Help! Installed 10.4.7 and lost Finder and desktop
Help! I just installed 10.4.7 update from Software Update and now I cannot access my Finder, hard drive or see anything on my desktop including my hard drive. I CAN get to and use everything in my dock except Finder. I tried installing the combo update, but since I cannot see anything on my desktop, I cannot tell if download even worked, much less access it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your suggestion. I don't have Disk Warrior or Tech Tools, but I did try running disk repair from the Tiger DVD and the repair stopped saying "The underlying task reported failure on exit"
It also said Repair attempted on 1 volume, 1 volume could not be repaired.
Before I upgraded to 10.4.7 everything on my computer was working beautifully, so I'm really stumped and not much of an expert on these issues...At this point I just want it back the way it was before.
Do appreciate the help though!

Help install jwsdp 1.0 and run JAX-RPC example
I installed jwsdp1.0 today and I tried to run the Hello world example for JAX-RPC (http://java.sun.com/webservices/docs/1.0/tutorial/doc/JAXRPC3.html).
The problem is with any command passed at the console (ant command or startup (tomcat), deploytool, etc) I always get the following message : Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: Files/Microsoft.
The operating system in win XP and jre is 1.4.0.
The variables I used are JAVA_HOME (D:\Java\j2sdk1.4.0)
and JWSPD_HOME (d:\java\jwsdp-1_0). Both bin folder are setup on the path variable (%JAVA_HOME%\bin;%JWSPD_HOME%\bin).
Help will be very much appreciatedMaybe this is just a typo in your post, but the variable name should be JWSDP_HOME, not JWSPD_HOME.

Need help installing new hard drive and wiping the old one for Windows XP.
I’ve searched to try and figure out the answer to my question and haven’t been too successful, so hopefully someone can help me out. I have a new Mac Pro that I haven’t even turned it on yet because I’m waiting for some upgrades to show up. Here is what I plan to do, I’m unsure of what I need to do and what order to do it in:
It has a stock 250GB hard drive that I plan to wipe and install Windows XP on. I have a new 750GB drive coming that will run Leopard which will be my primary OS. Once I have this set up, I will probably try running VM Fusion which I assume I can install later on. Here are my questions:
When I put my new blank 750GB drive in to install Leopard, will OS X boot up off the Leopard install disc to then allow me to do the install?
When do I wipe the smaller drive to put Windows on it, before or after I’ve installed Leopard on the new drive? How should I wipe it, using the Bootcamp setup assistant or Disc Utility? If I wipe it after installing Leopard, will I be prompted for which drive to boot from?
Thanks in advance for any help.I don't use Windows, but I think the proper order to do things would be this:
First, if your Mac Pro came with Tiger installed, when you start it up for the first time, you'll need to go through some initial setup, create an administrator account, etc. You can go ahead and do this.
Afterwards, you can install your 750 GB drive. Next, you can insert your Leopard disk, and go to System Preferences/Startup Disk to choose to start up from the disk. (Alternatively, if you just choose "Install Mac OS X" from the disk, it will instruct you to restart the mac.)
When the mac boots from the disc, install Leopard on your 750. Once you have that done, and have booted from that drive, you'll be able to erase your 250 in Disk Utility, and then install Windows on it. -
Help Installing a CD-RW and a DVD to a Soundblaster Live 5.1 sound c
I know that this may be a stupid question but I need some help. I have a Sony CD-RW and an Hitatchi DVD dri've and have no idea how to hook them both up to my Soundblaster Li've 5. card. First off can I hook up more than one Rom dri've to my card and if I can some one let me know how? :smileyindifferent:
Do I hook up one dri've to the the CD Audio connector (the master dri've,CDRW) and the other to the Aux connector (slave,DVD)? And which one should I hook up to the CD SPDIF connector?
I tried the Search function and checked out the first 50 pages of the forum with no luck.

Need help installing Photoshop Elements 13 and Premiere Elements 13
I have a Dell Precision M4800 running 64-bit Windows 7. Yesterday I purchased Adobe Photoshop Elements 13 and Premiere Elements 13. I did not have a trial version of the product. I followed the download instructions and used links sent in an email. I used the Adamai/Akamai (sp?) download manager. The downloads took nearly three hours. Following downloads of the big files, I had to refresh/restart to initiate the .exe files download. That's the background info. There is an Adobe Photoshop Elements icon on my desktop but it does not open either program. A window opens with two folders PSE 13 and Readme. When I click on the PSE 13 folder, another window opens with four folders: DEPLOY, PACKAGES, PAYLOADS, RESOURCES, and two applications: OEM and Set-Up. I presume that Set-Up would be the installer but it has 0 KB and when I click on it says "Set-up.exe is not a valid Win32 application." How do I proceed from here? This lengthy download process and problems are the pits. I really need another brain for this.
I am in the same situation as TheaBaker is up to the point where I went through the lengthy downloads, I have the serial numbers available to both Photoshop13 and Elements13. I click on the http://.........win64.exe and I get a message that states the following.
The file archive part of Adobe Photoshop Elements 13 is missing. You need all parts in the same folder in order to extract Adobe Photoshop Elements 13. Please download all parts.
Does this mean I have to re-download both Photoshop13 and Elements13? GASP!!
Adobe could make this a lot easier!! Poor customer service. -
HELP! DVD Drive not showing on finder or desktop
Hi, I am not a Mc OS expert. I have a Mac Pro 1,1 with MAC OSX 10.7.5, and my original DVD drive died. I happened to have an HP Lightscribe DVD640, and I installed it, but, its icon does not show up!
It is recognized by the system and Disk Utility, and if I insert a CD or DVD it reads it correctly, but when I remove it, there's no icon of the actual drive anywhere, so, I won't be able to open the drive to insert a new disc...
I set the Finder preferences to show CDs and DVDs, but nothing shows...
Any suggestion?but... this is a Mac Pro, it does not have a slot-in, how do I even open the drive? I was able to see the DVD drive icon before, and select "OPEN" and the tray would open, now, I don't se anything.

my dektop is missing.
it all started with opening a file on my desktop,
it didn't open so i forced it to quit. now i lost my dektop or finder. don't know which one....
can open programs from the dock which also says that finder is open but i can't see any of the applictions that used to be on my desktop.
if i close safari the littel wheel with coloures is just spinning.
can't restart the computer.
can't charge the computer but it's not using any batteri.
have i crashed it?

Was installing new ios 7 and it asked for acct and password. it did not like and said it would email a new password. no email received. can not figure the Apple support screens to find a phone number to call. help.
No need for alarm. There are several folks a day posting like threads. Most folks know these phishing attempts for what they are and merely delete with prejudice.
To the bottom line... if you wish - and I am sure Apple will take notice - you should FORWARD the email to [email protected] and delete.

Thanks in advance. please help me out.If you activated the Find My iPhone service (in Settings>icloud), and if the device's batteries still have a charge, the device is not turned off and has not been reset and is connected to wifi, then you can try to track it. Using a computer, log into icloud.com and look at the Find My iPhone page. On a device, invoke the Find My iPhone app (get it for free at the itunes app store) and log into the icloud account.
If the device is listed as "offline", then one of the requirements listed above is not met (like being connected to wifi, or if the device was stolen and the thief reset it). -
Help!! What's going wrong here. I used to have iTunes installed on this computer but lost it when it crashed. I've tried re-installing it numerous times but I keep getting the same error message. "Error writing to file: C:\ProgramFiles\iTunes.Resources\es.lproj\iPadLicense.rtf. Verify that you have access to that directory." I know I have access to that directory because on a different computer I can sync my iPad and iPhone. What am I doing wrong? What do I need to go in and authorize or turn on? Any help greatly appreciated. Thank you.
That one's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.
XP instructions in the following document: How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP
Vista instructions in the following document: Check your hard disk for errors
Windows 7 instructions in the following document: How to use CHKDSK (Check Disk)
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards? -
Hello! I had Photoshop Elements (and some other products) installed on my Laptob, but lost them because of a system breakdown. Trying to install these programms again, I logged in to my account "my adobe" and immediately found my products listed there plus a link "download here". But clicking the link didn´t start anything. Nothing happened. How can I get my prgramms installed again?
Try using a different browser if the link did not work.

I installed the new version thinking it would be the same, It was horrible! uninstalled it... Installed the older version and now it won't open and when I try it says it can't because the library can't open because it was used on a newer version. Come on! I just want my music! How do I open this and get my music back.

Now I am resting easy and thankful that there is a community of computer users out there who care enough to troubleshoot problems together and work together to figure out a solution--and then to take the time to post and share information.
I would STRONGLY suggest that anyone who is having the iTunes issues where iTunes just plain won't open at all after downloading the newest version and has a pc with Norton Internet Security 2005 try the "Lorraine Method."
I am so happy I think I might sing. Or not--I will let my songs on iTunes do the singing for me now that I can again!!!!!!!
And to those still looking for answers--be patient--I now know how incredibly frustrating this can be and I hope that you all find your solutions very very soon!!
