HELP! Input source not registering built-in mic?

Hi all -
I'm trying to record with the mac's built-in mic, but the only input sources I'm offered are (built-in input)!
How do I get Garageband to recognize my built-in mic? I went to System Preferences and then to Sound and clicked on Internal Mic for the input source.
HELP!
M.

it depends on the CPU in your computer. assuming intel:

  • [SOLVED] ALSA input source not not saving on reboot

    Just in case anyone else has a similar issue....
    An annoying recent development was the ALSA input source not being restored on rebooting. In particular in my case the internal digital microphone on my Dell XPS m1330.
    The audio chip is Intel-HDA, reported as "STAC9228" by alsamixer. The primary 'sound device' is alsamixer is listed as PulseAudio, with Intel HDA being an additional device (F6). Under the F4 capture tab, there are 3 input source options, the first kept on resetting to 'Mic' instead of 'Internal Mic 1'. Mic is the front analog mic jack, and as a result there was no Skype microphone functionality each reboot. Easy enough to use alsamixer to reset to the correct input when required of course, but annoying nonetheless.
    I tried deleting asound.conf, ensuring alsa was (and wasn't) running as a daemon and using alsactl store, all to no avail. I already have !snd_pcm_oss and !snd-pcm-oss in my rc.conf, and Skype is not controlling any levels.
    Finally solved by adding 'alsactl restore' to the startup programs (gnome-session-properties).

    [UPDATE: Internal microphone no longer working under kernel 3.1.1-1 and alsa 0.24-3.]
    Sigh.

  • Thai input source not correct

    Thai input source is not correct. I do have a dual keypad and did not have a problem on Mavericks OS.....Please help

    In order for anyone to help you, you really must provide some more detail regarding "not correct".    Exactly what keys are not producing the results you expect?
    Also it is vital that you tell us which Thai layout you are using, since there are at least 2, Thai and Thai - PattaChote
    Finally you should tell us what app(s) you have the problem with.  Note that MS Word for Mac is a special case as it does not officially support Thai.

  • Please help me. ipod not registering

    Hi
    My ipod charger broke so I havnt used my ipod for a while. When I pluged in my ipod to my computor it said that it was corrupt and needed to be restored. So I tried that and my computor crashed. Now when I plug it the do not disconect thingy comes up on the ipod but my computor doesnt register it at all. Please help me!!! Im going to my best friends party on Friday and desperately need it sorted by then. If you have any advise at all please reply asap.
    Thanks in advance.

    First of all, try another port on your computer. Some ports are not connected direct to the motherboard and do not recognize the iPod as well as those that are. Reset the iPod each time you connect it to another port.
    Then try with the iPod in forced disk mode.

  • Help needed - Macbook not recognising built-in iSight

    Hi,
    I have had my Macbook for 4 years and had no problems with the built-in iSight until today. I tried a Skype call and realised the green light wasn't showing. I looked in all files to see if the computer recognised it was there and - nothing! It would appear it has 'disappeared'!
    I have tried the KB article stuff 2090 but it doesn't make any difference....
    I am by no means any kind of computer genius and am totally stuck. If anyone could help that would be much appreciated.
    Many thanks,
    Gemma.

  • Can't switch Input Source to built-in Mic

    A few days ago I switched my Input source for a real track to "Stereo 1/2 Built-in Input" by going to System Preferences > Sound > Input and selecting Line-In because I wanted to record guitar. Now when I go back to System Preferences and select Internal Microphone, it picks up a signal in the System Prefs window, but when I open Garageband there are no options to switch the input source to the Built-In Mic again. It only lists options for Mono Built-In Input and Stereo Built-In Input. What do I do to enable recording with the built-in mic again?

  • How to get input source line number

    I wrote a XSLT transformation that checks the input XML for errors.
    When the transformer finds a problem, it can terminate with <xsl:message terminate="yes">, which outputs the line number within the transformer XML source. I do so in my implementation to indicate errors.
    But i need to output the line number of the input source, not that of the transformer source, because this is the location of the error.
    Anybody knows how to do this?
    How can i get the current line number of the input source XML text?

    Hello Fritz!
    XALAN reads the entire input file (SAX) before starting with transformation.
    So overriding the input stream is no way to find this line number.
    I think this would have to be a built-in XSLT functionality within the tag "xsl:message".

  • Ventrilo on MacBook Pro with Built-In Mic

    I recently installed Ventrilo 3.0.1 client and cannot get it to recognize my MacBook Pro's built-in mic. The software is working otherwise, as it connects to the server and I can hear others.
    The MacBook Pro Sound control panel is set to built-in mic and the sound check is OK. In Ventrilo, the Sound Input is set to built-in mic and the Mute Sound and Mute Microphone Binds are unchecked. I turned the Amplifiers up but still got nothing.
    The Ventrilo site's FAQ and setup guides have no info on the subject, and I can't find this exact problem on any of the previous posts in this discussion forum.
    Thanks...

    btw, I have already seen much ado regarding the external mic/headset difficulties people have had regarding non-amplified mics/headsets, and understand how to make that work, though I would like to know which USB headsets some of you have had success with, but I am wondering why the internal microphone wouldn't work.
    I have seen some posts claiming that even USB headsets have difficulties under Leopard that they don't have with Tiger.
    As Apple saw fit not to provide built-in playthrough from audio mini-plug line in, I have used the 3rd party LineIn software as a work around. Is there something else out there that gets USB headsets and Ventrilo to play nice together?

  • Audio randomly changing states - mute & input source

    I think it was when I upgraded to 10.4 that my audio started randomly changing the state of mute, muting if it wasn't muted and visa versa, changing the input source, from line to internal mic and visa versa. For example, as best as I have noticed, it seems like when I do a file save in TextEdit maybe the sound will unmute or it might switch input sources. Strange! It is not consistent everytime and is not limited to TextEdit.
    Any ideas as to what is causing this?

  • Built in microphone not working. Can't select the 'Input Source'.

    I can't get the built in mic on my laptop to work, i tried any suggestion i could find on internet but i'm still stuck. I haven't used it before with windows or any other distribution so i can't tel if it's a new/old problem. I think the problem is that i don't have an option to select the 'Input Source' e.g. Mic or Front Mic as i saw in other's amixer controls/contents outputs.

    Dreyfus2006, welcome to the forum.
    I suggest going into Control Panel / Troubleshooting / Hardware and Sound / Recording Audio.  You can run the troubleshooter to see if it finds the problem.
    Also, have you uninstalled and reinstalled the microphone in Control Panel / Device Manger / Audio inputs and outputs?  This may allow you to install the latest driver.
    Please click the " Thumbs up + button" if I have helped you and click "Accept as Solution" if your problem is solved.

    the built-in mic in g50 122ca laptop model is not working. please help me out. OS: Windows Vista (32-bit)

    here is a sample code .
    so far you procedure looks good but
    i bet you have to specify the name of report , instead of 'filename'.
    see this
    Plist_id := GET_PARAMETER_LIST('P_name');
    IF NOT ID_NULL(Plist_id) THEN
    DESTROY_PARAMETER_LIST(Plist_id);
    END IF;
    Plist_id := CREATE_PARAMETER_LIST('P_name');
    ADD_PARAMETER( Plist_id, 'P_Receive_date', TEXT_PARAMETER, TO_CHAR(Receive_date,'mm/dd/yyyy'));
    ADD_PARAMETER( Plist_id, 'P_Hearing_date', TEXT_PARAMETER, TO_CHAR(Hearing_date,'mm/dd/yyyy'));
    ADD_PARAMETER( Plist_id, 'P_Hearing_time', TEXT_PARAMETER, TO_CHAR(Hearing_time,'mm/dd/yyyy'));
    ADD_PARAMETER( Plist_id, 'P_Issue_date', TEXT_PARAMETER, TO_CHAR(Issue_date,'mm/dd/yyyy'));
    ADD_PARAMETER( Plist_id, 'P_Workshop_date', TEXT_PARAMETER, TO_CHAR(Workshop_date,'mm/dd/yyyy'));
    -- RUN_PRODCT(REPORTS,'..\Reports\Pro_License',SYNCHRONOUS, RUNTIME, FILESYSTEM, Plist_id, NULL);
    -- here Pro_License is the name of report.
    did you tried to see if the parameter passed using a message ?
    try
    message('parameter name'); pause; write this before "run_report".

  • Line in / Built in Mic not working

    Hello everyone. I've got an iMac G5 and for some reason it just doesn't want to accept any sound input.
    The built in mic and line in both have the same behavior; no matter what I set the input volume to the bar never budges no matter how loud the sound is. The only time I even see the bar twitch is when I switch between the built in mic input and line in; sometimes I will see the bar flicker for an instant.
    This problem was happening with 10.4.2 and hasn't been fixed by 10.4.3. Has anyone else experienced something like this?

    Have same problem and have read entire thread. I
    don't have LOGIC so could not try it. Only
    difference with me is that my indicator shows input
    from line and I can vary it with input source volume
    controL. Just cannot hear it thru built in speaker.
    Both MIDI and PREF set correctly. Need help from
    anyone on this thread.
    You will not hear sound automatically through your speakers. You need something to listen to the audio that is being piped in.
    Try the program "LineIn" from:

    This should get you going.

  • After using apogee duet, mac's built in mic & logic's track headers for recording are not working properly.  How do I fix it?

    I use logic 9
    After using apogee duet for mac, I was away from my home studio without the duet and wanted to record vocals via the internal microphone on my mac book pro.  (Obviously, I know it wouldn’t be the same quality.  I wanted to do it as a draft, because I had a melody in my head and wanted to record it so I could remember it later.)
    After opening up a project I was unable to record audio.  I noticed the track headers had changed.  Sometimes the “record ready” button was missing.  But whether it was there or wasn’t, the same thing kept happening… After pressing the “record button” or the “record ready” button a window would pop up that said, “No input source selected!”  I tried to trouble shoot by configuring track header and by going to prefereces>audio>devices>core audio, and switched the “input device” to “built in microphone,” and things like that, but I still would get the same pop up window indicating “no input source selected.”   To be thorough, in preferences under “core audio,” I have selected universal track mode, 24 bit recording, and software monitoring.
    Do I need to reset something?
    If your recommendations help fix the immediate issue temporarily, how do I keep it from reverting back to the same problem if I feel like switching between the duet interface and the built in mic in the future?  How do I keep it permanently from this malfunction?  It seems like this is something simple that would be addressed.
    Also, as I was trying to think of anything it could possibly be.  I wonder if it could be the driver I installed for an old m-box2 possibly causing an issue.  After getting my new mac book pro, I downloaded a driver for m-box2 (the second generation that came out in 2005 and used pro tools LE.)  I used the m-box on my previous computer and it worked well.  Since I purchased a new macbook, I tried to use it on my new computer, but since the m-box2 is a 32 bit system, it didn’t work very well, which is why I got the duet.  I don’t know if that could possibly be messing anything up.  If so, should I uninstall it somehow?
    Thanks

    Ok, think this through... you've changed from a stereo source to a mono source.
    The message reads: “No input source selected!”
    On the track you're trying to record there is an Input section directly underneath the  I/O label. Click and hold to select the correct Input for that track.
    Also, the project you opened was saved with the Duet's driver/interface parameters.. if you open the same project without the audio interface Logic will do it's best to pick I/O that's compatible but I've never seen any DAW do this perfectly.. it always takes a small amount of user input. Especially since you've changed from the Apogee to the internal mic.
