Help! I need to recover "lost" aif tracks

I've looked for topics that might help me with my problem, but I haven't seen anything that matched.
Here's what happened: I recorded a podcast with three tracks (using a mixer -- I've done this many, many times with no problem), and at the end of the recording (after stopping and saving) I clicked some button that made the spinning beach ball appear (I think I hit the "go to beginning of track" button, but this explains nothing). While waiting I may have accidentally clicked another button. Anyway, the three tracks I had just recorded and saved disappeared. GarageBand would NOT let me undo whatever I had done, and when I went to quit it did NOT ask if I wanted to save changes. I quit and restarted GarageBand, and the tracks were still missing.
At this point, I assumed all hope was lost. BUT! When I "get info" on the .band file, it shows that the file is a little over 500MB (the recording was about half an hour, so this is the size it should be), and even more interestingly, when I copy the file to another drive, the progress window shows that it is copying three .aif files ("Recording#01.aif" "Recording#02.aif" and "Recording#03.aif" -- one for each track). So I know those tracks are in there somewhere, I just can't access them or get them to appear in GarageBand.
Does anyone have any ideas to help me get these aif files out of the .band file? I looked all over for some kind of extraction program, but the only one I found (BandToLogic) I could not get to run. Any help, ideas, suggestions, hunches, suspicions welcome! I am desperate to recover this podcast, which is an interview that cannot be redone! Thank you in advance.

glad to hear it worked for you and you were able to rescue your work, a working solution is always the best news to hear in a thread
however be cautious with this knowledge ... this was an extreme case, you couldn't have really broken what was already broken. messing with the package contents of a working file puts the integrity of that file at risk, and it's possible to break a file and lose a lot of work

Help! Need to recover lost hard drive data after creating a partition!

So, I'm the world's biggest idiot, and I was trying to reformat my hard drive so that I could bring the documents from my Mac to my PC.
All of the docs were perfectly organized in folders and subfolders a long time ago, and once that had been done, I deleted everything off of the MacBook itself. I never thought I'd have to move all of the docs to a PC, but alas, nothing ever goes the way we plan now does it?
Anyways, I created a FAT 32 partition not realizing it would delete everything I already had on the hard drive, so now I need to recover all of that.
Is there ANY way that I can recover all the data I lost?

When you create a partition, the partition is the erased so all content is lost. There are data recovery services that may be able to recover the material, but they are very, very expensive, if they can even succeed with this kind of erasure.
Check and see if there are any hard drive data recovery services in your area.

HELP please, need to recover lost photo.

Recently uploaded a group of pictures from my camera, deleted the originals from my camera after uploading them. When reviewing them I was looking at a really great family photo that I took, only one like it. And of course instead of pressing escape to get out of the full screen mode, I pressed delete and the picture seems to be gone for good. I tried using a recovery program that recovers deleted photos from your cameras memory card. It recovered a lot of deleted photos, but none of them from the batch I recently took and uploaded. Is there anyway I can get it back? It didn't go to my Trash.

Look in the iPhoto trash (on the left near the top of the source pane under "recent")
Unless you have emptied the iPhoto trash since you deleted your family photo all of your deleted photos will be there

Can someone please recommend me a FREE software which will allow me to recover deleted date.
It needs to be Mac compatible.
Even if it's a FREE trial software which will let me recover 1 file 1 by 1 that's fine too as I only need to recover about 4 5 files.

Help, Is there anyway to "unsave" slides....Need to recover lost work.

HELP! Is there anyway to "unsave". I accidently hit save on the wrong keynote file I had open and it overwrote all the slides I had done up to that point. A ton of lost work.

As long as the file is still open, you should be able to "undo" past the save point. Once you've saved the file and reopened, though, that information is no longer available in memory.

Help needed to recover lost photos, please!

Please help! All 49,537 photos in our iPhoto library have suddenly disappeared. A hopeful fact is that the 512 gigs they recently filled has not reappeared on Finder as available space. Might someone out there in the ether be able to help? Please?

If your profile is correct about the library and system versions apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager 3.8.6 and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

IMAC deleted all photos, itunes library, and other files! need help on how to recover lost files. everything else is working fine.

After installing the current update for the Mac I noticed that all my pictures, Itunes library and some apps and other files disapeared from the computer. Anyone know any voodoo to bring them back?

HELP! Can I recover lost photos?

I seem to have lost nearly 6 months worth of photos from my Library. My photos are stored on a separate internal drive and are backed up to a removable external drive. I think that I backed up the Library from the external to the internal instead of the other way around. Is there any way to recover the files that were deleted? Is there a "backup' or older "Library" version hidden somewhere on my computer that I could reload from?

A deep slow scan using a data recovery app is your best bet. VirtualLab is great because it will let you perform the scan to determine what it can recover before you buy:

There are other similar apps out there. The very best ones are in the gov sector and can't be used by civilians.
Keep in mind, that with data recovery, your file names may be lost - yet the files may be recoverable. So if your looking for specific file names - you may not see them. This doesn't mean the data can't be recovered. Focus on the file types only.
Also, this stuff takes a very long time. You will probably need to let it scan overnight.

HELP! How to recover lost data for a 7 month period?

I was doing my usual daily syncing (via USB cable) between my Zire 21 to my iMac OSX ver. 10.4.11 and then I noticed that my data disappeared from Feb 18 to Sept 19 2008....
I have my PalmDesktop ver 4.1 data on my iMac since 1998 - it is my diary of my life & work.
What happened? I cannot seem to find a way to recover this data....I would appreciate help to recover or even an explanation why that period of time disappeared.....

Need to recover lost Windows license associated with HP laptop

I have a HP G71-340US. I installed a separate copy of Windows 7 onto the laptop. I wish to find my Windows Product ID number (Serial Number) from my set of install disks which I've lost. Is there some way to send my laptop serial number in (CNF94607F9) and obtain the Windows Product ID number so I can use the license I own by virtue of my purchase of that laptop?

If you wiped clean the original O/S then your only chance is the Product Key sticker on the bottom side of the laptop to activiate your Windows otherwise you will have to order the REcovery media to restore your system back to factory setup.

I checked boxes of emails in Junk foolder as "not junk" and befre they had successfully gone to inbox, must have clicked "empty" in Junk box. These emails which I wanted to read in my inbox have disappeared and never made it to inbox. How can I recover them? I'm desperate!

Sorry, I have no idea why someone would refer you to Firefox support for an issue with Hotmail / Outlook.com support. Firefox just displays the data that is stored at Hotmail, thru the Outlook.com interface; Firefox stores nothing - no emails, no folders, or anything. The only thing Firefox stores is a cache of what has been viewed at Outlook.com. You could try clearing the "cache" & cookies to see if that helps you.

To clear cache and cookies do the following:
#Click the menu button [[Image:New Fx Menu]] and click History button, and then Clear Recent History... .
#Under "Time range to clear", select "Everything".

Do the contacts actually exist on the computer? If so, plug the device in and tell iTunes to sync the contacts to the device.

I accidentally erased some of my cards in address book on my computer. They are on the .mac address book. How do I get the .mac address book to sync with my computer address fok and restore the lost material?

Those devices record in h.264.mov - usually fully compatible in MacOS.
my assumption is, that the recovered file somehow 'lacks' bits&pieces (pun intended).
Damaged mov are really tricky - inside such a file is a complex structure, if something is kaputt, the whole video is damaged.
Only solution which comes to my mind:
• try to open the file in Mpeg Streamclip ... does it show anything?
• finally VLC - it virtually opens 'anything' ... if this doesn't display anything, I'm afraid, the file is too corrupted..
if any of these tools show content, there's hope to 'transform' it into usable...

Help, Help! Need to recover a file! Where do autosaved Excel files go?

So, I am using my grilfriend's Mac iBook G$ while my PC gets repaired. I was entering data into Excel for my Masters and accidently entered new data into a couple of boxes with data already in them, wiping out those numbers (but ii wasn't sure which ones I had changed, making all my data suspect). I thought that I had just saved my info, and so I figured the easiest thiing to do would be to quit, hiit 'don't save' and then reopen, which i thought would bring up the file as it was before I entered the incorrect data.
Except...
II hadn't saved for a long time, it seems, II guess I goot too caught up in my work and a lot of time had passed. Anyway, autosave was one, but since I shut thhe fiile myself, it diidn't reopen too the save version.
My question is: When it autosaves, dooes Excell create a new file somewhere, and, if so, does that file still exist soomewhere on the hard drive (I know how to find it on the PC, but not a Mac).
