Help in Deciding on a Proper CMS on MAC OS (Joomla 1.5)

I was developing a bit heavy web site (250 pages, 300 images, 100 Video & Audio clips & 200+ internal External links) using iWeb for an NGO & found out iWeb is not capable of handling such type of systems + My web hoster is not supporting Mac Server Hosting. So I had to look for other options.
I did some research & from this Forum I got few other CMS References which will work on Mac OS (For Development).
I want to Decide on Joomla 1.5 for my site.
I want to choose a tool which provides easy & fast migration from my iweb site to the new.
Next is capability of handling a heavy site like mine in a Opens source CMS.
If anyone familiar with Joomla just let me know whether mac versions are available in all the needed versions of support S/w for Joomla. (PHP, My Sql & Joomla 1.5). Our organization is using Apple Mac computers & I want to download S/W for Mac OS.
My web hoster told me to Install LAMP.(Linux OS,Apache,My SQL & PHP) I wonder whether I need LAMP or MAMP (Mac OS,Apache,My SQL & PHP) for development in MAc OS.
Next is, I still couldn't find enough reading material on handling Images, Video clips & audio clips on Joomla 1.5 .
THANK YOU IN ADVANCE

Hi,
I am not using Mobile me. My Organization has contacts with an outside web hosting agent & they have already paid for domain name & hosting payments before I have taken up the project. Thats why I have all these restrictions to go by them. They gave me 3 options (Joomls, Dotnet Nuke & PHP Nuke) Out of which I found Joomla is the better option & doing research & learning on it.
Even I suggested to web hoster to do a trial run of hosting my Iweb site since all of them are html files. But he says it will run best only on mac servers & didn't want to try. ( I also read some article on the internet iweb will run better on mac servers)
Next is Iweb is only for personal small scale sites & is not capable of handling heavy sites unless you make more than one small different sites & combine them to work to look like one web site. I do not want to try this option since after creating the site (After my work is finished) there will not be IT or web person in this organisation to do regular updates & maintenance of the site. So it should be simple. So I have to look for other options.
Thanks for your Input.

Biggest screen out of the 4, not so great i3 processor (don't know if it makes much of a difference), plus risk of shipping from US and the product potentially having probems working in Australia in terms of compatabiliy, or for whatever reason..

If you want peace of mind I vote against imported C560. I am not sure C560 has worldwide warranty as first. It seems Idea and value AiO are not sold in Australia, so spare parts availability might be an issue in any case.
It looks nice, but overall engineering, cooling and (mechanical) parts quality is way behind ThinkCentre (M and E series).
If you are student, you can buy E73z at educational pricing directly from lenovo - the first option costs 863 or so then, not 899. If you will use it just for "normal" work, then i3 might be just fine (it is 100$ cheaper). Any M92z is also good choice (just CPUs are one generation old)
The M92z is now on sale on ebay for the next three days for $539.   That is a heck of a deal assuming it is not refurbished.  The only negative as Toruk mentioned is the processor is one generation old.  But I have an i5 processor in an M90z and I use it for the exact same things mentioned in the original post in this thread.  I don't have any issues.
The E73z is on sale on the Australian Lenovo website right now for $799.  It comes with everything probably neede including an i3 processor.

    Understated,
Sounds like you are in Canada.
Skip MSI; they have not been getting much of a reputation for solid, reliable, laptops for video editing.
Asus is selling rock-bottom priced laptops if you really need to cut cost to the bone.
My first choice recommendation would be to go with an ADK laptop. They are a audio/video editing centric company that has excellent laptops (Sager / Cleo platform) and excellent support for pretty decent prices on high-spec configurations. Unlike the HP/Dell laptops, their 15.6" 1980x1080 has expansion for multiple drives while retaining your optical bay.
HP and Dell are OK too, but more expensive for fully loaded configurations. Both companies provide a really nice base model, but then charge a lot for adding memory, drives, etc.
Dell provides really decent CPU choices, but you need to go to the "large business" section of their web site to see those CPU choices for the M4700.
If you go HP or Dell, get a newmodeus.com optical bay drive caddy to put a 2nd internal drive in your system. Buy the HP or Dell, then move the HD to the optical bay and buy a large SSD for OS, programs, and scratch/cache.

  • Need help in deciding the right SAP certification.

    Hello Expert,
Need some help in deciding upon an SAP certification. I am 4+ years experienced in SAP ABAP. Is there any value add in doing ABAP certification or should i go ahead and do something on the lines of Netweaver, MDM or CRM ???
    Please advise.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Josin George

    Hi Josin
CRM surely has a good future so you could spend time and efforts in learning more into that on the job.
As for certification, I recommend that you work for more 2 years and go for the Professional certification (ABAP) rather than "Associate". It will be a value addition for sure.
Please search these forums and also take others' opinions relating to CRM / ABAP certifications.
    Cheers!

  • I need help to decide which macbook pro is best for photo editing, editing movies and doing all the rest too like excel, word etc. 13"

I need help to decide which macbook pro is best for photo editing, editing movies and doing all the rest too like  microsoft office products ...excel, word etc.  I am new to the apple world and have liked the idea of the MAC Book Pro 13" but really dont know if this is good enough or if the computer will soon crash?
    13-inch: 2.6GHz
    with Retina display
    Specifications
    2.6GHz dual-core Intel Core i5
    Turbo Boost up to 3.1GHz
    8GB 1600MHz memory
    512GB PCIe-based flash storage1
    Intel Iris Graphics
    Built-in battery (9 hours)2

That's a fine machine and, with 8GB of RAM and 512GB flash storage should serve you well for light video/photo editing as well as for 'normal' usage. And it should last you for years to come.
Good luck in making your decision!!

  • Please help me deciding the storage for RAC !!

    Hello,
I am looking for some help to decide hardware in order to install 10g R2 RAC. I have two IBM P5 series boxes with IBM - D24 Storage (SCSI storage). I followed Oracle's Clusterware installation guide. It says you have to create Physical Volumes in "Concurrent Mode" which my system does not support. even if i import this Physical vol with LVs in Concurrent mode it gives error as this is not an concurrent PV. I found that HACMP is needed to do this. But same time i found that HACMP is not needed ... I am very much confused.
Can we take SAN and get rid of this kind of problem ? is there any software with SAN for concurrency ?...
If you have any suggestions highly appreciated.
    Thanks

    1. I think what Ashok was saying is that you don't need to put these disks under the volume manager at all--just address them as raw disk devices. I don't recall where the raw disk devices are found on AIX, but you shouldn't have to do any importing or creating of physical volumes in order to use ASM.
    2. I think all the storage arrays I've used have allowed access from more than one host. It's usually an access control list or something similar.

  • I need help on deciding a New gaming computer!

I need help on deciding which pc would be best for running valve games from bestbuy...I dont care whether a laptop or a pc i just want to play tf2 with smooth gameplay.  my price range is 1200 and less

For Team Fortress 2, the requirements to run it on Steam are:
    1.7 GHz Processor
    512 RAM
    DX8 Video card
    Recommended is
    3 GHz Processor
    1 Gig RAM
    DX9 Video Card
So, you could easily buy a desktop PC for around $400 to $500
    Here's some to look at:
    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?id=pcmprd107500050000&skuId=9999107600050000&type=product&ch...
    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?id=pcmprd107500050001&skuId=9999107600050001&type=product&ch...
    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9156478&type=product&id=1218038551741
I would recommend a desktop for gaming over a laptop because you'll have the ability to upgrade the video card down the road (all of these PC's have a PCI Express slot available) and more importantly, better heat dissipation (plus you can usually add additional case fans if necessary).  Plus, the cost is half that of a laptop.  But if you need it to be portable, then you'll have to look at the laptops, and if you do that, consider a laptop chiller to keep it cool.
Also, look at the AMD processor systems.  Most systems in the lower price range incorporate onboard graphic solutions.  Most games want either an ATI or Nvidia solution for 3D graphics, pixel shading, etc.  The Intel Graphics Solution won't run those games at all.  Also, I would avoid any mini-case desktop PCs (slimlines), because they tend to run hotter inside, some graphic cards will not fit inside them, and some have non-standard size components (such as the motherboard, power supply, etc.
IMHO - I would spend what is necessary to run the games you want at a comfortable margin and save the extra money for down the road upgrades or a replacement system when you encounter a game you really want to play that won't run on your system.
Hope the info helps.... Good luck with your purchase!

  • Help on deciding version for migration

    Hi,
Currently we are having a commissions applications developed in ADF 11.1.1.4. This application has 200+ pages and has around 150-200 users during peakload time.
The database consists of 10's of millions of records in few tables and performance is very critical for users to process commissions and promo's.
Now we are planning to migrate from ADF 11.1.1.4 to ADF 11.1.2.3.0 or ADF 11.1.2.2.0. Please let us know which one is better in terms of View layer performance and also suggest which version is more safer to migrate.
It would be great If you can provide references or pointers which will help me decide the version.
    Thanks,
    Naresh

The improvements from 11.1.1.7.0 are not available in 11.1.2.x. They use current techniques to improve performance. The R1 (11.1.1.x) version use a new skin which is smaller and more responsive java script. R2 uses jsf2.0 and facelets but are on the older skin.
Hard to tell which one will perform better, as this depends on your ui and how you built it.
Before you migrate I would advise to make a small test car in each version. Then you see first hand what task you have to do and which version suits your needs better.
My personal view is that you should stay with R1. This is because going to R2 it's not as easy as just open the project in a new Jdev version. There are many changes under the hood which might cause trouble and are not always obvious. The R1 versions are used b by fusion applications, do you can assume that new features from the upcoming 12c version will be back ported to R1. This has been the case for many features you now see in 11.1.1.7.0. R2 is not feature complete, meaning that it only comes with adf, no soa and other stuff. Right now out does not matter to you, but once you started migration to R2 and you get a requirement which best is done with soa, you are struck.

  • Please help in deciding what to buy :S

Hey everybody, i really need an answer for a dillema. I'm currently plannig to sell my desktop and get a macbook pro/air laptop, but the thing is, with money i have i will be able to get a 2009 macbook pro model 15, 2.66 core 2 duo, 500 GB, 4 GB RAM and dual nvidia graphic cards 9400 and 9600 at best. I currently also have an iPhone 4S and the iPad 4 (for less than a month), and i'm thinking selling it as well and get one of the newest 13 inch macbook airs, because as much as i love the iPad, i think the new air is light enough to be used in similiar manner, while adding functionality. I primarily use my iPad for reading, web surfing, games, e-mails, some minor document editing as the touch keyboard can't really be used for long typing etc. I need your help in deciding as i've never used any Apple laptops and therefore i don't know how fast each model is. I don't plan to use it as a gamer laptop, though i might play games like DOTA 2, nothing more intensive. So, the main question comes down to, should i sell my PC and get a 2009 mac pro and keep the iPad, or sell both PC and the iPad and get a new air, to fuse both worlds (also, is the new macbook air really fast enough to substitute my 3.0 GHz dual core, ati radeon hd 5670 old PC, disregarding gaming?). Thanks .

OK, those are three very different computers, all very capable.  The 17" is a very large, heavy machine so if one goal is to replace the iPad you would have a much less convenient machine to carry around.  While it is still portable, you may find yourself not wanting to carry the weight around and end up looking at another iPad.
The 15" is a very nice machine, lots of expansion options.  You can add more memory to take it to 16 GB if you need to do so.  The info says it has SSD so you have excellent speed, but may want more storage space than that one offers.  An external hard drive, which is hard to take with you, is a great option when at your home or someplace for a period of time.  And external hard drives are relatively inexpensive.  Take a look at those offered by OWC, I have three of their 2 TB Mercury Elite Pro drives.
Which brings us to the MBA...that is a very nice machine, Intel i7 processor is very good, enough ram to work well, and the 512 GB SSD gives a good amount of storage space.  And it is fast storage.  Some quote numbers of 5 to 7 times faster than a standard hard drive.  And, of course, you could use an external hard drive as with the MBP if the Air is one of the models with a USB or FireWire port...you might want to check on that.
So, my view is the choice is between the Air and the 15" MBP...one can be expanded, the other is light and easy to carry.  Both would meet your needs very well.  The Air would be a closer in size and weight replacement for the iPad.

Have also heard that the ipad3 revamped version is around along with the mini pad rumor..too much information - lot's of confusion pls help

    Lindsay,
Your iBookG4 is still a pretty awesome Mac. Like already said, it has the power to run Leopard, but it depends if you have an internal DVD drive.
Then I suppose you have to add up the cost of the OS, perhaps another 512MB RAM, iLife 08 and replacements for any favourite apps that you currently use (Leopard breaks a lot of stuff, but Intel breaks even more). Compare it to the cost of a new MacBook, which wil have all of that included and be 3-4x faster too.
It also depends on what you want to achieve with your iBook. My PMG4 still cuts it today, I still use it in preference to my new Mac Pro, It's about the same age as your iBook, and I'll only stop using it when it becomes "painfully" slow. My 1 year old son currently uses the Mac Pro (parts for a Mac Pro are easier to replace than those for a PMG4).
I think your choice is simple, if you can a cheap copy of Tiger, use that, it'll get your iPod Touch up and running. It came in DVD and 4 CD version (by request).
Leopard will work for you too but a lot of the best eye-candy requires quite a meaty graphics card and you may need a RAM upgrade and replacement software - OS9 Classic is not supported in Leopard.

  • Finally Upgrade Time- Help Me Decide..

    Hi Everyone..
I have been waiting patiently for my Upgrade Notice.  Yeah, finally time.  I currently have a LG env3. This will be my first droid phone, so wanting some feedback on which one to chose...  just some background I have a Galaxy Tab..
Sales Reps are pushing the 4G, Thunderbolt and Droid Charge, honestly, my town probably won't even get this ability until later this year and 3G is fine with me... I don't need to have access to the internet during the day, since I am at work  for 8 hours and cellphones must be turned off.
I see that there are many to chose, Costco is having a special on Fascinate right now, bundle package with desk dock, car dock and battery charger..  It looks alot like HTC Incredible...  but I can't find any smoking deals on that right now.
What other phones are comparable or should I consider ?  I don't know much about Motorolas...
I see battery life has been an issue for some phones, has that been resolved?  That will matter to me, as I want a phone there and ready when I need it.
For a first time droid user, savvy enough but still can learn new tricks, which one would you recommend... You have, you know the pros and cons... guide me in my decision...

    Yay, upgrade time!
mdram4x4 is right ... trying them out in a store will help you decide. I went into a Verizon store last week to look at the iPhone, and ended up narrowing it down to the Thunderbolt and the Incredible 2. Ha ha.
I chose the Inc 2 because my area won't have LTE for a while, I wanted global capabilities and the 4-inch screen is large enough for me. I'm very happy with my decision. The battery life is really good and it's plenty fast on 3G.
Good luck deciding. Come back and let us know what you got.

Help! LimeWire will not work on my Mac mini 10.4.11 now that i cleaned it out and had to get the new LimeWire. It keeps asking for Java 1.6 but I'm having no luck. :O( LimeWire was the reason I bought a Mac!

    Very weird day in Firefoxland
First on a Powerbook G4 running 10.4.11 I respond to an invitation to upgrade to Firefox 4 (like a lot of others). Long story short, I wind up losing the browser altogether -- including all bookmarks. Why? Because neither the Firefox homepage (or CNET downloads) makes it clear that 4.0 is for OS 10.5 only! Amazing!
Then I try to register to post a reply in a thread that crits Firefox for not making this System Requirements info upfront clear. But the Register page I’m taken to (https://support.mozilla.com/bs/users/register) is in SERBO-CROATIAN!!
Then I try to log into Chat a couple of times and when it’s not CLOSED its a long line waiting and THEN it closes.
WOW!! Are the wheels off the wagon here or what!?!

  • Need help connecting a windows network printer to my Mac (Xerox Phaser 3600) over a windows home network

Need help connecting a windows network printer to my Mac (Xerox Phaser 3600) over a windows home network.
My Mac runs lion and the windows desktop runs Windows XP
I have tried for a few hours or so to connect my mac to this printer over a home network.
For your information it does work when connected directly to my mac using a USB Cable.
If there is no soultion could I have help getting the drivers for a Dell All-in-One Photo 926

In most cases you can connect to the Windows shared printer from the Mac. But there is a dependence on the Mac driver being compatible. For many consumer inkjets, the vendor created driver cannot be used for this type of connection so you need to look at alternative drivers, such as Gutenprint or PrintFab. If you can tell us which brand and model of printer you have shared from Windows then we can answer your question with the preferred procedure on the Mac.

    Authorization and Deauthorization
Macs:  iTunes Store- About authorization and deauthorization.
Windows: How to Authorize or Deauthorize iTunes | PCWorld.
In iTunes you use the Authorize This Computer or De-authorize This Computer option under the Store menu in iTunes' menubar. For Windows use the ALT-S keys to access it. Or turn on Windows 7 and 8 iTunes menus: iTunes- Turning on iTunes menus in Windows 8 and 7.
More On De-authorizing Computers (contributed by user John Galt)
You can de-authorize individual computers, but only by using those computers. The only other option is to "de-authorize all" from your iTunes account.
      1. Open iTunes on a computer
      2. From the Store menu, select "View my Account..."
      3. Sign in with your Apple ID and password.
      4. Under "Computer Authorizations" select "De-authorize All".
      5. Authorize each computer you still have, as you may require.
You may only do this once per year.
After you "de-authorize all" your authorized computers, re-authorize each one as required.
If you have de-authorized all computers and need to do it again, but your year has not elapsed, then contact: Apple - Support - iTunes - Contact Us.
