Help installing mSATA to new T430s

Question

New Lenovo T430s.
What I Did:
After booting up computer and making sure everything works (e.g., Internet), I used Rescue & Recovery to create both "Bootable" and "Data Media" via a Cruzer USB Flash Drive.  This took a little bit of time.  Not sure if I, or the system, did this.. but a screen came up, "Map Network Drive".  I cancelled this last screen.
I installed my mSATA drive. I leave my original HDD in.  I then insert the USB into my computer, and rebooted, but my computer proceeded to go to Windows, normally.  In Windows, under "My Computer", the mSATA drive does not show up.  However, the USB drive shows up as F: , and there is E:\U3 System.  The F: shows only only 2.6GB free out of 14.9GB, with folders "Boot" and "factoryrecovery"
I try re-ordering boot setup multiple times.  This includes multiple reboots and trying "Enter" or "F1" etc. Just always goes to Windows.  I google "USB boot disk not working with Lenovo System Recovery" probably 20 different ways, but can't seem to find anything.
In exasperation, I finally hit F1 multiple times I think, and I come to some sort of System Recover screen.  I click on "Product Recovery" and "Factory Install".  I believe those are the options. I never get an option for *where* to install the system recovery, and the Computer appears to have reinstalled it on my original HDD!
Windows then boots up again... and I re-enter computer name, password.. skip the Norton anti-virus etc.  Deja Vu (as I just botted up computer for first time 2 hours ago).  I go to mycomputer... and see windows7 installed on the main 500GB HDD.. the lenovo recovery Q:.. and now for Cruzer i see G: u3 and the flash drive shows up in D:
I restart.  The Flash USB is still in my USB drive (the left one).  Computer boots to windows.
I restart.  I press F1.  I go to set-up.  Following settings are enabled
- Network Boot: USB CD: Sandisk
- UEFI/Legacy Boot: Both
- UEFI/Legacy Boot Priority: Legacy First
- Boot Mode: Quick
- Option key display: enabled
- boot device list F12 option: Enabled
- Boot Order Lock: Disabled
I go to "Boot" options and the order is:
USB HDD: SanDisk SanDisk Cruzer
USB CD: SanDisk SanDisk Cruzer 1
USB FDD
ATAPI CD0: MAT**bleep**ADVD-RAM UJ8B2
ATA HDD0: HITACHI HTS7....
ATA HDD1:
ATA HDD2: M4-CT256M4SSD3
PCI Lan: IBA GE Slot
I go to "Network Boot" options and the order is:
USB CD: SanDisk SanDisk Cruzer 1
USB FDD
ATAPI CD0: MAT**bleep**ADVD-RAM UJ8B2
ATA HDD0: HITACHI HTS7....
ATA HDD1:
ATA HDD2: M4-CT256M4SSD3
USB HDD: SanDisk SanDisk Cruzer
PCI Lan: IBA GE Slot
I exit, and computer reboots. to Windows.  
This time I enter Safe Mode by pressing F8 continuously.
Aha!  This is how I must have gotten Lenovo Rescue Rovery to come!
I click on "Repair My Computer"
After giving password etc., the following options are available:
Startup Repair, System Restore, System Image Recovery, Windows Memory Diagnostic, COmmand Prompt, Lenovo Product Recovery.
The last go around I selected Lenovo PRoduct Recovery.  I select it again.
I keep on clicking until I get to screen "Product Recovery, if you click yes, data will be lost and system will be recovered to selected state"
This time I click no...
I reboot.  To windows again.  I reboot.  This time I press F12 during setup.  I have 5 different boot options:  USB HDD, USB CD, Atapi CDO, ATA HDD0 and ATA HDD2. I press enter on USB CD.  screen goes black for 1/2 sec, but then comes back to same screen.   I press enter on USB HDD.  Screen goes black for a 1/2 sec and then comes back to same screen. I do ATA HDD0 (my original Windows drive) and the computer boots to Windows.
OK.. now i go to Control Panel, Admin Tools, Disc Management.  I add Disk1 (the mSATA) as a Basic Disc, formated as Master Boot Record.  It is described as a 238GB, unallocated.  This does not show up as a drive with a letter/volume.  I do not create a "new simple volume" with it.
I restart my computer, with USB drive still plugged in.  Computer boots to Windows.
Unfortunately I must leave town for travel for a couple of days now, and can't take the laptop with me to figure out what the problem is.
Sigh!   I suck!

How about "select partition 1" and "active"?
I'd stay away from the Cruzer.  You may be able to create another set of media using this trick.  I'm not sure if it still works with your machine.
Boot Media
Another thing I'd like to try but haven't: create another bootable USB flash drive using that link I posted up-thread.  It will be blank.  Then make sure you have all the "visibility" options selected for the drive with the recovery image (don't hide system files, etc) and copy the contents of the recovery drive that won't boot to the newly prepared drive.  Does that make any sense?
This kind of thing works for the Win 7 install DVD files.  Just copying them to a properly-prepared flash drive will generate a usable install USB drive.  I've done it many times. It _might_ work with the Lenovo media. Maybe...
