Help! I've lost the ability to import!

You folks on this forum do a heck of a job, so maybe you can help a poor soul like me...
There I was, minding my own business, using iPhoto 2, no worries, when all of a sudden, I couldn't import photos from either one of my cameras anymore.
Does it have anything to do with my upgrading to OS X 10.4.4?
Both cameras exported to iPhotos perfectly before the upgrade. A coincidence?
Now I get a blank in the little preview screen, but the blue line inches along to the right, inches along no problem. Only when it's done, nothing shows up in the iPhoto library.
Any help appreciated.

Hi, Wrinkle. Given that the problem has accompanied your camera from Mac to Mac, it seems quite possible, even likely, that there's something wrong with the way the camera, its memory card, or your images are configured — at least as far as iPhoto is concerned.
First the pictures. Are you shooting in RAW format by any chance? Since Software Update or some other meddlesome intruder has inexplicably replaced my iPhoto 4 Help files with the ones for iPhoto 5 Help, I happen to know that iPhoto 5 can handle RAW files. What I don't know is whether iPhoto 4 can. Make sure your camera is set to save your pictures in JPEG or TIFF format, then test iPhoto's Import function again.
Next, the card. Try reformatting it — in the camera, not on the Mac. Take a handful of throwaway photos, then test again.
Now for the camera. Are you sure it's set in the proper mode to transfer photos to a computer, and not in one of its picture-taking modes? Reread the instructions for transferring images to make sure there isn't some step you're forgetting, particularly if it's been a while since you tried this. Forgive me if this is elementary. I don't take you for a moron — anyone can forget things.
Lastly, your USB cable. Is it in good shape, to all outward appearances? If it's damaged even slightly, that might be your whole problem right there.

RAW files from Fujifilm X10, why have I lost the ability to import after last RAW file update?

When I first installed iPhoto '11, it would not accept imports of RAW files from Fujifilm X10, then when doing an RAW file compatibility update in around April 2013, I could then import X10's RAW files, but when I did the latest RAW file combatibility update about a week ago, I now seem to have lost this ability, WHY? How can I restore this feature?

For what I understand:
The problem is that the update applies to the IOS not the software itself (iPhoto or Aperture) so rolling back is almost impossible.

Ovi Suite 3.1.0.91 lost the ability of adding *.m4...

yeah, we noticed that.
But suffice it to say that we are not talking about file formats, but file extension.
.m4a files are AAC files which are supported by Ovi-suite as you conveniently point out.
But that IS NOT THE POINT.
The now officially worst smartphone desktop software ever has lost the ability to import AAC files with an .m4a extension. By the way .m4a is the standard file extension for songs bough in the iTunes store.
Up to at least version 3.0 Ovi suite was able to add .m4a files ( again, Standard iTunes extiension) with no problem.
But all of a sudden that extension has been removed.
You now have to start Ovi Player to add those files to the library, after that tjhey will play fine in the Ovi Suite as do .m4a files that were added to the library pre-3.1, since they are indeed standard AAC files.
Removing support for one of the more widespread audio file extensions is just one more example of the mind-boggling incompetence of the Ovi-suite developers.
The Suite keeps getting worse and worse instead of less bad. Never has it been more tedious to keep a PDA or smartphone up to date than with the pathetic Ovi-suite. Now I could maybe even live with that if the handsets weren't equally or even more useless (N97).

To solve a different problem, the folks at the store replaced my iPhone 4S.
I came home and loaded my backup onto the new phone. Everything EXCEPT iMessage seems to be working great.
I would really appreciate any feedback...

HT204291 I updated my apple tv to the latest firmware. I seem to have lost the ability to mirror my ipad 3rd gen. Can anybody help

I bought an apple tv for its ability to mirror any of the content on my new ipad 3rd gen. Now after updating my apple tv i seem to have lost the ability to mirror my tablet onto the screen. Can somebody help with this. I have tried to do everything. I made sure both my apple tv and my ipad are connected to the same network. I also made shure my bluetooth was off. I can still airplay with my brothers iphone 4s. ( ios5.1) but i cannot do the same with my tablet.

You must be a newbie, because otherwise you would have fixed it. I don't have that mirroring problem and it must be because you are not looking around and inform yourself thoroughly. It took me also 2 days of grief before I found out how to do it. Not even to mention that the Apple Engineer that I called did not have a solution either and just suggested that I should send my Apple TV back or go to a Apple Store nearby.
I was pretty annoyed about that such a little black box was giving me grief. I have been working in the IT industry for over 30 years and I know quite a bit inside out about many hardware's. But my opinion is that sending out Version 6.0 Aka 5.1 as you rightfully say is not on with me.
This is the same behaviour that Apple now does as Microsoft forever is doing. Not finishing the products and putting it on the market or release it before it is finished and has bugs in it.
Personally this irks me and annoys me. Because I am in that field for many years and have seen what grief it causes. I have noticed that an Administrator has removed another post that I made about other matters concerning iPads and especially with iPad 3 and 4 now and that there are also other people who make inflamatory remarks to people ( Julian Wright for e.g.) about how they have to spend their money for the latest stuff of Apple and come over very aggressive, selfish, if not evil.
For your information, I used to work for Apple, I know Apple inside and how they work and what they used to do ? They were really nice for their employees and customers. But I think that has changed now for whatever reason they have. Very disappointing. It's up to Apple not to listen, I have no control of that, but it will cost them at some point.
Besides that point, I feel that some people are been taken for a ride and when I am expressing that this is not OK I should be rewarded for that instead of being rejected.

Hit these keys Command Shift B at the same time
It is a toggle for View. Show/Hide Bounding Box
The most common accident in Illustrator everyone does this.
Also be aware of command H for hide edges another accident often happens.

I've suddenly lost the ability to run a slideshow

For some reason, I lost the ability to run a slide show when in the event view. It worked moments ago. I created a show, selected music saved and now it wont work for that event or any other.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. First try rebooting. If that doesn't help delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

When I use FF 4 I have problem with my Intranet user interface, I lost the ability to acces my intranet database? So for now I go back to previous version. I hope that kind of problem can be fix soon.

I usually use FF 3.6 version to download data from my company intranet. With old FF version I can access the intranet easily. But when I upgrade to the FF 4, I lost the ability to customize the variable data I want to collect. It kind of stuck. Usually when I right click I have option what to do. with the new version my option is none. nothing change. It's frustrating. So now, I go back to previous version. You said previous version is vulnerable to phishing or virus or something but still it user friendly for me to access my company data. Please fix that bug and I'll upgrade to the newest version.

I want to add my progress about this problem. I find this problem in IE 9, but it has compatibility view, though not too perfect but quite helpful. Whereas FF 4, from article in support, said it doesn't have one. So, I beg you FF team to accommodate us who still deal with old web design so we still can use this FF 4. Please..please..please. I still believe Firefox is the best browser and I hope FF team also responsive about current problem. I think I don't have any option, but to downgrade FF to 3.6 until someone tell me how to deal with this kind of problem. Thanks.

Itunes seems to have lost the ability to play purchased video

Before posting here, I've searched all over the place for a solution to this problem, I found many people who have very similar issues, some solved them, but their solutions haven't worked for me, others with problems closer to how'd I'd describe mine have yet to find a solution
My problem is, when I try to watch purchased tv shows, the video playback is horribly choppy. Most of the time it's like watching a screenshot with audio. (audio plays fine). I've tried all the suggestions of disabling direct3d etc to no avail. I have a brand new pretty beefy system that should have no problems running the video at all. The oddest thing though, is that early today the video worked fine, which confirms that it's not hardware insufficiency. After downloading 2 shows this evening, I watched them with perfectly smooth playback. After getting a few more tv shows, itunes suddenly lost the ability to playback smoothly, even after closing, opening itunes again, rebooting my computer, none of it helped. The only thing left to try which I will try if nobody has any idea what the problem might be, is to completly uninstall itunes and try reinstalling it again, since earlier the playback was fine.
Has anyone else encountered anything at all like this? Nothing about my system has changed since earlier this evening, I already had the most recent version of itunes when everything was working fine. No display drivers or any of that has changed. It was only a matter of a few minutes between smooth playback and where my itunes perminatly lost the ability to playback video properly.
I appoligize for the long winded message but I wanted to cover all the bases so people don't end up suggesting stuff I've already tried. The only clue that might be related is during download of one of the shows Windows Vista popped up the message that itunes had stop working, and I could try and find a solution or close the application. I just closed itunes and opened it again. Everything seemed fine but it may be (not positive though) that it was immediatly after that that the video nolonger played properly.

After I installed 10.6.8, my HP Officejet lost the ability to print 2-sided. I installed the latest HP drivers for Snow Leopard, but the 2-sided option is turned off and greyed out.

Also the scan function won't let me scan at any density greater than 150 dpi. I have talked to Applecare and to HP tech support and been told "too bad." Any help would be appreciated.

I'm going to take a wild guess and say that you have a SATA controlled hard drive. Apparently, there's some kind of bug with SATA disks and Vista and Quicktime/itunes video...and possibly Nvidia is involved as well.
The workaround is sticking the video on a flash drive in order to play it (because that avoids the SATA controller and thus bypasses the issue). It's a crappy workaround, IMO...and I'm not spending another cent on iTunes videos until the issue is actually fixed.

Since software was updated yesterday, i've lost the ability to turn off Full Screen, and it's driving me mad
I've used help and it told me to go to Display options, but all i have on there is Page Overview, View Images and Page Info.

yeah right, in previous firmware there was an option to go full screen manually, but now when page loading completes, it goes automatically full screen, and according to my experience it can't be turned off, we have no option but to click the Arrow button in corner to get back to normal screen.

10.6.2 added and lost the ability to access external 500G HD

I have 4 Mac computers and used with delight my Iomega 500G HD which I purchased at the apple store for 3 or 4 years ago. It was connected to my Mac’s. by my airport and could be accessed by my MacBookPro, MacMini and my MacBook air. I upgraded to 10.6 Leopard Snow when it came out and my Apple computers accessed the 500G HD well. Recently I lost the ability to access my 500G HD.
I saw it on the computer desktop and when activated it said it was an allies and would not open. I did all the usual things trying to get help from Apple Techs and even took it and a computer to the Apple store. I was ready to discard the 500G HD since there was little help and Iomega seemed difficult to find an answer.
In my other residence I have a PowerBook G4 with 10.5.8 system and much to my surprise the 500G HD is fully working. Now my further discussion of this problem with Apple was not helpful. They had not heard of another similar problem and did not direct the problem to them but to Iomega, as I suspected. I tried to illustrate how as new systems were presented they alone or with the device supplier drivers or solutions were forthcoming and my example was with numerous printers. This was rejected reasoning.
My conclusion is there is no driver for the 500G with 10.6.2. It seemed to initially work especially since I upgraded to 10.6 as it was originally released. Up grading to the latest Apple upgrade to 10.26.2 must have created the problem.
If there any help and it must come from Iomega some combined effort by both Apple and Iomega. Now my problem is to convince them to own up to the incompatibility that occurred.

Is your storage too full?
Check Settings > General > Usage and make sure your available space is absolutely no less than 10% of your device's total space.
