No, but the drive could be. Since you have multiple computers here's links on how to install on one computer, using the DVD drive in another computer through Target Disk Mode. Don't worry that the links refer to Tiger.

  • Installer Disk Will not Quit and Will not Eject. Please Help!

I did a really stupid thing today: I tried to install Leopard on my iBook G4, not thinking/realizing that it needs more RAM than it has to be able to install it. Now, 10 hours later, the installer disk will not quit and I can find no way to eject it. I have shut down the computer several times and then restarted while holding down the mouse button, but the **** thing just starts cranking away again. At some point, I was able to pull down and choose Quit for the Installer; eventually, a thing came up giving three options: I think they were "restart" "choose startup disk" and "don't quit." I followed the directions that also appeared and clicked "choose startup disk." It has continued to chug away for the past hour after doing that. Is there any hope that I can
    a. recover my poor little iBook
    b. recover the Leopard Installer Disk? I sincerely hope not to have to buy another one!
    Thanks.

There was another thread on this very topic recently, and many things were tried, but I don't know if anything ever worked and I was unable to find that thread.
However, here is something from the MBP forum that sounds like it might also work for an iBook:

  • Installer disk could not be found bootcamp problem

    Hi everyone,
I am trying to download windows 7 on my mid-2011 iMac with bootcamp assistant. After selecting the option "Save a copy on an external drive", downloading the WindowsSupport helper, and partioning the disc and clicking install, it comes up with "The installer disk could not be found". Could someone please help me come up with a way to solve this problem please.
Also, how do you tell if you are going to download the 64-bit version of windows 7 ultimate/premium/starter?

By the way guys I am using bootcamp 4. something

  • Installer Disk Could Not be Found

I tried to install Windows 7 RC on my Boot Camp Assistant, but after I click "Start Installation", the message "Installer Disk could not be found" appeared.
    Note:
The disc is recognized already, i.e. I could see the DVD appearing on my desktop.
I downloaded the 64bit ISO, and burnt it into a DVD.
Any idea in the solution to troubleshoot? Thanks!

I have the same problem only with the 32-bit ISO. Is there a way I could do the installation from an SD card or an external hard drive? Or, is there a way I can boot from the DVD I burned?
I used a DVD+RW disc if that makes a difference. I will try burning the ISO image at half speed as I've seen recommended in other topics.
I burned the ISO image to the DVD using the MacBook Pro if that makes any difference I can try burning it from my HP laptop when I get back home next week.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Bootcamp: installer disk could not be found - but MAC desktop can see it

    Hi,
I have an iMac intel - 17" 1.83 GHz that I put together from a box of junk. Mechanic friend took it all apart, don't ask. Installed a new hard drive of 1 terrabyte. The internal optical drive does not work so we got a new Iomega optical drive that works just great.
We want to run Windows XP Pro on this iMac - and after updating all of the software in Mac (OS 10.5.8), and running Bootcamp set up assistant, partitioned the drive to 500 GB MAC; 500 GB PC, got this error message saying that the Windows XP installer disk could not be found.
The disk appears on the desktop. I can click on it and see all of the pc files in it. I clicked on a couple of the files and got a simple text document of gibberish. But the set up assistant in Bootcamp still doesn't recognize the disk. So I have been unable to install Windows.
The disk itself is a burned copy from my university that gave me a full license for Windows XP Pro, SP 3. It's 32 bit. And it shows up as an install disk when I pop it into a PC.
I've run Disk Warrior and Disk Utilities to repair permissions and to check that the new hard drive is ok...and it's all set.
I wonder if this is because of the external dvd drive that I'm using. I can use my Macbook Pro and get the imac into target mode. But don't know if this will have me continue to bark up this tree.
Has anyone had success with the same kind of problem that I'm not facing? Thanks much in advance.
    Sheila

I too got a version of Windows 7 64 Professional from the the Microsoft Software Distribution Network through Uni. I burnt the iso file on a PC to a DVD with power ISO and then tried to use it as the install disk. After some umming and arrhhing Mac OS X recognised it, the installer started, allowed to select language etc, then suddenly a box appears announcing that a required cd/dvd drive device driver is missing.
I have rang up apple support and they are pretty much saying it is a disc quality issue, but I have checked all the disc drive regimes and permissions and they all seem to be fine. I have also done it with multiple brands and a number of times, everytime the same message returned. All the latest firmware has been downloaded. One thing that was briefly mentioned by the guy at Apple support was that there was the possibility that it may be the "logic board". So the previous poster may be right. They said this was unlikely, but everything is possible. The drive works for everything in the OS X side though, so has pretty much stumped me and the Apple support people. I think the only option is to take it to an Apple shop and let them see it for themselves, not really an option for me as I need the Mac Book to write my dissertation, due in about three weeks so can't afford to lose it.
Sorry if I have slightly "jacked" the thread, but the issue sounded pretty close to mine. Any resolution or insight into what might be the issue would be amazing.

    Duncan

  • Help, the disk could not be read from or written to.

Help, I've been an ipod user since the first one came out, so I know my way around this thing. My problem is I can't get the songs I've purchased from iTunes or songs that I add from my external hard drive to load on my ipod classic 120g. Now I've been doing this for years and hundreds of times so nothing has changed. Now I'm getting the message The disk could not be read from or written to. Ok, I've done a complete restore, uninstalled iTunes and reinstalled iTunes, I took the ipod to the apple store and they checked it and said it was fine. Now I need this for work so I need a fix. Can anyone help.  Thanks Scott.

That article mentions other things also, like any anti virus software you may have. You could try turning it off.
It also mentions damaged song files.
In truth it could be a lot of things, and it's curious that you say this used to happen once in a while.
It could be also be a problem with the cable or even the iPod itself.
I take it you've tried restoring the iPod?
See: How to restore the iPod to factory settings.
I don't know what iScrobbler is, but any software can interfere with the workings of the iPod (delicate and fussy little creatures that they are).

  • Boot camp displays "the installer disk could not be found"

I have burned the Windows 8.1 .iso image 3 times and for some reason when I try to start the bootcamp utility I get the message "The installer disc could not be found"... I have the Win 8.1 Pro disk in my superdrive and nothing happens! Very frustrating!

Reading other posts like this I have verified the installer disk.

  • Installation disk will not open or autorun.

Brand new installation of sbs 2011 premium add on (SBS 2008 R2) on dell power edge box. Ready to install SQL Server 2008 R2 (disk 2 of the premium add on package). DVD drive will not open or browse contents of installation disk. DVD drive on new server
reads/opens all other disks, AND the SQL install disk opens in any other machine. This is a new, never installed retail set of disks. Anyone have any ideas? Is there some kind of software protection on this cd that would cause it to not open on the
machine that has the companion OS disk installed?

    Hi DavidCraig,
    As mentioned in this
article, we can install SQL Server 2008 R2 on Windows Small Business Server 2011. And according to my knowledge, there’s no specific software protection on the cd.
From your description, DVD drive will not open or browse contents of installation disk, have you got any error messages?
Besides, could you please copy the SQL Server setup files (which are extracted successfully in other machine) to Windows Small Business Server 2011?
Then check if you can install SQL Server 2008 R2 on the server.
    Thanks,
    Lydia Zhang

  • Help! "Disk can not be read from or written to" error

Hi, I just bought a couple of movies on itunes but when I try to sync them to iphone it stalls and I get the error "Attempt to copy to disk "my iphone" failed. The disk could not be read from or written to". Oddly though everything else except the videos seems to sync OK (including new songs I added to my iphone playlist). Any suggestions?

yeah, I can watch them on itunes I just can't get them to sync to iphone. I've also been able to sync other .mp4 videos to the phone just not the ones from the itunes store.

  • "Installer Disk Could Not Be Found"..help? Please?

I'm trying to install Windows 7 using Boot Camp, but when I come to the part that lets me decide how many GB I want to dedicate to Windows and how many GB to my Mac, I click the install button only to have a window pop up that says my install disk cannot be found. The disk IS in the computer, and I have burned the img file to the disk (a dvd-r disk). I'm going to try my friend's copy of Windows 7, maybe my disk is just acting up. If that is NOT the case, what should I do? And why am I recieving these error window-pop ups? I'm extremely new to my MacBook Pro, and I'm okay with using a PC but by no means am I anywhere near to be tech savvy. I'm running Mountain Lion OS X 10.8.3 by the way.

If the Optical drive is good, and it can read the DVD, the only missing link that I can see is the Driver that Windows has to access the Optical drive.
Can you verify that you meet the requirements fork Windows 7 - Boot Camp: System requirements for Microsoft Windows operating systems
What version of OSX are you running? (Your signature says Mavericks, so you should be installing a 64-bit W7). Is your disk a 64-bit W7 installer?

  • 500 GB Hard Disk will not mount on iMacs (after working fine for months)

setup : 2x iMac 24" 10.5.6..wired to airport Xtreme, Iomega 500 GB HD connected via USB
this drive worked fine and has all the pics on it and was used to backup both iMac's via Time Machine.
Today the Airport Xtreme (AX) gives us a flashing orange light and informs us that the 500 GB Iomega disk needs to be connected to the mac and needs to be repaired.
so...we did, with a "disk appears to be OK " message after 'repair'
mounting from within Disk Utility gives us : "The disk “500HD” could not be mounted.
Try running First Aid on the disk and then retry mounting."
    (we did just that...!)
We also tried "Drive Genius" with the same results.
whether we hook the drive to the AX or directly to the iMac...no mounting.
The drive (and it's partition) does appear perfectly in both 'Disk Utility' and in 'Drive Genius'
(The iMac does mount other USB items like mem-sticks, camera's just fine.)

While it doesn't sound like this is really the problem since OTHER devices work on the USB ports, never the less, it is an easy thing to try out anyway.
First thing to do is reset the USB chip set on the mother board. Unfortunately, when you power down the computer there is always a bit of power still applied to the motherboard to keep things alive and this usually includes powering the ports to do stuff like detect when a device is plugged in or wants to wake up the computer. The downside of this is when a bus/port chipset goes into a weird state, locks up, etc., simply power cycling (shutdown & restart) the computer won't work.
So first thing to try is resetting the chipset and to do this you have to power down the computer and completely unplug the computer from the wall power (unplug the power cord to your Mac). Also unplug everything from the Mac's ports (USB, FW, Ethernet, etc.) to make sure no parasitic power is still there to keep the chipset alive. Now let it sit for a minute (give those big power caps in there time to discharge). Now reattach the keyboard & mouse only, plug the power cord back in, & start up the Mac. Now see if your USB ports work any better.
    Best of luck!

  • Blank DVD-R not accepted by iMac

Each time I put in a blank DVD-R I hear the drive churning away for about 45 seconds and then it spits it out. No dialog box or nothing to indicate the reason. Here's the hardware info for this machine:
    PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-K06A:
    Firmware Revision: Q624
    Interconnect: ATAPI
Burn Support: Yes (Apple Shipping Drive)
    Cache: 2000 KB
    Reads DVD: Yes
    CD-Write: -R, -RW
    DVD-Write: -R, -R DL, -RW, +R, +R DL, +RW
    Write Strategies: CD-TAO, CD-SAO, CD-Raw, DVD-DAO
Media: To show the available burn speeds, insert a disc and choose View > Refresh
I don't have a problem with inserting recorded DVDs or disks containing software (Snow Leopard Disk, etc.) I've tried a couple different DVD-Rs with no difference. I've tried deleting the iDVD preference files (since I'm trying to burn a project to DVD), restarted numerous times, repaired permissions, etc.
Any advice on what's going wrong???
    Regards,
    Patrick

I think I found an answer that solved this problem. I'll post it for others who might be having the same issue - it involve zapping the PRAM and NVRAM, which I used to have to do a long time back, but hadn't done for quite a while. • Help requested - Time Capsule not detected by iMac

I've just purchased an iMac and a time capsule. The iMac has connected to my existing wireless network without any problem. However, it doesn't detect the Time Capsule (I intend using the Time Capsule purely for back up). Any thoughts on why the iMac cannot detect the Time Capsule? I've tried moving the Time Capsule to different locations to see if it makes a difference but it remains undetected by my iMac.

Have you tried setting it up with Airport Utility, installing the software that came with it? You need to configure the Time Capsule, just as you would any other wireless router. Also, double check your network settings.
If you still can't detect it after the initial "set up," try connecting to it directly with an ethernet cable for the initial connection.
