HELP... Importing from Cannon DC330.. miniDVD

I know this camera is compatable! I should be able to just open iMovie (have 08), plug the camera in and the import window should open... it doesn't. When I go to File and Import from Camera or just click on the little camera, the window will open but will just show the buit in i-sight camera. For the life of me I can't figure out how to get my Cannon to show up.
If I go to System Profile the camera shows under USB! HELP PLEASE.. I'm ready to pull my hair out! THANK YOU!

p.s. I have done all the trouble shooting!

  • Can't import from Cannon HV20.

I can't import from my Cannon HV20. The camera does not show up as an external camera. I just get the message "to import video, please connect a camera". I get the same message when connecting to my laptop and I have tried two different firewire cables. I have gone through the settings on the camera and I don't see anything that would prevent it. I have the camera in play mode and powered on. I have successfully imported from this camera many times. This started yesterday when I plugged the camera in while using ichat and ichat crashed. I suspect the firewire connection on the camera is damaged.
    Any ideas?

I have the same problem with a different camera.
I have used my Sony TRV27 Handycam in making movies primarily with iMovie 6.0.3 on my former G5. It did record from the camera to iMovie 7.1.4 on my Intel core 2 but now can't get in to import to either program 6.0.3 or 7.1.4. It will not recognize that the camera is attached or switch the camera icon to camera mode. If it does it only shows Built in iSight or Time Lapses.
I prefer to use the older iMovie camera because of the options and familiarity of it. I do not care for the newer iMovie program format.
I went to the system profiler as suggested and found firewire but have no idea what the Firewire Device Tree looks like nor did I see anything on the right except Firewire Bus speed.
I have been using the cord from Sony in the past to import movies. My computer does not show the camera even though in Finder/Preferences connected services are checked to show up on the desk top.
I phoned Apple Care today and got virtually no help. The gentleman kept saying it was the camera that was at fault. Or it was the ? slot in the computer that wasn't working. They both work. I checked. I see by posts a lot of other camera owners are having similar problems.

  • HELP- importing from sony hdr-ch7

i just got a sony hdr-hc7. when i import to i-moive the sound does not match up with the video. it works fine when you watch it on the camera but when it gets imported it gets off...
    any ideas?

    Welcome Christian:
    Does this help?
Details are on page 58 upper left corner of your HC7 manual: In the HC7 settings make sure you have i.Link -> DV conversion turned off if iMovie is set to HD. (Conversely, make sure the DV conversion is on if iMovie is working in DV. That is, just make sure your streams are matching formats.)
Given they do what you recommend first Michael, I think some may also not understand:
    1. Must have iMovie 6 OPEN
    2. Plus the camera must be ON
    3. Plus camera must be in VCR mode.
    4. Then Plug In The FireWire
    5. In iMovie preferences AND the HC7 make sure the settings are coordinated with the settings Michael lists above. Nothing will work if they are not.
    6. Make sure your iMovie MODE is switched to the camera position. That's the little slider that has a camera icon on the left and a pair of scissors icon on the right. Without that toggle switched to the left next to the camera icon communication is impossible (as the Japanese like to say).
    7. In that mode you will see a blue screen with the words "Camera Attached" in white in the middle of it. Your time code will appear in the upper right corner. (If not you will see the words "No Camera Attached" with a button for "Connection Help" that will launch Apple's own help file including links to other pages that can help as well.)
    7. Press play in iMovie and you will see the stream playing from the camera.
    8. Press the "Import" button and it will begin to copy the stream to your Movie Folder.

  • Need help importing from HD camcorder

    Hey,
So i just purchased a new canon vixia hf10 HD camcorder. when i create a new project and attempt to import files into the computer, it tells me there's something wrong (i think it said something about firewire, which doesnt make sense cuz it's importing through USB). anyway i'm starting to think that the format that the camera is trying to import will not be accepted by my mac. It came with a windows program called pixela imagemixer which wont help me much because it's not mac-compatible and plus i'm hoping to use Imovie to edit my movies. any ideas on how i can solve the problem?

If you are using iMovie 5 (which is the forum you are in) your camera is incompatible, as it is not producing a DV stream nor connected by firewire.
As you are on Leopard, try upgrading to iMovie 8, which should work with your camera as well as with USB.

  • Help importing from Camera

We just got a mac and got rid of our PC and I have NO idea how to make this work :o) I have a Kodak CX4200, which is on the list of compatible cameras. When I plug it in, and turn it on iPhoto will sometimes pop up like it says it will. The rainbow spinn-y thing will go for a few minutes, like its trying to do something... but it never actually does anything- no New Roll ever comes up, no import button ever comes up. It just goes straight back to the Library Page as though I just opened iPhoto. I have also used different USB plugs to see if one of them wasn't working quite right, but the same thing happens. I thought maybe I needed to upgrade, but I have the newest version. Anyone have an idea of how to fix this? Thank you!!!

Go to Applications -> Image Capture. In the Preferences to Image Capture, (Image Capture menu -> Preferences) set Image Capture to launch when you connect a camera. Then connect the Camera. Does Image Capture see the camera? If so, drag the pics over to a folder on the Desktop.
Next, launch iPhoto. Import the pics using the file-> Import command.
    Does that work?

  • Help Importing from External Drive

i store all my music on my external drive and when i open itunes and select preferences. click advanced, then general ... then to select my drive i choose my EXTERNAL... then all is well! all my music goes into itunes and everything is great.
however, when i remove the external by ejecting it, then put it back in, itunes still plays the music but my itunes music folder location is not external...
how can i make it so that it's always my external?

Never open or run iTunes when the external is not connected and mounted. If iTunes runs and can not find the drive it defaults back to the internal drive location.

  • I have the new macbook pro from late 2011. when i try plugging my cannon gl2 into the mac via firewire 800 it does not show up in iMovie as an option to import from. i even have gone into my settings on the camera and changed it to vcr.

I have the new MacBook Pro from late 2011. "the one before the new ritina display" i have a cannon gl2 video camera which is mini dv. when i plug it into my mac via firwire 800 it does not show up in the iMovie. i have set the settings on the camera to vcr mode and changed it to av->dv out. when i click on the import from camera on imovie it doesnt even show my camera in it. it just gives me the option to import video from my facetime camera. the camera is turned on the wires are connected i know for fact that its a firewire and not a usb. i know what they each look like. i bought the firewire cable and it was marked down cause it was an opened and used item. would it be possible that it could be deffected and if that is not the reason what other options do i have?

I would say that odds are high that you have a bad cable. Maybe that is why they returned it.
I would suggest trying a different firewire cable.
You can find Firewire cables inexpensively at monoprice.com. You need a 4 pin to 9 pin firewire cable.
    Here is a link.

    Other things to check:
Is your camera plugged in to wall power (not to batteries only). Must be hooked to an AC power source to import.

  • Can someone help me change the line width of my numbers table, its not set to thin or none and its stuck on .25. its a spreadsheet i imported from excel.

Can someone help me change the line width of my numbers table, its not set to thin or none and its stuck on pt25. its a spreadsheet i imported from excel.

    MR,
Apparently the import wasn't a good one.
The best option at this point might be to start a new table. Insert a new Table, Copy the old table cell range, select the first cell in the new table and Edit > Paste and Match Style. This will throw out all the old formatting. A bit of work, but a nice clean start.

  • Hang during import from camera or media - HELP!

iPhoto hangs during import from camera or media reader. Works for 20 or more photos, then hangs. No response at all. Must force quit. After restarting the import, it will go further the next time, then hang again. And again. And again. Eventually the import completes. After that, all is OK until next import. VERY FRUSTRATING. Especially with 8GB media cards. ARRGH!
I've tried rebuilding iPhoto library (all options). Using iPhoto 7.1.5 on OS X 10.5.6. 4GB ram, intel dual core.
Help me Obe-Wan. You're my only hope.

Once you get your photos use your camera to reformat your media card - problems like this can be caused by a flaw in the card format
And it is better to use a card reader to import yoru photos and after they are safely in iPhoto use your camera to reformat your card - this assues no data loss and keeps your card format fresh

I usually use the media reader. After the imports started hanging is when I tried importing direct from the camera to see if it made a difference. No difference.
I've reformatted the media. No difference. Still hangs on first import after reformat. Multiple media cards, all same result. Tried different USB ports, same result. Tried different media readers. Same result.

  • Problem importing Help topics from FrontPage into RoboHelp

    Hi there,
This is my first time here.
I am a tech. writer in my first job (I've been here a couple
    of weeks).
My company has just purchsed RoboHelp, and wants to import
it's Help topics from FrontPage (which I know nothing about) into
RoboHelp (which I know a teeny bit about).
I know the other tech writer here tried to import the topics,
    and had R.H. continually crash.
I am the only tech. writer here for the week (aaaggghh! lol),
and I need to know how to fix this problem.
Please, when you respond, imagine that you are taling to a
first grader , and keep the instuctions simple.
    Thanks in advance,
    Leigh-Anne

Hi Leigh-Anne. First off don't woory about being on your own.
We'll all been there at some point and come out the other side.
Rick asked you whether you had the project on a network
because this is the cause of so many RH problems. The underlaying
Access DB in RH doesn't work at all well there. It is highly
recommended that you work on your local PC and back up to a network
each night. You say there are two of you. If you are using the
RoboSource control features of RHX5 then you can have the project
on a network but the actual source files must be stored and changed
    on your PCs.
You could try creating a new RH project and import the
FrontPage topics a few at a time. If this works, try a few more
into the RH project. Repeat this until you hit the problem. Once
you do, import the topics one at a time until you hit the problem.
This will identify the offending topic - if indeed the problem is
in a topic! Once you're there, try creating a new topic and cut and
paste the old topic's elements into the new topic. It's all a
    process of elimination I'm afraid.
Try this and come back to the forum with any further problems
    you find.

  • RAW JPEG PROBLEM  I'm new to Aperture and neglected to mark RAW JPEG pairs when I imported (from iPhoto).  Now I have two images for each photo.  Help!!  How can I change this?

I’m new to Aperture and neglected to mark RAW+JPEG pairs when I imported (from iPhoto).  Now I have two images for each photo.  Help!!  How can I change this?

How did you import from iPhoto? If you saw the Import panel with raw -jpeg pairs, then you probably did not import your iPhoto library as library, but as files, and then you will see plenty of duplicates - previews, thumbnails, originls, edited versions. If that should be the case, it would be better to delete the import from iPhoto and to import your iPhoto library again, but this time using "File > Import > Library".
Only that would require compatible versions of iPhoto and Aperture.  What are your Aperture and iPhoto version numbers?

    ps
i got a backup for the files but even if they are on the mmc, when camera is connected fcpx doesn't see them. if i try to import a new shoot it works!!

Thx a lot Salty. As you suggest I found other staff on support pages. I deleted AVCHD structure and kept only .mts... Now what I need to do is to convert those files with handbrake or similar tool in .mp4 or .mov to make them digest to FCPX.
