Help installing fonts on a PC

I just purchased and downloaded Emmasrcipt and Jenson Pro but when I try to install I get the following error message:  "the file does not appear to be a valid font". Can someone please help me resolve this issue?

What is the extension of those files ? ( Maybe they need to be extracted from archives ?)
I also somewhat remember that some programs needed fonts (with a particular extension) to be copied in some of their own subfolders instead of the system's Fonts folder… so, which program do you plan to use these with ? In any case, which OS are you running ?

  • Need help installing fonts...

    Greetings!
I am trying to install Adobe fonts on my MacBook (OS X 10.5.6) for the first time and having MAJOR difficulties. Any help would be greatly appreciated. The files I have are "AFM," "INF" and "PBF" files which are not the normal "TTF" or, "OTF" files I'm used to working with. I also have the same font in something called a "font suitcase" and "LWFN" (post script) file.
Can anyone help me to actually install and use these things???
    Thanks!
    +Fr. Luke Hartung

I haven't used mac in ages, but I know the AFM files are not needed, and I don't think the INF ones are either (could be wrong on that). The pfb fonts are the main outlines, and there used to be another needed component (screen fonts) but that was in the old System 7 days. Maybe the inf replaces those.
Two options, since hardly anyone visits this forum. Repost in the Typography forum, within this same section. More users there, and lots of Mac users. And while waiting for an answer, is there a possiblity of searching on a Mac for all pfb files, to find out what folder the other PFB and possibly INF files are located in?

  • Problem installing fonts

I'm new to OSX so please be gentle with me.
Having used classic for many, many years, I've just bought a MacBook Pro running 10.4.7. It's taking some getting used to, and I'm having a major headache with fonts.
On Classic, to install new fonts I just dropped them in the system/fonts folder. Easy!. Now, I'm trying to shift two font families from my old G4 Powerbook to the new machine, and I cannot get them to load into fontbook. No matter what I do, they just refuse to appear on the new machine (or in any application running on it) and it's driving me crazy.
Can anybody tell me how in the **** to get this to work?
    Thanks,
    Adam

Hi, Adam. Welcome to the Discussions.
    1. You wrote: "I'm trying to shift two font families from my old G4 Powerbook to the new machine, and I cannot get them to load into fontbook."If the fonts in question are bitmap fonts, then they won't work in Mac OS X.
Double-clicking a font should bring up a Preview window with an Install button. Clicking Install will install the font in either• your Home > Library > Fonts folder ("for me only"), or
    • the Macintosh HD > Library > Fonts folder ("for all users of this computer"), or
    • the System Folder > Fonts folder ("for Classic Mac OS")...which does not apply to your MacBook since it can't run Classic...depending on how you have set Font Book preferences, as indicated parenthetically above.

  • Please help! Installed fonts just stopped showing up in CS4 MAC, how do i get them back?

    Hi there,
    I'm on a MacBook Pro running OS X 10.6.8
still on Adobe CS4, i initially had problems getting CS4 to see my installed fonts when upgraded to Snow Lepoard, googled the problem, tried several different things for hours - something worked not sure what exactly but CS4 started seeing all of my installed fonts.
Now all of a sudden, they are not showing up again, i have not downloaded anything, installed anything, moved anything - were all there and working last week, and then this week they are not.
I have 1060 fonts installed - work for an agency with hundreds of different clients so need a lot of fonts. Am not using any font manager - just fontbook, is that the issue? all 1060 fonts are showing up as installed in Fontbook....
I have some fonts in HD>library>fonts, and also fonts in user>library>fonts, could this be the issue? is it best to have them in just one place? if so which folder is best to have all fonts in?
I know indesign has its own font folder - which is now where it seems to be reading fonts from, and illustrator is reading its fonts from somewhere else - only about 30-40 are showing up there, system fonts folder i'm guessing?
How can i get indesign and illustrator to read fonts from my actual font libraries?
any help is much appreciated! Our graphic design team of 2 are the only ones on macs so all our IT support guys are PC based and never know anything on how to fix mac issues so i'm on my own with this issue!
    Thanks
    Mel

If you are managing fonts with font book, then all should be well. Something else is going on. Try installing Onyx and use that to delete all your caches including your font cache. You willl need to restart your computer after clearing your caches.

  • HELP! - Installing Fonts

I'm having trouble installing some fonts for an InDesign CS2 file. It's the ITC Garamond family and to be honest, I've never had to install fonts before so am not sure i'm even doing it right the first time. I have ATM Deluxe but it doesn't seem to be working. How do I do this...do I install them through ATM or do I just copy them into the InDesign Fonts folder?? What concerns me is that when I look at the font files, they appear as "unknown file types". I think that the original designer who put the fonts on the disc worked on a Mac...would that make a difference? Please help! Thanks.

    That's correct.
You say you copied these OpenType fonts to C:\...\Adobe InDesign CS4\Fonts. They should be available to ID from there. Some fonts don't appear in the lists the alphabetical order you expect (They get sorted by language family and by typeface family), but that shouldn't affect find font or the missing fonts warning. You really copied these files, not just a shortcut to some removeable media that you removed?
What happens if instead of putting them into the private fonts folder you open Windows' fonts folder and File > Install New Font... and navigate to where they are stored in the package?

  • Help! forgot how to install fonts

I forgot how to install fonts in 10.3.9. Using Fontbook 1.0.2. The Help files tell me to open Fontbook>File>install. My Version shows File>add fonts. Doesn't do it. Can I still drag fonts to closed fonts folder?
Since the fonts were sent e-mail by a client to use on the job, unzipping gave me little black screen icons (look like little, tiny gray screens with OSX in the corner). Is this why they won't work? Did zipping them corrupt them?
    Any help would be appreciated!
    Thanks,
    astromonkey

    hi,
i had this same scenario before.
unzipping gave you little black screen icons? you can try adding extensions to their file names like the usual fonts.
or do they have 0kb size? if then, something went wrong in the zipping process.
    hope this helps

PS CS6 has a different set of installed fonts than my old PS CS4.  How do I get my old fonts back?  Don't like most of the newer CS6 fonts.  Dell Precision, Windows 7.  Does PS use the fonts in the Windows directory or does it use its own?  If so, where are they in the directory?  A lot of my preferred fonts show in the Windows directory but not in Photoshop, which does not display them within the program.  Please help.  If I get free fonts (NOT CC fonts) from elsewhere, where do I put them for Photoshop[ CS6 to use them?  Thanks.

All versions of Photoshop get their fonts from your OS.  Just install any missing font wherever Windows keeps fonts.
    I don't do windows myself.

  • How to install Fonts into Adobe Illustrator

I am using a computer that runs on Snow Leopard 10.6.8
Hi there I want to know  how to install new Fonts / Typefaces into Adobe Illustrator CS3?
I am also curious as to how I would install fonts on other Adobe CS applications?
All help, links, and resources much appreciated.

I just dragged and dropped the downloaded ".tff" font files into in Font Book icon in theDock and a new window popped up and just click "Install Font" button.
That works, too. Sets are, more than anything else, just a way to organize your fonts by project. By dropping the font in, it should now be listed in one of the standard headings like "Computer".
The new fonts have automatically loaded into Adobe Illustrator CS3 without having to close it.
Better apps will see when fonts have been enabled or disabled without having to close and restart them. Microsoft Word (and likely the entire Office suite) does not.

  • How to install fonts in indesign cs5 mac

My designer sent me some fonts for a document they created for me, but I have been unable to figure out how to install the fonts. Google search and adobe search and still I am not able to figure this out. I am using macintosh os 10.64.
    Can someone provide any guidance?

If you've already searched Google for something like "install fonts on mac 10.6" and have followed the instructions on the first link (under "Locations where fonts can be stored") then you'll have to post more details for us to help you. For example:
Which fonts are they? (Not all fonts can be used by a Mac, like Type 1 fonts for Windows. Give us the complete name of the font, hopefully with a file extension.)
How do you know they are missing? (Sure, when you open up the document it gives you a missing font warning, but it might just be a font naming problem, like InDesign is looking for "Helvetica Neue LE Regular" and your font is called "Helvetica Neue Regular." You can use Find Font under the Type menu to find & replace if necessary. If you don't see the missing font warning when you open the file, how do you know the fonts are missing?)
Where have you tried to install them? (There's quite a few places to install a font on a Mac; have you tried any of them? It's worth pointing out that installing multiple copies of fonts in multiple locations can cause fonts to not be read in some circumstances.)
What version of InDesign are you using? (If it's CS5 and there's a "Document Fonts" folder in the same folder as the InDesign document you're trying to open, then InDesign is supposed to be able to read them, but sometimes it borks up and you have to move or delete the Document Fonts folder in order to get it to work.)
and there are other minor possibilities like
What languages are the fonts supposed to support? (InDesign puts its Chinese, Arabic etc. fonts all the way at the bottom of its window)
    and
Are you sure that the fonts aren't damaged? (What size are the files? Are they still in a zipped folder? Maybe they were broken when you downloaded them from your email.)
    et cetera

How do you install fonts from the net as the windows installer will only install them onto Word and I want them in PSE10

    >windows installer
1-Windows puts fonts in a common fonts folder... which makes the fonts available to ALL software... at least if they are "correct" fonts (such as TrueType)

  • IC WebClient - Install Font Types Mail Forms

    Dear All,
I hope you experts can help me out with the following issue:
With the IC_MANAGER business role it's possible to create/maintain mail forms. To do this, go to "Knowledge Management" in the left menu and after that select Mail Forms.
In here you can maintain your mail forms. I want to extend the font types. Now I only have the font types: Times New Roman, Arial and Courier. I want to extend thist list with 'Verdana'.
Does anybody know how this works?
    Kind regards,
    Maarten

    Hello Maarten,
    1. Upload the TrueType font through transaction SE73 in the backend system.
    2. Maintain the table TBTFFONTMAP throught transaction SM30
Logon to the webclient and you should be able to use the newly installed font.

I have installed fonts that are not showing up in PSE 11.  Any suggestions?  It's driving me crazy!!

It's weird because I also installed Wanderlust Letters Regular, which shows up just fine.

  • Installing Fonts

Re my previous post - Character Spacing Gone Wrong - which no one seems to be able to help me with . I have decided to try and re-install the fonts that are going wrong , namely Georgia, Times New Roman and Verdana... can anyone tell me how to re-install these fonts on my imac ? Thanks in anticipation .... hoping this fixes my previous problem...

To install fonts on a Mac you have to double-click the font file to open it in a preview window.
    Then click the install button.
The fonts are installed in the /System/Library/Fonts/ folder.
You have to get the fonts first.
Here's a way to get your fonts:

  • OK to delete fonts the pre-installed fonts?

I've recently got myself a new 24" iMac. I use it for graphic design.
One thing I'm not sure about is which fonts are ok to delete. I seem to have hundreds of fonts that were pre-installed which I will never ever use.
Is it ok to delete any of these fonts or does the Mac need them for running certain applications?
I just ideally would like to have only the fonts I have purchased to show up in my font menu in InDesign and Illustrator. Having hundreds of useless fonts is a tad annoying
Any pointers would be appreciated. Thanks.

OS X does not install hundreds of fonts. The fonts located in the /System/Library/Fonts/ folder should be untouched. Fonts you have installed should be located in the /Home/Library/Fonts/ folder, and any of them can be deleted. Some applications may install fonts in the /Library/Fonts/ folder. These should be left alone unless you know they are not required by any of your installed applications.
Note that managing fonts is exactly what Font Book is intended for. You might consider learning how to use it. Open the application and select Font Book Help from the Help menu to obtain information on its usage.

  • Installing Fonts on CS3

I am so lost; Can someone please tell me how to install downloaded fonts into CS3, I have already extracted them, but for some reason they wont appear in photoshop?

You don't install fonts into CS3. You install them into your operating
system, and then they're available to all applications, including
Adobe's as well as everything else you've installed. See your
operating system documentation or help file or use a google search,
for the specific version of Windows, Mac, Linux, or any other.
