Help - iPad sync has wiped my desktop Safari bookmarks bar

Can someone please tell me how I can 'unsync' to restore my desktop Safari bookmarks bar? My wife connected her iPad to my desktop iMac while I was out, and my valuable bookmark bar has been replaced with the one she had on her iPad

I don't sync bookmarks so I don't know for sure how it would work - but logical reasoning says that if you have Safari bookmarks selected to sync from the Mac to the iPad and back - then if the bookmarks bar that you want to go back to is on your iPad - then sync your iPad to replace what she has done.
What about a Time Machine Backup - any chance you use Time Machine? I guess that would be too easy.
I dont know if this would be of any help at all but I found this thread - but you would have to have the bookmarks bar on your iPad the way you want it on the desktop or this will not work.

AFAIK - you cannot "unsync" what your wife has done.

  • HELP mac syncing has wiped contacts/calender on blackberry

Can anyone help restore the information? I never had this problem on my pc - is this a mac fault? THANK YOU!

Hello zoekettel1 and welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.
Did you do a backup of your data prior to doing the sync?
Was this your first sync? If so, when the pop up came up to merge the data or replace the device contents with the Mac contents, do you recall what option you selected?
Does your Mac Address Book and iCal have your information or are they blank? If they have the data, what happens when you go to sync now?

  • Lost "Home" icon above Safari bookmarks bar

The "Home" icon in Safari on my wife's MiniMac (OS 10.4.5) has suddenly disappeared. The icon is a small house and is normally shown just above the Safari bookmarks bar, on the left, next to the forward and back URL buttons. Using Safari's Help page has not produced a solution.
Can anyone help me restore this feature?

    Grant,
Use Safari>View>Customize Address Bar...>Drag your favorite item into the toolbar...(Home)
    ;~)

  • Why don't I have Safari bookmarks bar on iPad2?

Can Safari bookmarks bar be imported from iMac to Safari on iPad2?

On the iPad's Info tab when connected to your computer's iTunes there should be an option to sync bookmarks from Safari on a Mac or PC (from the manual) :
    Sync bookmarks with your computer:
1  Connect iPad to your computer.
2  In iTunes, select iPad in the sidebar.
3  Click the Info tab, select “Sync Safari bookmarks” under Other, then click Apply.

  • Safari bookmarks bar disappears - even when settings set to display

Not sure if anyone else has this bug, but the bookmarks bar in Safari disappears even after the option is turned on in Settings/Safari.
    Ideas?

Another detail is that I am set to sync bookmarks via MobileMe. That is working fine.

  • How do you sort the safari  "Bookmarks Bar" bookmarks

how do you sort the safari  "Bookmarks Bar" bookmarks

Here is the workaround for sorting your bookmarks - you don't have to do it manually as suggested in the previous answer here. This is from a 2006 page at Hints.Macworld.com
"One thing that bugs me is that there is no option in Safari to alphabetize bookmarks. I had a crazy idea about how to accomplish this, and it seems to work. Hopefully I'm not missing something more obvious.
What I did was open the Bookmarks window (Bookmarks: Show All Bookmarks), put the links I wanted to alphabetize into a folder, and then dragged that folder into the Finder. The Finder alphabetizes the bookmarks; you can then just drag the folder back into the Bookmarks window. You probably have to set the Finder to arrange files by name before it will work. Hope this helps!
[robg adds: When you drag the folder back, you'll now have two folders, the original and the sorted one. Just delete the original, and you're set. You can also do this without first creating a Safari folder. Just select all the bookmarks to be alphabetized, drag them into a new folder in the Finder, open that folder (make sure it's set to sort by name or use column view), then drag the now-sorted bookmarks back into Safari's Bookmarks window. Again, you'll have duplicates, so just delete the originals (which will be grouped above the newly-placed list). I wonder if any of this is scriptable...]"
If you're like me and you like to keep all of your bookmarks in folders in the Bookmarks bar, then from the Bookmarks window you would open the Bookmarks Bar in a window of its own before doing the above.

  • How can I get my iMac Firefox bookmarks into my iPad? When I sync my iPad it only moves the old Safari bookmarks.

My desk-top is an iMac G5. I use the Firefox brouser exclusively on it and have for a number of years. I now have an iPad [#1] but it only has Safari as a brouser. When I "Sync" my iPad with my iMac it brings my "old" Safari bookmarks list to the iPad. I cannot find a way to get my "everyday" Firefox bookmarks list into the iPad? What do I have to do??

    1. for your desktop <br />

    2. get the '''FirefoxHome''' App for the iPad from the App Store

  • IPhone sync alters desktop Safari bookmarks instead of copying unaltered?

I'm still using my iPhone 4 (I know, I know. . .) and in the past, my sync process has always simply copied whatever is current on my MacMini Pro desktop as a clone of that data to the phone. Just the other day, I deleted a folder of Safari bookmarks on my phone that I didn't want cluttering up my phone's browser, but a folder that I DO wish to keep on my desktop. Upon syncing, the desktop's bookmarks were altered to match the iPhone. I lost the most current version of that particular folder containing many Favorite sites, unfortunately.
I thought the iPhone was always a downstream servant to the desktop, but apparently not. I would like to force it to be that way if that is possible and learn how to turn off the flow of instructions from the phone to the desktop. Sorry if this is an obvious control tweak, but I was caught off guard by this.
    Thanks!

  • Firefox sync has wiped all my data!!!

My laptop's disk crashed, so I've just installed a new one, and thought "OK great, I have Firefox Sync, it'll have my passwords and bookmarks saved". Did it hell!? I used to use a plugin for syncing my passwords and bookmarks, which worked beautifully, but it stopped running after Sync came out. Now Firefox Sync has seemed to have deleted ALL of my bookmarks and passwords because I did not have a "sync key". How do I request my data to be restored? There was a LOT of information stored in there that I NEED! Please can somebody provide me with a solution, I'm happy to pay an admin fee or whatever it is just to restore this information.
    - Justin

    Hi JustinN,
I'm sorry to read that you had issues with your hard drive and that it caused a reset of your Sync account.
Unfortunately Sync is not a back-up system and it's main purpose is to synchronize your data across devices not to store it. To ensure this is done in a secure way the system uses a [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/where-can-i-find-my-firefox-sync-key#w_what-is-the-sync-key-used-for key] that you only know. It's vital that you keep a copy (i.e. a back up) of this key to ensure that you would have access if anything happens to your main device (i.e. your laptop).
Once you have reset your account you have literally deleted all the information under the previous key. This is performed for security reasons, to avoid anyone accessing your private date, and it can't be undone.
I'll encourage you to back up all your important information either in a cloud service or in a different physical device (i.e. dvds, portable hard-drives, etc).

  • Sync has lost some of my bookmarks (the important ones)

My worst nightmare! Your sync account. Lost my important bookmarks. After I unpaired the device, deleted a bookmark directory and guess what. It also disappeared on my main computer. Now I want it back but can't access the sync account. Don't dare to pair any f..... device but seems I have to to try and at least get that important directory back.

First, copy your bookmark backups to a safe location since they gradually age out. Do this on both computers just in case.
This will open your active Firefox settings (profile) folder:
Help > Troubleshooting Information > "Show Folder"
Look for the bookmarkbackups folder. It should contain numerous dated files with a .json extension.
Copy those to a safe location (e.g, copy the entire folder to the desktop).
You can restore any of those backups, but please note that they will completely replace whatever bookmarks you currently have on your menu.
To restore backups, see this article: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/back-up-bookmarks-or-move-them-to-another-computer#w_restoring-from-backups
You might need to go back a few days until you find the ones you're missing.
If you want to save your current bookmarks in an alternate format so you can restore them as a separate folder and salvage individual items, check out this feature: [[Export Firefox bookmarks to an HTML file to back up or transfer bookmarks]] and [[Import Bookmarks from an HTML file]].
    Can you get everything back?

  • Syncing iCal, Address Book and Safari Bookmarks via AirPort Extreme?

Does anyone know of a way to keep iCal, Address Book and Safari Bookmarks in sync across three Macs that are connected via AirPort Extreme? I don't want to use MobilMe at this time.
Thanks for any help or suggestions.
    Frank

    Hey, Lehmann:
You need a server to process the information being sent out by your Macs. The server is what will determine which machines need what information, and will initiate the transfer. The Airport Extreme can't be this server as it only contains the functionality of a router. Most developers opt to develop WAN-based syncing (ie, MobileMe, Exchange, etc.) because LAN would be covered under that umbrella, so it's two for the price of one (I also think syncing over WAN is more convenient and more often the desired solution).
I don't know of any LAN-based syncing solutions (ie, one that would turn one of your computers into the server to process the data and manage the syncing), but I can at least give you some of the tech language to help define what you're looking for and help your search.
Can I ask why you want to keep the syncing server local? Is it a security concern? I love MobileMe and would highly recommend it unless there is a need for military-level security.

  • How to Sync Address Book, iCal and Safari bookmarks with Blackberry Storm

I recently purchased a Blackberry Storm and have been trying to sync my Address Book, iCal and Safari bookmarks without any luck. I downloaded the PocketMac SyncManager from BlackBerry but the sync fails when I connect the Storm to my MacBook Pro. Any suggestions as to how one gets this to work?

  • How do I delete safari bookmarks bar?

In Safari on my ipod touch, when I go to bookmarks I have Bookmarks Bar at the top, and then other folders and bookmarks. When I hit edit to delete bookmarks, it won't let me delete bookmarks bar. How do I get rid of it? I think I chose sync bookmarks with safari at one time but now I'd rather not and I have it unchecked but it still won't go away.

    You've tried:
Edit a bookmark or bookmark folder: Tap , choose the folder that has the
bookmark or folder you want to edit, then tap Edit. Then do one of the following:
To make a new folder, tap New Folder.
To delete a bookmark or folder, tap the red minus sign icon, then tap Delete.
To reposition a bookmark or folder, drag the 3 horizontal lines icon.
To edit the name or address, or to put it in a different folder, tap the bookmark or folder.
    When you’re finished, tap Done.
    or
    Sync bookmarks with your computer:
1 Connect iPod touch to your computer.
2 In iTunes, select iPod touch in the sidebar.
3 Click the Info tab, select “Sync … bookmarks” under Web Browser, then click Apply.
... and then deselect “Sync … bookmarks” under Web Browser, and then click Apply.

  • A workaround to eliminate Safari "Bookmarks Bar"

If you sync your bookmarks with your PC based Safari, you get the folders "bookmarks bar" and "bookmarks" on your iPhone. Unnecessary and cluttering, they do not have a "delete" button, nor can they be eliminated from Safari. Annoying. In addition, any bookmarks saved on the iPhone that are not in a folder get saved back on Safari as a folder, not a bookmark. Equally annoying.
To return to sanity, I sync'ed with a blank Explorer browser, so the offending folders were created there from iPhone. In Explorer I could eliminate the folders and after sycing again, they were now eliminated from the iPhone, freeing up valuable real estate.
Hope this helps anyone with a similar circumstance.

Load a site and then drag the image to the left of the address to the toolbar, or choose Add Bookmark from the Bookmarks menu.
