Help! iPhoto library not available to other Apple applications

My iPhoto library is not available for browsing in other Apple applications like iMovie, Mail or even Desktop and Screen Saver. I've rebuilt the iPhoto database, fixed permissions, tried to do over starting with a clean plate and importing the database and nothing seems to work. The iPhoto library is unavailable to other Apple applications that can make use of it.
Any ideas as to how I can fix this problem? FWIW, iTunes is available in other Apple applications and iPhoto seems to work just fine as a stand alone application it just doesn't want to play with the other children anymore.
Thanks.

Eric
Sharing between applicationns is enabled by a file in the iPhoto Library Folder called the Albumdata.xml file.
First step: Remove this file and restart iPhoto. This will force iPhoto to rebuild the files. Then relaunch the other apps, see if they see can see iPhoto.
If not, do you have any non-ascii characters in your titles or keywords - bascaly anything that's not 0-9 or a - z.
If that's not the issue, have a look at this thread

  • Iphoto library not available as screensaver

I want my computer to show my pictures from the iPhoto library, as the screensaver. I always had that but now in Mountain Lion the iPhoto library is not available as an option to select. I do have the possibility to select my PhotoBooth picture, but I want my iPhoto Library. Anyone have the same issue and, more importatn, does anyone know how to fix this?

you can choose to use your iphoto library pics by going into system prefs/desktop & screensaver
click on screensaver and make sure you choose a screen saver option that uses pictures (such as floating, snapshots, etc)
now next to source option hit the drop down and your iphoto library should be an option to choose
once you choose iphoto library it will further give you options to use specific event pics etc.
the following article also talks about screensavers in mt lion:

  • Iphoto library not active in my Apple screensaver

With Apple system preferences I am not able to choose my Iphoto library as a screensaver.
I think this happened after I updated to Iphoto 11 or after I start using MobileMe?
It only happens on our Imac. On the laptops in our house it is no problem.
My library contains appr 27.000 pictures/video's and the size is 220 gb
    Any suggestions?

You misunderstood - I can launch iPhoto just fine - it's HELP which doesn't launch/load/download. I get the Help window and the spinning disk and Help never downloads.
I'll search for help on Help (iPhoto 11 Help) elsewhere - this isn't the right place.
I solved the screensaver issue, by the way.
No need to get testy with me about my rhetorical plea to Apple. I understand that Apple "ain't here."

  • IPhoto update can't be installed on my MAC ref. "This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled." this is not possible help?

Recent upgrade to OS X Yosemite on my MAC and iPhoto update can not  now be installed msg reads, "This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled." this is not possible help?

That error message can be misleading. It means, that iPhoto on your Mac is not associated with your Apple ID.
Either you did not set up  your Mac using the same Apple ID - did someone help with your setup and use a different ID? Perhaps a family member? Or did you let someone borrow your installer disks?
Or did you not yet "Accept" iPhoto and other iLife apps to your Apple ID? Check the "Purchased" tab of the App Store, if any applications are waiting to be accepted. If you see "Accept" buttons, press them.
You may  be unable to "Accept" now, if you missed the update to iphoto 9.5.1 on Mavericks. You could try to buy iPhoto, however. If you are lucky, it may show for free.
Backup your iPhoto library, if you do not have a current backup.
Uninstall iPhoto by deleting it from the Applications folder, but do not empty the Trash, so you can put it back,if need be.
Launch the App Store, click the "Store" menu, and sign in with your current AppleID.
Open the main page "Featured" of the App Store and search for iPhoto.
If iPhoto is listed as "Free", click the "Free" button to buy it with your current AppleID.
If it is not showing as free, there is no help but contacting the App Store Support to sort out the AppleID. Use this link: http://www.apple.com/support/mac/app-store/contact/

Somehow my iphoto got canceled?  I keep getting this message "This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or canceled.  How do I fix this?

No - you can not open iPHoto - you need version 9.5.1 - I did not suggest Photo
    I suggested
If you are logged in with the Apple ID that was used to purchase iPhoto or to set up the computer if it came preinstalled then quit iPhoto, backup your iPhoto library  and drag the iphoto application to the trash (do not empty the trash yet) and then go to the App store and install iPhoto - 9.5.1 in your case

  • Can't open iPhoto "To open your library with this version of iPhoto, it first needs to be prepared. To prepare the library, use the iPhoto Library Upgrader available from Apple." Doesn't work...

I've tried to open my iPhoto and a message box opens up and reads "To open your library with this version of iPhoto, it first needs to be prepared. To prepare the library, use the iPhoto Library Upgrader available from Apple." I update this and this message continues to pop up. I've even tried to rebuild it, but no matter what I do the same message appears and iPhoto still wpn't open. Can somebody please help me?!

i'm having the same problem with my iMac (Mac OS X 10.7.5) . i haven't really made any updates to it and yesterday when i tried to access the iPhoto library of my MBP (from my iMac) is when problems started. The iPhoto on the iMac initially said I need to install the recent version of the iPhoto. Since I can't find a 9.0 download, I went to buy the iPhoto on the App store.
When I tried to install iPhoto (version 9.4.3) to the iMac, I got this message:
The iPhoto Library Upgrader is a tool that prepares libraries from iPhoto 5 or earlier, so you can upgrade them with the current version of iPhoto. You can download the tool here.
Note: If your library is from iPhoto 6 or later, this tool is not required."
I then installed the iPhone Library Upgrader, but I got the same prompt:
'You can't open your current photo library using this version of the iPhoto. You have made changes to your library using a newer version of iPhoto. Please quit and use the latest version of iPhoto."
I guess this takes me back to square one? I am inclined to buy the iLife on eBay with the iPhoto 9.0 version, but needed to know if this is the case before I unfortunately bite the bullet.

Trying got update iPhoto after OS update - This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled.

With Yosemite you need to update to iPhoto 9.6.
The error message means, that iPhoto has not been associated with your AppleID. You do not say, which iPhoto version you are trying to update from.
Associating iPhoto with your AppleID should have happened, when you bought the computer with iPhoto preinstalled with MacOS X Lion or later or with the Mavericks upgrade, if your Mac came with SnowLeopard. Try, if you can "accept" iPhoto now:
Sign into the AppStore with your AppleID
Open the "Purchased" tab. Do you see iPhoto with an "Accept" button?
Accepting associates your Apple ID with the preinstalled iPhoto. It should move iPhoto from the "Accept" portion of the App Store to the "Purchased" tab. After that, you should be able to update iPhoto from the Updates tab of the AppStore. If you do you not see the update there, try to buy iPhoto. iPhoto may show for free, so you do not have to pay again.
Backup your iPhoto library, if you do not have a current backup.
Uninstall iPhoto by deleting it from the Applications folder, otherwise you cannot buy it again. But do not empty the Trash, so you can put iPhoto back, if need be.
After you update iPhoto, your iPhoto Library will need upgrading. Make a backup of your iPhoto Library, before you open iPhoto the first time after updating.

"This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled." ?
This error message will appear erraneously, if you skipped the update to Mavericks and iPhoto 9.5.1 and went straight from an earlier MacOS X version to Yosemite, without first updating to iPhoto 9.5.1 and associating iPhoto to your AppleID.
Try first to buy iPhoto with your AppleID instead of updating. Delete iPhoto from Applications, but don't empty the Trash, then go to the main page of the App Store and search for iPhoto. If you are lucky, it will show as free and you can buy it directly.
If iPhoto  is not showing as free, there is no help but contacting the App Store Support: Ask for a redemption code. You will need to provide a prove of purchase for your mac with iPhoto preinstalled.

  • IPhoto & iMovie update not available with this Apple ID

Hi everyone - I'm at a loss as to how to fix this issue...
I'm trying to update iPhoto and iMovie from the Mac App Store but I get the following error message:
Update unavailable with this Apple ID: This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled.
I've read the other threads about the apps being 'linked' to previous Apple IDs so I logged out and back in with an older / previous Apple ID that I had used before but it still wouldn't allow the update to the two apps - in fact the App Store said that the older ID hadn't even been used in the App Store.
I updated my OS to Yosemite yesterday so I don't know if that's affected anything?
Really hope someone can help - it's starting to frustrate me!
    Cheers
    Neil

Please test after each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Stop when the problem is resolved. Back up all data before making any changes. Keep in mind that no one here represents Apple or can help with customer-service issues.
    Step 1
A purchased app can only be updated by signing in to the App Store with the same Apple ID that was originally used to buy it. There's no way around that limitation, which also applies to free apps. If you can't sign in with the buyer's ID, delete the app and reinstall it. You'll have to pay for it again, if applicable.
    Step 2
If you get the alert when trying to update a bundled iLife app, select the Purchases page in the App Store and locate the app in your purchase history. If there's a button marked ACCEPT on the right, click it.
If you have a used Mac, the bundled apps were linked to the original owner's Apple ID and can't be transferred to you. Reportedly, customer service has issued redemption codes to some second owners who asked, but it's not guaranteed.
    Step 3
If you're trying to update iLife or iWork apps that were installed from a purchased DVD, or if you have a refurbished Mac bought directly from Apple, contact App Store customer service for a redemption code. You may be asked for the part number of the DVD.
    Step 4
From the App Store menu bar, select
              Store ▹ View My Account
Enter your Apple ID password at the prompt. At the lower right corner of the window that opens, click the Reset button. Close the window.

I only have 1 apple ID and the same was used to set up this early 2011 macbook pro and iPhoto app. I don't want to loose out on any photos. I tried logging out of app store and back in but no luck. PLEEAASEE HELPP!!!
This problem has been reported by quite a few forum members, who skipped the update to iPhoto 9.5.1 while running Mavericks. In that case try to purchase iPhoto again instead of updating.
After making your backup try the following:
Uninstall iPhoto by deleting it from the applications folder, but do not empty the Trash.
Launch the App Store, click the "Store" menu, and sign in with your AppleID.
Open the main page of the App Store and search for iPhoto.
If iPhoto is listed as "Free", click the "Free" button to buy it with your current AppleID.
If it is not showing as free, there is no help but contacting the App Store Support, as Niel pointed out: http://www.apple.com/support/mac/app-store/contact/

    HELP !!!
Did you upgrade to Yosemite, without first updating to iPhoto 9.5.1 in Mavericks? Then updating to 9.6 may not work - it is buggy at the moment.
If you already own a version of iPhoto 9.x.x, but cannot update iPhoto, try to buy a new version.  When I look at the AppStore, the price has now changed to "Free", so it should not matter if you buy again or update.
Delete iPhoto from Applications, but do not empty the Trash.
Go to the first page of the App Store and sign in with your AppleID.
Search for "iPhoto" using the Search field.
What does the button below the iPhoto icon show? If it is showing "Free" like for me, click "free" to purchase again.

  • I just upgraded from IPhoto7 to 9.5. Now I can't open iPhoto without a downloaded tool to bridge the gap bewteen versions. I downloaded the tool and I still get the message "To prepare the library, use the iPhoto Library Upgrader available from Apple."

I had to upgrade to Mavericks to send off the iCanendars I made in iPhoto. Then I had to upgrade my IPhoto from 7 to 9.5. Now when I go to open iPhoto I get the message "To prepare the library, use the iPhoto Library Upgrader available from Apple."  Well, I installed the Upgrader, but I still get the message and can't open iPhoto.  I have tried restarting the computer, but that didn't help.  How do I get the computer to recognize the Upgrader?
