Help - Import only new photos?

IPhoto used to give me the option of doing this....how do I do this again? I would prefer not to have to Import every photo in my digicam everytime I Import new photos. Please help!

Gee, apparently no one has.
If it's any consolation, LOst6rL, I've got the same problem. My iPhoto 4 even goes to the trouble of ASKING me if I want to import photos from my camera that have already been imported, but then ignores my answer and re-imports duplicates.
Then I have to "Select" all the duplicates, and hit "Delete." What a hassle.

  • Import from photo stream into Lightroom 5.7 - how can I import only new photos since first import of all photos in stream (mac)

    Hi
Importing my photos from photo stream (mac) went well, got 2012 photos out of my photo stream into LR 5.7 with the help of the new plug-in.
Now I have 3 new photo's in the stream and I want to add them to the library of LR.
When starting up the plug-in it tells me it will import 2015 photos, instead of just 3.
I hesitate to continue the process and to try my luck as I'm afraid I will end up with more than all 2012 photos doubled.
    Any experience out there yet?
    Thanks!
    Kind regards
    Jan

    Found it.
At first I was scared off because LR showed the same amount of photos to be imported the second time as it did before the first import.
Fortunately, the second import did nothing but import the new photos.
    Thanks.

  • Importing Only New Photos from iPhone?

Is it possible to import just the new photos from my iPhone to my computer using iPhoto? Every time I connect my iPhone it wants to re-import every photo in my camera roll-- not just the ones that are new since the last import. I don't want to delete the older photos from the iPhone and I'm tired of re-importing the same photos over and over and having to delete the duplicates.
    iPhoto 6.06, iPhone 3G
(Message cross-posted to iPhoto 6 forum)

I using iPhoto version 7 included with iLife 08 which allows for this, but I delete all photos from my iPhone after being imported by iPhoto - as I usually do with any other digital camera after the import process is complete.
If I want any of the most recent imported photos available on my iPhone for viewing, I add the photos to an existing iPhoto album that is selected to be transferred to my iPhone followed by a sync, or I create a new iPhoto album for the photos, select the new alum under the Photos tab for my iPhone sync preferences followed by a sync.

  • IPhoto 7.1.5 - Disappearing Photos After Import of New Photos

This is a revisit of an earlier problem that has been addressed in several discussions. The problem is reproducible.
Background: Running 10.6.7 and iPhoto 7.1.5
I have a 14 GB Photo Library with > 10 thousand photographs. After importing another 100 photos, iPhoto AGAIN showed ONLY the latest event photos. Closing iPhoto and reopening iPhoto shows all of the events for ~1 sec and then "poof" the photo library says that there are 0 photos. I have followed the instructions in numerous discussions including my earlier post. Nothing works permanently.
SUMMARY: Repeated rebuilds of the photo library with iPhoto Library Manager (iPLM) bring the events/photos back until the next photo import. Then I am back where I started.
    I have done the following:
    1. Booted on the startup CD and checked and repaired all disk permissions (many) and other disk errors (none).
    2. Made a backup of the photo library.
    3. Rebuild photo library in iPhoto.  No joy. This NEVER helps anything.
    4. Deleted pLists and opened iPhoto. No help.
    5. Ran BatChmod to check on all of the permissions to RW. No permission problems are seen now.
    6. Ran iPhoto Library Manager and confirmed permissions set there are OK. It is important to make sure that the permissions are  set correctly to RW in iPLM.
    7. Ran iPLM and I can access ALL of the events and photos. (This is where the last discussion ended.)
    8. Imported more photos from my iPhone and  “poof” no more photos seen in iPhoto. I Go back to step 7 and wait 1.5 hours for a rebuild in iPLM.
Any further suggestions would be helpful. This is occurring after EVERY import of new photos. As long as I do not import more photos I can access all events and photos.

    Tony:
It could be that the card has been compromised and iPhoto doesn't recognize it. Open Image Capture and see if you can upload the photos to a folder on the desktop. If that can be done reformat the card with the camera, take a couple of test shots and try again.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

I have been using Lightroom 4.4 successfully for over 2 years.  Just tried to import some new photos after a vacation and the application crashes when I click "import" every time.  Tried restarting computer.  Version says it is up to date.
How do I get formal support for this from Adobe?

Thanks for the response.  The application was crashing.  A Windows message was displayed showing "Lightroom.exe has stopped working", "Windows can check online for a solution the problem.". Etc.
I just launched Lightroom to check the exact message for this reply - and the Import worked.  It had failed dozens of times before.

  • How can I import only new pictures from my iPhone 5C?

I want to import only the newest pictures from my iPhone to my desktop.  I used to get a prompt asking me if I wanted to import only the new pictures, and now there is no prompt and my only option is to import all of the photos on my iPhone.  I appreciate any help!

  • Why can't I import my new photos from my iPhone 4 anymore?

Recently I restored my phone with the new OS5 update.  I lost the password to my backup so I had to start over.  Now I go to import my photos into iPhoto.  In iPhoto, I see thumbnail slots that represent the photos on my iPhone (if you click on the thumbnail slot it actually even says all the info about the photo under the information section), but no actual thumbnails.  I select import all and it says "iPhoto cannot import your photos because there was a problem downloading an image."  So I said, cool, well maybe it's because the file numbers are doubled up because I started over with my new software and a new backup file.  I open image capture and it shows all the photos as thumbnail slots here too, but no actual thumbnail photos.  I hit download all and it quickly goes through and looks like it's downloading everything.  After it's done, I check the target folder and there are NO photos.  I've done it over and over and gotten nothing.  Now I can't get my new photos off of my phone. Help!!!

I restarted my computer and iPhoto recognized the photos right away. When in doubt, restart.

  • Best practices for importing archived/new photos into LR?

    Hi All,
New to LR 2.7.  After countless tutorials and online chats, I am still confused as to how LR manages image files.  It's like HS algebra all over again!
Is the LR designed and intended for managing all of your photos or just those that need editing?
Do you import all photos for one giant library?
Is it best to save photos on external drive first then import to LR?
For photos that are saved on an external drive, is it still necessary to copy them to a folder on your computer before importing or can you work directly from the drive? Is there a risk here?
If you are importing directly from your memory card into LR, do you first need to save them to the external drive to avoid losing the original images?
Looking for simple step by step routine to follow for archived photos and for new photos
    Thank you for your help!!

    All of them.

    I do.

You can store the images where you want, internal, external or network, and you can import directly from a card to that location.  LR won't delete the images off the card, you have to do that separately.

  • Importing only some photos from camera to computor

My Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT contains 550 photos, according to my iPhoto window. My PowerBook G4 hard drive does not have enough space on it to accommodate my importing all those photos. There is nothing in the iPhoto window or menus that offers a way to import fewer than all those photos, much less send them to my external hard drive.
I downloaded the appropriate versions of Image Browser and Camera Window, but neither of these acknowledge the existence of my camera. Advice?

    Hi Charles,
You can use Image Capture to import your photos. You can choose where to download them to and create a new folder to download them into.
First you need to open Image Capture and in the Preferences have it open when a camera is connected. When you next connect your camera, under the options have it download the photos to a connected external drive.
Using Image Capture to download images and video clips:
Open up Image Capture which is found in the Applications folder.
When it is opened, go to Image Capture/Preferences
    Under the General button choose
Camera: When a camera is connected, open Image Capture.
The next time you connect your camera Image Capture will open.
In the window that opens you will see an Options button. Click on that button to set your options.
To find out more about Image Capture (it can do a lot more) Click on Help in the menu bar when Image Capture is open.

  • Importing ONLY rated photos from Canon 5d3 to lightroom 4.4

Is there a way of rating a handfull of photos in the Canon 5d3 and import only the rated photos to lightroom 4.4?
I dont use the canon software supplied as it is just one more thing to do and will delay the process if i want to get news images out quickly.
    Thanks

    Thanks for the replies.
First, I don't have a card reader and yes, I probably should get one eventually.  To clarify, import is not slow, it simply does not even attempt to import.  When I connect my 50D with a card full of RAW files, LR detects it but it shows "No Photos Found."  I honestly don't think that it is LR's fault, it really seems like there is some obvious setting I have missed on either my camera or LR.
    Thanks.

  • Lightroom 4 will not import any new photos from Camera or a folder, "could not be read message" or "could not copy to requested location message"

One day everything worked and the next everything except importing new photos worked. What could be the problem? Did a recient Adobe update do this?

These messages usually mean the destination folder does not have WRITE permission. Change your permissions. (It's possible that it stopped working because the destination folder was accidentally changed, in which case you may only need to change the destination folder back to what it was previously)

  • How do delete photos from iphone after import to new photos app?

With iphoto (or aperture which I own), after importing photos I was always asked if I wanted to remove the photos's from my phone. With the new photo's app I don't get that option, and I certainly don't want to delete 1200 photos by having to individually select each one on the phone. Any ideas?

You should ask on the forum that Apple told you to use for Beta software discussions. This isn't the place. The moderators will likely soon remove your post.

  • HT201317 Got new Apple TV to replace 2nd gen but only new photos are in new one any way to load all 1000 pics onto the stream

    Read above

Don't turn photo stream off on your other devices.  When you do it deletes your photo stream photos and when you turn it back on you will only receive photos added to your photo stream during the last 30 days, as older photos are no longer in iCloud.
Instead, create a shared photo stream on your iPhone that includes the photo stream photos that are not on your other devices and invite yourself as a subscriber (see http://help.apple.com/icloud/#mmc0cd7e99).  You can then access these photos within the photo stream section of your photo albums.
To save your photo stream photos on your device permanently, save them to your camera roll (tap Edit, tap the photos, tap Share, tap Save to Camera Roll).
