Help in moving my music

I am no longer using my old lap top and purchased a new Mac. How do I get all my music on my new Mac? When I plug my Ipod classic into my new Mac, it doesn't bring up all my music, just a few albums that i had downloaded previously when I first got the new Mac book Pro.

You will have to copy the tracks currently in your new MBP to a separate folder.
Trash the iTunes folder on your new MBP.
Take the entire iTunes folder from your old Mac and place it in your Music folder.
Then import the tracks that you already had on your new MBP into iTunes.
Sync your iPod.
Ciao.

  • Please help, I moved my music from library 2my ipod, and it's not there...

I've uploaded my music onto my library, which including converting music to a compatible format, and moved it to my ipod in iTunes. In the list everything is there. However, once I disconnect my ipod and switch it on, only 4-5 songs appear. Yet I've moved about 80 songs onto it.
Can someone help me? I have so much music that I want to put on my 30gig ipod, but if I can't get it to work, I'm considering to return it. (Which is sad cause it was a 21st Bday pressie.)
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thankyou.

If you don't want a bunch of sub-folders all you need to do is create a new Compilation and call it - mp3's or what ever - select all the tunes that you want in that Compilation from the main iTunes window - CMD-I and Compilation =Yes. All those tune will now be in on folder located in the Compilations folder of iTunes. For this to work you also need to select the 'keep' option.

  • I need help regarding moving my music from pc to PalmPre+ and my amazon account. . .

Recently I had to have my Palm Pre+ replaced w/warranty. I'd backed up my stuff onto my pc. When I tried to drag & drop my music to my replacement palm, instead of it saying, 'copy to music', like it usually says, it had a circle with a line through it on some of the songs. On other songs, it seemed like the files were dragging & dropping, but when I unsynced my palm, the music wasn't on my palm. I know I was doing it correctly cuz I've done it many times before, w/out any problems. Finally, after about an hour of trying to get the music files onto my phone w/no success, I gave up.
The next day, I remembered that I'd also saved my ringtones in a separate folder. Some of the ringtones had been some of my songs, set as ringtones. I wondered if I'd be able to drag & drop the music files from that file onto my Palm, so I tried it. Oddly enough, when I checked to see if they'd made it onto my Palm, they had! The only problem is, I'd only used about 13 of my 40 or so songs as ringtones, and those are the only ones I've been able to move to my Palm.
I'm thinking it may have something to do w/the fact that, since changing to this new Palm, I'm also unable to download anymore music. I keep getting a message that there's no account & creditcard associated w/my my phone. The last time that happened, I just removed the creditcard account and readded it and it was fine. That was w/the old Palm though. This time, it's not letting me do it and I have no clue why. I sure hope someone can help me w/these problems. Thanks,  Renee

Are you upgrading from an existing iPhone? Back up old phone, then restore new phone with the cable. I had to do this a number of time to get all my purchases across.

  • Help needed moving iPod music from home to work PC

I have a shuffle that I have had for some time, but never used. I want to fill it up on my home PC then plug it in to my work PC and listen to the music. I heard this isn't possible and that I have to load software on my work PC (which is not allowed) in order to listed to the iPod AND that once I open the iPod on my work PC, where the music was NOT originally from, the iPod will be reset and I will lose all of my music (however it will remain on the computer I originally downloaded from).
    Is this true?
If not, after I load up my iPod shuffle at home, how do I then play that music from my work PC?
    Thank you!
    Shuffle

Am I correct that you want to listen to the songs you have on the shuffle through your work computer's speakers?
(An alternative would be to use headphones, which won't work in some offices, or a dock/external speakers thing.)
One way, if your computers have an audio in jack, would be to connect the shuffle there, from its headphone jack. That would take a male-male cable, mini plug on the shuffle's end and probably mini plug on the computer's end.
In red67's case, it sounds like an option might be to put copies of the music files into the iTunes Library on work computer. To do that, you'll need to copy the files onto CD or flash drive (including the shuffle, with disk use enabled and appropriately sized). If the songs were purchased from iTMS, you'll have to authorize the computer on first use. Then, play the songs with iTunes and use the shuffle for something else.
In beckylv775's, it sounds like your IT folks have your system locked up a bit tighter, but if your computer has an audio in jack, that should still work.
I haven't tried any of these, but good luck.

  • Moving ITunes Music to New Hard Drive

Hi! I would like to free up space on my internal hard drive by purchasing an external one this weekend and moving the music files to this drive. I read this article: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301748 and I still have just one more question. I am not sure if others ended up having a library that looks like this, but in addition to the organized folders (by artist) in the ITunes folder, in C:\Documents and Settings\Dana Christine\My Documents\My Music there are about 100 MP3 files (not organized, just sitting there) which are a part of my library. How can I go about getting these files moved over as well? Will the process described in the link I attached take care of moving these files also? No tutorials on moving files that I have seen has covered such an issue. I really appreciate your help.

If these MP3 files are in the iTunes library (you can play them in iTunes), they will get copied when you Consolidate library.

  • HT1329 I completed all the steps up until actually moving my music, because my iPod won't show up in finder? I've tried all the basic things (changing ports...etc.) but it still isn't showing up?

I have an older Ipod touch, but an Ipod touch nontheless. I'm also using the cable that came with an iphone but i'm told that makes no difference. Finally, i'm moving my music from PC to mac, but no longer have my music on the PC, seeing as to how I followed all the above steps, and now only have my music on my ipod. Idk why this is happening, but it's driving me crazy, so if someone could kindly help?

I finally managed to find my way round this problem by downgrading to iTunes 10.7 instead of iTunes 11 which seemed to be the main problem.
I deleted my iTunes 11 app, then downloaded again iTunes 10.7 from the apple previous downloads website, then used Pacifist to install it. No problems whatsoever! My iPod is now visible - again - and my whole music library is there.
So now I won't upgrade iTunes anymore!

  • I moved My Music from C drive to E drive and then all my problems started

My C drive was very full, so I moved My Music to E drive which had lots of spare capacity.
Unfortunately after the move itunes opened but my library was empty. I discovered from the itunes help that I should not move the library file. I reversed the move by moving back My Music to C drive and recovered my library by following the instructions in this link http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93732.
My library is now back in itunes, but when I connect my iPod itunes freezes (and in windows task manager 'itunes is not responding') and my iPod says do not disconnect.
    I am now stuck.
All I wanted to do was move ‘my music’ to a part of my hard drive with space, I have failed to do that and have now I have no iPod connection and a malfunctioning itunes. Can anyone help me out of this mess please?
    dell   Windows XP

Here are typical layouts for the iTunes folders:
Ideally your library would be in the layout on the right and stored either at <User's Music>\iTunes or the top level of a different drive, e.g. D:\iTunes, with all content inside the iTunes Media folder.
iTunes usually doesn't cope well if you move files around by hand so getting from where you are now to where you want to be might take a few steps. How easy it is also depends on whether you can afford to let iTunes copy every song you have into the correct location before deleting the originals. If not I can offer a script that can move files around instead of copying them. The first thing to establish is the current locations of your library files and your media folder. The script iTunesInfo can help reveal this if you're not sure.
I have a post on making a split library portable that describes how to restructure your library. If you let me know what things are where I can suggest a set of steps that will get your library set up right.

  • Help with transfer of music after upgrade to Win 7

I upgraded to Win 7 from Vista, which caused the loss of all my current files etc. I had a current backup (on a sep external HD as well as online) of my itunes before I did this, BUT I failed to consolidate the itunes.
Now I have nothing in my itunes but I have lots of folders under "my music" with subfolders including itunes again, itunes music, itunes media, previous itune libraries, etc, etc.
I'm really unclear, after reading several articles about recreating my library and moving my music and so on. Do I need to consolidate now? Would this help put everything where it is suppose to be?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

In Windows 7 all the files in iTunes are now in separate folders in iTunes Media so you get mobile apps, music, movies, podcasts etc. I don't know how Vista files were structured but on XP you found movies and podcasts as folders within the music folder.
You can also have folders 'duplicated' in that they can also be visible within another folder. I unknowingly had my iTunes folder stored in both My Music and My Pictures.
Rather than consolidate from the Edit menu choose preferences, go to the Advanced tab. In the top box you will see the location of your files (in my case it is Music\iTunes\iTunes Media), tick 'Keep iTunes Media Folder Organised' and 'Copy files to iTunes Media when adding to library' which should ensure future files go to the right place (and I believe sorts the existing files out.)

  • After moving my music to a new computer, some of it is not able to be authorized

I've moved my music to my wife's computer (a Mac) under my own login, but now I've lost approximately 130 songs.  I can see them, but when I try to play them or put them on my iPhone the computer gives me a message that says I have to authorize that song on this computer.  When I try to authorize the computer, it tells me that the computer is already one of my authorized computers, but still doesn't give me permission to play my own music.  This is MY music - stuff I've purchased from the itunes store, but now I'm not able to play it - and $130 or more worth of music is alot to lose.  Please help!

On the new computer launch iTunes.
From the iTunes menu bar (top of your screen) click Store > Authorize This Computer
    Now try syncing your iPod.

  • Another "moved itunes music" question

    Hi;
I recently moved my music from my itunes and other folders onto an external drive.
I had some stuff in the detault itunes folder and other stuff in a folder c:\itunes.
I moved everything OK (using windows explorer), and all music can be played in itunes.
However my playlists are now all messed up. I can't play any of my items in any of my playlists, it says it cannot find the track and do I want to search for it. This is rather annoying as I have 35 playlists each with probably over 300 tracks on. Surely I don't have to go in each one and individually search for each track??
Any help would be most appreicated.
    Cheers

    Hi Polydorus;
    Thanks for the reply.
I found the .xml file and have edited but to no avail. Actually it has no effect whatsoever.
I can't beleive this situation! I use Itunes because I have an iPhone which I love, I use it all the time for my music. Now, just because I moved my folder onto another drive I've lost two years worth of playlists - this is totally crazy, why does the application do this?????
I have tried each night to try and motivate myself to re-create the playlists but it is going to take me for ever.
I've even moved all the tunes back (500GB) but they still don't play from the playlist, I can play them OK from the Music library but not from my playlist - which I need for iPhone AAAarrrrrgggh!
This is about as bad as Microsoft, maybe I should just wait until MS bring out an iPhone euivalent and then use Windows Media player.
    Thanks again for the help.
    Ciao

  • Itunes progress bar is not moving and music won't play. I also have no audio from my laptop at all. Any ideas? I am running windows 8.

Have had no previous problems with iTunes but for past two weeks my I tunes progress bar is not moving and music won't play.
I also have no audio from my laptop at all. Any ideas? I am running windows 8.

I'm having the same incredibly frustrating problem. I have 50-60 GBs of music and now literally ALL OF A SUDDEN most of my mp3s won't play in iTunes. Of the songs that do play, many of them sound garbled (almost as if you were listening to them underwater). As others have noted, the songs do in fact play properly in other media players (VLC, MPC, WMP, etc).
I feel like I've tried just about everything but I can't seem to fix the problem. Nor have I been able to find any viable solutions after hours of scouring the internet. Here is a list of the steps I've taken so far, in chronological order:
    1. Closed/re-opened iTunes
    2. Re-booted computer
    3. Uninstalled/re-installed iTunes
    4. Tried deleting songs from iTunes library and then re-adding them, but after dropping files into the library they don't show up at all, iTunes refuses to import them
    5. Downgraded from iTunes 8 to iTunes 7
None of these things have helped at all and I am amazed that even after completely uninstalling iTunes 8 and then installing version 7 I'm still experiencing the same problem. And, on top of things, I've found that iTunes 7 is not recognizing the ID3 tags for many of the songs it does import.
My apologies for the length of this post. I just want to be specific and provide as much info as I can so that maybe we can find a solution to this thing.
So, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
