Help- if you use parallels please respond

Running windows 7 on MacBook pro using parallel desktop 5. All I wanna do is organize my photos that are in the mac pictures directory with windows photo gallery, wfg sees the pictures and I can even delete them, but I can't move a picture from a folder to another folder, I've set read write permissions everywhere I could think of, still no luck, please help. Thankyou

I use Parallels. What is the Mac pictures directory? Do you mean the Pictures folder in your Home folder? There are probably a number of solutions but perhaps it might be easy for you to just drag the photos you want to put into wpg (windows photo gallery) from the Mac side to the Windows side.

  • CSM: need help, are you using shared policies only or inheritence or whatever

I'm starting with CSM and the biggest problem for me is what to use shared policies only and/or local-inherited policies.
it would be great to hear from you what you use and maybe even why. my environment is 2 FWSM 40 contexts and about 30 ASA Firewalls.

Most users use shared policies. It is probably because they want to centrally manage the policy that is used in many devices, and not need to change the parent device every time they need to make a policy change in inherited policies.
    I hope it helps.

  • Can't print using Parallels. please help

I have my iMac on 10.4.11 running parallels.
I cant add my home printer. When it gets to the BROWSE FOR PRINTER dialog box, there is no printer available.
I have done all the necessary steps to prepare my MAC and VMachine for sharing (all the steps layed out in the Parallels Knowledge Base).
    any thoughts? thanks!

Since Parallels is not an Apple product, you'll probably want to post your question over on Parallels own discussion forums, as they've obviously more geared toward your issue rather than an Apple forum.

  • Help: Can you use software trigger on a digital line.

    Hi:
We have a legacy DAQCARDard 700 which does not support hardware triggering.
We have a trigger from our instrument that is 5 V+ and we would like to
trigger when it drops to 0 V. We have several questions.
    1. Do we need to invert the signal in MAX or is that only for V that are
    negative?
    2. Is there a good example in the examples where the state of this digital
line is used to trigger an analog acquisition? When we tried using the
digital trigger examples, we had an error saying that the hardware did not
    support that mode.
    3. We have an analog software trigger mode (based on the Analog Software
Trigger example) working which we would like to modify over to read the
digital line, but we have done very little wi
    th digital I/O.
    4. The digital trigger has been assigned a virtual channel of dtrg.
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Pete

    Thanks Doug,
If we read the digital line instead of as an analog line would it improve
the accuracy of the triggering. Everything works now except we have a
little bit of timing jitter within about 1 data point scanning at 50 kHz.
However, I've never done any digital i/o with LabView, but may I should work
through some of the tutorials. If you thought that this might solve the
jitter problem. Would checking the state of the digital line allow a faster
response with softtrig, I guess is my question?

  • Help with buying used printer, please!

I have 5 - 15AHP Laserjet Print Cartridges (my sister closed her office) .....  I have a LaserJet 4000 and the 15A doesn't fit of course.
I am thinking of buying a used printer so I could use these cartridges.  15A fits HP Laserjet 1000; 1005; 1200; 1220; 3300; and 3380.  Can I get some suggestions on which one to buy and where?  I really just need straight printing and don't want to spend a lot.
    thanks
    LK - Denver

While it is true that Canon does take some time to release official driver for the new OS, the reality with ML is that the current 10.7 drivers do install and function on 10.8.
For the iR2016, here is a link to the UFR2 v2.41 driver from Canon Australia.
Also, with the iR2016 supporting the PCL printer language, you could use the Generic PCL Laser driver included with ML. Although I am not sure about this Generic driver supporting A3 printing, so I would have to confirm this.

  • Need help with freezing...please respond!

I just got my reconditioned ipod mini yesterday. The problem is that at the main menu the scrolling mechanism works (thumb rotation), but the select button does not (I can't get into any submenus). I called Apple support, and they said to reset. I did this; the mini worked OK once, but then started to freeze up again, and now, no matter how many times I reset, it doesn't help...I'm stuck at the main screen, and the select button won't do anything. The apple support guy says he has to reset his mini 2-3x a week, but I've been able to make my ipod work only once or twice, and I've had it a day. PLEASE HELP.

I keep trying that too...doesn't seem to help. Have tried plugging it into the AC adapter and resetting; doensn't help. Updated my ipod/itunes software; doesn't help. I don't want to try restarting the ipod; I just spent 6 hours putting music on itunes today, and don't know how to create a backup...and I read the restart instructions and don't know how to do all of the steps. Its amazing to me that this unit works so poorly literally the first day out of the box. How disappointing.

  • HEED HELP QUICLKY!!! Please respond!

Hi all. I sold my iBook a couple of months ago to someone over the internet. Everything was fine until I got an email from him this morning stating that he tried to purchase Applecare, but could not because the computer was now past the 1 year mark for purchasing it.
He is stating that the original purchase date was October 6, 2005- but I know for a fact that the original purchase date was October 14, 2005- which means tomorow will be one year.
I am 99.9% certain that I gave him the orignal purchase reciept, but he says doesn't have it. I have asked him for the serial number, but I have not gotten a response yet.
My question is this: I registered the machine when I bought it, so is it possible for me to view that information somewhere online? I just need to confirm that I did in fact buy the machine on October 14th, not October 6th. He's seeking reimbursement of the cost of Applecare. I know he has no legal grounds for this, but I want to be helpful.

You won't find any help from Apple on these forums, as they are Volunteer Based. Your best bet is to go back to Apple and speak with a supervisor until you get this resolved. My Mom had a philosphy for resolving purchase disputes - keep asking for the next level of supervision until you get to the person who agrees with you. The higher up you go, the less that person wants to get bogged down in the details. Hope this gets resolved to your satisfaction.

  • IF YOU USE ORACLE'S OCI DRIVER...

Hi. Pardon the shouting. BEA wants to know how to support you as well as possible.
Right now, we want to know of customers who are using Oracle's JDBC driver (not
ours), and using it in the type-2 OCI mode, not as the thin driver.
If you are such, please respond to this post and/or email me. I have no questions
at this time, I just want to get a sense of who/how many of you there are. This may
influence how much driver-specific QA we do.

  • Virus Protection using Parallels?

Please excuse me if I have posted this in the wrong area. I am brand new to the world of Mac. I will be running MS XP under Parallels on my new MacBook for a few applications that have no Mac alternatives. I have read quite a bit that virus protection is not really necessary using OS X; my question is this: Will running XP on Parallels make my Mac vulnerable to more viruses? If it makes a difference, this computer will be on a network that has both Mac and PC users. Thanks.

Should you run AV software with Parallels? If you are running Windows in it, absolutely. When running WinXP in Parallels you are running Windows and are at risk for adware and malware.
Is your Mac at risk due to this? It can be but it need not be, that depends on how you use Parallels. Parallels creates a disk image and runs the virtualized installation from that disk image. Think of a big yard with a fenced in section. The yard is your Mac drive and the fenced in section is your Windows installation in Parallels. Without a gate, nothing can get it or out.
Note I said without a gate. Parallels has the option of letting Windows share Mac folders. This is a convenient way to share information between Mac and Windows and it constitutes a gate. I create websites using Mac tools but before uploading them, I need to verify that they look correct in MS Exploder 5, 6, and 7. So I share the WebSites folder I have my user directory with my Parallels WinXP installation allowing me to load my websites in my Windows browsers. That means Windows can read and write to that folder and constitutes a potential danger to my Mac installation.
So, use anti-malware software with Parallels? Yes. Worry that it might cause trouble for your Mac? A little. BTW, many ISP's offer free WIndows software. Check yours out.

  • Fans run full speed when using Parallels

I have Parallels installed on my MacBook but the problems is, whenever I run Windows XP, the fans run at full speed. I try not to run too many programs but nothing seems to help.
    Any suggestions?

I think that it's normal that the fans run full speed when you use Parallels. It also means that your MacBook's thermal paste was applied well.
Runing Windows XP in Parallels is a CPU intensive task and it takes a lot of power to run it. As a consequence the CPU get hot and the heat is transfered to the cooler, where the temp sensors sense it and make the fans run faster.
    It's normal.
I bet your MB doesn't get as hot as some do...

  • Href and target tags tutorial/help needed for use with an existing website

I have a website, (built through iweb), and an intro movie. I have spent a lot of time trying to understand the proper tags and how to use them without much luck. My goal is to have the homepage associated with my domain name load in a browser while at the same time have my intro movie open in a Quicktime Player window, play, and automatically close leaving the webpage visible. If anyone can point me to a tutorial or walk my through the process I would appreciate it.

Poster movie style. Requires QuickTime Pro:
Create an image (or a frame from your movie). This becomes the "poster". You could add text to it (Click to Play) in a graphic editor app to help your viewers or add text to the page under the image with these instructions.
Save this new file as poster.mov
It becomes the src="poster.mov" (source tag in the html code). Set its dimensions to fit your page layout.
Your "intro movie" will be your href="intro.mov" (href tag in the html code).
Open it with QuickTime Pro and then open the Movie Properties window. Click on the Presentation tab to see the choices. Automatically close option will close the QuickTime window. Automatically quit option will quit the running QuickTime Player app. This would be a better option as the browser should come back as the "front" application. You also want to check "auto play".
Use Save As (preserves fast start feature) and name this file intro.mov
In your html code for the QuickTime files you need to set target="quicktimeplayer" (this launches the QuickTime Player app instead of using the browser plug-in). It may also help if you use the full URL to both files in each tag (http://myserver.com/foldername/intro.mov).
One of mine as an example. It uses automatically close window:
    http://homepage.mac.com/kkirkster/mycareerfuture/
View the source code to see the tag structure. My page uses javascript instead of the older object/embed tag code.

  • My change to small screen facility has suddenly stopped working. Can anyone help as I use this a lot.

the change to small screen icon in top right hand corner of screen has stopped working. Can anyone help.

When you use the maximize/restore button, the window is restored to its last size. Some websites use a script to enlarge the window to its maximum size so when you switch from maximized to restored you hardly notice any change. You may have to manually resize the window by dragging the lower right corner. Does that help, or is the button just completely not working??

Why can't the songs be transferred to the device?  Is it because they are not authorized?  Were these 25 tracks purchased/downloaded with the same account you have used to authorize the PC/new iTunes library?
