Help in Linking within Xcelsior Present
Hello,
I am a new user to the Xcelsior program and I was wondering if someone would be kind enough to answer a few questions I have.
My company has a copy of Xcelsior Present and our objective is to create a dashboard that will display our metrics. Our goal is to have it all linked so that when lets say on your first screen you have a gauge displaying your Inventory total score. You could then be able to click on that gauge and the link would take you to another .xlf that would display a page with line charts displaying the data series that made up that overall Inventory score on the gauge.
I have created the two separate .xlf's with the gauges and the line graphs, but for the life of me I can't figure out a way to link them together in Xcelsior or PowerPoint or Word. One thing I did notice on this website is that when comparing the different versions of Xcelsior it showed you need Xcelsior Engage to create dashboard style projects. Is this my issue or is there a way I can complete this function in Present.
Any help or advice is greatly appreciated.
Ryan McGaughey
Hi Ryan,
As per your description,I understand that you want to have a gauge component and once you click on the gauge, you want another .SWF file to appear.
We do not have a Drill down option for Gauge component. However you can do a thing, use a selector and an "Image component or Slide show" component to display the other SWf file and apply dynamic visiblity on it.
So whenever you select the Selector, the other SWF file would display.
Please let me know if you have any queries.
Regards,
Amit Mathur.

Attachment/Link woes in Presenter
I'm having issues with attachments and links in Presenter. We
are publishing locally and not necessarily using the LMS to
distribute the courseware.
I have read the online help file's disclaimer and the
TechNote about attachments not working in locally-published
presentations. Is there ANY way around this? The "workaround" they
give in the technote/helpfile is not working for me (create a
hyperlink within PPT that links to the file on a network drive.) I
think I'm not fully understanding how "links" are supposed to work
within a Presenter file. Any help would be appreciated.
The two things I want to do are:
1) Have hyperlinks to our company's intranet, actually work
within Presenter slides. (These are
http:// links within the PPT slides.) They work
for me, but not for others. (Is it a Flash Player security
setting??)
2) Have users be able to launch a .PDF attachment from the
Attachments (paperclip) button. I really don't care where it's
stored -- with the Presenter file on the intranet? Somewhere on our
network? Wherever it works.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.Rob posted the answer a while back.... here it is:

Hey folks, I just wanted to report some findings after
looking at a couple of decks from other folks. I apologize in
advance for the long reply here, but there are points that I
believe warrant explaining.
First, a couple of items to get out of the way:
1. Using Presenter 6.0 build 432, using MS PowerPoint 2007
and I published locally.
2. Set up links to pdfs, html pages and MS Word 2007, with
the word file saved as a Word 2003 with ".doc" extension.
The hyperlink method within PowerPoint needs to be massaged
just a bit in order for the pathing to be rectified when the deck
is published. As far as I can tell, what I recently discovered is
that Presenter 6.0 likes to have
ALL associated files living within the
resources folder within the
data directory of published presentations. After several
rounds of tests, here's the process I used to acheive the results
and what I found:
I set up a project file and associated directories as
mentioned in my earlier post above. Bottom line: I have a project
folder that contains my ppt deck. Within that project folder, I
have another folder called
"localPublish". Lastly, inside the localPublish directory I
created one last folder called
"extAssets". The extAssets folder contains all my external
assests (pdfs, docs, html, etc). And for the sake of being clear,
I'm hoping that its obvious to everyone that the localPublish
folder will utlimately contain the published presentation. Think of
it this way: the extAssets directory is nested in the same location
of the published deck; this way, if you have to republish your ppt
file, the contents within the extAssets folder will NEVER be messed
with!
That said, to resolve the error in pointing to a bogus url, I
simply redirected a hyperlink in powerpoint:
../../extAssets/myWordDoc.doc
Once I republished the file and tested the playback, the word
document loaded and displayed properly (after waiting for Word to
launch of course!). Bottom line, it's working, and fortunately all
it took was a redirection of the link pointing to the asset I want
to display. Also, I tried publishing 2 ways: to my project folder
as well as the default My Adobe Presentations folder.
In both cases, each presentation had resolved links to
external files.
Again, I think that Presenter 6.0 is looking for assets
originating in the resources directory by default; by using the
"../../" syntax, we're telling Presenter to look 2 directories up
and out of the Resources folder. This redirection forces the
browser to hunt down the file outside of the Data folder and should
display the file(s) successfully.
Because I absolutely hate testing in an isolated manner (no
to mention sounding like a complete idiot if this doesn't work for
others!), what I'd like folks to do if possible: retype the
hyperlink as indicated above. Please test this yourselves and
report your findings here.
Again, I hope that helps!

Contextual help topic link/recognition
Is adobe Captivate contextual help topic link/recognition compatible?
At present we use PeopleSoft system and the eLearning application it is linked to is UPK (both Oracle based). I have recommended to change UPK to Adobe captivate. But first need this issue addressed:
Each page in the PeopleSoft application includes a Help icon that, when clicked, opens a new browser window displaying help topics related to that page.
Universal Linking enables the hosted PeopleBooks system to search through one or more PeopleSoft product lines and return context sensitive help. This functionality makes it possible to retrieve help from PeopleTools and one or more applications(this is UPK), all using the same link you configure in the web profile of your application.
So basically I need to know if Captivate is capable of this linkage. All my files (UPK) are presently sitting on IIS webserver 7 within a web template.
Hope this helps.

I am running on an iMac OS X 10.6.3 using Firefox 3.6.3 as my default browser and I use Postbox 1.1.5 as my email client. Anytime I click on a link within an email message two instances of Firefox open, one with my home page and one with the site the link was meant for. This happens only when Firefox is not already open. If Firefox is running and a link is clicked on it opens normally within the open instance of Firefox. I have contacted Postbox and am currently awaiting a response to see if they have any suggestions. While this is not a serious issue it is a bit annoying. I have Firefox set to open new links in tabs not new instances of windows, so it shouldn't be that. Any help in getting this to stop would be greatly appreciated.
== This happened ==
Every time Firefox opened
== Not sure, it's been going on for quite awhile. That is a bug on Mac.
See https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=531552 - Firefox 3.6b opens two windows when opening external links
''(please do not comment in bug reports to avoid bug spam for the devs)'' -
When I enter a new URL or select a bookmark, Firefox loads the page promptly. When I click on a link within that page to go to another page, the Firefox tab green spinner often just spins and spins. It either takes a very long time to load (2 or more minutes), or never finishes loading. It's usually a greater problem when I "Open a link in a new tab". I can usually make the new page appear by reloading, either clicking the red X and the circular arrow, or Ctrl-F5, etc.
Try the Firefox SafeMode to see how it works there. <br />
''A troubleshooting mode, which disables most Add-ons.'' <br />
''(If you're not using it, switch to the Default Theme.)''
* You can open the Firefox 4/5/6/7 SafeMode by holding the '''Shft''' key when you use the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
* Or use the Help menu item, click on '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' while Firefox is running. <br />
''Don't select anything right now, just use "Continue in SafeMode."''
''To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before using the Firefox shortcut (without the Shft key) to open it again.''
If it is good in the Firefox SafeMode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. <br />

I'm using FF 34.0.5 (I like it). I use to be able to right click on a link, within an e-mail, and the link would open in a new tab. Now when I click on the link it opens in the same tab replacing my e-mail.
Example - a friend sends me an e-mail containing a link to a web site he thinks I'd like. I click on the link and go to the web site and then go back to the e-mail tab and reply to him. Now, when clicking that link, my e-mail disappears and is replaced by the new site.
How can I fix this? When this happened once before I was told to change the 'value' for a specific 'preference name' through the about:config page.
Can anyone help jog my memory?
Thanks! Is this about clicking a link in an external program?
You can check this pref on the about:config page for external links.
* browser.link.open_newwindow.override.external (-1)
If this pref has the default value -1 then browser.link.open_newwindow is used.
* http://kb.mozillazine.org/browser.link.open_newwindow
*1: current tab; 2:new window; 3:new tab;
You can open the <b>about:config</b> page via the location/address bar.
You can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.

I'm working on a portal in Sharepoint 2007. It appears that I can only have one set of "Links" on a page, so I am grouping my related links into folders. I'm having two issues with this...
#1. I need to change the order of the links within a folder. When I try to Change Order under the Actions menu, I only get the main list of links, not those within the folder. How can I reorder links within a folder?
#2. When I click a Links folder, all links go away, except for the links within that folder. Is there any way to make the Links list work in a Tree view?
Sorry for the newbie questions, but I've not worked much in Sharepoint and I had this project dropped on me. :(Hi,
For Question #1,
refer this link.
Hope it helps!

Why can't I use links within my email messages? When a link is clicked, nothing happens--it doesn't go to that specific website.
HI Ana ...
I had FB working again two days ago, and yesterday in mid-serve Safari just "couldn't find the server" once more...
That's a different issue...
First, if you can just use English, open System Preferences > Language & Text then select the Language tab. Drag English to the top of the list then restart your Mac.
Now for the server issue. Try using Open DNS. That shold help the "couldn't find the server" issue...
Open System Preferences / Preferences then select the Network tab. Click the Advanced tab then click the DNS tab.
Click +
Enter these numbers exactly as you see them here.
208.67.222.222
Click +
208.67.220.220
Then click OK.
Try accessing Facebook on Safari now. -
Correct linking within site problem
Hello everyone, I hope you will be able to help me or point
me in the right direction:
On the webhosting server that I am using (can't change it, my
company chose ...), there is an extremely strange linking structure
(or maybe it just seems strange to me?).
When you log-in into your account to upload your site, the
login takes you to the server/domain folder, where you simply
upload your site. Naturally, all ofther files within the "site" are
linked by /otherfile.html, because they are in the same folder.
However, the server that the hosting company is using requires the
link to be of the format /domainfolder/otherfile.html.
To illustrate it with code:
a) the way Dreamweaver sets up a link within a Dreamweaver
site relative to the index.html page:
<frame src="/IndexTop.htm" name="mainFrame"
title="mainFrame">
<frame src="/IndexBottom.htm" name="bottomFrame"
scrolling="auto" noresize>
b) the way I have to adjust the code for it to work on the
server
<frame src="/domainfolder/IndexTop.htm" name="mainFrame"
title="mainFrame">
<frame src="/domainfolder/IndexBottom.htm"
name="bottomFrame" scrolling="auto" noresize>
This means that I would have to go through every single link
that I creat in my site in wordpad after I am done in dreamweaver
and update those links.
Therefore, my question is - is there a way to automatically
add that /domainfolder/ part to every link? I was thinking that
specifying the Host directory as domainfoler would solve the
problem, but then wouldn't Dreamweaver:
1. put the index file into that directory
2. create a domainfolder directory in the host directory,
esentially causing a folder structure of the format
server/domainfolder/domainfolder (because when you log in your
files get automatically placed in your domainfolder on the server)?
Thank you very much for any help that you can offer, I
sincerely appreciate it.You'd be ever so much better off without frames. But
<sigh> it's up to you.
Frames are rarely the optimal choice for your layout because
they bring SO
MANY problems into your life, and into the lives of your
visitors.
Anyhow - which DW are you using?
And - can you point me to any page on your site?

Creating links within a photo gallery
I created a few albums and I want to know how to create links for specific photos. For example, I would like to link from one of the photos in gallery view to a larger version of that photo. I created another page with the larger photo but I cant create a "click here" link within the description. The inspector allows me to chose create hypertext link after highlighting text but it doesnt work. Also, if I create a link outside of the description the link appears on every page in that gallery. I also noticed that the link I created on the main gallery page appears on every page. Further, I would like the link to open in a new window.
Thanks for the help.
AAfter I published the site the link I created in the photo description works in the album view but not when you're viewing the photo itself.

Email text not displaying normally / links within email not functioning
All of a sudden, emails are not displaying normally; symbols and numbers are interspersed within words of emails, no graphics, no functioning links within emails on my BlackBerry Curve 8530. Verizon Wireless suggested I upgrade to a different phone. That's helpful.
Have you sent HTML emails to GMAIL, HOTMAIL and YAHOO accounts successfully before? Are those services capable of handling HTML formatted email? Not all email clients can handle that type of email.

I cant seem to find a tid available for a fix so have turned to the forum for answers. Does anyone have a solution to this problem or having the same issue I am.
Please help,
DugganHi,

1.
GW 8.0.1HP1 (GW Setting for html browser: default)
IE6
- Open links work fine but all in several windows with each want the proxy auth data
2.
GW 8.0.1HP1 (GW Setting for html browser: Internet Explorer)
IE6
- Open links work fine but all in several windows with each want the proxy auth data
3.
GW 8.0.1HP1 (GW Setting for html browser: Internet Explorer)
IE8 (After OS Update)
- Open links work fine but all in several windows and the proxy auth data were needed only once
4.
GW 8.0.1HP1 (GW Setting for html browser: Standard Browser)
IE8 (After OS Update)
- Open links work only if IE8 already were opened. After first site was sucessfully opend, all other links will be opened in tabs (like it should be).
5.
GW 8.0.1HP1 (GW Setting for html browser: Mozilla/Firefox)
FF 3.6.2
- If i view a html mail as text i have a strange behaviour: it opens 2 windows one with the link i clicked on and one with the browser default page (google in my case). For all following links i click, it opened a new window with the default page....
- If i view it as a html mail, it opens correctly but all in several windows. Only one time proxy auth is required
6.
GW 8.0.1HP1 (GW Setting for html browser: Standard Browser)
FF 3.6.2
- Doesn't matter if i view mails as text or html, always open the first window and all following links in new tabs. Like it should be...
I hope this will help.
But although i have the "problem" with newsletter or such stuff with external elements (e.g. images) from different servers/domains. For each different domain, our customer have to fill in his proxy auth data. Someone have the same experience and a solution for this? (Except a proxy without Authentication :P)

Can't see the ESS Additional Personal Data link within Personal Information
Hi All,
For some reasons, I can not see the Additional Personal Data link within the ESS Personal Information iView. I have checked the Homepage framework and the existence of the iView in the PCD and everything appears to be fine.
Do I need to assign any additional infotype to my id or give myself specific authorisations to see this link?
I would really appreciate if you could provide an answer to my query.
Thanks,
VibhuHi,
I think mostly you have maintained the data in PA30 Transaction and had data in Info type 0105.
After this try to check with your EA-HR patch and SAP HR patch in the services. If both are not maintained at the same patch levels such type of problems will occur.

From a PDF in a browser window - open links within in that PDF in a new window
BACKGROUND SCENARIO:
Users view a PDF document within their browser window (default behavior at my organization). Key point is, the PDF isn't being viewed in an Acrobat Reader window, it's being viewed within the browser window.
Within that PDF, are many links to intranet pages. And incidentally, this PDF happens to be a document that is updated frequently (More on this caveat in a moment)
EDIT: The end users are end users, smart people, but not necessarily super-sophisticated computer users.
MY QUESTION:
When a user clicks a link within the PDF, I want the new page to open in a new window, NOT in the same window that the PDF was being viewed in.
I've done a fair amount of homework: The prevailing answer is to use Acrobat Pro's "LINK" feature to turn the hyperlink into a javascript command that opens the link in a new window, and to do this (a) MANUALLY, (b) ONE LINK AT A TIME, and (c) Repeat steps (a) and (b) EACH TIME the document gets updated. (Back track now to my earlier caveat.. this is a frequently changing document with lots of links... Doing manually and repeating the whole process each time the document is updated is a lot of work.)
I believe there are some add-on products that make this easier too.
So my question is... Other than add-ons, Is there another way? a better way? a more efficient way? Or is there another way, on the way?
SOMEWHAT RELATED QUESTION: (EDIT)
Another answer that would more or less satisfy me: is there a way either from the calling HTML page, or from within the PDF document itself, to force the PDF to open within its own Acrobat Reader window, rather than within the browser window? That would mostly dodge the issue, by opening linked pages in the browser anyway.
A little extra background information: The document also uses password protection (a management requirement), which is why opening the links in the same window is such a pain. Back-keying back to the document after viewing the link requires re-typing the document password, a noted pain. I'd accept a fix to that particular problem too, but I don't think there is one. Either way, the new-window question is one I'd like to solve. (FYI, I asked the password retype question separately over in the security forum, here: http://forums.adobe.com/message/5055162#5055162).You can't update the destination for a link using JavaScript, because there's no way to read the link's current action. While there is a setAction() function to create a new action on an existing link, there's no "getAction" function.
In terms of how a PDF file opens, nothing in the document or in the HTTP headers can influence whether the file is opened in the browser or on the desktop - that's a user preference. What you can do with scripting on the server is send HTTP content-disposition headers that define the PDF file as something the user should download and save, rather than something the browser should try to open.
