Help! Image Capture scanning detected images solid black! Screen cap inside.

I know this is not a forum for Image Capture, but there is no dedicated forum for it, and I figure there are smarter people here with regards to images.
Image Capture is scanning ~some~ detected images solid black. It presents an overview scan just fine, but than the final files are black.
Here is a screen capture:

iPhoto earlier than iPhoto 9 (11) does not support Grayscale because it adds  a color profile name Dot Gain 20%.  This profile is not compatible with iPhoto.  You can either rescan those photos as color photos or change the profile to sRGB or RGB.
I've created an Automator workflow application, Convert to JPG and Embed sRGB profile, that will convert B/W files to a jpg file with the sRGB profile.  However, is doing so it adds an additional jpeg compression level to the file resulting is a smaller file size but not a smaller image size. You can download it from Toad's Cellar.
The conversion will have to be done on the photos outside of iPhoto before they are imported.  So you will have to export the original files to a folder on the Desktop, run the application on them and then reimport the new files.

    Hi,
I would try a Safe Boot first.  (This will take longer than a normal Boot and you will need to Restart afterwards).
If it were an older OS I would also suggest going to System Preferences > Displays and making sure the display is set to Millions.  (My MacBook Pro does not have this option in Snow Leopard so I did presume Snow Leopard does not have it).
With some laptops there have been some issues with the cable up the back of the screen pulling loose with regular and frequent use of the lid, but this will not apply to you based on your specs.  (it does take time to appear and is also somewhat rare). However it seems enough contact with the camera can make it appear in System Profiler and power it on but not give a pic.
If a Safe Boot does not work I would also try a PRAM reset.
    Shut down the computer.
Restart it holding down Apple/CMD (or ⌘)+ALT( ⌥)+P+R Keys until you have heard three Start Up Bongs.
This is actually "less" destructive in that it clears less memory items than Safe Boot but they are different enough to warrant trying.
Do you have an older version of iGlasses installed ?
The one for Leopard does not work for Snow Leopard.
Do you have  Web Browser open ?
This may point to  Google Video Chat Plug-in and Flash Conflict.  It would be rare to allow another app to access the camera even if not displayiong a Pic.
(Chrome Installs the Plug-in as does the standalone download).
Knowing  what "any application" exactly you are trying might help us pin it down.
Any additional downloaded  apps that can use the camera ?
Do you happen to have something balck in front of the camera ?

  • Image capture cannot detect Epson 10000XL over network.

I have an Epson Expression 10000XL scanner with an ethernet card, connected to an Airport Express, and then wirelessly to my iMac. The Epson Scan application detects the scanner and allows scanning to take place, but Image Capture does not detect the scanner.  How do I also get Image Capture to detect my scanner wirelessly?  Thank you.

As promised, I called Apple this morning, and they said that Epson (not Apple) was responsible for providing the drivers for their scanners.  Since I can connect my iMac and Epson scanner to all of my scanning applications through a USB connection, and can only connect wirelessly to Epson Scan, it follows that Epson provides only a driver to connect with their proprietary Epson Scan and no drivers for connecting to other scanning software, including Image Capture.
This looks like the end of my efforts to connect wirelessly to Image Capture.  Thanks for your help, PAHU.

  • Automate image capture scanning

Is there a way to assign keyboard short cuts to the 'preview' and 'scanning' buttons in the Image Capture Scanning Interface?

(I don't see a preview button- I assume you mean the "overview" button).
There is probably a way to write an applescript to do this. Or you could create a service in Automator (using the record feature), and then assign a keyboard shortcut to the automator service.
Or you can use Quickeys Startly - QuicKeys 4 for Mac OS X
I've always found automator to be somewhat unreliable for this kind of thing, but I just created the service and the keyboard shortcut in a few minutes of playing around, and it seems to work. Quickeys has been more reliable for me.

  • How to use Image Capture to transfer images and video from Iphone

I was wondering if I can use the program Image Capture to transfer image and video files from my Iphone? I set up my iphone to be synced with my laptop and tried opening up Image Capture and the program does not read any device attatched. However once I tried connecting my iphone to my imac and Image Capture opened up automatically. Would it be because my iphone is synced with my laptop that prevents it from reading in Image Capture? Any input would be appreciated!

On your laptop, open iPhoto and check it's preferences > General, "Connecting camera opens ..." The available choices are iPhoto, Image Capture, or no application. Make sure it's set correctly.

  • IBook will not start up - solid black screen

I am in love with my iBook and have not had a single problem with it the first sixteen months I had it. This morning I was using it and everything was fine, I put it to sleep, then it fell from a desk onto my foot. It fell at an angle, but my foot broke the fall. After that it does not start up, but remains in a solid black screen. The caps lock and number lock lights change when the appropriate buttons are pushed, but the power button does nothing, there is no sound, no fan, nothing.
When the battery is in, the power cord light is amber, but when I remove the battery, it goes to green. I have tried starting with the battery in and without it. The computer is slightly warm on the bottom. Also, the four lights on the battery are constantly lit, which I never noticed before.
Naturally I created an iMovie for a Christmas gift that I have not yet burned, so I want to resolve this asap.
Please offer suggestions! I'm not the most technically minded person, so layman's terms would be much appreciated. I looked through 20some pages of posts, but none of the suggestions seemed to help.
I do have the disks that came with the computer, but when I tried to insert a dvd, the computer would not even accept it all the way and did nothing to respond.
    Thanks for any suggestions!

    Cricket419,
    Welcome to the forum.
I was told I can never buy one. Ever. Nice customer service there. I'm sure they know the majority of the warranties are never used, so I was offering pure profit for basically nothing on their part. As much as I love my computer, I'll think twice next time if this is how they respond to customers' requests to purchase additional items.
On the other hand; the flip-side of the coin as it were, there's this post from someone with a totally opposite experience from you:
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=1348953#1348953
Specifically the following, from The TKDKid:
He spoke to the store manager, who authorized an exchange for a brand new one. They asked me if I could leave it for a couple of hours, and transferred all my files and personal settings to the new one. I was very pleased with the service I got.
I'm glad that your iBook is working again. With regards to AppleCare we all have 1 year from the date of purchase to buy it. It's up to us to decide and to remember to buy AppleCare during this period should we choose to do so. If we forget, then it's our fault and we have to own the fact that it's our fault, accept it and move on. It's not Apple's responsibily or fault.
If you have Home Contents Insurance then an option for you is to add the iBook to the items covered. Some (most?) home contents insurances automatically include repairs/replacement to computer damage (including any damage caused by accident). That would solve your cover queries. Wouldn't it?

  • Image capture and detect separate items

I have a Lexmark Genesis S816 multifunction printer and am using Mac OSx 10.7.5.  I am trying to scan multiple photos and have an issue with "Detect Separate Items".  This feature works, but with odd quirks.
With the details panel open, the initial scan works well.  On the second scan, I have multiple boxes on the screen and each picture is scanned multiple times.  The Use custom size check box is checked and I am saving the images as .jpeg with a resolution of 300 dpi.
If I close the details panel, the images are scanned a single time, but I have no control over the size or position of the images.  If a picture has a light background, the automatic feature cuts off part of the picture, believing the image stopped at that point.
    Any suggestions
    Dave

    John,
Can you take a look and delete any of these files that exist:
    ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.Image_Capture.<some long number>.plist
    ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.ImageCapture2.<some long number>.plist
    ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.ImageCaptureExtension2.<some long number>.plist
    ~/Library/Preferences/Image_Capture.plist
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.ImageCaptureApp.plist
Yes I know a couple of them were already on your list. If they are back, delete them again. Hopefully this will get you to a clean starting point.
    Just trying to help.

  • Image capture scan

When I try and scan a brochure it captures each image separately...not the whole page?

Note that in Image Capture the option for Auto selection is only available if "Custom Size" is checked.

  • Image Capture not detecting Scanner over Network

I have an Epson Workforce 610 which is installed as a network printer (wired ethernet) in my Home Office. OSX Mavericks will find and load the ppropriate drivers for the printer, and printing is fine. However Image Capture does not show the scanner portion in its window. Devices read as (0).
If I connect via USB cable the Scanner shows up with no problem. Disconnect USB no scanner.
Has anyone got a workforce 610 successfully scanning over ethernet?

On the network computer, does System Preferences save it as a Shared Printer?
The reason I ask is that I can't.
I can select and save as follows:

  • Image Capture scans the whole bed?

How can I set Image Capture to scan only the document?
It scans the whole scanning bed and is adjusting my printed page so that it shrinks the image terribly. I make doll patterns so this is important to me to scan close to the size I draw. We can do it on my husband's windows laptop *shudder* but not my brand new Apple computer.
This is the least user-friendly system I've used since I bought my first Apple computer in 1993.

  • Image Capture scans to Pictures folder

I'm using CanoScan LiDE 200, with Image Capture, with scans going to iPhoto.
But the scans are also saved in Pictures folder.
How to stop the scans go to Pictures folder ?
    Thanks!

    correction to my post above:
.....the location to which IC scanning is iPhoto. That's no problem, it's checkmarked.
What happens is that both, the  'Pictures' folder small window opens when scanning, and you can see how a tiny thumbnail is being added there, and iPhoto opens.
It's not the "Pictures" folder that opens(in addition to iPhoto, which is checkmarked), but a small window that says: "Scan Results".
On the bottom a button "clear". Pressing "clear", removes the thumbnails from "scan results", but they're still in "Pictures" folder.

  • How to print from Image Capture Scan Overview

Image Capture 2.1.4, on Powerbook G4, with Mac OS 10.3.9, can take an Overview, low-resolution prescan from my scanner. I could then choose to print the prescanned image.
This allowed for a fairly convenient copy facility, but with preview before printing.
No image save was necessary or desired.
With Image Capture 4.0, on Macbook Pro, with Mac OS 10.5.5, print of the prescanned image includes the entire Image Capture panel (Scan mode, bit depth, resolution, format, etc.)
Why do I want to print all that?
Is there a way with Leopard to set Image Capture to print just the scanner image without the panel and without image save?
    Thanks,
    Wrekngcrew

I wish I had an answer...I'd like to know how to just print something from Image Capture instead of generating a file, then having to print it from Preview....
