HELP! I tried installing new printer software. The progress screen stayed at 0% so I forced quit. But the installing drivers screen remained. I manually shut off the computer. When I restarted it went from start up screen to terminal with multiple errors.
The final message says (my-name-computer):/I have no name!
I tried safe start but it just shuts down after the start ip screen.
I tried starting with the OS disk in but didn't help.
Please someone help!
Oh Oh, you may need a stronger Disk Repair tool, or the DRive may be dying!
You must repair the HD, your best bet is likely DiskWarrior.

You must repair the HD, if Disk Utility or fsck should fail to repair it, your best bet is DiskWarrior from Alsoft, you'll need the CD to boot from if you don't have another boot drive...

Hello - just bought my first new iMac and an HP B110 wireless printer. Printer connected and basic printing fine - but the HP software on CD that allows you to add utilities to configure printer for double-sided printing etc does not appear to install. Installing the same CD on a windows machine makes all the HP utilities available - but they just don't install or even get prompted for installation when put into the Mac? After the installation, I worked on the computer for about an hour. I was listening to a music video when the sound stopped but the video continued. When I shut down for the night I could not exit normally--had to pull the plug. When I turned it on this morning, the initial screen came on along with all my shortcut icons and the start button. I cannot open my home page nor any of the programs. Therefore, I cannot access anything which might help to make an adjustment or a deletion. I am writing this on my laptop--cannot automatically receive anything on the desktop.
Can you clarify - are you able to launch applications other than Firefox, or can you not open anything at all on your computer?
If it's the latter, where did you download your copy of Firefox? -
I was wondering if there is a way to shut off the install mode on my G3 every time I plug in the USB to my Mac. I have an android manager software Mobile Go that this seems to be preventing it from connecting

What you are able to adjust is the USB connection mode by going to the home screen and selecting'recent apps' (in the touch keys bar), settings,storage, the menu (the 3 tiny dots) and tap usb pc connection. If you do not want the software to try and install choose either the internet connection or camera option. Let us know if this helps.

Trying to install new printer on Mac Snow Leopard. Instructions are only for Windows. How do I get started installing the software?
You'll need to find the drivers. I found the imageclass 4890 OS X 10.6 drivers here, but didn't find 4880 drivers. Check the global Canon web sites.

due to the virus attack i had to format my windows laptop...now when i installed new itunes software i had to sync my ipod touch again but it says that if i do it then the data present on my ipod touch will be erased as it is syncd to some older library... how should i protect my ipod touch data?
With all you media (apps, music) in the iTunes library connect the iPod to the computer and make a backup. Do that by right clicking on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and select Back Up. Then restore the iPod from that backup.
Note the the iPod backup that iTunes makes does not included synced media like apps and music. -
I'm new to the MAC world. I turned my computer on from 'sleep' mode, and a window was up stating that the IOS disk was full; asked me to force quit, then it just froze. It's been 2 hours. Help! I'm worried about losing photos/videos of my children. Im not sure if there's something special I need to do once I turn it back on; in the meantime, its still on... which I'm afraid the picture on the screen will burn into the screen. Try a hard reset. ( holding Power til it restarts)
Once to your desktop. Click the Apple icon >> About this mac >> More info>> Storage
Once you see what you have the most of. Try to see what you can delete.
Open up any folder>>all files>> or buy an external to store more data.
Once deleting make sure you empty your trash.
If you are new and its a new computer, you might need to bring it to a store for further assistence.

After the update, the printer prints correctly, but scanning from the Print and Scan, Preview or Image Capture fails with "Waiting for scanner" followed be "Failed to open a session on the device." Followed by the device disappears form ImageCapture.
I've tried restarting to the computer and printer and plugging it into another USB port - the results are the same. Printer utility hangs too.
Solutions?did you try this:
Place the item that you want to scan on the scanner glass, or load it into the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) if your printer has one.
In the Applications folder or from the Dock, click Preview.
From the Preview File menu, select Import from Scanner.
Select your printer from the list. The details of the scan display.
If a 'Software for this device is not installed' message displays after you select your printer, click Install, and then follow the instructions to complete the installation.
Click Show Details to view scan settings and options.
NOTE: Make sure that you select either the Flatbed mode or theDocument Feeder mode, depending on your printer and how you plan to scan.
Change any settings as necessary, and then click Scan.

OK I have a Toshiba Satellite L300 Laptop and ever since I installed a printer software on Wednesday night, my laptop has suddenly stopped working!
Ever since Thursday night, I have been trying to get it working but I'm faced with this message:
when i load it up it goes to Windows error recovery:
'windows has failed to start.a recent hardware or software change might be the cause
if windows files have been damaged or configured incorrectly,startup repair can help diagnose and fix the problem.if power was interrupted during startup,choose start windows normally'
then it gives two options: Launch startup repair (recomended)
start windows normally

-so i click launch startup repair (reccomended)
-then a scren loads up called 'system recovery options'.. it says: select an operating system to repair and click next.only windows vista operating systems are listed and can be repaired
if you do not see your operating system listed, click load drivers to load drivers for your hard disks'.....
but nothing comes up so i click load drivers and it just gives me loads of random folders...and i haven't a clue which ones to load

startup repair says it cannot manually fix any problems
-system restore just says your computer is in a limited state and performing this action cannot be changed...but there is no option to do so
-windows comple pc restore says i need to insert a backup disk which I dont have
windows memory diagnostics tool says that windows is preventing this

but on the system resotre it tells me to type something like: rstrui.exe /OFFLINE:C:\Windows
but i don't know where...i typed it in the command prompt but don't understand how to use it

Hi, help please. My all in one printer worked fine in windows 8 but since upgradeing to 8.1 it doesn't. I have unistalled the software and run the "Scrubber". Installed new version software OJ_AIO_J4500_Full_Win_WW_140_404. but it fails at the final hurdle. The auto download support tool is just rubbish and doesn't work depsite running it several times. Can any one help please. I just don't understand why it works in W8pro but not W8.1Pro. My system is 64 bit and I am using the right version of the software down load. URGENT. Paul

I noticed you have upgraded to Windows 8.1 from Windows 8 and are having an issue reinstalling your Officejet J4580.
I have looked into this issue and I have found a troubleshooting guide for you to follow that I will post below. There may be a firewall or a start-up program preventing the installation from completing.

I am on Acrobat DC trial. On earlier versions have no problem with duplex printing. Now with DC, it's impossible. I have tried downloading latest printer software, etc, etc. Nothing seems to0 work. Any ideas please?
Ralph, Thanks for replying. There where no received SIP messages at all just the INVITE being sent but I have made some more progress. The mini does indeed just work. I can do everything that you are supposed to do to other ichat users on the internet. Very nice.
The imac is still playing up but I have got further. I had peerguardian2 installed which unknown to me doesn't need to be running to prevent you for accessing 'barred' IP addresses. snatmap.mac.com is barred in the lists! I discovered this when I saw one of your other posts showed how to turn on terminal logging for ichat. Now that I have turned off peerguardian2 (using the disable filters option) I can make calls to the testbot and see the adverts. I have even done a video conference with the two testbots. I will just uninstall peerguardian2.
However, I can not get a AV chat working to a real user....

The ichat bandwidth limit is set to "none". I am in New Zealand and I have standard ADSL (not ADSL2+) 7.6M down 512K up. The mini config is also set to none.
Internet sharing is off.
I have had parallels on the machine but the two interfaces that it installed "Parallels Host-Guest" and "Parallels NAT" are configured 'off' and show as not connected. Is this enough? I will uninstall parallels and see if that helps since I don't use it. I also have VMware's thing installed but that doesn't seem to add any interfaces.
I need to capture a full trace of the imac to other ichat user to see what is happening but will update when I have does your suggested changes or have a trace

Try to install new itunes software on my Windows XP system. Stop installing with the message cannot deinstall old version of Bonjour.msi. What to do? Cleaned already registry.

BerndDownload the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from the following page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):

To install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Bonjour entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another install. Does it go through this time? -

I have had a similar problem with my system. I just recently (within a week of this post) built a brand new desktop. I installed Windows 7 64-bit Home and had a clean install, no problems. Using IE downloaded an anti-virus program, and then, because it was the latest version, downloaded and installed Firefox 4.0. As I began to search the internet for other programs to install after about maybe 10-15 minutes my computer crashes. Blank screen (yet monitor was still receiving a signal from computer) and completely frozen (couldn't even change the caps and num lock on keyboard). I thought I perhaps forgot to reboot after an update so I did a manual reboot and it started up fine.
When ever I got on the internet (still using firefox) it would crash after anywhere between 5-15 minutes. Since I've had good experience with FF in the past I thought it must be either the drivers or a hardware problem. So in-between crashes I updated all the drivers. Still had the same problem. Took the computer to a friend who knows more about computers than I do, made sure all the drivers were updated, same problem. We thought that it might be a hardware problem (bad video card, chipset, overheating issues, etc.), but after my friend played around with my computer for a day he found that when he didn't start FF at all it worked fine, even after watching a movie, or going through a playlist on Youtube.
At the time of this posting I'm going to try to uninstall FF 4.0 and download and install FF 3.6.16 which is currently on my laptop and works like a dream. Hopefully that will do the trick, because I love using FF and would hate to have to switch to another browser. Hopefully Mozilla will work out the kinks with FF 4 so I can continue to use it.
I apologize for the lengthy post. Any feedback would be appreciated, but is not necessary. I will try and post back after I try FF 3.16.6. -
I updated Efi firmware, but force quit twitter to install. Now system won't come on, it just shows grey screen with the spinning wheel loading. I am running lion 10.7.3.
Thank youThe following support article is somewhat outdated. Where it refers to booting from an installation disc, you should boot from your recovery partition (if running 10.7 or later) by holding down the key combination command-R at the chime.
Mac OS X: Gray screen appears during startup -
Whenever I try to upload photos into iPhoto, they load but when importing it just stops a picture or two into it and then just sits there. I can't stop the import so I have to shut off my camera when it is importing and start again. Does anyone know how to fix this?
As a test launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library. Tru importing from your camera to it and to see if the same problem persists. Does it?
