Help - I've got no public folder!

Hi all,
As the title says, I'm missing the public folder directory from my new MacBook Pro.
I've upgraded from an iBook and frequently made use of the public folder function and can't understand why it isn't there on my new machine - any idea's?

If you mean that there isn't a folder named Public in your account's home folder, go into the Finder and click on the item in the sidebar with the house icon. Next, choose New Folder from the File menu and give the new folder the name Public.

Please help setting permissions on a Public folder

I've just migrated from a G4 running 10.4.x to a Mac Pro running 10.5.1, and now when I create files/folders on a Public folder located on a Xserver, I can't set permissions to allow everyone to Read & Write.
Here's what's happening. Let's say I create a new folder in the Public folder and select Get Info to change the permission to allow everyone to Read & Write. The folder starts with the permissions as g42 (my account) "Read & Write", admin "Read only", everyone "Read only". If I click to change the Privileges of "everyone" to Read & Write, all of a sudden g42's Privileges change to "No Access", admin disappears and everyone (which I had selected as Read & Write) changes to "No Access". And the folder icon now has a minus symbol on the lower right corner.
With that said, lets say I try and correct this by clicking the Privileges of g42 to "Read & Write". Nothing happens. I then try and correct the Privileges of everyone to "Read & Write". After doing this the list of permissions is osxserver "No Access", (unknown) "Read & Write", everyone "Read & Write". And the folder still has a minus symbol on the lower right corner.
I'm sorry if this is confusing but it's just as confusing to me and I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.
I Can set all the correct permissions if I do it via the Xserver. But I don't want to have to do this everytime I create a file/folder. And no one else connected to the network, running 10.4.x, has this problem which makes me think its a Leopard problem.
Any suggestions? Need me to clarify anything?

I just ran thru this with my nephew at college who wanted to share .mp3 files with his roomies, and yes, I'm afraid it's all about permissions.
In a way, Apple has made this a bit harder than it needs to be.
1. You could create a new user for your computer, say User1, and let all your co-workers log in as that user, and they would have access to the all the docs in User1's home folder, including the ability to create, edit, move, and delete files. The problem here is that you'll be logged in as "you", and won't have the same priviledges, and no amount of manual changing of permissions will make this easier.
2. If you have a spare HD(they are pretty cheap), you can add that to your computer, and set the the permissions to "Ignore". Your co-workers can log in to your computer as Guest, and have access to all the docs on that drive, and you will as well, since docs on that drive respond to permissions issues.
3. The last option would be if you have an older, spare Mac to set up as a file server. Create a user for it, and you and your co-workers can log in as that user (all at the same time) and see, edit, and delete docs on the computer.
BUT, as far as I know, I have tried numerous times to do what you want to do, and can't get it to work. Unless you don't have any "secrets" on your computer, you could give your co-workers your username and password, they log into your computer and have access to all the docs in your home folder.... but ALL the docs... anything and everything in your home folder will be available for perused by anyone logged in with your username. LIkewise, establishing a 2nd user on your computer only goes most of the way to a solution, since you can't (easily) be logged in as both users and create, open, edit, save and delete docs.
I suppose there may be a script out there that will automatically change permissions on the fly, but I'm unaware of any.

For creating folder stucture u hv to use easy DMS if u r using Easy DMS.
if U working on R3;
thn goto DMS
Use tcode cv03n, open the document for which you want create folder.
goto document browser tab for perticular document, here u can create publeic as well as private folder and add documents as per your reqt.
In this u can also give authorisation of folder as per reqt.

FYI: I have been using boot camp with windows 7 and started getting a kernal_data_Page_error and it would reboot windows, i was trying to do a chkdsk on the next reboot, but thats when i started getting this issue. I have put in a new hard drive and went from 2 gigs to 4. I can not get the computer to do anything, even the monitor does not show anything now????

Prep your new drive:
Drive Preparation
1. Boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID (for Intel Macs) or APM (for PPC Macs,) then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Security button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
After formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer. Install OS X.

HELP! Public folder cannot be shared!

Hello!
I just noticed that my "DropBox" folder disappeared (maybe after upgrading to Leopard??) and that my Public folder is no more viewable from the network.
I tried to create a new account and it works ok.
So, how can I re-create the DropBox and give visibility to my Public Folder?

Why the requirement to set the network location to "public" vs. "private" ? All 8 PCs on our LAN are XP except 2 VISTAs: One Vista Home Basic at 32-bit and the other my laptop running Vista Business 64-bit. The VISTA "help" says: "If there’s only one computer on your network and you know you won’t need to share files or printers, the safest choice is “Public place."
But I have 8 PCs on my private LAN and I DO need to share files & printers... so I chose Private.
The other Vista Home Basic 32-bit PC on our LAN, which is set to private also, has no such "re-sharing" problem. Shared files remain shared. Only my Vista 64-bit Business laptop can't "keep" the NM shared folders shared after a reboot, and I have to keep re-sharing them over and over -- then they CAN be "seen" and shared by all the other PCs on the LAN... for awhile... I think it's until I reboot again. This is maddening!

Thank you for your prompt response - I did as you said and did a drag and drop into the iTunes window - it imported and got my album art from the net. When I started Itunes with the shift key down I was prompted to choose a library but since I copied over the media folder and not the library folder I was unable to select that so I guess I will have to create a new library and add in all the music, videos, etc. unless I wait for my laptop and export the library or at least that seems to be the case? In short, all my data (iTunes media folder) is on my external drive and can be added to the blank iTunes screen but I can not choose a library folder. Is there anyway around completely making all those playlists again? I am not sure my laptop will survive the shop with data intact and really hate to start over on those.
In an unrelated question - I collect old TV shows from the 1950's. Can I make playlists within the home video folder somehow? In other words like one for Quiz shows, one for comedies, one for police and detective shows, etc. while I am remaking all my playlists for my music if I end up having to go that route?
Once again thank you for helping me out. I am not too Itunes savvy and really appreciate you taking the time to answer.

Public Folder Migration issues

I am at the last stages of migrating from exchange 2007 SP3 to 2010 SP3. Both versions have a CAS, HT, and MBX server. I've moved all the databases across and also replicated the public folder contents using:
AddReplicaToPFRecursive.ps1 -Server 2007MBX -TopPublicFolder "\"
-ServerToAdd 2010MBX
After resolving all the public folder item errors that popped up, I decided to move the public folders
across. I ran the \moveallreplicas.ps1 script.
On the Exchange 2007 MBX server, I got some EXCDO errors :
Event ID 8237: Calendaring agent failed with error 0x80040219 while attempting to open the
status message. If the user is a delegate, the access rights to the mailbox might not be set up correctly. Otherwise, the calendar for this mailbox could be corrupted. This could be fixed by moving the mailbox to another Exchange server, or exporting
the calendar to a Personal Folder File (.PST), and re-importing this into a new calendar.
Followed by
Event ID 8207: Calendaring agent failed with
error code 0x80040219 while deleting appointment.
and then event ID 8200: Calendaring agent failed in message delete notification with error 0x80040219 on : /Example folder/Staff/Room1/tom jones-280257926.EML.
There were a few instances of these but the script ran succesfully. After the script ran, I checked the replication settings on the public folders and system public folders and on both servers every folder was set to replicate to only the new Exchange 2010
MBX.
On the Exchange 2007 MBX, if I run : getpublicfolderstatistics -server ex2007mbx I get :

If I run getpublicfolderstatistics -server ex2010mbx I get :

I have checked the permissions on the exchangev1 folder which is in system public folders>schema+root>Microsoft.
I have dismounted the public folder database on the EX2007MBX and I can access public folders ok. There are no errors and in the folders I have tried, I can add/ delete items.
Would anyone please be able to advise on the following:
1) What do I do about the EXCDO errors? They have not recurred since I ran the script and did not occur before I ran the script. What are the implications of the errors?
2)Running getpublicfolderstatistics -server ex2010mbx on the Exchange 2007 MBX gives me:
The operation cannot be executed because there is no available public folder da
tabase on the server 'EX2010'.
However, the public folders do seem to appear on the EX2010MBX. Is this because EX2007 cannot see the 2010 database?
3)How do I move the last folder on EX2007MBX: Exchangev1?

From your description, I would like to clarify the following thing:
Lower version (Exchange 2007) cannot get the database information of higher version (Exchange 2010), it is the expected behavior. Your understanding will be appreciated.

Public Folder Replication Issues 2k7 to 2k10

Ater migrating all mailboxes from our old Exchange 2k7 server to 2k10, not i have to get rid of the public folder.
I asked a similar question some months ago, but now i have another new problem.
First off, i have add the 2k10 server to the replicas with the commands:
\AddReplicaToPFRecursive.ps1 -server 2k7server -TopPublicFolder "\" -Servertoadd 2k10server
.\AddReplicatoPFRecursive.ps1 -TopPublicFolder "\Non_IPM_Subtree" -Servertoadd 2k10server
Update-PublicFolderHierarchy -Server 2k10server
Get-PublicFolderStatistics -resultsize unlimited | update-publicfolder -Server 2k10server
After done this some months ago, i have the Hierarchy replicated on the 2k10server and i can see all the folder and subfolders, but with no content. After waiting some days, i got some content replicated,
2GB more or less, and the public folder on the 2k7 server is around 40GB
I have been researching waht could happen, checking permissions, connectors... but cant see were the problem is.
When i laung the public folder update cmdlet on the powershell, i can see on the mail queue, that both server are sending each other emails, from one public folder to the other one. But the thing, is that this emails subject are:
- Backfill Request
- Status
But i dont get any "content" or "folder content" email, so, the content of the public folders are not replicating.
Im lost at the moment i have no more ideas, and i thing i have searched whole google trying everything... im also thinking on exporting the content to a pst and move it... :S:S
Could some one have any tip or workaround form i can continue searching?

Exchange 2003 Public folder move to exchange2010

we have been running exchange 2010 and exchange 2003 for some time and now its time to remove exchange 2003 while its been running it hasn't been doing anything.
Exchange 2003 is replicating already to exchange 2010 a while ago I did do a move replication (over a 2 months ago got side tracked)
now under public folder instance on exchnge2003
I just see one folder "Schedule + free Busy information -First Administrative Group"
and when you look at replication status on exchange 2003 I see this
PUBLIC FOLDER HIERARCHY                  12/08/2014 2 In Sync
Schedule+ Free Busy Information- first                      2 both Modified
System Configuration                             10/08/2012 2 local modified
I need to get the information over to exchange 2010.
Do I go with a move MoveAllReplicas.ps1 will this overwrite whats on 2010 ?
What is the safest way for me to get this information over to exchange 2010 any suggestions?

Problems with permissions on Public folder?

I can see my wife's Public folder and drop box but she can't see mine, although she can log in as a guest. We're both using Leopard. I think it's some kind of permissions problem because in the info for my Public folder there are three users:
me: read & write
unknown: read only (that's the weird one)
everyone: read only
My wife has:
her: read & write
staff: read only
everyone: read only
When I checked the permissions for my Public folder by running ls -ld Public in Terminal I got the following: drwxr-xr-x@ 5 xbodhipaksa xbodhipaksa 170 Jun 13 08:45 Public
I'm not sure what that @ symbol is doing there.
I ran chmod -vv 755 Public in Terminal but that didn't change anything.
Since I know nothing about permissions I've been following the instructions in this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7243511&#7243511

The Public folder isn't visible when she logs in as a guest. I just created an account for her a few minutes ago and gave her read only access to the public folder, but when I logged in remotely using her computer and that new account the public folder still didn't show up.
File sharing is and has been enabled in the system preferences, and her new account is showing up there.

I have a WinRT C# app that uses the Live SDK v5.6. In my app a user can upload files and create folders within their OneDrive account and generate share links. Is there anyway for a user to be able to access files located in another user's specified
public folder on OneDrive?
Here's what I've got so far: A user creates a folder and sets it to public. The app creates a 'contact card' file that the user can send to another user. In this file the sender's ID is stored, along with the web link to their public folder and
that folder's OneDrive ID. The recipient opens the 'contact card' file in my app and all the values come through successfully. Now I just need to know how (or if) I can use those values to direct my app to download a list of files in the sender's
public OneDrive folder. When I try to use the folder ID like so:

The operation never completes. I assume this is because the folderID is tied to the sender's user account. So what are my options here? Is there another value that would work, like upload_location? Could I use the REST API and the public

Hi Ray,
Free/Busy information is stored in system public folder. If you want to decommission the Exchange 2007 Server, you need to add the replicas to Exchange 2013 Server.
What's more, if the users use Outlook 2003, they will rely on the Free/Busy folders. If the users are using Outlook 2007 or newer, then Outlook utilizes something called the Availability Service and no longer relies on the Free/Busy folder.

It never tries to restart. Can anyone please help? The server checks for health all come back ok. I will be more than glad to include further information.

Basic on the error message, I notice that public folder migrate slow and display that “Relinquishing job because of large delays due to unfavorable server health or budget limitations” .
If I misunderstand your concern, please do not hesitate to let me know.
Since it is just slow and not failing, please do not stop the batch, it might connect to another server for sync.

Safari Won't open password protected Graphite Filesharing Public folder

Dear people,
Using Homepage I made my Public folder available to a small group of people, whom I gave my password. I chose Graphite Filesharing. Starting about half a year ago, I got mor and more complaints from people not being able to Login. The password is not refused, but the dialog keeps coming back. This only happens in Safari 3 and Safari 4. Firefox works fine.
If you need more info, then please leave a URL where I can post a formal bug report with all the details.

Thanks. Unfortunately that didn't work for me. I tried deleting the bookmark and visiting the site by typing in the address. The same problem still persists. I just sit there staring at the loading symbol spin and spin - hypnotized with anticipation.
Any other ideas out there?

Help - I've got no public folder!
