Help!! Intermittent display problem. I am going crazy! Please Help!

Hi, I have an iMac 64 flat panel that is about 2 years old. It is the 800 Mhz model and I am running system 10.3.9.
The problem started the last couple of months when the computer would not wake from sleep mode. I would have to hold the power key and restart the computer. This got worse so I just shut it down between use and it started up fine. The computer would chime on, the hard drive would run, the CD tray would open and close but I had no display.
Two weeks ago the computer display would not come on. I would have to hold the power key again and restart it several times before the display would eventually come on.
I brought it to the local Apple store and saw a Mac genius. Of course it powered right up, display and all. They kept it a week and told me they could not replicate the problem. They told me to buy a new surge protector and try another outlet. I run an iBook G4 without any problem from that location and outlet also.
I took the iMac home, bought a new surge protector and it worked great…. for a day. Then the same problems occurred and even worse. I could not get the computer to display on even after restarting 10 times last night! I let it sit an hour and it powered on fine.
I turned the sleep mode off for the display and the hard drive off once I was able to get it back on and let it sit over night. I shut it down and restated and the display did not come on. I held the power key again and restarted and it started up fine.
I have not installed any new software either.
I am really confused. I would like to have this fixed but I don’t know why it is doing this.
Any ideas?
Thanks so much.

With only a quick look, could the square bracket be the compile problem?

  • IPhone display is acting strange, going crazy!

    Hey guys,
I have a pretty big issue with my iPhone 4. I bought it more than a year ago, therefore it cant be neither repaired nor replaced with the Apple warranty. The issue I noticed is that while I dont touch my phone, it seems to do strange things. The display somehow lives its own life. I don't have to touch the phone for it to switch to iPod mode, camera mode, sometimes contacts. It's really frustrating because the phone without me even realizing sometimes calls my contacts. I always kept it in a rubber case, and never have I dropped it to the ground. So I definitely dont think I'm the one to be blamed, and Apple will not repair or replace the phone since it's not under warranty. I tried updating the software, but that doesnt help either.
Do you have any advice, what I could do with the phone in order to get rid of this issue? Is there anything I can do? Please let me know as its very frustrating to use this messed up device.
I'm definitely hoping for some help from you Apple fans.
    Best regards,

If you have restored iPhone Firmware, and the problem still is present, then there are two likely possibilities. First is faulty Digitizer, requiring entire new front screen assembly. Other is the power management circuitry is causing surges within iPhone effecting Digitizer. If this was my iPhone I would seriously consider buying new phone. If you want, Apple Store fix, would be Replacement iPhone 4 exactly same as yours for $149.

My new Intel imac crashes a few minutes after booting up. Im still able to move my mouse arrow around, but everything has frozen. I cant click on anything. I tried all the diskutility checks, but to no help. When I start safari before the mac freezes safari shuts down when I try to scroll. The problem started when I tried to convert a powerpoint file to a pdf file. Another problem I have been having for a long time is that the mac goes to sleep two three times after waking up. I dont have to do a complete restart, but I do have to press the power button and hit my keyboard. Any tips

  • Display problems in Mail messages with image attachment

Issue: Seeing intermittent display problems in Mail messages with image attachments
Annoyance level: minor, but Apple techs need to pass it along
Details: Regardless of mail client sending to iPhone (Outlook, OWA, Yahoo, Gmail) there are intermittent and what appear to be random occurrances of the pic being half rendered and/or the pic never loading (followed by message saying it can't be retrieved from server). In some instances the picture then appears fully rendered without a problem. Note: Image sizes varied from 14KB to 450KB

    Hi,
I'm not familiar with C#, but if possible try the following:
    1. Removing all thead and tbody tags from the body of the message.
    2. Changing all inline CSS to embedded CSS.
I've seen a user said the message stopped showing up after making the changes.
If the issue persists, please note, since Outlook 2007, Outlook opens the HTML Email and converts it to Microsoft Word format before displaying it to the user. What happens during this process is that many CSS attributes and HTML support is completely removed.
Some of the most notable absences are background-image, and padding and margin support. Hardly can we do much about this, so the message "If there are problems with how this email is displayed, click here to view it in a web browser" is actually
a good workaround when we face this problem.

  • Scroll bar goes crazy and active window jumps around in size - Help

I've got iTunes 7.0.5 installed. If I use iTunes for any length of time, my system goes crazy. The scroll bar on whatever program I make active goes up and down like mad, while the content of the active window shrinks and magnifies in size multiple times a second. It's very bizarre and consistently happens only when I run iTunes for some length of time. I have no problem if I choose Windows Media Player. It's very disturbing, as I can no longer use iTunes. Any help in knowing how to fix the problem, or even to trouble shoot it further, would be greatly appreciated.

Here are a couple of thoughts on the Timeline scrolling and other possible display issues:
1.) make sure that you have the very latest video driver - the very latest
2,) if you have Vista, turn Aero and Sidebar off
3.) if you have Window Blinds, get the very latest version
4.) if you have an InteliPoint mouse driver, try removing it, and using the standard Windows mouse driver instead*
5.) if you have a laptop and both the touch-pad and a mouse are installed and ON, turn the touch-pad OFF
These are some suggestions that might affect your display issues.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
    * The MS InteliPoint has caused many display issues with Adobe products. Most often, these have manifested themselves in flashing GUI's and similar, but other odd behaviors have been experienced. If the removal of InteliPoint does help, try the very latest version, but be ready to revert to the standard Windows mouse driver.

  • My black berry tour 9300 is going crazy help ASAP!

I went away for a week and the second day my phone started going crazy. It would freeze and type in huhuhuhuhuhuhuhu until the whole thing was filled with it and when i try to type "hahahaha" it ends up like this "huahuahuahua" i first thought that maybe i got sand in it so i brought that air duster you use for keyboards on computers it helped a little but its still freezing i still cant type in words or use my key board or my enter button, end button, and menu button. What can i do? it also took my pictures and deleted them. HELP ME PLEASE!!!

It sounds like what I have seen multiple times on a device with moisture damage.
Even sitting on a bathroom counter during a hot steamy shower or bath can cause keyboard and trackball problems UNTIL properly dried out.
It really is more common than you think.
    1. Remove the battery immediately!! Do not attempt to turn on your BlackBerry.
    2. Let the device dry in a warm, dry place for 3 to 5 days* (see below)
    3. DO NOT "check it each day" by placing the battery in. Leave it be to dry completely. This takes time. Replacing the battery to check it can only damage it more (moisture + electrical current = disaster).
    3. If the device is warm after the drying period, allow it to cool to room temperature before placing the battery back in.
*Suggestions on drying your BlackBerry in a warm place (open, with the battery out):
Place the BB in a container of dry UNcooked rice, and then you might also place it in any of the locations mentioned below.
On top of any dry heat emitting electronic component: TV cabinet or CRT, LCD, cable TV/Satellite converter box or plasma monitor
On the dashboard of your car on a sunny day

  • My display has gone crazy, please help!!!

Well folks, you can count me in as another victim of the "checkered/blocked" display problem. It suddenly came up just a few hours ago and I,m going crazy. Have been reading some of the posts and Apple should definitely look further on this issue since it's affecting a considerable number of users. I,m not clear if my system is covered under Apple's Extension Program. My S/N begins with W8526xxxxxxx, please help us Apple.

    Hi Chasnufa!
Basically your screen looks like an old-fashioned TV test card with blocks all over it? That happened to my imac G5 when I had only had it a short while back in 2005. I had just switched to mac and was devastated. When I rang Apple they said it was the logic board which is the most expensive part to replace apparently. I had it fixed under Applecare. I would find out if you can get it fixed under the Apple program as now it is a known fault with these models. Here is a link to the page Apple have set up about the extended repair program, it does look like your model could be one of the affected ones:

My macbook seems to be going crazy. At certain points (and for hours) I get the oh snap page on chrome, safari doesnt work, macbook wont let me create any files or for example upload music to itunes. I restored my mac so im sure its not a malware problem. The only thing that solves it is switching off and on , but sometimes I have to do that for 6-7 times before its ok or wait for a few hours. Some help please

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

Guys, my browser is going crazy and every website that I am on changes in about 10 seconds to 2 minutes to another webpage. I even downloaded a newer 5.0 version of firefox and I am having the same problem.

Your System Details are showing Fun Web Products. Suggest you look in Add-ons - Extensions and Plug-ins, and Control Panel>Add/Remove programs or >(newer version) Programs and Features. You could also do a search of your computer.
Fun Web Products(associated with MyWebSearch) always seems to cause problems, Alexa does, too, but less often - there may be conflicts.
I'm not an expert on these two products. I'm afraid I can only alert you to the problems. Google will show you plenty of evidence of problems. You might also try the Search Firefox Help box above - a gold mine but it usually requires a lot of digging.
You can start Firefox in Safe Mode - Hold Shift Key down as you double click on the Firefox icon>ignore the page that opens>Continue. If that improves things you could do a little troubleshooting(Safe Mode, Problematic extensions etc), use default theme, -

  • My keyboard occasionally goes crazy, not allowing me to type. Also, cursor goes crazy and opens pages and windows at will. Help!

My typing cursor frequently goes crazy, not allowing me to type and jumping from place to place, deleting letters. Suddenly, a line I have typed will be highlighted and deleted at will.  Also, mouse cursor moves at will, opening multiple  pages in seconds. Help!  What could be causing this, and how can I stop it?
I've had my Macbook pro for over a year and it has never done this before. Restarting the computer fixes the problem temporarily.

My first thought was the hard drive and OS has a built in Sudden Motion Sensor whcih will stop the hard drive heads from crashing into the platters when the computer is moved suddenly. This does work most of the time and could cause some of the tings you are seeing.
But then after reading more of your first post it seems your system and drive is doing some very strange things.
It would be best to first take it into an Apple Genius Bar and have it looked at. They can run tests on it and since it is still in the original 1 year warranty this should not cost you anything even if something needs to be replaced.
You can also run the Apple Hardware Test on it your self by connecting it to the Net by Ethernet cable and booting holding down the d key or the Command+d keys. That will boot the computer from the Apple internet servers and load the AHT.
    Good Luck.
