Help! iMovies jammed and need to download a fresh copy

my iMovies which was preinstalled on my mac pro (late 2011) jammed after converting tape to digital. I had to delete iMovies, though where can i download a full version of iMovies to continue my works? No cd's were accompanied with the mac pro on purchase and i can't find anything on the computer to reinstall.

If your Mac Pro originally came with iMovie but did not come with any install disks, you should be able to reinstall it directly from the Mac App Store. You may find the following articles helpful:

I had approximately 15 projects that I can no longer see in imovie. I have read almost every thread on this community for imovie regarding error messages associated with looking for clips. In each case I have rebuilt the project. However, today I continually received a message to search for a .dv file. I have located the file and even changed the .dv file to .mov file and yet none of my projects will appear. I have rebooted, deleted the plist and nothing works.
I was planning on buying a new Mac in 2014 with new editing, and use my old Mac as a backup for imovie files. Very frustrated that I can’t work with any projects now! I se the files in my Movies/imovies/iprojects folder but they don’t appear in the viewer.
Does anyone have a suggestion on how to get back my projects into the viewer? Or, can someone recommend a basic program compatible with imovie 08 that I can use to import my exiting projects into?

No, Wasn't sure if I could continue to upgrade to 9.0.9 since my Mac is relatively old.
Just don't understand why I have to keep starting a project over and over again. As I type this, the imovie icon is jumping and asking for "clip 135-02-05-05;27:15" cannot be found. Without this file, the movie cannot play properly." I have located this clip and pointed imovie to the clip, and nothing happens. There is an Apple USB super drive you can buy or any Mac compatible external DVD player.
Sorry to have nagged at you but you can now see why I couldn't answer your question from the start. I had no way of knowing there was no slot in the model you have.

The slightly bigger question is whether you want to move all movie content to the external drive (essentially meaning that drive will always need to be attached when you're working with your videos), or whether you just want to archive older videos off to the external drive.
If you want to move all videos, then just move the 'Movies' folder in your home directory to the external drive, then create an alias of the external 'Movies' back in to your home directory. Now the 'Movies' icon in your home directory will point to the external drive and everything will just work (as long as the external drive is attached when you launch iMovie)
If you want to archive older movies then each Movie should have its own subdirectory within your Movies folder. These can easily be moved off to the external drive, and moved back should you ever need to work on those movies again.

Did you look in your downloads folder? If you are using Safari to download then look at Safari - Preferences - General and look in where it says Save downloaded files to. If you have left it to the defaults download folder you will find that under ~/downloads the ~ means your home folder. You can find that in Finder.
I know you are to OS X so you are probably just unlearning some old bad habits. I'd recommend book marking and using:

If your profile is correct you're already on the final version of Snow Leopard (10.6.8). Sure it wasn't Lion it was asking for?
If that's the only version available on the app store, you'll need to source a copy of the iWork '09 DVD - not cheap now - only available via Amazon or eBay etc.

First of all, I have to ask, why to you "need" to install a fresh copy of OSX?
This may mean that your hard drive is failing, so hopefully you have a backup.
I'm assuming you were in your recovery partition when you did this.
I would, from the recovery partition, repair your hard drive and permissions.

And then try to create the partition again.
If that doesn't work, you have a few options:
Try a third party utility like DiskWarrior or TechTool which may be able to repair your hard drive:
DiskWarrior 4 - The Disk Utility for Mac Disk Repair, Mac Directory Repair, Mac Disk Recovery, Mac Data Recovery or Techtool Pro 7
Try internet recovery, perhaps erase the entire hard drive and reinstall ML.
If nothing else works, then I'd replace the HD and start over.
