HELP! Iphone 5 STUCK IN RECOVERY SCREEN!

last night my iphone 5 (6.1.2) randomly froze, it then wouldnt get past the apple logo, so i connected it to my laptop to Restore it (Which Failed) "Unknown Error (-1)" now my iphone is stuck on the recovery logo and doesnt move. I tried disabling the virus protector, deleting host files etc, but nothing seems to work, everytime i attempt to restore it, it gives me the same message.    I dont mind deleting my files etc, but i would rather fix my iphone asap than to take it into an apple store (45min drive) Please help.    Many Thanks...
Danny

ive tried on 2 seperate computers, this is definently a hardware problem im guessing, ive booked an appointment with a genius, lets see what they have to say about it.
Before this message came the phone would randomly crash anyways.
Thanks for your reply though.

  • Help, iPhone 4s stuck in recovery mode

I'm having some trouble with my iPhone 4S. I decided to update my firmware from 5.1.1 to 6 and now my phone is stuck in recovery mode. it's stuck on the screen with the 30-pin connector telling me to plug it into itunes. Whenever I try to update my phone it gets stuck about 2/3 of the way and on itunes the loading bar is stuck at "verifying iphone restore". Is there any way to fix this problem?

Take a look at Apple's guide when iOS fails to update or restore: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808
It may help you. If you regularly backup your phone via iCloud or via iTunes, you'll be able to pick up where you left off.
    Hope that helps a little.

  • Please help, iPhone 5 stuck in recovery mode and will not update.

I tried to update my girlfriend's iPhone 5 (AT&T) from 6.1.2 to 7.0.4 last night and something went wrong so of course I had backed it up so I put the phone into recovery mode and attempted to completely restore it and then restore from back-up (or at least that was my plan) but the problem is that once I got it in recovery mode and started the update it froze mid-update (Not a computer problem, I have a rMBP 2013, 2.3 ghz i7 & 16GB ram) so after about 30 minutes of watching it at the same spot I unplugged it and attempted to start over. Now everytime I attempt to update it it tries to re-download the software and once it gets completely downloaded it says it was corrupted during the download. I have also attempted to download the IPSW manunally and update that way and it now gets partially through the update and throws an error message. I have tried to use tinyumbrella to kick it out of recovery mode and it does not work either. I am out of options, I have no idea what else to do. I aplogize for my ****** grammar and sentence structure I am flustered and haven't taken the time to proofread it.

FIRST, edit your hosts file (which was corrupted by the jailbreak process) and remove any references to gs.apple.com; delete the whole lines and save the file. If you don't know how to do this you will have to get help, and it shows that jailbreaking was a bigger mistake than you thought.
Next, connect to a USB port directly on the computer, not a hub and disconnect all USB devices that consume power or bandwidth (like USB drives).
Put it into DFU mode to restore. With the phone disconnected hold HOME and SLEEP until a black screen appears. Immediately release SLEEP and continue holding HOME. While holding connect to iTunes and continue holding. After a while (perhaps several minutes) iTunes should recognize the phone. When it does release the HOME button and hope for the best.

  • Help, iPhone 3GS stuck in recovery

Whenever I connect to iTunes I get the recovery mode message, so am having to restore the phone. After 10 minutes or so of restoring, I get a message saying "The iPhone cannot be restored, an unknown error occured(1603 or 1604). One thing that occured to me is I am constantly getting the "Power surge on hub port" message whenever I startup the laptop, could this be the problem? I have an appointment to exchange the phone at the nearest apple store which is 20 miles away, but am worried it may not be the phone but my laptop.
    Any help would be appreciated.

1604 and 1603 are actually not very specific. they kinda go under the category of "everything else"
notice how the repair optionsa re very general.
when i had battery issues with my phone (the battery was out of place therefore it would not turn on unless it was plugged in, and i told me to restore with itunes) it gave me error message 1604 because my iphone wouldnt reboot during the restore process and itunes didnt know why, so it put it under 1604. i ended up having to remove and then putting the battery back in manually after genius bar told me they couldnt fix it.
No hate towards apple though, love their products. hopefully all goes well.

  • Help Please!!! Iphone 4s stuck in recovery mode

My iphone is stuck in recovery mode. I have tried restoring it four times, and each time it appears to be successful rebooting the apple logo but then it returns to the recovery mode screen. My home button broke the day before. I don't know if that is possibly related. Any advice would help. I don't really have time to run to an apple store right now as they are far away from me.

Since your home button is broken, you will either have to "run to an Apple Store" when you have time, or visit an Authorized Apple Service Center if that is more convenient.

  • My iphone is stuck in recovery mode and itunes will not recognize my phone. I've tried pretty much every trick i can and i still do not know what to do. Someone please help me

My iphone is stuck in recovery mode and itunes will not recognize my phone. I've tried pretty much every trick i can and i still do not know what to do. Someone please help me

I've done all of these, even trying a different USB port, and still, nothing. This is really confusing. Windows 8.1 said something to do with USB malfunction or something and nothing works. I need to restore my iPhone quickly and nothing has happened. My cable is not genuine Apple product. iTunes makes the noise that it makes when I connect the device, but it doesn't say 'iPhone is in recovery mode' or even say 'iPhone' in the corner. I am really fed up and would really appreciate a response.
    Thanks,
    Nathan.

  • IPhone 6 stuck in red screen starting loop and won't restore.

Ok, so i've been using my iPhone 6 happily since release day, the only problem I had was a flickering white line at the bottom of the screen while browsing certain webpages and using certain apps. It got to the stage where it was annoying me enough to make me contact apple support. The advisor told me to reset my settings and that should fix the problem... It didn't, it has just made things a whole lot worse! My phone failed to restart after resetting my settings, and has been stuck in a startup loop ending with a red screen for about an hour now. I tried a hard reset with no luck, and now I've just tried restoring it using iTunes, but the restore process says it will take 25 HOURS! ..After about five minutes, and while still connected to iTunes, my phone started going back through the red screen loop and the restore looks like it won't do anything. Please help! I tried to contact apple live chat again, but conveniently it's not available at this moment...
    Cheers,
    Matt

yes, just to say a big thank you to Apple ...realizing today while browsing these forums that I haven't been the only one. Happened to me when I updated from 8.1.2 to 8.1.3 OTA... device (iPhone 4s) stuck in recovery mode ... how nice, this has never ever happened to me after years of using iOS, whether I updated OTA or via iTunes, never. I was then delighted to experience the restore process ... wasted hours doing that thanks again ! (I have many apps and a big backup so...). Seriously, this is unacceptable.

  • IPhone 3gs stuck in recovery mode, firmware iO 5

My iPhone is stuck in recovery mode. I have a 3gs, firmware 5.0.
Before I tried to restore it, my iPhone would randomly shut off, turn back on, and display a notification that said "Activation Required." Now, sometimes my phone would shut off again and return to it's previous working state. However, this time it did not. I put the phone into recovery mode and tried restoring it on my Acer Aspire 1 with Windows 7. iTunes put the phone through the various stages of restoration; Extracting Software, Preparing iPhone for Restore, Restoring Software, Verifying Restore, Restoring Firmware. After all of this, a nice little error message pops up that reads, "The iPhone 'iPhone' could not be restored. An unknown error has occured (1)."
After this little mishap occured four more times, I decided to click "More Information," and was promptly brought to the help page set up here. I proceeded to troubleshoot by updating to the latest version of iTunes, updating my security, restarting my computer, and so forth until all the necessary precautions were performed. Now it was back to iTunes to try my luck at getting my life back.
To my delight, I found that this time the restoration process took upwards of forty minutes to complete. However, to my despair, a nice little error message popped up that read, "The iPhone 'iPhone' could not be restored. An unknown error has occured (-1)." Ah, a different error message! i thought, feeling as if there was hope in fixing my phone. I clicked "More Information" and skimmed through the specific error messages, looking for that lucky -1. Nothing.
I need help. I have attempted to restore my phone a dozen times since this occurence, and I'm growing tired of going through the same process over and over and getting the same result. My phone is stuck in recovery mode now. I've tried restoring the phone on 2 different computers, to find out if, in fact, the problem was my iPhone and not my computer.
Some important information you may need to know in order to help me solve my problem:
    iPhone 3gs
    Running iOS 5.0
    Using iTunes 10.5
On an Acer Aspire One Netbook
    Running Windows 7
All security updates installed as of November 7, 2011
Also iTunes 10.5 on Acer Aspire 57354774 laptop
    Running Windows 7
Reply ASAP with a solution please!

  • IPhone 3GS stuck in recovery mode while updating to iOS 6.1

Hello there, I was updating my iPhone 3GS(New Bootrom) from iOS6.0 to iOS 6.1. While it was updating, iTunes suddenly ends up saying error and now my iPhone is stuck in recovery mode loop. I've tried DFU mode on my iPhone and try to kick it out by using TinyUmbrella but the computer doesn't reconize it. And when it was on recovery, iTunes doesn't reconize too, a window pops up and says i have to install 'Apple Mobile Device'. I've re-install and install iTunes a couple of times and nothing is working. Switching on and off the iPhone doesn't work too. Please, someone help me with this problem! I really do not know what to do! Please reply this As Soon As Possible!

Ok. I have spent the last 8 hours researching this problem and have the absolute 110% answer to everyone's problem with this issue.
Error 13 and 14 : Are checksum problems with the firmware image that is in the update package.
The update package is a .ipsw (IPod or IPhone SoftWare). This file is actually just a .zip renamed .ipsw.
The error is caused by a failure to download a crc-free version of the file. Not really sure why there are so many crc problems with the iphone updates, but Apple does not check the integrity of the update package before wiping your current version of IPhone software and that is why all IPhones that start an update with a bad update package end up in recovery mode. These errors are NOT related to the iTunes installation, antivirus software, or firewalls.
Recommendation : use a program like "Object Fix" (Freeware) to verify the integrity of the file prior to commencing with any new updates. You will have to keep trying to download it until you get a error free file. Once you have a CRC error free file this problem will go away. (I thought TCP/IP helped get rid of CRC errors.)
I had another problem and that was...
Error 1603 and 1604 : These are USB driver connectivity problems.
Recommendation : FULLY uninstall and re-install itunes software as stated in the Apple support documentation. Be sure to reboot between each step and these problems should clear themselves up. In addition, firewalls and anti-virus software may cause these errors as well.
Finally, shame on apple for not properly documenting their software so that end users do not have to decrypt their error messages with no true support to solve the issues. These are problems that enough people have had that there should be specific documentation on these problems.

  • After attempting to update to ios 7, my iphone is stuck in recovery mode and will not connect to the itunes software server.

After attempting to update to ios 7, my iphone is stuck in recovery mode and will not connect to the itunes software server.  I have already tried the resetting with power swich and home button and plugging into computer but it says the "iPhone software update server cannot be contacted."  I am locked out of my phone.  Does anyone have any idea how to resolve this issue and get the phone working again.  I will add that I am now trying to restore it on a different computer with a lower version of itunes, but the computer that it initially happened on had the updated itunes and gave me the same result ... nothing.  Thanks for your help in advance.

Try going to recovery mode as described here.  You may have to try this more than once to succeed.
Use the original iTunes that the iPhone synced with.

  • Iphone 4s stuck in recovery mode after update

    Hello..
After updating my iphone 4s, my iphone got stuck in recovery mode. I don't really care what happens to my contacts, old texts, or apps.. All I want are my pictures. Anyone have any idea on how I can get them back? I have over 1,200 pictures & I none of them can be found on my iCloud. Someone help me save my photos!!

    See Here  >  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808
You may need to try this More than Once...
Be sure to Follow ALL the Steps...
But... if the Device has been Modified... this will Not necessarily work.
Once the Device is asking to be Restored with iTunes... it is too late to save anything...
To minimise loss... Connect to iTunes on the computer you Usually Sync with and Restore from the most recent Backup...
    Restore from Backup

  • HT201263 iphone 4s stuck in recovery mode after trying to download ios6

My iphone is stuck in recovery mode and when I try to restore it, it seems to download the new software (ios6) but nothing is restored. I still get that recovery screen. How can I get out of the recovery mode?

    Hey Justinjoly,
Thanks for the question, I understand how frustrating this may be. It sounds like the update process may have been interrupted, and to resolve the issue, we’ll need to restore your device in recovery mode with iTunes:

  • Iphone 4s stuck after recovery mode

So, my iphone was giving me a hard time, it wasn't receiving any calls since yesterday, and i found out today. It also hasn't been receiving any texts since yesterday. So, we kept trying and eventually got calls to work but no texts. So I tried to restore my iphone, well mid way through restore I got an error. AFTER it formatted everything. And I clicked ok, and my iphone is stuck in the screen where it says to connect the phone to itunes. But, when i plug it into my computer, my computer detects a USB was plugged in, but when i go to my computer it usually shows in removable storage "LT's Iphone". It doesn't show it there. Also itunes doesn't.
I tried everything I could find on the internet about fixing it, but nothing helped. I tried restarting it (brought me back to the same screen). I can't seem to get out of this screen. I've tried everything I can, and nothing works. I tried reinstalling itunes.
If anyone could help, PLEASE, I really hate being without my phone xD, so much appreciated. And if possible, i REALLY don't want to go to the genious bar, so if i can i want to fix it from home since my screen is pretty cracked and destroyed and they will just make me pay to replace it
10,000 texts a month user in distress!!

I was finally able to restore my phone and apply the backup, but my 4S is now basically an iTouch.  I have no cellular network service and Verizon can't get it restored.
And since I'm on an enterprise plan, I have to wait until next week to get anything done with the phone.
I thought I was safe updating my iPhone...
But as the old adage goes... "Just say no to version  .0"
