Help I've just lost 8 years worth of iCal data

I've just lost 8 years worth of iCal data. Does Apple still have the  data? My HD died. My Mac mini will not support the new "Cloud" portal. Does anyone have any ideas how I can retrieve my data from Apple? Thanks

When you say "I can see all of my calendars", I'm assuming you mean in iCal, yes?  If so, my two suggestions would be:
1) Go into Time Machine and go back to a date when you had all your calendar info, and restore the calendar from there.
Or ...
2) If you were using MobileMe, access your MobileMe account through your web browser, open the Calendar in there and see if there's any data in that calendar.  If there is, you should be able to sync through Mobile Me, choosing let MobileMe overwrite the hard drive.
But I'd definitely try Time Machine first.
Good luck.

    - If photos were in your iPod Camera Roll, just restoe from backup. If they were synced to the iPOd you have to get them from where you got them the first place
    - For itunes pruchsed music see:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
    - For other music you will hae to get it from where you got it the first time.

  • Help! i just lost all my voicemail messages! how can i retrieve them?!

Help! i just lost all my voicemail messages! how can i retrieve them???

I also experienced loss of important archived voicemails on my Iphone on two occasions within the last 12 mos:
    1. after upgrading my Iphone 4S to an Iphone 5 using Itunes backup and then erasing my Iphone 4s. I lost all my voicemails older than 90 days (ATT is my carrier). I was able to recover the old voicemails by restoring my Iphone 4s from my Itunes backup and holding onto that device for reference.
    2. again, six mos later after restoring a new Iphone 5 using a recent ITunes backup after water damage to my first Iphone 5. Nobody in my local Apple store or on Apple phone support, including a "senior techniciaan" had any useful knowledge to assist me with this frustrating issue. Ultimately, I spent many hours researching this myself. Apparently, there is a bug in the Iphone 5 OS when restoring from ITunes. I don't know if this problem also occurs after restoring from an ICloud backup. However, I found that Iphone voicemails are available for a limited period 30-90 days through your phone carrier ie. ATT, Verizon, etc but more importantly, ALL voicemails are archived on an ITUNES backup regardless of age assuming you didn't delete them off your IPhone before last backing up your device. So, if you lost or damaged your IPhone but have an ITunes backup, all you need is an ITunes extractor, unfortunately not available through APPLE. Apple reps are not authorized to discuss non-apple issued software even if they're aware. There are several ITunes extractors available for music, photos, SMS files etc but most don't also have the capability of opening the embedded voicemails. Happily, using this software, I successfully extracted from my ITunes backup file ALL my voicemails old and current, using www.backuptrans.com/itunes-backup-extractor.html (Mac and Windows versions available). A life-saver!

  • Help - I've just lost it!!

    I've just lost LabVIEW help.
Very confusing. I've been using it all day, I tried to launch help from one of the hyperlinks to a more detailed description in one of the quick help windows (Ctrl+H) and it's gone!
I've tried closing LV and restarting it, I've just rebooted my PC and still all I get is the LabVIEW help box on the toolbar, but no application/window behind it that activates when clicked.
When Task manager switches to LabVIEW help task, all other windows lose focus, but no help appears.
    OS = Win XP
LabVIEW = 8.6.1 (the only version on this Laptop)
    Any Ideas?

Well there is still a step left if you also want to look at the help not maximized. While the help window is maximized, go back to the task bar entry and do the same to restore (=unmaximize). Now go back and select "move".  Move the window with the arrow keys until it appears and you can grab it with the mouse.

I screwed up bad. I know what my mistake was. Before I learned I could export imovie to quicktime. Here is what I did:
I open an imovie file. It opens three files from imovie, one of which is an .mov file. I drag and drop it to another location and deleted the rest of the imovie files. Once I deleted them(and emptied the trash) i had 35 more gigs of harddrive, yea! Unfortunately I had no .mov

  • Help! I just lost 35 gigs of edited video

ok heres the situation. Im nearing the end of editing a short film.
I cannot open the imovie file to get to my project.
It started when I tried to save my work last night. (I click save project every 30 minutes or so of editing, so I had saved it probably 50 or times already on this project). After trying to save this time, I got the small window saying "saving thumbnails". It usually takes maybe 5-10 seconds to complete the save.
This time however, the "saving thumbnails" window spun and spun for over 15 MINUTES.
After deciding that my computer was locked up, and that I might have to lose my unsaved work, (maybe 30 minutes, no big deal) I shut down imovie.
Now, when I try to open this file I get:
The file “_” couldn’t be opened and is being skipped. Click “Ignore All” to skip any remaining missing file messages.
When I click the "Ignore All" button I get the window saying: "The application iMovie HD quit unexpectedly" Mac OS X and other applications are not affected.
Click Reopen to open the application again.
    Nothing is working.
I still have all of the original video footage, but "expletive expletive" I've spent over 40-45 hours editing this project.
I've restarted the computer, unplugged it for over an hour before turning everything back on.
This imovie file is on a Lacie 120 gig external drive. Ive been using this drive for a year or more with no problems. There are a few other imovie files on this external drive that have not been affected and are opening just fine.
Please, please, please, if anyone has any suggestions.
thanks for taking the time to read this,
    dan

  • Help! May have lost years of files.

My Zire 71 died completely.  When recharged I had to reset it like new.  My address book synched OK.  Docs to go would never synch on my new Mac.  So now Zire doesnt show docs to go on the Zire or the Palmone 128 card where it was stored?  Was the card wiped out?  Years of docs to go files were on the card.  Should i reinstall docs to go on zire 71 using windows computer or will that definately format card and wipe it clean?  Help!

Hi Karen - all may not be lost. Within your iMovie 'package' (the container in which all of the project is stored), there will be more than one saved version of your movie. You would need to look for that:
    1. Find the imovie package (has a star on it). Could be in Users>Movies.
    2. Control-Click on this. It will open.
    3. Click on 'Show Package Contents' - this will display a number of folders and files.
    4. One of the files will be: (your movie's name).~iMovieProj.
    5. That one will be a previously-saved version of your movie. Double Click on it.

  • I need help...just lost about 20gigs of HD space

Hi folks...I installed three programs....Handbrake, Mactheripper and ffxmpegx, and i copied a movie to my desktop (temporarily) all in all...about 1 gig. A few hours ago...I realized though that I'm missing about 28 gigs of HD space.
    My question is the following.
is there a program or feature on the mac, that will allow me to see which programs are taking up the most amount of space? For example, my pc, has the 'add/remove programs' section, which also states program sizes.
If anyone can help, i'd appreciate it. Thanks

    Hi George
Your post didn't mention, do you use FileVault?
I've seen a number of these 'disappearing space' issues caused by a feature of FileVault: it doesn't recover disk space when you delete anything unless it's plugged in to an AC outlet.
Note I said 'feature' not 'bug'. The sparse file (which is what FileVault stores the encrypted profile in) can only be shrunk to recover space while you are logging off or restarting. It could be catastrophic to interrupt this process, so it won't offer to do it while the machine is not plugged in.
If you do use it, try plugging in the laptop then either restarting or just logging out. When it asks if you want to recover space, agree & let it run.
    Peace

  • Someone help please!  I lost $90 worth of itune cards

I bought an ipod for my daughter and tried to get an apple ID.  I entered my info. and it asked for a credit card so I entered all the itune cards she got for Christmas ($90).  Hit the submit button and then realized I didn't type the email address correctly.  Since I can't get the verification code from the email, I tried it again using the CORRECT email and verified my account, but it won't let me use the gift cards.  I tried going to yahoo and opening an account in the name I sent (the mispelled on) but yahoo said I couldn't use that email name.  I thought maybe it was because it was already in use, so I email the adress what I did wrong and asked her to verify my account for me and than I would erase her email off my account, but the message came back to me (not an address) So now what do I do?  I called Apple support and the guys there had no idea!  Hoping someone out there does!!!  PLEASE HELP!!!

If it were me I would contact: Apple Store Customer Service at 1-800-676-2775

  • How can I print just the year view in iCal?

Just trying to print the year view.

If you choose the "list" option in View on the print dialog box and uncheck everything at the bottom except "To do items" you may be able to get what you're looking for.  It appears that the list includes all todos including those without due dates, so you might have to do something to assign due dates to all your todos and in iCal preferences restrict the visibility of todos outside of a certain date range.  Unfortunately, you can't save any of this work into a standard report (at least not that I know of) - the print dialog in iCal starts from scratch every time you invoke it.  Hope that helps at least some.

  • Help--did I just give up my grandfathered unlimited data plan?

    Hello all,
I just bought an iphone 4s--upgraded from a Droid smartphone. On my old bill my data plan is "email & web unlimited" for $29.99. Did I made a mistake when ordering the new phone--I clicked on the 2G plan and that is what is shown in my order. Did I just give up my grandfathered plan? I really don't understand all this stuff. Could someone help me understand if that "email & web unlimited" was the grandfathered unlimited data plan I keep seeing discussed on this forum? Does that allow me to upload pictures, stream radio/movies, etc.? Or do I really need one of the tiered plans like the 2G? I will try to revise my order through customer service if need be. Thank you so much.

No, this is not the grandfathered unlimited plan. As soon as you activate your phone, you should call Verizon and have your unlimited plan reinstated. The 2GB plan shouldn't take effect until you activate your new phone, but you could just check to make sure. Once the 2GB plan takes effect, you should have 14 days to have the unlimited plan reinstated, or you will lose it for good.

  • HELP! I've lost all my geo tagging data I manually put on every file. Don't know why?

Dont know why but all of the gps co-ordinates have disappeared from the metadata of the files. I spent a lot of time placing the photos on the map. Some reason it has all disappeared. Would it have happened when I pressed "sync metadata" or something like that? Using LR4.

It's possible that Sync Metadata caused the problem. With a few exceptions (e.g. keywords) Lr uses a 'Replace' model rather than the more sensible 'Append' model when syncing or reading metadata. This means that if the source file is missing some metadata in specific fields then the same fields in the destination will be cleared.
While it's not going to fix your problem I suggest that in future you make sure the metadata stored in external xmp sidecar, DNG, JPG, TIFF, PSD is kept up to date. This is fairly easy to do. (i.e. select the files then use Cmd/Ctrl+S to save catalog metadata back into files. The alternative is to activate auto save xmp in Catalog Settings, but doing so can result in performance degradation.

  • PLEASE HELP ME! Mozilla Sync just lost all of my bookmarks after a format

Please help me oh god =(
After so long of using Weave then switching to Sync.. I think I finally lost my bookmarks (and everything else Sync saves) and I have --absolutely no clue how--
I had to format after a very mean trojan, and a few minutes ago i just installed firefox and sync -- I selected "Merge my bookmarks" and nothing happened, so frantically I tried all kinds of things -- after clicking on the "replace" option (and not actually doing it) it states I had 64 bookmarks although 0 passwords and 0 of something else, I was extremely happy to see that although I searched EVERYWHERE in my computer and they were no where to be found.. I restarted Firefox thinking they would suddenly pop up and they did not..
Now after restarting I did the "replace" button again and it was down to 14 bookmarks (which I believe is the amount you start with)
Is there ANYTHING I can do? Can the people at Mozilla Sync find my bookmarks? There was so much there =( All I did was merge and just... nothing happened.. So I panicked, was I supposed to restart he browser immediately after merging my bookmarks and things? Oh god =( Instead of saving all of my info on a disc when formating, I trusted Sync to save all of my information in bookmarks and things.. Now it is all lost, there are even some email addresses that I had passwords saved and now I have no way to recover them.
Is there ANYTHING I can do?????? Anything at all =/ This was NOT supposed to happen, all I did was Merge! Was I not supposed to Merge? I've used Merge a hundred times in the past! Please keep in mind that I formatted so there is no hope of using a backup.
    == This happened ==
    Just once or twice
    == after a format

Ok, this has happened to me twice now. I've been using weave since pre-1.0.
The first time I needed to wipe a cluttered firefox profile, then re-merged my sync and while it restored all of my bookmarks, it only caught half my passwords.
The second time, today, I needed to reinstall windows. I connected to firefox sync and selected merge, but the only bookmarks merged in were those I added recently, likely since the 1.4 update.
This is very troubling to me as there was never any warning that all of my data would not be secure. It was my fault for depending on it but now several years worth of bookmarks are just gone.
Am I using it wrong? When a new version comes out do I need to somehow re-sync everything? One would think that is taken care of automatically.
Please let us know if there is a way to recover our lost data.
And for the sake of other users please track this down and consider warning people they could lose their data.
    Thank you.

  • Lost a few years worth of Mail

Hi all. If anyone can give me any advice I would be most grateful. Just 2 days ago I found that I lost some 3 years worth of mail from my inbox. I have been searching the mail posts and have a few ideas of what to do but no solid answers on how to retrieve my lost messages. Help please. Thanks.

my POP email account is totally GONE. I logged on a few
days ago and received a welcome message "You have no
email accounts configured to use Mail."
What’s the capacity and space available on your startup disk? Take a look at the comments about disk space in the following article, in case they apply to you:
Problems from insufficient RAM and free hard disk space
Even if there is enough space available on the startup disk, for some reason that remains a mystery to me, Mail sometimes “thinks” it must discard the current ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist preferences file and create a new one. As a result, all your non-Mac account settings (but not the messages themselves), which are stored in that file, are lost.
Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what’s it all about?
After having fixed all filesystem issues, if any, and making sure that there’s enough space available on the startup disk (a few GB, plus the space needed to make a backup copy of the Mail folder), quit Mail if it’s running, and make a backup copy of the ~/Library/Mail folder, e.g. by dragging it to the Desktop while holding the Option (Alt) key down, just in case something else goes wrong while trying to solve the problem. This is where all your mail is stored.
    You have three options now:
    (1) Restore com.apple.mail.plist from a backup if you have one. Mail shouldn’t be running while you do this.
    (2) Set up your non-Mac accounts in Mail again. If given the option to import existing mailboxes or something like that, don’t. Just enter the account information and Mail will automagically rediscover the data in ~/Library/Mail/ when done. You’ll also have to re-configure most of your settings in Mail > Preferences. For spam-related security reasons, the first thing you should do is go to Preferences > Viewing and disable Display remote images in HTML messages if it’s enabled.
    (3) Mail may have renamed the old preferences file to com.apple.mail.plist.saved. If that’s the case, you may try moving the new com.apple.mail.plist out of ~/Library/Preferences/ (e.g. to the Desktop) and rename the old com.apple.mail.plist.saved back to com.apple.mail.plist. Again, be sure Mail isn’t running while doing this. Since Mail decided to discard it, I would expect this file to be corrupt (I don’t understand why would Mail discard it and create a new one otherwise), but apparently that often is not the case and the settings can indeed be restored by just renaming the file.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder, i.e. ~/Library is the Library folder within the user’s home folder.
