Help! Iphoto won't launch.

I had installed iLife 08 on a new mbp, when the screen stopped working so I thought I would try reinstalling the operating system. I backed up all my apps using apples .mac backup to a hard drive, reinstalled, and then tried to restore the apps. My problem is that none of the 08 versions of ilife are opening now, includiong iphoto. I don't have my install cds with me, otherwise I would use those. Does anybody know what to do so that these apps will launch? They appear for a second in the dock and then vanish...

Silly question:
Have you tried launching them from their home in the Applications folder?
/Applications/iPhoto
If so, it also could be your launchservices being messed up. Can you launch Console in /Applications/Utilities? There may be something logged there that could be of use.

  • The icon is still here, but iphoto won't launch on my MacBookPro.

The icon is still here, but iphoto won't launch on my MacBookPro (Mac OSX 10.5.8).  I have iphoto 8.1.2 and used it just yesterday. I left-clicked the icon to quit and restart it, and there's a check by the command to indicate that happened,  but nothing opens up.  I tried to launch it through applications, but nothing. It's not minimized at the bottom of the screen either.  It's like it's invisible!

Hold Option key, open iPhoto and select the iPhoto library. If it doesn't help, reinstall iPhoto with the Applications disc that came with the computer

  • XI have just replaced my hard drive and uploaded my backup. Now iPhoto won't launch or reset and relaunch. Suggestions?

I have just replaced my hard drive (more memory) and uploaded my Time Machine backup. Now iPhoto won't launch or reset and relaunch. Suggestions?

Well without no information to work with, try reinstall.
    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
    2c: on 10.7 they're at
    /private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store or have a Recent Mac you can find it in your Purchases List.

  • Updated iPhoto won't launch..Someone, help please!

I just downloaded the newest version of iPhoto last night, and for some reason, it won't launch. The icon's there, and it bounces up and down when I click on it, but nothing happens and it won't open.  Does anyone know what the problem is and how to fix it?  Should I just remove it and try downloading again?  I'm afraid doing so might delete my photo library..!   Any suggestions are welcome.  Thanks!

    first: restart your mac.
    (run all the updates)
second: run repair permisions of your HD
    third: try again

  • Iphoto won't launch--HELP!

so...I don't know what happened, it always worked before. When I launch iPhoto I only get the spinning icon that says "Loading Photos" but the photos never come up. I've tried force quit, quit, everything. I even deleted the com.apple.iphoto.plist thing, but it still just turns and turns "loading" the pictures, frozen. I tried to save pictures from my e-mail into iPhoto, did that screw something up? is there an upgrade available for iPhoto 4.0.3?

I have the exact same problem. I haven't been able to get iPhoto to open. I simply wait for the spinning circle to stop & load images and nothing happens. I have tried reloading library by holding down the shift key & the options key at the same time while opening iPhoto and it begins the process of reloading images, but it unexpectedly quits.
I even reinstalled my system software, no help. I have check for system updates, nothing.
Can anybody help determine why iPhoto attempts to launch but never does? I am thinking I lost some file essential to iPhoto opening, but since reinstalling the systems disk didn't work I don't know what gives.
    Please help?!!

  • IPhoto won't launch! And yes I've updated everything.

iPhoto won't work all of a sudden this week. When I try to launch it, the rainbow wheel just hangs there forever, and the grey and white background of iPhoto (minus all the photos) hangs there uselessly behind it.
It worked just last week!  I tried installing all updates on my Macbook, and it still won't launch.
It stopped working right after I allowed my Apple tv to update itelf actually.
Another thing that happened since I allowed my Apple tv and my Macbook to both install all updates is that my music is no longer available through Apple TV, even though I paid the annual fee to have my music available in the cloud at all times.  It just says, "syncing purchased music: your purchased music is curretnly being synced to your Apple TV"...and has said so for a few days now.
I am guessing there is a problem with the updates somehow?
I've tried the suggestion I read about in some other threads about holding down the command and option keys while launching iphoto, but still no luck.  Rainbow wheel of death and iPhoto stays on the grey/white blank screen.
    Any advice is appreciated.

Back up your iPhoto library, Depress and hold the option (alt) and command keys and launch iPhoto - rebuild your iPhoto library database
Be sure to Hold the option and command keys down until the first aid screen comes up

  • IPhoto won't launch

iPhoto icon is in dock and shows up under applications but when i click on it , it won't launch. also, all my iPhoto files are in my hardrive but i can't seem to open iphoto.

    CMeizlik:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. What version of iPhoto are you using? Also what exactly does the iPhoto icon do, if anything, when you click on it in the dock?

  • IPhoto won't launch for a user

iPhoto (9.4.3) won't launch for one of the users on our iMac running OS X Lion 10.7.5
We have two user accounts both with Admin previleges. For one of the accounts, iPhoto works fine. For the other account, it just won't launch iphoto and we don't get any error message when launching it from the dock. However, when launching iPhoto from a terminal window (/Applications/iPhoto.app/Content/MacOS/iphoto) the error is:
    illegal instruction: 4.
I've trashed the iphoto preference file...no joy. I've also tried launching iPhoto while holding down the option key...also no joy.
    Any suggestions?

I have removed everything from my user library and reinstalled InDesign. Now InDesign begins to launch, but then crashes when it gets to the 'Starting up Service Registry' line on the application screen. Any thoughts? My call to apple has yielded a 'we've done everything we can do' response.

  • IPhoto won't launch anymore.

    Hi folks,
I recently had to create a new admin account for my dual quad-core G5 (OS 10.4.11) and then do an archive-and-install from the original system disks, then recreate my original admin account. All previous settings are saved in a "Previous Systems" folder on my HD.
Since doing this, I've needed to change permissions on a few things to bring them back to my original admin account, but one thing that I'm having a problem with is iPhoto. I launch it from the dock, it bounces twice, then stops. Same thing happens when launching from the app menu itself.
I've trashed the com.apple.iphoto preferences, but that didn't help... still, I'm unable to launch iPhoto. I feel like this might be a permissions issue somewhere, but I'm really not sure what's keeping the app from launching.
Does anyone have a suggestion about what might be wrong?'
    Kirby

  • IPhoto won't launch after 10.4.9 update

I updated via software update to 10.4.9, but now iPhoto won't open. It sits at the "loading photos" screen for a minute or two with a spinning beach ball and then quits. I tried reinstalling the update from apple's website but that didn't help either. Thankfully, the pictures are still on the hard drive.
    What to do?
    15" MacBook Pro 2.33GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I just spent a few hours on the phone w/ Apple Care, we did end up ditching that file, as well as a few others. Lets just say this, I am now forced to rebuild my library from the Originals folder.
It's my own fault for not backing up before updating. Stupid.

  • Macbook with 10.7.4 running slow and iPhoto won't launch

My Macbook was running very slow, so i verified and repaired permissions.   After I did that iPhoto will not launch.   I attached my LaCie on USB port and went into Time Machine.  Then went to the last backup and started restore.  It has been restoring iPhoto for 19 hrs.   My question is should I stop the Restore (not really sure it is restoring), then attempt to verify and repair permissions again?   I am thinking there may have been a problem with the last repairing disk permission?  I have 12GB left on MacBook

This seems like a very common issue! I purchased the OS X Lion the very next day after its release.. used it for a few days on my Macbook Pro.. I also updated all my applications (adobe, office, ilife etc) to make it run smoothly and compatible on the Lion.. but after a month or so, my machine became like the first macintosh Mr. Jobs made.. VERYYY SLOOWW!!!!! it would take 5-7 minutes to boot up, and the dock wud also take time!! The beach ball occupied my screen so much time, that I even forgot how the normal cursor looked like!
I decided to upgraded my RAM to 8GB, but same problem! I had like thousands of mails and didnt even find any solution to downgrade back to leopard!
I wasted almost a week to re-install snow leopard and all my applications!! and luckily google apps saved me with all my mails! Since then I have been ignoring every single update! I am happy with snow leopard!!
LION IS VERYY BUGGY! I wasted my $30 odd bucks!!! I often search for freezing beach ball lion!!! and seems there is no solution till now... NEVER GOING TO UPGRADE!!!

  • Iphoto won't launch! help please

I brought my macbook air today and after updating to yosemite my iPhoto has a line through it and won't open I've tried to reinstall on app store but apparently the app doesn't exist in the uk can anyone help with this please??

iPhoto (and Aperture) have been deprecated by a new app installed if you have updated to OS X 10.10.3. It's in the Apps folder and is called Photos.

  • IPhoto won't launch. Please help.

Asking for to run Software Update to install. But when I run Software Updates from the Apple menu, none are available when prompted. Also, when I visit the Purhcased section on the App Store, it says iPhoto is already fully installed. But it's not working. Confused.
    Mac OS X 10.7.4
    Thanks for any help.

    first: restart your mac.
    (run all the updates)
second: run repair permisions of your HD
    third: try again

  • NEED HELP- iPhoto won't open

I had no problems with my iPhoto and then the other day I went to open it and it says that "The photo library was created with an unreleased version of iPhoto. Please quit and upgrade by opening in iPhoto 2 or iPhoto 4".
    I checked and I have version 5.0.4.
What should I do? I tried downloading iPhoto2 but it says there is nothing to install. I cannot find iPhoto4 to download.
I am not the MOST computer savy person that exists...sooo PLEASE HELP!!!! I have read that other people have had this problem, I just never say any answers....

    Hi Tish,
So far I have not seen any solution for that error message in these discussions. If you have a recent backup of your iPhoto Library folder then take the old library out of the Pictures folder and put your backup library in there (I suggest you backup the backup before you do this) Launch iPhoto and hopefully everything will be back to normal. If you don't have a backup then...
The only thing I can tell you to do right now is to create a new library and import/add to the library to reimport your images.
    these are the steps:
    Close iPhoto
Drag the iPhoto Library folder to the desktop
    Launch iPhoto
In the next window that opens choose to create a new library.
When the new empty library opens go to File/add to library
In the next window navigate to the library on your desktop and choose it.
Your images will be imported in nice dated rolls. (make sure your view is set to sort by rolls to see it) There are a couple of caveats to this. You will get rolls named "Originals" These rolls will contain your video clips and your original images that you had edited. If you had RAW files they would be in those rolls too (I don't do RAW, so I don't know for sure) Delete what you don't want from those rolls. You will also get the jpeg pointer files to your video clips imported. They will just be jpegs and will not point to the video clips anymore as iPhoto made new ones when the clips were imported again. You can delete those. they should be in a roll right next to the newly imported video clips so they are not hard to find. The thumbnail files don't get imported as iPhoto makes new ones when the images are imported.
You will have to redo your albums, keywords, etc.
    Good luck!
