Help importing music back to Itunes from Ipod

My Windows 7 computer crashed and needed to re-install windows.  As a result lost all music loading into Itunes (most of it not purchased through Itunes).  I need to know how I can transfer the music from my Ipod back to Itunes.  In the past when connecting the Ipod it automatically starts syncing with Itunes so if I connect it now I assume all the files on the Ipod will be deleted since they are not on Itunes now.  Please help me retrieve all my content and import it back to Itunes.

It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for this very occasion.  Use your backup copy to put everything back.
If for some reason you have failed to maintain a backup, not good, then you can transfer itunes purchases from your ipod: File>Devices>Transfer Purchases

I got a virus on my computer and it deleted all of my personal files is there a way to push my music back to itunes? i tried to sync but it only moved a small amount of my music.

The music sync is one way - computer to ipod.  The exception is itunes purchases.  Without syncing:  File>Transfer Purchases.

  • Help me get my music back to itunes from my Ipod!!

I recently experienced the pleasure of my hard drive crashing, which made me lose everything, including my music. I still have all of my music on my ipod and I just reinstalled itunes. Now, I know that if I try to sync, it will probably erase all of my songs on my ipod as well. Is there a way to sync my songs from ipod to itunes so I don't lose it all? I am aware that you can't change syncing preferences without your ipod connected. thanks for the help.

I use iPod agent, but if you do a google search, there are literally hundreds available, most are free, some are not

  • NOT ABLE TO IMPORT MUSIC AND VIDEO FILES FROM IPOD TO COMPUTER/ITUNES LIBRARY !!!!

Hi.... I am having IPod Nano 5th Generation. I can access music and video files (that are stored in Ipod memory) in Ipod. But when I connect the ipod to computer, I am not able to access/import these music and video files through computer. Also, I am not able to see any folders like DCIM, Contacts, etc... in the memory of IPod. Can any body help me out... ?

Search it up on google.com.  There's a lot of apps that will help you do this.  Check out this one:

I tried the import software (trial version) and it was fine but I didn't want to pay for software.  You can authorize up to 5 computers in the house to access your iTunes music and other iTunes purchases. Open iTunes, you can go under Store and select Authoize this computer.
    Good luck!

Shouldnt it recognize my iPod and allow me to just drag the songs back in? Help is much needed... thank you to all!

1). Connect your iPod to your new computer. If it is set to sync automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod.
Alternatively open iTunes first and go to Edit>Preferences>Devices and check the box "Disable automatic syncing for iPhones and iPods" and choose Ok. Then connect your iPod.
2). When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you continue to use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
3). Once you are connected and your iPod is safely in manual mode there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. iTunes will only give you the option to copy your iTunes Store purchases directly from an iPod to the computer, you'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
For everything else (music from CDs, other downloads etc) there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. I use Senuti but have a look at the web pages and documentation for the others too. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here (you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well):

iGadget Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
    Floola Mac & Windows

iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
TouchCopy Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
4). Keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync.
5). I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay: Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive

  • Restoring music file in iTunes from iPod classic

I have an iPod classic and had it connected to an HP laptop that was subsequently infected by a worm.  I still have all of the music, unaffected by the worm, on the iPod.  Can I easily upload files from my iPod to the empty itunes music library

Using 3rd party software there is a way (if you search on this forum you'll find it).
The point I was making about the back-up drive is that it's cheap (less than $100) to back up your entire iTunes library to an external drive just in case something like this happens.
A couple years ago I spent a lot of time importing my entire CD collection into iTunes (over 1400 CDs/24,000 songs) and my friend asked me how I was backing these up. I replied that I wasn't since I had all the original CDs. He was thinking about the lost time to restore rather than the lost songs and I realized he was right. I bought a bigger hard drive than was in my computer and now my entire iTunes library is backed up on that drive.
So, it's definitely worth it to buy an external drive for iTunes back up.

  • Help importing music files to iTunes?

All of my music is on my Windows Media Player, and I cannot simply drag and drop. and the files are not found in my music file either. So how can I get these file onto my iTunes?

    Dont Panic wrote:
All my music is on Windows Media Center, Not a streaming service.
Is there another place to find/get the music files from it. I only have itunes in my music folder.
Windows Media Center normally (always?) uses music managed by Windows Media Player. This is certainly the case with Media Center 2005 and Windows Media Player. (I have not got Vista, and while I have Windows 7, I have not yet installed it).
Therefore I suggest launching Windows Media Player to see all your music, and checking where WMP says the music files are located. Once you have established that, check to see if they are protected by Microsoft's ghastly "Plays for Sure" DRM, if it is then give up. If it is not, then tell iTunes to import the folder(s) that WMP says the music is in.
Note: iTunes for Windows can import MP3, WAV, AIFF, WMA (unprotected), and of course AAC, and Apple Lossless.
I have all my music in Apple Lossless and shared between iTunes, Windows Media Player, Windows Media Center 2005, and can also use it with Roku Soundbridge, Apple TV, and my iPhone. (Yes it is possible to get WMP and Media Center to play Apple Lossless.)

    - Unsync/delete all music and resync
To delete all music go to Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Music>Tap edit in upper right and then tap the minus sign by All Music
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:

  • Restoring music to my iTunes from my iPod?

I accidentally deleted my saved music file on my computer. However, I still have all of the songs in my iPod. Is it possible to transfer them back into my iTunes from my iPod?
    I hope so!

If you are using iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
For all other non purchased music (your own CDs etc) try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Enable your iPod for disk use.
    See: iPod Disk Use.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it can be messy.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music and playlists etc from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player.
There is also CopyPod. This does preserve ratings/playcounts etc if those are important to you but this program is not free. It also supports video transfer.

I'm having the exact same issue, but still haven't figured out what it is. I note that at the top of this thread it indicates that there are two "helpful" entries and one "solved" entry, but I can't find the solved one, so maybe someone will repost it here or kindly link to it.
There is one icon missing though.
As I read through the excellent tutorial at http://www.kenstone.net/fcphomepage/imovie_09stone.html I scroll down to the point where he talks about dragging music in from iTunes, which is what I'm trying to do. I can see, in his screen shot, the extra little icon that is a red oval and a white "1" in it. I don't get that icon when I am trying to drag my music into the video. I do get the green and white plus icon when I try to drag my music in. Also I DO get BOTH the red 1 and the green plus when I try dragging in a sound effect, which I can do with no problem. But why not the music?
I've been able to drag in music with no problem in other productions, so I can't figure out what is going on with this one. I'm sure there is a setting somewhere that got flipped, but I can't figure out where.
In desperation I also tried adding an extra title slide at the end of my video just to make sure there is more video time than music time in the production, but that didn't help at all.
    Any help guys?

    Hi
Due to some kind of copy protection in iTunes - I don't copy directly from this in iMovie
to my projects. (Most often the result of doing it in iMovie is a DVD without any sound)
    I do
    • In iTunes - collect needed audio into a new Playlist
    • then burn this out as an Audio-CD .aiff (NOT .mp3)
    • This CD I copy into a folder on my Mac (often containing other material that's connected to the project)
    • And then I drag and drop these .aiff files into my movie project in iMovie.
This works Greatly and even more so when I do my DVD.
