HELP!! Install +Oracle 8i + Win XP+P.4 - 2

Not sure how to use all of this yet. Below is summary of previous comms on this. New info now. I opened the DBAssist (assistants\dbca)file and read the precise language of the argument that the install Tools Configuration reported. The report was not complete. The operative portion of the command line reads as follows. . . . ~~~~ \ice-4_06_6.jar" DBCreatewizard -seedloc "C:\ORACLE_PE (E)\starterdb") at the very end of the command line. the seedloc reference is to the directory into which I copied my installation files from the CDROM prior to installing Oracle. There IS a startupdb directory at that location on my c:\ drive. So do I add a "-nojit" after starterdb? or what?
Thank you for your kind and early reply. Regrettably, when I said neophyte I wasn't kidding. I have looked at some of the .cl files and see how they are constructed. What I am not sure about is exactly what to add and where to add it. e.g. do I simply add "/-nojit" or just a "-nojit" within the parens or is the syntax something else altogether different?
After doing that will Database Config Ass't run? or do I have to go thru the install process to get it properly installed before running it?
I also assume you meant "add" vice "had" in the last line. If I have to add an argument there, whatbis its exact syntax?
Hate to be a pest but am relatively dumb.
Mitch
Search all .cl file in your Oracle install directory and add the -nojit argument in the command line in each file (i think there are 9 or 10 files).
Then start Network configuration assistant and Database Configuration assistant.
You may had this argument in the JRE_MEMORY_OPTIONS field of oraparam.ini but i don't remember if it's necessary...

Further developments on my basic problem. I have decided that the parameters quoted from the error message and in the command line taken together apparently relate to the place from which the installation took place (I assume that seedloc means that). So, I checked my 'C' drive and find that when I copied over the CDROM files to the hard drive the drive letter designation was also carried over in the folder title so that the Directory name became C:\ORACLE_PE (E:) BUT when referred to in the DBAssist file comes off as C:\ORACLE_PE (E), dropping the ':' I rename the install directory back to ORACLE_PE and dropped the "(E:)" and then amended the command line of DBAssit by deleteing "(E)." So the DB Configuration Assistant now runs (if it didn't before. Won't be sure where I am for awhile. The reference to a seedloc does not appera in the other Assistants.

NI don't believe this is th issue.
The system just hangs when trying to run the installer. I think the problem is due to the Pentium 4 processor (like the Microsoft bug where you need copy the whole installation to disc, rename one of the .dll files and install from the staging area just created).
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Second, if you got a message about 'insufficient privilege' when trying to log on to a database, you would most likely have a working database to have even determined 'insufficient privilege'. So the last thing you want to do is keep trying to re-install.

  • Install oracle on win vesta

No matter if this system is on the oracle "certificated" page or not, if you wanna try to install it on this new OS, just do it. I cannot see any reason vista would be different with Windows XP.

I'm sorry you're running into installation issues with AIR.  Microsoft has released a utility that can help resolve installation problems.  Would you mind giving this a try and let us know how it works for you?  When running the Fix it, go through the uninstall process and try to remove Adobe AIR from your system.  This might be problematic given that you no longer see AIR in the control panel, but try it out and let me know.
Microsoft Install and Uninstall Fix It
If your unable to find AIR listed in the MS utility, we'll need to review the AIR installer MSI log to better diagnose the issue. You can find instructions for generating and finding these logs here:

  • Installing Oracle 8.1.6 on Red Hat Linux 7.0

I have installed Oracle on Win NT quite a few times. I am trying to get my hands dirty with Oracle on Linux.
I have religiously followed all the steps in the installation guide except for changing kernel
parameters and recompiling, as I was not very comfortable with kernel recompilation
and also since I am using it only for testing and not for production, I felt the default
values might suffice. I have installed the software but when I start creating the database
it hangs after sometime saying 'Not connected to Oracle'. I have configured the listener
seperately using netca and tried to create the database using dbassist, but could proceed no further.
    Kindly suggest way out.

  • Error message when installing Oracle 10g on Windows XP Professional

    Hello,
I need help installing oracle 10g database. When I attempt to run the installation from the setup.exe icon, I get a message that says
"Error in writing to directory C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Temp\OraInstall2007-04-29_01-19-29PM. Please ensure this directory is writable and has atleast 45Mb of disk space. Installation cannot continue."
When I try to open the installation from the Autorun icon, it points to an innability to find setup.exe and when I go back to Setup.exe, it gives me the above error. Everytime I try to run the installation and it fails, the installation leaves a folder in my Temp folder with the above format. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

I do have administrative privilege on my computer and I have plenty of space. I have 80gb of free space. What do I do to successfully install the software without incurring those messages I displayed in my first thread?

    Thank you

Oracle Developler 11g is now called Oracle Fusion Middleware (FMw) 11g and can be downloaded from the Oracle Fusion Middleware Downloads page. You have to download and install WebLogic Server (WLS) 10.3.3 first, then scroll down and download and install Portal, Forms, Reports and Discoverer (11.1.1.3.0).
When you install WLS, make sure you do not run the configuration step. When you install FMw, it will configure the WLS as part of it's configuration step.
    Hope this helps,

  • Error while Installing Oracle 11.5.9 on Win XP

I am trying to install Oracle Applications 11.5.9 Vision Demo on Windows XP.
    My PC has following configuration:-
Pentium IV 2.4 GHZ processor, 1GB RAM, 220 GB harddisk(D:) with another harddisk C: as 10 GB and another harddisk E: as 32 GB where I have created the staging area. I am trying to install onto D: where 120GB Space is available.
I have installed the pre-requisites as discussed in post Intallation on Win XP:
    1. MKS Tool Kit to C:\MKS and changed to C:\MKS\MKSNT in rapidwiz install.
    2. Installed GNUMAKE 3.79.1 and copied the GNUMAKE.exe in the winrel folder to windows\system32 folder.
    3. Installed MS Visual C++ to C:\VB98 folder and common setups to C:\MVS folder. (The documentation says that Microsoft Visual C++ is required and oracle installation does not support the NET version. How to deduct that its not the NET version?)
    4. Installed JAVA SDK 1.4.2 in C:\jdk131 (I have read that for windows installation versions higher than 1.3.1_09 are not recomended, Is it true?)
    5. Changed the hosts file in system32\drivers\etc to have an entry for domain 127.0.0.1 pcname.xyz.com. Updated domain name in More Screen and Was able to get the ping state my domain. both pcname gives pcname.xyz.com and pcname.xyz.com also gives the same result.
    6. Set the enviornment variables as discussed in that post.
    7. The installer checks for the pre-requisites and passes all the pre installation checks.
    8. I proceeded the installation and in step 3 of 5 after unzipping the 130 files it halts at 32% while unzipping file 6 of 63 and the system gives me a the error "Error Code received when running external process. Check log file for details. Running Database Install Driver for VIS instance".
    9. I have queried for the log file but unable to find any error or anything after the pre install check state. The data only tells that pre install checks were okay.
I am struck at this point and I have gone through all the documentation etc and not able to get any clue. Any Installation Guru please help me.

  • Solution for installing oracle 9i successfully on win XP

I have found this method to be reliable in installing oracle 9i on win XP without giving any problems.Try it out and let me know if it helped you all too.
    1. De-install Oracle 9i and any other Oracle products.
    2. Clean out your registry, removing all references to any Oracle product.
    3. Delete all Oracle folders, including the inventory folder in C:\Program Files.
    4. If installing from a CD, wait until the splash screen appears then cancel the installation. Find AUTORUN.EXE on the AUTORUN folder of the installation CD. Right click on it, select PROPERTIES, then click the COMPATIBILITY tab. Check "Run this program in compatibility mode for:", then select "Windows NT 4.0 (Service Pack 5)" from the drop down list. Click OK. Do the same for SETUP.EXE.

    Oracle9i Database Release 2 Enterprise/Standard/Personal/Client Edition
    for Windows XP 2003/Windows Server 2003 (64-bit)
And try to install it on XP.
I installed it according to your explanation.
I installed from a CD and wait until the splash screen appears then cancel the installation. Find AUTORUN.EXE on the AUTORUN folder of the installation CD. • HELP! Can not install Oracle 8.1.5 w/ RedHat 6.1!

I can not get Oracle 8.1.5 to install onto Linux RedHat 6.1. The
Oracle installation script generates several errors. I have
tried several attempts, using different options, but they all
    generate errors.
Please help. The Oracle Installation scripts appear to be very
buggy... or perhaps they are incompatible with the standard
RedHat 6.1 release. Either way, it is very frustrating.
I have documented one of my (failed) installation attempts below.
Does anyone have any words of wisdom?
I am installing Oracle onto a Dell Latitude CPi PC w/ 128MB RAM,
a 366MHz Pentium II, and RedHat 6.1 (using the standard Linux
2.2.12-2 kernel). RedHat was installed using the standard "Gnome
    Workstation" configuration.
    The Oralce CD is labeled:
    "Oralce 8i Enterprise Edition
    Release 8.1.5
    for Linux
    (c) Oracle Corporation 1999"
I got this CD about one week ago at Oracle OpenWorld '99 in Los
Angeles... it should be their "latest & greatest" version so far.
    1. Pre-Installation and ./runInstall
I created an "oracle" Unix account w/ groups "oinstall" (the
primary group) and "dba" (a secondary group).
I created directories /u01 through /u04, belonging to oracle.
I setup .cshrc and sourced it, containing:
    umask 022
    setenv DISPLAY `hostname`:0
    xhost +
    setenv ORACLE_BASE /u01/app/oracle
    setenv ORACLE_HOME ${ORACLE_BASE}/product/8.1.5
    setenv ORACLE_SID cprtest
    setenv PATH ${ORACLE_HOME}/bin:${PATH}
    setenv LD_LIBRARY_PATH ${ORACLE_HOME}/lib
    setenv NLS_LANG US7ASCII
    I downloaded jre116_v5 and installed to /usr/local/jre.
Finally, I executed (from the "oracle" Unix account):
    cd /mnt/cdrom
    ./runInstall
Problem: I got the error (from ./runInstall):
Initializing Java Virtual Machine from /usr/local/jre/bin/jre.
    Please wait...

    : Bad address
Workaround: Executed the following commands instead:
    cd /mnt/cdrom/install/linux
    ./runIns.sh
    3. runIns.sh and root.sh
I selected the following options (from ./runIns.sh):
    Source: /mnt/cdrom/stage/products.jar
    Destination: /u01/app/oracle/product/8.1.5
    Oracle 8i Enterprise Edition 8.1.5.0.0
    Typical (585MB)
Installable Components: Oralce Intelligent Agent 8.1.5.0.0
    Global Database Name: cprtest.parkrussell.com
    SID: cprtest
    Directory for Database Files: /u02
Then (when instructed by ./runIns.sh), I attempted to execute
    (from the
    "root" Unix account):
    cd /u01/app/oracle/product/8.1.5
    ./root.sh
    Problem: I got the error:
    "bash: ./root.sh: Permission denied"
The execute bit was not set.
    Workaround: I executed:
    chmod a+x root.sh
    ./root.sh
    5. Configuration Tools
The Oracle Installer (./runIns.sh) attempted to execute:
    A. Net8 Configuration Agent
    B. Oracle Database Configuration Agent
Problem: The "Oracle Database Configuration Agent" failed with
    the following error message:
"One or more tools have failed. It is recommended but not
required that these tools succeed for this installation.
You can now select these tools, read its details to examine
why they have failed, fix those problems, and retry them.
Or, you can click "Next" to continue."
When I selected the "Oracle Database Configuration Agent" for
more info, I got the following additional details (as the cause
    of the error):
"A required command line argument is missing."
    The log file
    "/u01/app/oracle/oraInventory/logs/installActions.log" recorded:
"Command which is being spawned is /usr/local/jre/bin/jre

Workaround: There is obviously nothing I can do to fix this
problem. It appears to be an internal bug in ./runIns.sh.
Therefore, I selected "Next" and executed "dbassist" directly.
    6. dbassist
    I executed:
    dbassist
Problem: I got the following error:
    "JNLS Execution:oracle.ntpg.jnls.JNLSException
Unable to find any National Character Sets. Please
    check your Oracle installation."
Workaround: Press "OK" and ignore the error.
    7. dbassist (cont.)
    I selected the following options:
    Create database
    Typical
Copy existing database files from the CD
    Global Database Name: cprtest.parkrussell.com
    SID: cprtest
Problem: I got the following error:
"CD-ROM drive not detected on this system.
    Database not created."
(Note: I've been running the installation scripts from the
CDROM drive this entire time. "df" shows the CDROM drive
mounted on /mnt/cdrom. "ls /mnt/cdrom" works too.)
Workaround: Abort (which generated the additional error: "Unable
to create database. DBCA-00003: No CD-ROM drive detected.") and
run dbassist again, this time using different parameters.
    8. dbassist, again
I executed "dbassist" again and selected the following options:
    Create database
    Typical
    Create new database files
    Hybrid
    Concurrently connected users: 5
Options: Oralce interMedia, Oralce JServer, and iM demos
    Global Database Name: cprtest2.parkrussell.com
    SID: cprtest2
    Create database now
Problem: I got the following error:
    "ORA-01012: not logged on"
    Workaround: Try, try again.
    9. dbassist, one last time
Executed "dbassist" once more and selected the following options:
    Create database
    Typical
    Create new database files
    Hybrid
    Concurrently connected users: 5
Options: Oralce interMedia, Oralce JServer, and interMedia
    demos
    Global Database Name: cprtest3.parkrussell.com
    SID: cprtest3
    Output creation script
Then, I executed (from the "oracle" Unix account):
    cd /u01/app/oracle/product/8.1.5/install
    setenv ORACLE_SID cprtest3
    ./sqlcprtest3.sh
Problem: I got the following output:

    10. sqlplus
I attempted to execute sqlplus, but got the following error
    message:
    "/u01/app/oracle/product/8.1.5/bin/sqlplus: Permission denied."
The execute bit was not set.
    Workaround: I executed:
    chmod a+x /u01/app/oracle/product/8.1.5/bin/sqlplus
    sqlplus
I gave up for now... there were just too many things wrong with
this installation, starting with the very first command I was
    supposed to execute (./runInstaller).
I can't fathom why Oracle's installation script has so many bugs.
Am I just doing something terribly wrong?
    Please help.

I'm using enlightenment version 0.15.5-41, which is more recent
than the 0.15.5-37 version (containing the Oracle installer
patch) that you recommended. Unfortunately, it fails when using
    this version.
I also tried installing Oracle using twm, with enlightenment
    disabled. This didn't help either.
Furthermore, the errors that I'm encountering in the OUI are
not just toward the end of the installation. They happen from
the very beginning, right after I enter "./runInstall", and
continue every step of the way.

But at Step:12 - Mobile Server repository Wizzard after password enter I get error --- Io exception: The Network Adapter could not establish the connection. May I insert specific password for Username SYSTEM? Or where is problem?
    Thanks for hint
    David

    Hi,
I have the same problem but, how can i know what my SID is ? i am trying with "ORCL" and it doesnt work.
Do you know in which file i can get it ? in the documentation of the installation i found this:
"If you are not sure of the values to enter for the URL, then you can query the data dictionary to obtain these values.
Connect as SYSTEM and run the following queries.
    To retrieve the SID, execute: select instance_name from v$instance;
If you need to retrieve the port number, check the listener.ora file on the
    back-end database."
But how can i query the database if i have not finished to install it yet and where is located the listener.ora file ?
I hope you can help me.
    Thank you.
