over and in use. It says this even after I close Address Book.

Ok, I got is to work by selecting the folder itself and copying it over. Aparently it does work if you open the folder, select all the contents and then paste it. I didn't think it would matter which way you did it.

Haven't a clue what an ios is, but reinstalling SL, Lion, or ML replaces all OS components and the basic Apple apps, such as TextEdit, Safari, Mail, and Terminal. What it doesn't do is touch any user data, settings, or other apps.

CC & CS4 - I'm doing a clean install of Mavericks

I'm doing a clean install of Mavericks on my Macbook Pro soon - no particular reason, just time to clean out the clutter. Currently I have both CS4 and CC on my laptop but don't plan on reinstalling CS4 after the clean install. However, if somewhere down the road (say 5 years from now) I decided to opt out of CC will I be able to install CS4?

Will there still be snow in Alaska in 5 years? Who's to say. By that time there could be a million technical reasons making it impossible to install these versions from Adobe no longer providing activation servers to OSX having devolved even further into an iOS clone. You're realyl asking something that even Adobe can't answer...

Does a clean install really speed up your Mac?

I did a clean install on my iMac and it was running extremely fast. I have now restored some applications from TM and things seem to be slowing down.
Was it worth doing a clean install?

my mini was extremely fast right after i started using it and for the first 4 or 6 months of use.
now it seems almost as slow as my Cube.
and i don't have a lot of applications instaled or third-party preference panes or small utilities.

We are running ACE 8.00c.05. I have questions regarding the DPV Summary section of the .ajs report. My predecessor was using the data values to report out an overall DPV rate of our mailing. I would to make sure that we are working on the correct set of addresses that will have maximum effect on the DPV rate. My questions to that end are:
1. Where can I get more information on the columns and thier meanings?
2. How can I identify the 105 records that are listed as "Total Not Confirmed."
Any and all help is appreciated!

Information about the Job Summary Report as well as all the other reports can be found in the ACE documentation which should have accompanied your ACE product during the installation. However, if you cannot locate the documentation for whatever reason, additional copies of the documentation can be downloaded from http://help.sap.com.
There are a few different ways to identify records which are tagged as not DPV confirmed records. The easiest way is to post the ap.dpv_status field in your ACE job. This will tell you straight away if the record is DPV confirmed it will post a "Y" and if it is not will post "N".
If you would like further information about what I have described above in more detail, please open a support incident within Service Marketplace and ensure you use the component EIM-COR and an engineer will be happy to assist you in more detail regarding any further questions you have on this subject. Additionally, when you open an incident, you will have an opportunity to search our extensive knowledge base which may answer many of the questions you have on this subject.

and now - i have problam. i need more transitions (the same like premiere elements, and more)
but i dont have idea from where download !! or how install this....

First, there are Transitions and Effects on the PC, that do not exist on the Mac. This LIST is from CS4, but will give you an idea. Not sure why it is so bad, when viewed in a browser, but you might want to open it in PS, or another image viewer.
With PrE, there are NewBlue FX Transitions, that are not in PrPro, for either platform. I do not know if NewBlue FX work on a Mac.
There are also many Transitions available at several 3rd party sites, like Pixelan, ProDAD and others. Again, I do not know about X-platform compatibility.
Is there a particular Transition, that you are looking for?
