HELP. Iphoto crashes... What do I do?

I have a MacBook Pro, OS X Version 10.8.2 with processor 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5. Iphoto crashes on me often. I try to open a new album or edit a picture and then the application stops responding an dI have to force quit or it crashes and closes itself. What can I do to fix this. My entire computer slows down when the application has problems. I have 80GB of room still on my hard drive.
Thanks.

What version of iPhoto are you running? As a first quick fix give this a try:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
     User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).
or with Mt. Lion from the User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto/
Data/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
NOTE 2:  In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.

  • Please help, Iphoto crashes when trying to update my iphoto library

i recently upgraded my operating system to Lion OS x 10.7.3, and I bought the IPhoto 11' (9.2.1) from the app store. Now it crashes when I try to open after telling me it needs to update my library (version 8.1.2). It starts updating, but then crashes. I have tried rebuilding my library with IPhoto Library Manager, so I can get the program to work with this, but it also crashes in the attempt to rebuild.  I can open the program with an empty library, but then I can't get to my old photos.  I have also reinstalled Iphoto, without this helping. And I have tried to find these "receipts", and have deleted these. I also have deleted the QuickTime 7, which I still had, and I'm now only running the QuickTime Player 10.1. Now I have to ask you for help. Here is a copy of the first part of the crash report:

I did as you suggested, and finally I got to reinstall Lion, but the problem persist. Is there no way I can repair only QuickTime? I tried installing also version QT7.7, but it doesn't seem to make a difference.

  • Help iPhoto crashes when I try to print

I started experiencing a problem with iPhoto today. I was trying to print images from an album and the program keeps crashing. We rebooted, repaired the library, ran Disc Repair Utility, rebooted again and still it keeps crashing. Here is the top lines of the error message. I tried images from different albums so it is not a corrupt file. I am using a Mac Pro running OS10.7.5.
at the top it says "iPhoto quit unexpectedly while using the EF118958 (FF) plugin."

Have been trying to use the new Backup 3.0 program, but whenever I perform a backup, diskimages-helper crashes and the backup stops with an error about not being able to create the archive (this is on any type of disk - idisk, firewire etc)
In the console you can see that the diskimages-helper crash must be responsible for the Backup 3.0 error as it happens every time I try and run a backup.
Anyone have any info on this resource and possible issues in 10.4.2. I ran AppleJack just now and it reported the boot drive was fine. I have repaired permissions etc...
    Any ideas, many thanks

  • Preferences gone, iphoto crash, help!!

    Hello All,
I've had my Powerbook G4 since 2004, and updated to Tiger 10.4.9 from Jaguar 10.3.9 about three months ago.
Today, I came home from work to a seemingly fine working machine. I closed the lid and brought it with me to Panera for some dinner, opened it up to get online, and was shocked with what had happened in 15 minutes.
I use Drag Thing for an extra dock system, and I found that all of my programs that were shortcuted in Drag Thing suddenly not in the docs. The apple doc had moved itself from the left side of the screen to the bottom, with ALL of the programs I've been using in the doc suddenly not there. In their places are programs I dont use, or have never used. It appeared how Macs are shipped, with the default icons.
Firefox's bookmarks are all erased. iTunes told me my library was corrupted. iPhoto crashes upon starting (it doesnt even fully load before it 'quits unexpectedly'). iCal has lost all of my calendars. Office 2004 tells me that it cant find the default templates when I open saved documents in both word and excel.
Expose' needed to be customized, I needed to change my daily schedule of waking/sleeping, and my widgets preferences are all set back to the default. All of the folders and their contents in any finder window (from my applications folder to my external hard drive) are scattered about, as if someone picked them up and just 'tossed' them onto my screen.
I am very nervous. Luckily, I have backed up all of my documents, pictures, and music to an external HD. So data loss is not a huge concern. But, what bothers me is how did this happen? It was sleeping for maybe 15 minutes, and then BAM! It pulls this stunt!!
What do I need to do to solve this issue? Its as if someone, while my computer was sleeping, deleted all of my preference files for EVERY (and I emphasize EVERY) program installed on my Mac....from iChat, iPhoto, iTunes, to Photoshop CS2, Office 2004, and Firefox, and Thunderbird.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

The commonest cause of these symptoms is when someone decides to change the shortname of their home account. Doesn't sound like that's the case with yours however. Have you booted from the install disk and run Disk Utilities? If not do so. It will be in the menu bar--close the install window, go to the menu bar, located Disk Utility, launch it, and run both Repair Disk and Repair Permissions. If it reports errors it cannot repair you will need to buy a copy of Disk Warrior. Also, just how full is your drive? How much free space do you have left? You need 10 to 15% of free space. Thus, if you have a 60GB drive you would want to always have 6 to 10GBs free.
Also, it sounds like you do not have a proper backup. Do yourself a big favor and buy a an external disk to make a backup. You will want a clone that you can boot from, and that you can backup your files to regularly. Do a search here in Apple Discussions on backup for extensive advice.

  • IPhoto CRASHES when I try ti import short video shot with my Canon Rebel..HELP!!!

HELP!    I have a Canon Rebel EOS T3i.  I shoot many wonderful still pixs.  I have also shot some video (movies) during recent cruise which I was able to download and edit properly and include it in my overall Cruise Album.
I have been editing all this on iMovie, importing the photos, videos, adding titles, effexs. etc.   Suddenly -TODAY- iPhoto is not letting me shoot an additional short video to include in the Album.   When I IMPORT the video from the Canon into iPhoto,  and click PLAY, iPhoto CRASHES!    Something is wrong and I don't know what it is.

There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on eight different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary from version to version and OS to OS. So before anyone can help, they need information to work with. Things like:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. What were you doing when the problem arose?
    - Did it ever work properly?
    - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
Anything else you can think of that might allow someone else to understand your issue.

    Hi shldr2thewheel,
it has been a while since we have last spoke, I would like to let you know, I am still working on getting used to the switch from windows to a Mac/Apple system. I do have a new question for you, I did purchase In Design CS5.5 through journeyed.com through Cuyahoga Community College of which I attend as a student, is there a way to purchase an online book through iTunes to learn that as well? Also, you know me, the struggling student, I would also, when and if the book can be purchased through the iTunes, would need to know if you do know of a much easier book for struggling students like myself and at a reasonable price as well for the In Design CS5.5 program. Our campus bookstore had closed early, and, so did the colleges library and our local library here where I do live, so, I cannot go to either place to purchase a book or to take out a book, plus cash funds are low at this moment as well but, I do have money left on the iTunes account to use, if it can be used. So, can it be used, the iTunes money, towards finding a low priced online book? I am in great need of assistance as I have a project due for my one course for this Tuesday, September 4, 2012.
Sincerely in need of help once again,
    Kim

  • Iphoto crashes so tried the Alt start with new library and that worked. So now what? How to I get back to my pictures.

Iphoto crashes so tried the Alt start with new library and that worked. So now what? How to I get back to my pictures.

That shows you that iPhoto is working correctly and whatever issue you are having is based in your original library.
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

My iphoto crashes within a couple of seconds every time I open it. Can you help?

    Hi
A standard approach to this sort of problem is to delete all cache files and reboot.  If that doesn't work, try dragging the iPhoto preferences to a different folder (also known as "trashing" the preferences)

  • Help: iPhoto quits on its own, doesn't generate crash log

I cannot open iphoto long enough to do anythign with it. It reports that there are "incostencies" it needs to repair, I let it do that. Then as soon as I click around in the application it quits on me. Rinse, lather, repeat. In particular, seems as though turning on Photostream makes it even more unstable.
I do not have 3ivx installed (checked /Library/Application Support/) and I even de-installed Perian (which as a 3ivx component in it). I would post an iPhoto crash log here but the last crash log generated is from 2007 unless I'm looking in the wrong spot (Console.app > Crash Reporter > iPhoto.crash.log).
Someone please help with whatever suggestions you have.

Hoo boy, excuse my egregious spelling errors in the first post. I was typing quickly while trying to get out the door for something.
So, I attempted your suggestion after getting home again. I was unable to get the behavior to repeat itself with the new test library. I even turned on photostream and played around with Faces a bit.
Now, after switching back to my default library, it hasn't crashed doing the same things that I was trying before (accessing photostream, playing with Faces, clicking around rapidly). So, for whatever reason, that may have helped it? I'll post if there's another crash later.

  • IPhoto crash when assembling book-please help

Hello, as my subject line states, every time I try to buy or preview a book, iPhoto crashes. I hit "buy book", see my total, hit continue & just as the progress bar appears for "assembling book" it crashes.
I've read through these discussions, removed the program with App Zapper, reloaded iLife '08 from the original disk, rebuilt everything after holding down apple/option while starting iPhoto, removed preferences/cache & even ran onyX but no luck.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! I'm currently trying to purchase two different books as gifts for my wife & mother.

Hi Anastassio, here's the report. I hope it helps.
    Thanks.

hi everybody, please someone help me,i had a 3gs last year and i bought a 4,but itunes doesn't synch videos from photos file and it crashes, every time i try to synch photos it stacks when videos try to synch and crashes, what to do please?

hi i had the same problem today when i updated my itunes to latest version. however, i have just found my songs in the 'itunes media' folder. this was accessed through 'my music'  then keep clicking through until you find itunes media and all my library songs were in there and i then just added these files to my library and all were restored however, i have lost all my playlists but at least my 700 songs are back. very dissapointed with apple that they have let this happen with their latest update, the previous version was miles better than this one . hope you find them. stevo

iPhoto crashed. When reopened, 70+  some events were grayed out (no photos).  Restored iPhoto library from Time Machine, fewer grayed events.  Said yes to a msg on fixing library, 3000 more photos. Still wrong.  What next to do?

Do you still have the library that you were using when the crash occurred?  If so apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - run Option #4 to rebuild the database.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button and select the library you want to add in the selection window..
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • FAE help with export - iphoto crashing

    Hello,
I'm trying to use FAE to create the portfolio section (graphic design) of my site. Thanks to the help of a few folks on this forum i've found extensive instructions on how to do so. I've successfully created practice albums with pictures already in my iphoto library. However, I'm currently trying to convert my design files into jpegs in order to import them into iphoto, to finally export them with FAE. When I try to export my created JPEGS with FAE, iphoto crashes. The JPEGS are exported adobe illustrator files that have been, as I mentioned before, imported into iphoto as JPEG files.
I am getting a slightly different prompt with these images as well after I hit export in FAE (when it's asking the location to save the created file to)
I am assuming that the problem is with the created JPEGs, I've tried playing around with the settings a bit with no luck. If anyone has any advice it would be greatly appreciated!
    Cheers!
    Lilly

Try using this Automator workflow on the original Illustrator/jpg files to convert them again to a jpg file: Convert to JPG and Embed sRGB profile. Then import and try exporting with FAE. You can download it from Toad's Cellar.
Also try using some of your regular jpg files with FAE to see if it will import. If it crashes with other jpgs then it's not the file, it's iPhoto and the plugin. In that case try deleting the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, reboot, repair disk permissions and try again.
An alternative to FAE Exporter is Jalbum. It has more themes/skins and options and the resulting files are added to iWeb the same as those from FAE.
