HELP!! iPhone 4s wont receive or send calls, SMS text, iMessage

     So right before the update came out my iPhone 4s started acting funny with texts. All I had to do was turn my iMessage off. However, when I got the update everything went downhill. My iMessage wouldn't stay off so texts wouldn't come in or send. My service was perfectly fine, but the message would "get stuck" so to speak...it would show it's sending the message, but right at the end it would just stop then eventually not send at all, even a regular SMS message. Also, I wouldn't get texts until like hours later and all at the same time.
     I got so frustrated with it that I took it into a Verizon store a couple days ago and they told me to completely reset it and then restore it. I did and it didn't work. So I went back in the next day and since I'm covered he ordered me a new replacement 4s. That one took forever to activate and when I restored it from my old iPhone it worked for a minute then stopped. So I went back in and stayed in there for THREE HOURS trying to figure it out.
     The Verizon guy ended up making it worse because now my phone has no service or the 1X service. I don't know what 1X is, but whenever my phone is on that I can't do anything - no calls, texts, or internet. So they did another factory reset on that phone and I didn't restore my old info on it because I thought maybe that was the problem. Nope, it did the same thing.
     The guy "helping" me at Verizon told me I just needed to get one of the 5's but I don't have an upgrade for a year. Of course he just wanted to sell me something. I said no because they should be able to fix my 4s because I know a lot of people who have a 4s with the update with Verizon that aren't having a problem. So they called customer service and a lady tried to help us, but I was so tired I just went home when she said to factory reset it yet again.
     So I have no idea what to do at this point, but I'm very frustrated and I need it fixed ASAP.
     Does anyone know how to help?!?!?!?

    Oh my goodness, mstarnes! I'm sorry you are going through this with your phone. I agree, let's see what needs to be done to fix this instead of pushing you for an upgrade.
I know you were tired, but did you attempt another reset? Is the phone activated and working at this point? If not, send me a message so we can figure this out.

    try easy first.  if pre paid make sure you have not ran out of date,might need top up.  if on contract check with your provider to see if they have stopped your account, if all fails ring apple

    Try rebooting the phone by pressing and holding the on/off and home buttons simultaneously until the screen goes blank and you see the apple logo. It should take about 10-15 seconds to reboot.

    Your computer and iPhone 4 are two seperate elements really using different connections.
    i.e your computer will probably use your router to connect to the internet where as your iphone uses your mobile phone carrier to send and receive texts and calls.
    So its pretty difficult to judge how they can effect each other. You try resetting your router, but ive never heard of anything like this happening before...

    Sounds like the software could be corrupt, how is hard reset dramatic?
    It is either hardware or software, you won't know until you eliminate one.

Online I found a discussion that stated i needed to delete contact and re-add. I have done that to no avail. Any ideas?

    I had the same issue with the iPhone 6 and tried everything!  I now understand that at some point I stored a number for a contact without including the area code and sent a text message.  So, to correct the issue, you must literally "erase" all references to the contact, not just the number.  Deleting the contact and entering a new one is not enough because the iPhone stores references to that number in multiple places.  The steps below worked and are very simple:
    1) On the contact screen, delete everything stored for that number.  You can't just edit the contact to fix the problem, so write down or record the info somewhere before you complete this step.  Choose edit and then select DELETE to eliminate the entire contact which means home, work, cell, email address, etc.
    2) Delete the entire string of messages you sent to that number.  That's every single message...
    3) Now delete the entire string of invalid 2114 messages you received after your text(s) failed.
    4) Finaly, remove the contact from FAVORITES if you saved it that way. 
    5) To validate that all this worked, simply go to the keypad or contact screen and enter the number associated with the contact to verify successful removal.  I used the keypad and dialed to confirm.  If the contact number still shows up, you need to go back and recheck your steps.  Trust me, I had to do this a few times.
    Several posts suggested that you should  reset and turn off your phone.  After following these steps, it was not necessary for me to reset or turn off my device. 
    is there a much faster way to achieve the same results?  Probably, but this was safe for an iPhone novice and may help you avoid inadvertently deleting other contacts or replacing factory settings that you need.

  • Several questions concerning sending bulk SMS texts on a 9300

    Hi, I'm new here and have done the usual thing of checking previous topics using the search facility, but a few things don't seem to have been covered (or if they have the search facility didn't find them)
    1) Why does the 9300 only allow you to send an SMS text message to 100 contacts only? My old 9000 could send to everyone in a group (some of my groups contain 300+ contacts) I've now had to spend almost 2 days re-doing all my groups so that none contain more than a 100 contacts (for example Members A-H, Members I-O and Members P-Z)
    Is there any way around this?
    2) How do I make the 9300 less like an iPhone and more like my old 9000? I hate the way that when you send a text to a group, if several people reply all the replies are grouped together. With the old 9000 each text from each individual was listed seperately, which actually made it easier to know who had replied.
    3) When sending a text to a group, with the 9000 I could see the whole list of recipients, with a red X next to those, who for one reason or another, hadn't received it. With the 9300 I get a red X next to the group name, but not against individuals, so I have no idea who did and who didn't et the message. How do I change the settings so that I do know?

  • Messages are sending as SMS texts instead of iMessages to some contacts

    Hi,
    I have noticed that a couple of my contacts with iPhones that I would normally iMessage to now I can only SMS text to.
    It seems that in both cases, previously I received and iMessage from them and when I replied, it failed so I chose to send it as SMS.
    Now, even, though I have deleted the Message threads, whenever I try and send a Message to them it insists on sending an SMS text instead of an iMessage.
    How can I force it to start sending iMessages instead of SMS messages again to these contacts?

    You may also need to check with those individual receipents regarding the status of their iMessage. The use of iMessage requires an active data connection for both the sender and the receiver. If either is interrupted, it can cause the message to fail. The error could be on their end as well.

    Suddenly my phone will not receive or send email.  It tells me that "data communication cannot be established since a call is currently active"  It is burning the battery like crazy. 

    Drove to the nearest Verizon store after work, not close by either.  Unbelievably simple, he removed all of the gmail info as if it never excisted, put it back in and viola...everything works.   Cancelled my Genuis Bar appt for Monday as all is working.  Why the other Verizon guy couldn't help me over the phone is beyond my comprehension. 
    Thanks for all of your help.  It has been rather stressful especially not being able to swipe credit cards.
    For what it's worth, this fellow told me if I have trouble like this again to eliminate the gmail account on the iphone and install the google app which he said works much better than the email app that came with the phone.
