Help! iPhoto disappeared when upgraded to maverick

Help! How can I get my iPhoto and pictures back? I upgraded to maverick and my iPhoto disappeared along with all my pictures! I'm afraid that even if I purchase the new iPhoto for $14.99, it would still be wasted effort if I can't get my pictures back! Try to remain calm but I'm so angry right now. Please help!

Do you have an iPhoto library in your Pictures folder?

iTunes music not playing in iPhoto slideshow after upgrading to Maverick....Why?

Yes, the tracks were purchased in the iTunes store. I'm sure that DRM is the culprit. Seems like an obvious answer now that I think about it.
    Thanks for the help.

Created PDF form in Acrobat XI Pro, but HELP fields disappear when I save FCDT file to PDF. Please help. Thanks!

I am not aware of a field type "Help" within a PDF form. I do not see it as a form field that can be added in the form edit mode.
Forms Central forms do not support all the features of Acrobat forms.
Are you talking about the "Tool Tips" or a hidden field that only shows when one enters a field and is hidden upon exiting the field.

  • Will a DIY fusion drive work when upgraded to Mavericks?

Mavericks was exciting for all it's power, but I have noticed that a ton of pp are experiencing problems with their home-brew fusion drives when upgraded to Mavericks, is that true? And if it is, is there any fix?
    Thanks!

The link is for installing 10.9 on a DIY fusiondrive (though explained for a DP). It works just fine on the final release. I just had it done and is as smooth as whistle.....

  • HT6114 My os x server disappeared after upgrading to mavericks

I had purchased OS X Server on my Mountain Lion version, but it disappeared after upgrading to Mavericks. What should I do to get my Server back?

I understand, sadly Apple set the rules & the prices.
You will need to read the requirements for running Server.app, the old version was for 10.8, the newest is for 10.9. if you hope to configure on 10.9 you'll need to pay again.

  • Why did I lose my iPhoto when upgrading to Mavericks.  I have a mid 2009 13" Macbook Pro

My version of iPhoto is not working after upgrading to Mavericks OS

I have the exact same issue. Mid 2010 MBP. I ran software update before the upgrade, ran the upgrade, no longer have iLife / iWork (Garage Band, Pages etc) all gone.
All I can think to do is dig out my disks which are burried away with the box.
Ive upgraded the through Lion, Leopard etc and this has not happened. Also, JRE/JDK uninstalled itself so I had to reinstall that and Netbeans.
All in all a pretty crap update. Losing iPhoto is a pain in the neck and really should not have happened. I have an email out with App Store support. I am not paying £10+ to re-download something I already technically own!

  • Iphoto disappeared when I updated to OS X Yosemite - help!

iphoto disappeared after I updated to Yosemite. When I spotlight search it, I'm alerted my version is incompatible with Yosemite, and need to update. When I go to update, I'm told this version isn't available yet in my country (USA). The app and all my non-backed up photos are gone... how do I recover this?

    1. First make a back up:
    Most Simple Back Up:
Drag the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to another Disk. This will make a copy on that disk.
Slightly more complex: Use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically.
Example of such apps: Chronosync - but there are many others. Search on MacUpdate or the App Store
    2. Download the App:
Go to the App Store and check out the Purchases List. If iPhoto is there then it will be v9.6.1
If it is there, then drag your existing iPhoto app (not the library, just the app) to the trash
Install the App from the App Store.
Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4928
One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.

  • My video call icon on facebook chat has disappeared since upgrading to mavericks, any ideas anyone?

Since upgrading to Mavericks about a month ago, my video chat icon has disappeared from Facebook chat - I can't think of any other reason for this problem other than the upgrade to Mavericks. Any ideas anyone?

I'm also dealing with some slowness since moving to Mavericks — but mainly with regard to long lag times with the Finder when I go to rename files, move files, or delete files.
Could it be any of the following? (which came up red)

  • Need help! Attempting to Upgrade to Mavericks broke my MacBook Pro

I'm in need of help.  I'll try to give all the info I can.
I have had this MacBook Pro for at least 4 years.
I had been running 10.5 for a long time without issue.  At some point, I set up a dual boot with Windows XP.  I'm not sure why I did this.  It seemed like a cool idea at the time.  I rarely ever used Windows... But I liked having the option.  It worked very well.
Years went by.  No issues.  A few months ago I tried updating itunes and realized I needed 10.6 in order to do that... so I bought a Snow Leopard disk and successfully installed the upgrade.
Past few months I've been running 10.6.8 without any issues.  Dual booting into Windows XP still worked.  No issues.
Then today I realized that installing to 10.9 through the App Store was free.  Sure why not... so I tried installing the upgrade... It downloaded, rebooted, started installing and then quit.  Something about my disk being corrupted or something.  It suggested i reboot my machine, back up my files and try installing again.
Unfortunately, now when I tried booting, it was giving me a grey screen with a circle and a slash through it instead of the Apple logo... and then it would immediately boot into Windows.   It wouldn't boot into OSX at all.
I tried booting into safemode and it would just sit at the green screen (apple icon showing) and sit there for hours.  NOthing would happen.
I tried booting via my OSX Snow Leopard disk and doing a repair disk and it's not allowing me to.  Any ideas?

It doesn't really make sense for the drive to suddenly fail.  I don't even think Mavericks fully began installing... it downloaded the file, rebooted and then said that the install failed.
The drive is set up with 2 partitions.  One partition for Mac OSX and the other for Windows XP.   I'm still able to boot into Windows XP without any issue at all.  Doesn't that suggest the drive itself might be fine?  I wonder if the attempt at installing Mavericks messed up some files on the MacOSX partition?
Here's what I've attempted to do...
I tried doing Shift + Cmd + V and this is the last few lines of code it gives me:
    ** Root file system
    Executing fsck_hfs (version diskdev_cmds-491.6-3).
** Checking Journaled HFS Plus volume.
    Invalid extent entry
    (4, 0)
** The volume could not be verified completely.
/dev/rdisk0s2 (hfs) EXITED WITH SIGNAL 8
    fsck failed!
    Kext loading now disabled.
    Kext unloading now disabled
    Kext autounloading now disabled.
    Kernal requests now disabled.
    Can't get kextd port.
    syncing disks... Killing all processes
    continuing
I used my OSX 10.6 (snow leopard) disk to boot holding C... this allowed me to open up disk utility from the utilities menu.  Within Disk Utility, I see my Mac OSX partition drive... When I click "Verify Disk" it gives me an error saying "Invalid extent entry.  The volume could not be verified completely.  Error:  This disk needs to be repaired.  Click Repair Disk"...  When I click "Repair Disk" I get an error that says:
"Verify and Repair volume "Macintosh HD"
    Checking Journaled HFS Plus volume.
    Invalid extent entry
The volume could not be verified completely.
    Volume repair complete.
Updating boot support partitions for the volume as required.
Error:  Disk Utility can't repair this disk... disk, and restore your backed-up files."
    And a popup that says:
"Disk Utility stopped repairing "Macintosh HD"   Disk utility can't repair this disk.  Back up as many of your files as possible, reformat the disk, and restore your backed-up files"
.... Is there anything else I can do?  Again, the second partition (on the same drive) that I have called "Untitled" is home of my Windows XP partition.  I'm having no trouble booting into Windows XP...
NOt sure what I can do from here.  It seems the attempt to upgrade to Mavericks messed some stuff up.  I am merely guessing that this is due to my drive having two partitions (one for Windows).  I guess it's semi plausible that it was just a complete fluke and the drive randomly got corrupted after 5 years at the exact moment I attempted to upgrade to Mavericks, but I find that highly unlikely.

after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears.
Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
    4. Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Buffer overflow when upgrading to Mavericks from Snow Leopard

I haven't been able to install the upgrade to Mavericks and am unsure of what is wrong on my Intel Core Duo iMac. I recently upgraded to 4 gig memory.
This is the section of the error log I think is pertinent.

    Ideas??

Normally what happens is that each of the software vendors are testing their products on Lion already.  If they find some problem running under Lion they have the time make the fixes before Lion goes to the public.
You can check the vendor sites to see if they have updates for Lion when the public release is closer.  You'll probably find that most software is ok as is.
Upgrades will leave your software and data intact.

  • Topic Text disappears when upgrading to RoboHelp 7

When upgrading a French webhelp project from RoboHelp 5 to
RoboHelp 7, the topic text is deleted in context-sensitive help
topics. When you click the Help button in the application, the
topic appears, but is blank. When I rechecked the input, the topic
was also blank. The topic appears just fine in both the input and
the output prior to the upgrade of the project.
These topics upgrade just fine in the US English version of
the same webhelp project. Does that mean that the translated French
project must be retranslated from the upgraded US English version
instead of just upgrading it directly? Any ideas would be greatly
    appreciated.

    Hi gomayfield
You would do well to examine the HTML code behind these
"blank" topics. I recently was assisting someone that upgraded to
RoboHelp 7 and they had some blank topics. Upon closer examination,
there was a substantial amount of text in the topic. Somehow, some
odd coding had caused RoboHelp to insert a closing Body tag. This
rendered the topic blank in the Design view.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Printers disappeared after upgrade to Mavericks

All printers disappeared from user account after upgrade to Mavericks from 10.6.8 by Migration Assistant.
The obvious question: How to migrate the printers?
I don't recall each individual printer setup and just want to move them over.

    Hello Mac Experts,
I recently upgraded from Tiger to Leopard and I too am having this same issue. After my upgrade was completed, I checked my printers and noticed that all my network printers were gone. I have never perform an OS X upgrade before and this is my first attempt, although the upgrade was successful but I was a bit surprised that all the network printers that I have were gone.
For those us either in a small SOHO this is no big deal, however, if you're in a big environment where you have a lot of machines this would be a big problem and would create a lot of unnecessary work and time wasted.
Have any of you Mac experts perform an upgrade from Panther to Tiger? If so, did you loose all your network printers that you have configured in System Preferences > Print & Fax
Could this be a bug in Leopard????

  • My MacBookPro uses. OSX 10.6.8. When upgrading to Maverick, what problems can I encounter?

I have been using Snow Leopard for years.  Now I feel the need to install Maverick.  What are the procedures and problems I may confront?
    Thank you.

Are you sure your model can be upgraded to Mavericks?
    Upgrading to Mavericks
You can upgrade to Mavericks from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mavericks can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for FREE.
    Upgrading to Mavericks
To upgrade to Mavericks you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Download Mavericks from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mavericks is free. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mavericks
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
         Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table - RoaringApps.

  • All photos disappeared when upgrading from iPhoto 4 to Photo 8.

Yesterday I bought a new MBP 2.5 GHz 15" to substitute my older laptop, an iBook G4 12". In that iBook I used the original iLife package bundled, including the iPhoto 4. All my pictures were stored in an external hard drive, into an iPhoto Library folder.
I used Migration Assistant to transfer all my data from that iBook to my new MBP, through Firewire. Everything went nice except for few programs that weren't universal which I'm still fixing.
When opening the new iPhoto in this MBP, it asked for the iPhoto Library Folder, and I indicated the old folder located at my external hard drive. After selecting it, appeared a dialog box saying that the new iPhoto Library folder wouldn't be readable in older iPhoto versions, and I selected ok. Than it created all my albums inside nicely but to my surprise (and despair) all my pictures were gone. To make things worse, I don't have backup of those hi-res, only the ones formated to my iPhone that I already recovered from it.
I don't know what to do, and I'm desperate since invaluable data from years worth are simply gone because of a stupid upgrade that Apple made. I can't understand how Apple didn't make and option to duplicate the iPhoto folder or ask if I wanted to backup it before upgrading if there was such a risk.
Since this happened I tried to recover the data using Data Rescue II, and I haven't cleaned the trash yet, but I can't find the files. If someone could please give me a suggestion I would really appreciate it.

Migration Assistant is known for not handling iPhoto libraries very well. I suggest you copy the old library again but this time manually and put it in the Pictures folder. Thendownload and run BatChmod on the iPhoto Library folder with the settings shown here, putting your administrator login name in the owner section and Staff in the group section. You can either type in the path to the folder or just drag the folder into that field.
After that's complete open iPhoto and let it convert the library again.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.
