  • IPod 5th gen not charging

Hello guys. Today I connected my iPod 5th gen to the charger and I noticed it wasn't charging. This started today. Someone please help me. I appreciate every tip and help I recieve.

Hey Suhey, first inspect the charging port, your looking for foreign debris, lint, dirt etc. anything that could be blocking an electrical connection, if you see something try to carefully remove it. Just be careful not to touch or bend or damage the pins. If you must use a wooden toothpick to remove any foreign debris from the port and inspect the port for visible damage, cracks, missing pieces, etc. If not the issue, then try a different cable. The lighting cables have a history of breaking, shorting out. They will look just fine, but not work. If not the issue with the new cable try a different charging device. If still not working, attempt a reset, press and hold both the power and home buttons until the Apple logo appears, about 10 seconds +/-, then release both buttons.  If you can still turn on your iPod go into Settings>General>Reset then tap Reset All Settings. If still not charging connect to your computer and make backups of the stuff you have on your iPod then Restore from Backup last resort, Restore to New. If that doesn't work try letting your iPod drain completely, go dead then attempt to charge. If still not working, contact your Apple store or Apple Genius Bar and have your iPod evaluated. Good luck, Cheers.

My ipod 5th gen doesnt charge or turn on. There is no damage to the ipod, i have tried resetting it, connecting to itunes and troubleshooting but no luck. When charging the ipod gets warm but still wont turn on or charge. Can anyone help please?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • IPod fifth gen. not charging neither connecting to computer

I am having the exact same problem. I have a dell Latitude D510 running XP pro. Please help. My daughter will be traveling to perform in the Rose Bowl Parade this year and it has become at must fix! All I have is a blank screen (dark) as though it is off. I just replaced the battery, thinking that was the problem. That did not change anything.

  • Ipod Touch 5th Gen Not Charging - FIXED

I'm pretty tech savy but couldn't figure out why my 5th Gen Ipod Touch with the Lightning connector would not charge when plugged in via USB. Sometimes wiggling the connector would work but eventually it had stopped. I've tried blowing into the the connector port of the Ipod, I've even used a magnifying glass to inspect for damaged pins and what not and could not find anything wrong.
Eventually I decided to take a toothpick and scrape the internal Ipod connector hoping that it would clean any dirty contacts, doing so revealed that my connector port was loaded with lint from my pants pocket. I ended up picking out a good amount of lint that was not noticeable using the magnifying glass and not affected by blowing into the port of the Ipod Touch, after removing the obstruction the Ipod now charges normally.
NOTE: Do NOT attempt this cleaning method using a metal object such as a pin due to the risk of shorting out the unit, a wooden toothpick worked perfect for my situation.
    Hope this method helps someone.

    Good advice Jem24,
I would like to add when using compressed air when cleaning out any electronic device, please make sure the device is completely cooled down and not hot to the touch, Hot solid state components do not like cold compressed air and will damage the solid state chips if cooled too quickly. I found this out the hard way by blowing dust out of my desktop pc's and damaging the power supply components inside.

  • Ipod 5th Gen not recognised on any computer - will charge via usb

    Hi,
Does anyone have a fix for my ipod which is not recognised by any computer. Have tried the software reset, putting into disk mode, but no computer will see it as a device. The ipod will however charge by the usb.
I have tried another 5th Gen on the same computer which is recognised everytime.
Cannot use the system restore as the computer does not recognise it..
    I need helpppppp!!
    Thanks
    Jimmy

You've pretty much exhausted everything so it is time to get it serviced. Is it in warranty?

  • Why does my ipod touch 5th gen not charge when plugged into my computer? (it keeps stuttering(lightning symbol next to bettery goes on and off literally every second))

so I have my ipod touch 5th gen connect and the little lightning symbol, next to the battery on the top left, keeps flashing on and off every second. I don't know what to do and also it doesn't show up on iTunes.

Hey Ed, Try trouble shooting 101. Do you have a different cable and/or charging device? If so, try the different cable first, then a different charging device. If the problem goes away, I'd say it's the cable, replace it. If with in 1 from date of purchase, Apple will replace for free if the cable is found to be defective. If the problem continues with a different cable or a different charging device, then the problem is with your iPod. With a strong light and a magnifying glass look in the iPod's charging port. Your looking for damage in and around the port. Is the port lose? (shouldn't be). Are pieces missing or damaged? Bent or damaged contact pins can do what you describe. Foreign debris, namely pocket lint or corrosion can also cause charging issues. If you see something like lint, try to blow it out, or if you must use a non-conductive probe, I find a round wooden toothpick works well to carefully remove the lint from the bottom of the port. Just be careful to not touch, bend or damage the gold contact pins on the long side of the port. Also make sure the locking pins on the short ends (looks like two silver bumps, one on each end) of the port are free to move. If you find corrosion, try plugging / unplugging about 12 times to clean the contacts off. If you must use a cotton swab cut to fit, with a drop of 91% isopropyl alcohol on it, you want it damp, not wet, then plug it in and out until the swab comes out clean. You will most likely need several swabs. If you find nothing physically wrong, then try resetting your iPod. If that does not work, restore from backup, last resort, make a backup then restore to new, a full factory restore. If issue continues see your Apple store and have it evaluated for a possible hardware issue. But start with a different or new cable. Good luck, Cheers.

  • IPod 5th generation not charging

So i downloaded iOS8 and now my iPod will not charge. I've tried different outlets and even computer won't charge. I've soft reset it and I even restored it to see if it helps and it doesn't help. on iOS 7.1.2 it could charge in an hour or less and now if I ca get to charge it takes about 5 hours and it's still not 100%. It's not a hardware problem because it started the same evening I downloaded iOS 8. But I relally need to fix this since it's only a 2 month old iPod and I AM NOT willing to pay to have it fixed so soon after purchase! please help! Btw it shows as connected but it doesn't charge.

I suspect it may be a problem/bug in the iOS 8.  With iOS 7 it seems that the iPod indicated it was fully changed too fast and maybe Apple fixed that in iOS 8.
You can wait for iOS update or:
    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • Ipod 5th Gen not showing iOS7 update.

I went to upgrade my Son's ipod touch 5th gen, and it would not give me the option to upgrade to ios7. It showed the software running was 6.1.3 and that it was up to date. The model of his ipod is MD720LL/A. Thought all 5th gens got iOS7?

Apple's servers may be busy right now. Try again in a few hours.

  • IPod 5th Gen not waking up and battery life effected by iPod 1.2.1 update.

So I've been waiting for an update to the iPod software hoping that enough people have complained enough about the issues the 1.2.1 software update is causing. My particular iPod is a 5th Gen 60 gig. I've been using iPod software version 1.1 for some time now. I've updated my iPod to version 1.2 & 1.2.1 on many different occasions each time having the exact same result and having to take it back to the previous software version.
After updating the iPod a few different things happen. First and most importantly the iPod consistently will not wake up after it goes to sleep. In order for me get it to come back to life I have to hard restart it using the Menu + Center buttons. It can go to sleep after I unplug it from my Mac or even after I pause a song and it will not come back without a Hard Restart.
This probably wouldn't be so bad except for the fact that it resets my ratings and even worse while the iPod is in this state of not waking up the battery drains at a rapid pace as though the iPod is using power even though its completely non responsive.
Also the iPod refuses to play any of the new games downloadable from iTunes. I've downloaded a few games such as Pac-Man etc. When I attempt to access them the iPod freezes and becomes unusable. Its still on and I can see the backlighting as well as feel the HD spinning but becomes completely unresponsive and must be Hard Reset.
So this has basically been my experience with the 1.2.x software updates. I was hoping that Apple would have an update available by now that would squash all of these bugs but they have not and so I'm posting here now in the hopes that both Apple will recognize the issue and maybe some one out there has a temporary fix for the issue.

On my 5th Gen iPod video, to wake it from hibernation, pressing the select button by itself works for me. I had concerns http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=4555675#4555675 that something may be wrong because pressing play/pause won't wake it from hibernation.

  • Ipod 5th gen not updating ios 7.1 via wifi and itunes.

That sounds like a problem with your internet connection
Try disabling the computer's antivirus and firewall.
    - Next try the manual install method of:

  • IPod 5th gen stopped charging in the middle of a charge.

I was charging my iPod touch last night and in the middle of the charge, it stopped and gave me the "This cable or accessory is not certified and may not work reliably with this iPod."  It'll do this even when I plug the charger into the port but not to any power source.  It's now almost dead and I really need my iPod to charge. I've already tried resetting and clearing the debris out of the port.  I'm not sure what else to do.

  • NEED URGENT HELP! iPod 5th gen not restoring or recovering!

About a week ago I tried to downgrade my iPod Touch 5th generation from either iOS 8.3 or 8.1.3 to iOS 8.1.1 as the update was causing me problems. In the middle of it working, my Wi-Fi dropped and the entire process stopped working. It also caused my iPod to enter recovery mode. Every time I have tried to restore it, update it, or update and restore it, none of it works. The progress bar will start to work but after a few minutes various error messages pop up. I have looked up everything I could online and nothing has worked. I have done various things from changing the hosts files on my Windows computer to updating iTunes and to whatever else but still nothing has worked for fixing the problem to my iPod. I even had friend take my iPod and try it on his computer, as one of the solutions I found was to use a different computer, but not even that has worked. I have been at this for a week and its very frustrating and it would just be simply amazing if someone could help me figure out what's wrong and how to fix it. It would be beyond greatly appreciated as my iPod is very important to me.

Sounds like you hosed up your iPod.. That sometimes happens when using jailbreaking methods to downgrade the IOS.
Downgrading the iOS is not supported by Apple.
Jailbreaking voids the Apple warranty and also means that you will not get any support from Apple, including from this Apple forum. Jailbreaking can't be discussed in this Apple forum.

  • IPod 5th Generation not charging properly after IOS 8 update...

    Hello,
I was wondering if anybody has had this problem since the update or even with out the update.
Ever since I updated my IPod to the new IOS 8 I have had trouble charging it. I would plug in the lightning cable and it would show that it is charging with the little symbol but it seems to lose charge while it is plugged in instead of actually charging, even though it says it is. It's also taking a lot longer to charge now that it is doing this and I was just wondering if anyone else might be having this problem or knows how to fix it.
    Thank you,
    Miranda.

    No problems here.
Please tell me that it has NEVER been jailbroke.  If it has not been jailbroke, here are some standard repair procedures:
First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow the on-screen directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore (or it doesn't help), go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.  You WILL lose all of your data (game scores, etc,) but, for the most part, you can redownload apps and music without being charged again.  Also, read this.
