Help indexer ignors exactmatch.plist what can I do?
I am having two problems:
1. The terms in my exact match plist do not appear in my help index file after using help indexer (file viewed in Text Wrangler). All of the achors are listed.
2. Although my help book appears correctly in the help viewer, only my unique search terms, such as isaac or benny, are found and displyed after a search for help terms. Common terms, such as browse or paste which appear in other help books, are found and displyed for those apps, but not for mine.
I am using Xcode 4.2 but am targeting 10.6
Suggestions please.
My last post did not contain enough background. I am completing an app "XSAVER" with the addition of the user help book accessed through the help menu. Everything works fine - the XSAVER help book appears properly the Apple HelpViewer - except for two problems with the Spotlight search in the viewer window.
My help book consists of the required folders and html, css, exact match plist and .helpindex files as listed in the Apple Help PG, Bill Cheesemen's book on Vermont Recipies, and the on-line book More Cocoa Programming. The book is indexed using the X-code 4.2 Help Indexer tool.
Problem 1. Although all of the terms and anchors in the html files are listed in the help index file (viewed in Text Wrangler), none of the terms in the ExactMatch.plist appear there.
Problem 2. I tested Spotlight search in the HelpViewer window against the terms that do appear in the .helpindex file. Common terms - such as copy, paste, cut - produce (0) hits for XSAVER but do produce multiple hits for Apple's and third party apps. On the other hand, terms that are unique to the XSAVER .helpindex file - such as pasty, benny, isaac - do produce hits for XSAVER and (0) hits for Apple's and other apps.
Has anyone experienced and solved these problems?

If it then works on your computer's iTunes but not your phone/iPad then try logging out of your account on the phone/iPad by tapping on your id in Settings > Store (Settings > iTunes & App Stores on iOS 6) and then log back in and see if that 'refreshes' the account on it -

Please help!!!! What can cause this?
I have a very weird problem with my Mac Pro. My computer will run fine for a while but then it will start acting strange. The mouse will start to move sluggishly and not click things, but only for a few seconds, then it will click and move, then it won't and so on. It doesn't stop there. After some more time, my mouse will stop highlighting. What I mean by that is that when I click on a menu bar option and then drag the mouse over the new options that appear, the mouse won't highlight the options in blue like it's supposed to, they just stay grey. Also, when I drag the mouse over the dock, it doesn't show the names of the apps above the icon. Also, when I drag the mouse over a link in safari, they link won't highlight. It's not the mouse, I have tried three other mice.
FYI, I've opened up the computer and given it a good cleaning. I have SMC Fan Control and it keeps the computer very cool, so it's not overheating. If you need to know anything else, please ask. Thank you.

While machine is off, then check your mouse batteries with battery tester.
If you have Bluetooth Keyboard, remove it's batteries as well, and test them.
One should always use a battery tester for these devices, because they take multiple batteries.
ALL it takes is one to go lower in voltage and you don't know which one.
It ends up recycled back in the group of rechargeable's and causing problems later.
So if you have a stack of fresh recharged batteries, of course use them in this test.
We are going for un-tested, un-proven steps here, because no-one else seems to have
had this happen other than you & I.
Before you replace the cover on the mouse, scrub spin the batteries in place by running thumb
over them causing them to spin.
Also take note, some rechargeable batteries by brand are constructed with slight raised outer barrel that interferes with mouse positive point contact, where it just will not connect proper.
Replace Cover.
Restart Machine.
Go first to Blue Tooth devices and make sure mouse on line.
Or do this step in reverse, starting machine, then insert batteries. It's your call.
Take an existing Text Edit document, and see if can be edited, and saved.
Try to keep notes on New document the moves, and steps you made, and what effects were noted.
These observations need to be very precise, because others more than likely may run into the same.

For the second time I tried upgrading my iPhone 5S to the latest software, the iOS 8.1.3, but as I expected, it failed. The process stops and my phone gets stuck on the same "software upgrade screen" without proceeding. The first time this happened I had to contact the iDoctor/Apple Support to get some help. However I was told there was nothing they could do, so, as my phone was still in warranty, they gave me a new one. I tried reseting,'backuping', restoring and syncing, but none of that helped. BrunaIf this is the second iPhone that does that, visit an Authorized Apple Service Provider or Apple Store instead of contacting Apple Support over the phone. They can update the phone for you, just to make sure that your backup data or iTunes on your computer has nothing to do with that.

Go to Settings>Safari>Clear History, Cookies and Cache. Restart the iPad. Hold down on the sleep button until the red slider appears - slide to the right to shut off. To power up again, hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button. Try Safari again.
You can reset your network settings. Go to Settings>General>reset Network Settings. Restart the iPad as described above, go to Settings>WiFi>select Your Network Name and then enter your password and see if you can connect to the internet.
You can also close open apps. Double tap the home button and your recent apps appear in the task bar. Tap and hold down on one of the app icons until they all begin to wiggle. Then tap the minus signs in the left corner of all of the apps to close them. Tap the screen outside of the task bar. Restart the iPad like I described above.
You can also reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons - try Safari again. -
When I plug in my external LaCie drive I get an error message "the disc you inserted was not readable by this computer."
The only options offered are "ignore" or "eject"
Disk Utility sees the disc but does not give a repair option.
What can I do?The good thing about mac-centric resellers such as OWC, is they have people on staff that can answer questions without you buying things first. They also have how-to information, and instructions are included in many of their products. I saw a link to watch a DIY video in one of their pages; an example of a RAID (with its own power supply) is shown on their drives page. Also a few in there, with no power supplies, for less money.

Some ideas on the RAID backup methods appear in google search, some of the pages are ideas and concepts; and the better ones also warn about using RAID for the only backup plan.
Oh, OWC has live chat. Haven't tried it, nor have I bought anything from them. I have what appears to be two products from them, but have not used either. One is in a box as-new, but has only USB2.0 ports & my Macs needed FW400/800. It has been said their RAM is a good way to upgrade, too. But I can't confirm!
A 'RAID-ready' unit for backup may be more versatile for just that, but I have not checked into these details. I use single HDDs in powered enclosures, and usually manually make backup clones to FW drives, of bootable OS X systems. Some of the OWC raid-ready use eSATA ports so that may not be viable for a computer without them.
The unused in-box external drive I have is like the base model in the link above. However mine is USB2.0 (maybe) and won't boot my older Macs due to hardware variance; and my preference would be for FireWire options, these models do offer that. But the one I have does not. Dual 500GB HDDs, and they could be used in tandem as a RAID. That would be a choice set up in software. I'm not sure and not interested enough to read up just now.
My backup method is not automatic, or a moving backup plan, if I don't get a move-on and make full system clones. I do make copies of photos and documents the manual way, to USB external drives; and occasionally backup to DVD or CD media. And USB flash, that helps to move files between computers without need to use file sharing via wi-fi. {Like Why fly? Walking is better exercise unless one is a bird. Squawk!}

Depending on the ports in your Mac, you may be able to use other cables to attach between a backup or externally enclosed hard disk drive with multiple partition and bootable clone in one of them. Not sure about the Thunderbolt, and where that is the main port, adapters are required to access other devices, as allowed.
Anyway, I am going on and on, yet not really saying anything.
My ideas would not be all that interesting to follow as a backup
plan when matching available newer hardware to task, but you
can get some into better ideas if you are not in a rush. Get a
good setup and then look into more an betterer stuff.

My older iMac running Mavericks 10.9.4 shuts down when it connects to the internet. Resetting the SMC doesn't help. What can I do?
1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off merely by the seeming complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can read it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of the script have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message.
Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
4. Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
5. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
7. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
[Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report the results. No harm will be done.
12. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start Time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
14. This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

Try to reset it. just press hold the on/off botton (ignore the red slider) just hold it then the ipad is automatically reset. dont worry about your file, there nothing happen to it. Godbless.

Hold down on the sleep button and the home button at the same time for about 10 seconds until the Apple logo appears on the screen. Ignore the red slider. When the logo appears let go of the buttons.
