HELP IM SO CONFUSED

i am putting cds onto my itunes, am i supposed to go through the "music" thing on the finder then through the "i tunes folder" (it shows two possible folders and the other is garage band). then if i click on the "itunes music folder" should i see all the music i have put on?

Naah. It's easier than that. (You have a Mac.)
Go to the blue apple (upper left corner) and select *System Preferences* and then go click on *CDs and DVDs*. Configure the menu so that iTunes opens up when you insert a music CD.
Now, insert a music CD and wait several seconds for iTunes to open up. Then, go to the File menu and select Import. Navigate to locate the CD and begin importing.

  • Help - Color Management Confusion!

    I'm hoping someone can give me some clear guidance as to how to configure my software to integrate color management so that what I see on my monitor is comparable to what I print or post on the web.  I've read all I can find on-line and looked through a number of books and magazines, but as my reading increases, so does my confusion - too many menus, options, links and connections.  I'll describe what I have in terms of hardware and software in as much detail as possible.  My hope is that someone can help me figure out how to coordinate color management across all platforms and outputs.
    I run an HP desktop with an ASUS IPD monitor.  I have ColorMunki and have reguarly conducted their diagnostic, which gives me an updated monitor profile every two weeks - when a new profile is created, it becomes my default under Windows 7 Control Panel Color Management.  I print with an Epson Stylus Photo R1900 with Epson paper and ink.  I use the printer and paper profiles supplied by Epson for the R1900 and specific papers.
    On the other end, I have Nikon photo equipment.  I set the color space on my cameras to ProPhoto and I shoot exclusively in Nikon raw format - .NEF.  I shoot a D90 and a D7000 with 12M and 16M files respectively.  I download directly from the SD card using Windows Explorer and then import into Lightroom 3.
    I have Lightroom 3 and Photoshop CS5 Extended.  I use Lightroom to import raw files into the catalog and to do basic editing.  From there, I publish to Smugmug as .TIFF files - directly from Lightroom.  I also export files from Lightroom to Photoshop CS5 Extended and save them as .PSD and .JPEG files.  The files that I export to Smugmug look pretty good - similar to what I see on my screen.  My real conundrum is with the Epson printer and Lightroom/Photoshop.  What I see on my monitor is very different from what prints.  From both platforms.  As a rule, the shots are too dark and the colors are often very muted.  This is especially true with images of people and skin tones.  They often come out looking pale gray or blue.
    Right now, my solution is to tweak and print until I get something close enough to print, while the image on my monitor looks horrible.  Needless to say, this is not a viable solution for the long term - it is too expensive and time consuming.  I've tried to read and then adjust adjust both programs, but I'm confused as to what to set where.  I've taken to explorting Lightroom files into Photoshop to use the soft-proof capability.  it works better but still not great and not consistent.  When I do the Photoshop soft-proof, I see signficant portions of most images as "out of gamut>"  I also notice that these areas are often the ones with odd colors.
    My problem, (well, one of them) is the multitude of menus that have color management inputs - how do I make sure they are all working together and reinforcing each other instead of working at cross purposes?  In Lightroom, I have Page Setup and Print Preferences, as well as Color Management options in the Print Module right hand panel.  In Photoshop, I have Print and Page setups, as well as Color Management menus.  There are also the Proof menus to consider.
    In Photoshop, softproofing, I think I ned to select teh printer profile so that Photoshop is showing me how the printer will interpret the color space.  I also think I need to be consistent in how I define the workspace - from Nikon to Lightroom to Photoshop to Epson.  If I use ProPhoto with my camera do I need to use that in every circumstance?  Should I switch to Adobe RGB?  I have printer setting color space turned off in both LR and PS.
    Can someone walk me through any or all of this?  Right now, all of these moving parts is making me dizzy.  It's said that a little knowledge is a dangerous thing.  This proves the point.  Three months ago, I had color management problems but had no idea what such a thing was.  Now, I know a lot more about it, but my results are no better - worse in some respects.  Anyone who can help will earn major Karma points and hae my undying gratitude for several months.  Sorry - that's all the compensation I can offer!
    Thanks in advance for any help.

    That was a nearly mature tornado forming in Nebraska, and it dissipated at the last moment because at that time the sun went down and the temperature dropped rapidly.  I was glad, because I was camping in a travel trailer at the time, and everyone knows trailers attract tornados.

    Please explain why and under what circumstances anyone would want to use a device independent profile as a monitor profile, which should be a device dependent profile.
    Here's one example, to answer your specific question:
    You have a monitor that provides sRGB performance (e.g., via a specific sRGB setting).  You judge (and/or ensure via your own calibration) that it provides satisfactory sRGB color accuracy for your needs, so you set the monitor profile to sRGB, which is accurate in this case.
    What does this do for you?
    Images displayed in Internet Explorer, which assumes your monitor is sRGB regardless of your profile, are now properly color-managed because you have made IE's assumption valid.  By the way, Microsoft does not appear to be going to change this behavior any time soon.
    Untagged images, considering a majority of untagged images assume sRGB encoding, are displayed properly by apps that just pass them through to the display.  Some browsers do this.
    sRGB images (the majority) are displayed properly by non-color-managed apps.  If you choose to set your preferred working space to sRGB, then your own processed images will display properly using your non-color-managed apps.  Such apps include various viewers, the thumbnails in Windows Explorer, etc.
    The sRGB IEC61966-2.1 profile is a clean, well-formed color profile and works well in virtually every color-managed application. It's the Windows default, so you can imagine most apps are very well tested with it.
    Screen grabs are already in the sRGB color space, so if your working space is sRGB then you gain simplicity and don't have gotchas when mixing screen grabs back into your workflow.
    Since the color-gamut is not wide, the distance between adjacent colors in a 24 bit color environment is smaller - the display of gradients looks smoother, and you might not crave 30 bit color quite so much.
    There are other subtle advantages as well, simply because so much of software development throughout history has assumed the representation of color images on computers is sRGB. It's akin to "going with the flow".
    In short, setting up a soup-to-nuts sRGB system means more images match more often across more applications with a system set up this way.  If I'm not mistaken, that's about what the original poster is asking about, which is why RikRamsay's response is not unreasonable.
    And there are, of course, some specific disadvantages to doing this.
    For one thing, one does not have the direct ability to work with a wider gamut of colors.  There are those who wish to work in wider gamut color spaces, have wide gamut monitors, and wide gamut printers.  Brighter, better managed colors may well help such a person set his/her work off from the crowd.  This is starting to become more and more important in this day and age of better and better wide gamut hardware.
    It's not straightforward to set up a system so that its sRGB response is accurate, though it is doable.  Can you trust the factory sRGB calibration of a monitor that advertises sRGB response characteristics?

  • Please help with SYNC confusion

    I have not wanted to use sync because of the following:
    I keep my CD-ripped music on an external hard drive, and i don't want to have itunes erase my ipod (all 32 gigs of it), if i attach it when the hard drive is not hooked up, say to sync to new apps, etc.
    However, i wanted to get the album art onto my Touch, and was told that the only way to do it was to sync the music after downloading the art. So, i thought, i can temporarily synch it to get the art on there. BAD IDEA. I tried a test to get it to sync one playlist and it erased all the music i spent 2 days putting on there! (obviously checking the box which promised to warn me if any of the data was changed...doesn't work)
    Now, I'm trying to build a folder for my sync operation, so i point the itunes library to that. But trying the sync (early test), it goes into a major operation syncing hundreds of files -- which are not in the library folder.
    Turns out i have a bunch of playlists in itunes, and sync seems to be somehow finding the songs in those playlists. Is this how it works?? Hmmm, i think, maybe that's good, it will get all my songs back this way, and i won't have to search through the hard disk to find them all again.
    BUT, these are old playlists, and i don't want to use them permanently. But now, if i delete the playlists, will the next sync also delete the SONGS from those playlists?
    If i switch to manual mode, and add new songs, will i not be able to get the album art to go on the ipod after downloading it? Is the only way to get album art to be in sync mode?
    If i have to stay in sync mode, is there a way to get everything that's syncing now (from the old playlists) into one main syncing folder, so i can delete songs from the ipod, and have them just removed from that sync folder, and not from the main music folders on the external drive (where they are apparently syncing from now)
    I am so confused and the manual has nothing about this. I've even searched on apple website and everything i've found is simplistic and doesn't explain these things.
    If anyone can help me i'd sure appreciate it.
    thanks,
    NJ
    PS I've deleted all the old playlists from itunes, restarted, and STILL the itunes library is including albums which are NOT IN THE FILE PATH. WHY? How can I stop this? How can i control the sync process if i don't even know why it is syncing these songs???

    I have been searching all day and I finally found something!
    Its the maual way but its better than nothing!
    Hope it Helps!

  • I need serious help. VERY CONFUSED!

    Well, I have been trying to change my iPod nano from Windows to MAC, so I connected my iPod and well nothing happened. So I look for some help . So , I tried to Restore it but it won't let me! because it says "you must connect using FireWire to restore this iPod. So I looked up FireWire in Finder and I can't open it so im Pretty confused. i thought it was a cable ut it wont go in to the computer. I don't know what to do! HELP!

    For switching from PC to Mac (or visa versa), you need to format the iPod on the new computer-which in turn erases your library. Would suggest this:
    -Create a playlist of all of the songs on your current computer, and burn them to a CD/CD's as a data disc(through iTunes).
    -Install iTunes and the latest iPod updater on the other computer
    -Connect the iPod with the Firewire cable & open the updater
    -Select "Format" and let it do it's thing
    -After it finishes, open iTunes & make sure your iPod is recognized
    -Pop in the CD/CD's, and drag/drop the files to the iPod Music folder
    -Back in iTunes, select File>Add Song To Library-select the songs in the iTunes Music folder you just added
    That's it! Hope it helps.

  • Hi, my phone has contacts and photos from over a year ago previously deleted appear on it today. i have not connected to itunes and icloud back up is switched off. can anyone help as its confusing as to which contact numbers are the correct ones . thanks

    Hi, needing advice, my phone today has contacts and photos from nearly a year ago that were deleted. I have not connected to itunes lately and icloud backup is switched off.. Its only annoying as some of my family have changed there phone numbers and now i cannot tell which is the correct number as there are now multiples. Any help would be great. Thanks

    Have you recently added your Facebook credentials? If you haven't synced with your PC recently, this is likely the reason.

  • Help please. Confused.

    I am trying to play a game called Runescape, When I try to use the msi gaming app, and try to go into *gaming mode* it just stays at 450 MHz instead of the 1080 it is supposed to give me. When I open up the msi afterburner it shows 1030 MHz but goes straight down to 450 mhz. When I try to just go silent mode and stream, it still just shows 450 mhz. Is this maybe because runescape does not require that much effort from the graphics card?
    Also, I will be playing World of Warcraft soon, will the Mhz change on this? or will it just stay 450 MHz? I built my gaming computer today so everything should be fine. All latest drivers installed as well.
    Is the gaming app just faulty? is the afterburner faulty? I am new to all this so I am not sure what is going on.
    Thanks in advance for any help!

  • HELP, Automator is confusing

    So, i used Automator when it first came out and managed to create a workflow that sequentially re named and numbered imported images..brilliant....but now either i am getting to old and slow or the guys and gals at mac are making this program something so awfully confusing you actually hate them for it...honest, if a Automator developer were pointed out to me i would put them in stocks!! haha  anyone any ideas to manage this dreadful program?

    deano-huub,
    Ok cool. Here you go. This is a start. Download it below and click on it and it will open in automator. Then click run. If you are satisfied with this workflow then save it is as app or a service.
    Let me know if you wanted it to do anything else.
    Here is the workflow which you can download:

  • XML Help -- State of Confusion

    If I go to one more White Paper or buy another book on XML I am going to scream..
    I got that off my chest. I have what I think is .XML script. I also have an Oracle 10G database. I am attempting to load the data into the database. My steps went something like.
    Create a XML DB Repository.... (I got the following error message:
    SQL> BEGIN
    2 dbms_xmlschema.registerSchema
    3 (
    4 SCHEMAURL =>'http://xmlns.oracle.com/xdk/message.xsd',
    5 SCHEMADOC => bfilename('orbmgr','message.xsd'),
    6 CSID => nls_charset_id('AL32UTF8')
    7 );
    8 END;
    9 /
    BEGIN
    ERROR at line 1:
    ORA-22285: non-existent directory or file for FILEOPEN operation
    ORA-06512: at "SYS.DBMS_LOB", line 523
    ORA-06512: at "XDB.DBMS_XMLSCHEMA", line 121
    ORA-06512: at line 2
    Do I need to create the table of XMLType before I create the repository?

    You don't have to buy another new book, but you should read...(i still have to do a lot myself ;-) Nethertheless. A lot of good Mark Drake examples are already on the current forum entry page. Look carefully regarding the dbms_xmlschema.registerschema syntax. Schemaurl shouldn't be the one you are using but something like http://www.mysite.com/blabla (could be a nonexisting one, as long as all references to this namespace are correct). The schemadoc reference is calling a directory called "orbmgr". Does it exist AND is de case-sensitive part correct (look for the CREATE DIRECTORY syntax in the manuals on otn.oracle.com ---> XML DB Developers Guide is an important one, including the SQL reference manual).
    If you would lookup the dbms_xmlschema.registerschema syntax you would also see references to input variables like local, etc. see below
    dbms_xmlschema.registerSchema
    schemaURL (namespace registration of XML schema)
    schemaDOC (resource pointer to your XML schema)
    local (or global)
    genTypes -->generate types
    genBeans (not implemented yet / future reference)
    genTables --> generate tables
    schemadoc --> where does your schema reside?
    If you would drag/drop it into the repository via webdav or via ftp then the syntax would be something like
    dbms_xmlschema.registerSchema
    (schemaURL => 'http://www.mysite.nl/myxsdplace/myxmlschema',
    schemaDoc => xdbURIType ('/public/droppedithere/myxmlschema.xsd').getClob(),
    local => TRUE,
    genTypes => TRUE,
    genBeans => false,
    genTables => TRUE
    CSID => nls_charset_id('AL32UTF8'));
    );

  • Need help resizing photos - confused as to why this isn't working

    Hi - I have a customer looking for photos to be 1024x683 and 360x240.  I sized my artboard in Illustrator to those dimensions, dropped in the photo and resized it to fit.  Saved file.  When running cursor over file name - blip comes up and says file size dimensions are 1504 x919 for example (they're all different) and these are examples on the ones that I sized for 360x240.  If anyone can respond that would be great as I'm supposed to have about 100 files out overnight tonight!  Thanks!...h

    You can use save for web, just don't forget to turn on clip to Artboard. Otherwise items off the artboard would make your document larger. An artboard not filled short of the EXACT edges, would also make your document smaller.
    If you need a different format, use export but check use arboards there and then choose screen resolution.

  • Need help with a confusing RecordStoreException

    Hello,
    i've got a problem with a RecordStoreException which only occurs sometimes on physical devices (im my case Motorola V3i RZR Cellphone).
    I'm storing approx. 50kb textdata in a couple of (sorted data) RecordStores. From time to time i need to delete all RecordStores and refresh my data with updatet textdata. But after deleting all RecordStores and saving some new, a RecordStoreException is thrown with the following message : "RecordStoreException ... information has been broken ... requested to read 94bytes but 64bytes read ... EOFException"
    This Excepton occurs ONLY SOMETIMES on physical devices and never in an emulator !!!
    The only way to save new RecordStores is to reinstall the application on the devices. Otherwise the Exception will be thrown everytime the application uses the RMS.
    Does anybody knows a solution for this problem?
    Thanks

    Eureka! You now understand the situation.
    Even the old standard for Mac OS X drivers for non-compatible cams, macam, says that it has no driver for ASUS (20") monitor camera.
    The macam status shows:
    not working (no documentation)
    With no working driver for the 20" ASUS, it is not surprising that there is none for the 27" either.  There may be good reason that ASUS won't (or can't) offer either the technical documentation or a Mac driver for their monitor's inbuilt webcam.  However, they apparently do not publish that information.
    If ASUS Technical Support cannot provide the driver you need for OS X, the ASUS will continue to be a ridonculous (sic) monitor whose webcam will not work with your OS X Mac.  The only other simple fix I can think of is to use the ASUS with a different PC that is compatible with this monitor and its inbuilt webcam.  What you do is certainly your choice.

  • RAM. Help! Very Confused!

    Hello,
    I have an iMac G3 350MHz w/ 320MB (64 MB chip that came w/ the computer and an additional 256MB chip I installed) I am planning to take the 64MB chip out and stick another 256MB chip in for a total of 512MB. The current speed of the 256MB chip I think is CL 3-3-3. Is that a bad thing?
    Also, would a generic chip be ok?
    I found a 256MB generic chip for $20.89.
    I have also noticed RAM producers sale hyperformace RAM, is that any good?
    Thanks.

    For Generic - read cheap but compatibility not assured.More RAM will speed up your system. No RAM product will be faster than any other in your system.
    The iMac's memory bus speed will limit the speed of whatever DIMMs you buy. iMacs CRTs were either 66MHz or 100MHz memory bus speeds. You can use PC66, PC100 or PC133 in a 66MHz system, or PC100 or PC133 in a 100MHz system but it will run at the lower speed. The iMac 350MHz has a 100MHz memory bus.
    Crucial will guarantee the RAM you buy will work in your iMac.
    You can choose CL2 or CL3 (CL2 = CAS Latency 222 = 2 Clock Cycles to Write, 2 Clock Cycles to Read and 2 Clock Cycles to Move data).
    The bottom line is you may get away with cheap RAM - but to avoid any issues go with the branded. (The only choice between PC133 and PC100 is the cost and whether you'll ever be able to transfer it to a PC133 system only).
    regards

  • Request help for confusion over Oracle single instance database

    Hello all,
    Following Oracle version was installed at the client site @ the moment
    Oracle Database 11g Release 1 (11.1.0.6.0) for Microsoft Windows (x64) on Non-Clustered enviornment.
    The clients are going to arrange another identical server and wants to configure it with 2 nodes windows cluster enviornement.
    The current server where Oracle server was installed will become active node of the cluster.
    The confusion is if we should install the following version on node 2
    Oracle Clusterware 11g Release 1 (11.1.0.6.0) for Microsoft Windows (x64)
    or
    node 2 should also be installed with
    Oracle Database 11g Release 1 (11.1.0.6.0) for Microsoft Windows (x64) version ?
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/enterprise-edition/downloads/111060-win64soft-099656.html
    Any help for removing confusion would be appreciated
    Thanks,

    I think it's first needed to think about what kind of configuration you want; Failsafe, DataGuard or even RAC? But you talk about clustered and an active node, so I take it the object is to create a Failsafe cluster.
    If you want to use FailSafe first read about it, for example use http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/windows/index-082893.html (Resources: Documentation)

    This is normal. Sony Ericsson Vivaz have the same thing. I noticed that the phone lacks auto focus similar to vivaz. You need to press the camera button to get a image focused. This works huh, less well. To get best "autofocus/picture" i noticed that you should press the take photo on the cell phone screen. It performs a better autofocus. I really hate that the phone dont autofocus all the time like my Logitech webbcam or old Vivaz phone... SE vivaz ran symbian also. In fact i hate it Nokia fix it!!!
