Help Ipod crashes Itunes!

Okay heres my issue my ipod when plugged into any computer (and try delete music or put music on it crashes) it just completely freezes (and I have to do the whole process of 'Ctrl Alt Delete' end process due to the program is not responding) It happens like this,
The Ipod works for awhile, corporates but If i try, disconnect the ipod using the Itunes feature
I will just crash, If i try to use the safely remove hardware it just comes up with this error message (The device 'generic volume' cannot be stopped right now. Try stopping the device later)
If i try delete music it crashes (if i delete the music without the program crashing and then pulled out the plug without disconnecting it and now the music is on there but wont play, and if i delete it I cant safely disconnect it I have to just pull it start out and the music stays there but don't play, It comes up i itunes with the (''!'') if front if it.
If i manage to get to the point of being able to delete the music and start putting new stuff on it just dose not disconnect, If i try use the 'safely remove hardware' Same error as above, If i try to disconnect it using itunes it just crashes the program and the ipod goes back to having the same music i tryd to delete and none of the new music, I think its my ipod because I've tryd it on several different computers
I cant restore the Ipod back to normal and start again because that to just crashes Itunes
The ipod seems to work fine exect the whole issue of it crashes itunes when ever you try to do anything related to my ipod

I have the exact same problem, I think. When I disconnect my iPod using the eject feature my iPod crashes and cannot be used. I then have to put it in disc mode and restore factory settings. I have (throuhg lots of time) found that certain albums are causing the problem. Occasionally I get a message saying "iPod could not be ejected because some files are being used in another application". Not sure where or why, but by not putting this on my iPod it works fine. Im trying to find a solution to this file issue. In the mean time I can only suggest managing the music yourself and trying to find the problematic album.

  • One of my ipods crashes itunes, other is ok!

Okay so my problem lies with my 160GB Ipod Classic. It worked fine on the older versions of itunes and for some reason has decided to completely break after the update. I'm running windows 8 and have just got a brand new laptop, itunes has been working fine with my (older) 4GB Ipod Nano, syncs as it should etc. but as soon as I plug in my classic it tells me there's an error and I must scan and fix, I do this and it crashes itunes entirely. I cannot click on anything, I cannot shut the window or minimize it, it's just stuck on my screen. Even when trying to shut down my computer it won't do it because it cannot shut Itunes! I have to turn it off with the button and it can't properly shut down. I have tried again and again to get it working. It works alright on disk mode where i've been able to format it and also return it to factory settings using Itunes, but as soon as it starts to reboot and connect back to itunes - it crashes again! Although it only crashes itunes and leaves the rest of my computer working fine, it's very annoying to have a broken itunes window stuck on my screen so I keep restarting it (and failing!) I feel like i've tried everything, I wish I'd never tried to sync it because it was completely fine prior with songs and videos! Now it's completely empty and useless. Can anyone help me?

  • Ipod crashes itunes when ejecting

Almost everytime I hit the iPod eject button in iTunes, the iTunes crashes.
    Versions:
    MacBook (black)
    OS X 10.4.9
    iTunes 7.1.1 (5)
    iPod nano (1st gen) 1.3.1
I have filed several crash reports do apple. Does anyone else has the same problem?

I heard about lots of people having iPod crash problems with iTunes 7.1
Try upgrading to iTunes 7.2 and see if that helps.

  • Ipod crashes itunes

hi there i just want to say how disapointed i am with apple mac i upgraded my itunes to 7.01 the current version and now every time i try and connect my ipod to itunes it crashes itunes is there an explaination for this or is it just apple macs programers once again not checking software throughly before they upload it on the net? i'm now without a ipod once again as it has crashed and i had to reformat it

happened to me as well, what the issue was, was that I had codec packs installed on my computer, and the itunes installation comes with quicktime and the codec pack interferes with the quicktime installation and crashes itunes.

  • Trying to transfer purchases from iPod crashes iTunes

My laptop was recently stolen along with my backup, so my iPod (Classic, 120 GB) is the only copy of my digital music. I'm trying to transfer my iTunes purchases from the iPod to the new computer's hard drive, but it crashes iTunes every time I try to do this.
I transferred most of my music (around 8900/9000 tracks) using a 3rd party program, since most of my music was burned from CDs, and that managed to get most of my iTunes store purchases as well. However, the last 100 songs include several iTunes tracks. They won't transfer with either iTunes, Music Rescue, or MediaWidget.
Anyone have any suggestions for a way of transferring my remaining files (especially the iTunes ones)?

Since I am not having that problem, I'm not sure it will work.
But one thing you can do is open itunes with a completely blank library. See if those purchases will transfer into a blank library. Article on making a new library:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1589
Make sure you only press the transfer purchases or things will go VERY wrong. But I think you know that.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848
DO NOT PRESS ERASE AND SYNC.
Also - was that 3rd party program free, or something you paid for? The free ones I've tried have had some problems. If you paid for it, I would ask for support on getting those 100 lost tracks.
Just curious, which 3rd-party ipod manager was it?

  • After itunes 6.0.2 and 1-10 updater - both ipods crash itunes when updating

    I'm annoyed.
I upgraded my to iTunes 6.0.2 (Windows XP) and ran the 1-10 updater on two ipods - a mini and a 20GB pre-photo model (I guess that's a 3rd gen?). After doing so, iTunes crashes when updating begins. If I plug an ipod in without iTunes, everything is OK and I can see the unit and directory structure in Explorer. When the ipod is disconnected and I run iTunes, everything is fine - no problems. But when you connect an ipod, iTunes sees it, and then shows "Updating ipod", it sits like that for awhile, then I hear the hard drive in the iPod click, and a few seconds later I get:
"iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close" etc. etc.
I tried doing a restore of one of my ipods (the 3rd gen) to the 2005-11-17 firmware by running that updater and doing "Restore". The problem is still happening, but now my ipod is empty because I did the restore!
Unfortunately, I can't tell what the problem is - iTunes or the 1-10 update.
Has anyone else had any problems like this? Any ideas? Can I downgrade iTunes?
    Please help!
    Chris

Has anyone come up with a method to resolve this issue? I uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes, and no luck.
One very obvious thing I can see is that 2006-1-10 update clearly bombs iTunes fast. I downgrade my firmware to 2005-11-17 and it appears to want to update. I'm attempting to update again (about the 30th time since I've had this problem a few days ago). Let's see how it goes since I've actually done this before... One thing I'm doing differently though is syncing just the podcasts, no music. It shouldn't make a difference, but maybe there's something odd in there with DRM?
Another observation - when I connected the iPod with the My Computer window open, I saw the H: drive (my ipod) appear for a few seconds. It then disappeared from there, iTunes came up, and then reappeared. iTunes tried to sync, but then bombed out.
    I hope this helps someone..
I can't believe that Apple hasn't responded to this issue yet. This has to be impacting more than a few hundred users on this site.

  • My old iPod crashes iTunes 7

    This is my iPod:
    year: 2003
    size: 15GB
    s/n: JQ4140HLQQG
    model: P9460LL
    version: 2.3
So whats happens is I can connect fine to the iTunes and see my playlists and even can drag files from my iTunes HD library to my iPod. The problem occurs everytime i want to look at my iPod's music Library. I'll click Library and then iTunes shuts down without any messages or errors.
Please let me know if there is a fix.

  • Connecting older iPod crashes iTunes

I sold my 20GB iPod (originally purchased late 2002) to a buddy of mine. I did a complete restore to factory settings to it, but whenever he plugs it into his MacBook (via firewire), iTunes completely crashes. If I plug it into my MacBook, everything happens as it should.
Everything is current on his machine (OS X 10.5.5, iTunes 8).
I had him repair permissions via the Disc Utility on his hard drive, but the crashes still occur.
Any idea what will fix this?

    Anyone?

  • 80g Ipod crashes Itunes after being filled up past 11.6 gigs.

    Hi there,
The ipod in question refuses to fill up past 11 gigs and when it gets to that point it just stops transferring, ultimately resulting in itunes crashing.
Has anyone else had this problem or a possible solution? I've tried restoring and erasing the drive using disc utility.
    Cheers.

Yes I have a similar problem, though mine gets to about 13GB before freezing. Is yours also 6th generation iPod classic? When did this problem start for you?
This only happened since I upgraded to iTunes 9. I suspect that when iTunes 9 said my iPod was corrupt and forced me to restore it via iTunes 9 this put some kind of virus on my iPod which prevents the harddrive from skipping bad sectors (as it had done perfectly well prior to the forced upgrade with iTunes 9). Presumably my bad sectors are at 13GB and yours are at 11GB?
Anyone have any great ideas to fix this? I have tried everything possible (reformatting, erasing data etc etc) but something is preventing me from reverting back to my pre-iTunes 9 state of having a working iPod not a very expensive brick.

Some of the information below has subsequently appeared in a document by turingtest2: Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device - https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991
Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was designed for you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchased content.
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848 - only media purchased from iTunes Store
For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you will have to use third party commercial software. Examples (check the web for others; this is not an exhaustive listing, nor do I have any idea if they are any good):
    - Senuti - http://www.fadingred.com/senuti/

  • PLEASE HELP - Ipod Showing In My Comp But Not Itunes Etc

    Hi there
Can someone PLEASE help me! I am at my wits end with my Ipod.
A few weeks ago I was in the middle of listening to a song and my ipod crashed then switched itself off. Ever since then I haven't been able to get it to connect to Itunes or the Updater and it won't play anything.
When I switch the ipod on I get various errors ranging from the unhappy ipod to the folder with the exclamation mark.
When I connect my ipod to my pc an autoplay window appears and sometimes I get an error saying the drive my ipod is connected to isn't formatted.
So far I have tried the following
    Reinstalled Itunes
Going into Disk Management and changing the Drive the ipod uses
    Reset The Ipod
    Tried Using Another USB Port
Put the Ipod Into Disk Mode
Nothing Works! After I changed the drive the ipod uses things looked promising. The Ipod was detected by the updater and it was started to restore the ipod however after a few minutes the ipod seemed to lose the connection and I got the error with the Battery icon.
    Can someone please help me!

"my dad pressed view and then he chose the 3rd picture thing and songs went into."
Sorry, I don't know what that means.
Have you had a chance to look through these?
USB drivers are not installed properly or are out of date.
iTunes 7 doesn't recognize the iPod.

  • IPod Classic won't sync and crashes iTunes. Suggestions?

Hi, hopefully someone can help me!
I have a 80GB iPod classic for 3/4 years, never had any syncing issues until now that weren't fixable by a reset.
However a few days ago I was at my parents' house and charged my iPod using their computer. The first time there was the standard message "This iPod is synced with another library" etc etc but subsequently it crashed iTunes. It was recognised by the computer as a portable media device, all the normal folders were there etc.
Now that I'm with my regular laptop, I'm having the same issues but have realised that the iPod won't sync. It crashes iTunes when it's connected and when I disconnect the iPod, should iTunes works but it displays the message: "The iPod cannot be synced. The required folder could not be found"
Any suggestions on how to fix this? I've tried updated my iTunes software and resetting the iPod (pushing menu and centre), but neither has had an effect.
Edit: I should add that since charging the iPod on the other computer, I have also had issues with the click wheel, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
    Thanks in advance!

  • I can't acess or edit music on my iPod through iTunes...help please!

    Hey,
Recently I haven't been able to select or edit the music that's currently on my iPod, my iPod appears in the left hand menu bar but all the music is greyed out and inaccessible.
I can't figure out why it has suddenly done this, but I think it may have something to do with a small symbol of a locked pad-lock that has appeared by the bar telling me how many GB's I'm currently using and how many I have free.
Hopefully this print screen of my iTunes will help to explain what has happened: (sorry it is such bad quality!)
I know the solution is probably just a simple click of a button but, I've been trawling through all the iPod options trying to find a solution, and have been unsuccessful. I thought it might be due to the parental controls but the lock for that is unlocked and I've never set a password.
My brother is now using my old iPod mini on the same computer but a different user account...may that have something to do with it?
I am puzzled and confused, I hope you can help, any advice would be gratefully received!
Thanks for taking the time to read this,

I found this answer a few topics further in. It worked for me, hope it works for you.
I just changed my iPod from auto update to manually update, and the list is no longer grayed out. So that is what is stopping you, your iPod options are set for auto update.
Do the above in iTunes and everything comes up able to play.
    Thanks Katrina.S for this.
