I need to create a second back-up of iPhoto from Time Machine to a separate external drive.  The old iPhoto in TM will not open.  Please help!  And thank you!

    Most Simple Back Up:
Drag the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to another Disk. This will make a copy on that disk.
Slightly more complex: Use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically.
Example of such apps: Chronosync - but there are many others. Search on MacUpdate or the App Store

  • The iphoto and itunes will not open please help

on my Mac G5 the iphoto and itunes will not open can anyone help

Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at the top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
Then, hold the Option key down when trying to open iPhoto, does it ask where it's Library is? Or what exactly happens?

  • IPhoto and iMovie will not open with Mountain Lion upgrade.

Since upgrading to Mountain Lion OS 10.8, my iPhoto and iMovie will not open. I am using a newly purchased MB Air. I re-installed iPhoto from the App Store after trashing my previously installed iPhoto application. IPhoto Library Manager was downloaded as recommended on Apple Support but also will not open. I also tried to trach the iPhoto plist as recommended by a community member.  Each application (iPhoto and iMovie) bounces above the dock and message received that application unexpectedly closed. Thank you for any recommendations.

  • Missing iphoto photos/ window will not open?

While working with downloading photos from a CD, I dragged some files from my hard drive Pictures Icon into the trash. When I tried to open iPhoto again, the wheel just spins and iPhoto will not open. I went back to "Pictures help" and read that items should not be moved from "Pictures." because it may affect iPhoto!!! I dragged everything from Picturers back out of the trash and back into the Pictures window. iPhoto still will not open. What can I do now to open iPhoto?
    imac   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   iPhoto 4.0.3

Start iPhoto while holding the shift+option keys until you're prompted to confirm your intention to rebuild the database. Click "Yes", the click "Save". Give it a few minutes.

  • I have a Imac and I have 8.1 iphoto and it will not open my library  it started after i tried to close all the windows with no luck and had to force the system down by turning it off. everythig else came back up olay except Iphoto

My iphto will not open after I had to shut down my imac due to it not being able to close iphoto . It just says opeartion not able to open.

Try at the very least to update your iPhoto version to 8.1.2.

  • IPhoto 9.6 will not open in OSX Yosimite 10.10.2

    I'm using a MacBook Pro 15inch Early 2011 machine, 2GHz, 8GB RAM, OSX Yosimite 10.10.2.
I have iPhoto version 9.6 and it will not open, just hangs up on the main screen with the little wheel spinning in the middle of it endlessly. No error messages. Program will not start even after several minutes and no other programs running in the background. Any thoughts?

what has changed since it worked?
You can Back up your iPhoto library, Depress and hold the option (alt) and command keys and launch iPhoto - from the resulting first aid window repair permissions and if necessary rebuild your database

  • IPHOTO MACBOOK PRO WILL NOT OPEN

    AFTER INSTALLING THE LATEST SOFTWARE..
IPHOTO WILL NOT OPEN ON MY MAC. IT WILL JUST
SHOW THE WHITE CIRLCE SPINNING LIKE IT IS ABOUT
TO OPEN BUT IT NEVER DOES??? ANY IDEAS WHY?

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
Please don't type in block capitals. It's actually harder to read, and on the forum it looks like you're shouting at everybody.

  • Need help, Photoshop Elements 11 will not open anymore.

I have Photoshop Elements 11 and will not open anymore, it hangs up on initial window with credits & version info. I tried everything I can think of, shutting down all the background programs, windows update, uninstalling & reinstalling the Photosphop. I am able to open the Adobe Photoshop Editor and I even updated the Adobe from Editor to see if that would help but no luck. Anyone have any ideas?

    You say:
it hangs up on initial window
    but then:
I am able to open the Adobe Photoshop Editor
Does this mean the problem is with the organizer? If so, hold down the shift key when starting it and try creating a new catalog in the catalog manager that should open. If that works, go back to file>manage catalogs and try repairing and optimizing your real catalog.

  • IPhoto 08' Preferences Will Not Open

Can not open iPhoto Preferences when selected from the iPhoto menu. Anyone experience this?
    Thanks,
    mark

Quit iPhoto and Trash your iPhoto preferences ( "your username" ==> library ==> preferences ==> com.apple.iphoto.plist) then launch iPhoto - it will recreate a new default preference file

When trying to open Adobe Acrobat Reader 8, it does not open A little window appears and states there was an error opening Adobe Acrobat/Reader. If it is running please exit and try again. (103:103). I have tried uninstalling, reinstalling and upgrading to Adobe XI. Nothing. I have tried managing the add-ons in IE...nothing. I have upgraded to IE10....nothing. I have checked the H-Keys as some of the fixes suggested...Nothing. I have checked the permissions, advanced permissions, etc.....Nothing. When I do get a document to atleast open on a website, I get a blank gray page with none of the Reader Icons and no error. I am currently using Windows 7, IE10 and have the recent Adobe XI package free downloads.  Now, a little history....my daughter had downloaded Google Chrome a couple of weeks back. This is when it all started. I have since uninstalled Google Chrome before I went thru all the procedures above. Please send some help.!

What is your operating system & web browser?
Can you open the docs if you download them to your local disk first?

  • IPHOTO Library file will not open after update of iPhoto 9.6.1

I am trying to open up my IPHOTO Library in IPHOTO 9.6.1 with not success.
My computer is a Mac (27-inch, Mid 2011), 2.7 GHZ Intel core i5 processor, 8 GB ram, AMD Radeon HD 6770M 512 MB graphics card, 1TB Hard Drive.
My iPhoto 9..6.1 appears to be created on March 16, 2015 and was modified on March 20,2015 which I assume is from a security update 2015-003.
My iPhoto Library was created March 22, 2012 and was last updated March 1, 2015.  To the best of my knowledge, it has not been open since it was last updated.  Unfortunately there are no current backups to the file.
When I launch IPHOTO the screen shows a rotating sprocket then after a period of time I receive a message:
Your photo library is either in use be another application or has become unreadable. Shut down and restart your computer, and then open iPhoto again.  If the problem persists, try rebuilding your iPhoto library,  to do this , quit iPhoto, and then reopen it while keeping the Option and Command keys pressed.  You can also try restoring your photo library from a backup.
When I follow this am left with four  items to chooses from:  repair permissions, rebuild thumbnails, repair database, rebuild database.  The first is selected and assume this is by default. I am not sure what the best choice is to select.  Secondly since i have no backup of the file and I am not sure the file is corrupted, I started trying to create  a copy on on an external drive however the file (192GB Size) new completes a copy routine. I considered a backup process which would take multiple hours.
    Looking for direction.

    1. make a back up. No matter how long it takes.
Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically.

    2.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Well assuming that you didn't open this library with iPhoto 7, it's often a sign of a damaged database.
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
