Please, don't tell me that I need to send mine to repair. I bought my Pod in London, but now I'm back to Brazil. Nobody here seems to know what I have to do. Can somebody helpe me????? I can't turn it on. the screen always with the exclamation point!!!

Help! IPOD displaying Folder with Exclamation Point ICON

I haven't used my IPOD Nano in about a year, and when I turned it on today (after charging), the only thing that displays is an icon of a folder with an exclamation point in a triangle. I can't get this icon to go away even after resetting it. I'd like to restore to factory settings, but my PC isn't recognizing the IPOD (yes, I downloaded the most current version of ITUNES and the IPOD doesn't show up there as a source).

my ipod has lately shown a folder with a question mark inside of it when it was started (immediately after the apple symbol).
Now it shows me, after the apple symbol disappears, a line (from one end of the screen to the other).
I have an ipod which was introduced in 2003. It has 4 buttons below the screen and below that a wheel. It´s a 20GB.
I would really appreciate it, if some could help me out and give me some advice.

so ive got some major ipod problems. cant get rid of sad ipod so i put into disk mode. then it changed to the exclamation point folder thingy. tried restoring it but my itunes either freezes up or doesnt show my ipod when i plug it in (whether its on disk mode or regular.) PLEASE HELP!!!!!!

3. Go to Tab “Erase” , choose Volume Format as “MAC OS Extended (Journaled), and click Erase, again if fails, skip it and go to 4
4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
6. Open the iTunes 7 and click “Restore”
For Window computer
Go to folder “My Computer”
Hope you can see your iPod there and right click on the iPod
Choose “Format”. Ensure the settings are at “Default” and that “Quick Format” is not checked
Now select “Format”
Eject your iPod and do a Reset
Open the iTunes 7 and click “Restore”

C. Windows users having trouble with their iPods should locate a Mac user. In many cases when an iPod won't show up on a PC that it will show up on the Mac. Then it can be restored. When the PC user returns to his computer the iPod will be recognized by the PC, reformatted for the PC, and usable again. By the way, it works in reverse too. A Mac user often can get his iPod back by connecting it to a PC and restoring it.
Tips
a. It does not matter whether the format is completed or not, the key is to erase (or partly) the corrupted firmware files on the Hard Drive of the iPod. After that, when the iPod re-connected with a computer, it will be recognized as an fresh external hard drive, it will show up on the iTunes 7.

If you have tried trouble shooting your iPod to no avail after all the steps above, chances are your iPod has a hardware problem. The iPod's built-in Diagnostic Mode is a quick and easy way to determine if you have a "bad" iPod.
You need to restart your iPod before putting it into Diagnostic Mode. Check that your hold switch is off by sliding the switch away from the headphone jack. Toggle it on and off to be safe.
Press and hold the following combination of buttons simultaneously for approximately 10 seconds to reset the iPod.
iPod 1G to 3G: "Menu" and "Play/Pause"
iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Menu" and "Select"
The Apple logo will appear and you should feel the hard drive spinning up. Press and hold the following sequence of buttons:
iPod 1G to 3G: "REW", "FFW" and "Select"

You will hear an audible chirp sound (3G models and higher) and the Apple logo should appear backwards. You are now in Diagnostic Mode. Navigate the list of tests using "REW" and "FFW". Try to do the 5in1, HDD R/W and HDD scan tests. Some successful cases have been reported after the running the few tests under the Diagnostic mode. In case it does not work in your case, and the scan tests reports show some errors then it proves your iPod has a hardware problem and it needs a repairing service.
B. Format your iPod with a start disk
I have not tried this solution myself, I heard that there were few successful cases that the users managed to get their iPod (you must put your iPod in disk mode before connecting with a computer) mounted by the computer, which was booted by a system startup disk. For Mac, you can use the Disk Utility (on the Tiger OS system disk), for PC user, you can use the window OS system disk. Try to find a way to reformat your iPod, again it does not matter which format (FAT32, NTFS or HFS+) you choose, the key is to erase the corrupted system files on the iPod. Then eject your iPod and do a Reset to switch out from Disk Mode. Reboot your computer at the normal way, connect your iPod back with it, open the iPod updater, and hopefully your iPod will appear there for the Restore.
If none of these steps address the issue, your iPod may need to be repaired.

My ipod resets itself each time that I try to turn it on, and then flashes the folder with the exclamation point. I have tried to restore it and update software but the computer won't recognize it. Help. flashing gray folder with question mark on startup, then no startup.

on startup, macbook pro showed flashing gray folder with question mark, but no startup. after several retries, now shows circle with diagonal diameter, and still no startup. worked fine yesterday. suggestions?

Hi! I had the same problem as you. (I had a 2004 emac) all i had to do to boot it up was press enter and that seemed to do the trick but a grey folder might signify your missing files (Computer is broken) or its a network startup. Try it out!

IPod mini went through wash and displays folder with exclamation point HELP

My friend has an ipod mini and i guess it went through the wash and now it will turn on but it displays the folder and exclamation point. I tried resetting it with menu and select but it goes right back to the folder after reset. I have already read apples document so please don't post it. My question is do you think it is the logic board or hard drive that needs to be replaced? It seems if it were the logic board then it wouldn't turn on at all. I'm just trying to figure out if it's worth fixing or not. Is there any way i can tell for sure which component is bad? Thanks

Erm i dno bout the hard board n logic disc etc. im just like awful wiv stuff like dis but i got the same problem n i like tried restorin it n alsorts over n over, which i did when i managed 2 get this b4 n i got it twice with this ipod n it a brand new replaced 1.

New iPod showing Folder with exclamation point

I have successfully downloaded music because it shows on iTunes but everytime I go to turn it on it shows the Apple icon and then says www.apple.com/support/ipod with a folder and an exclamation point. I've visited and tried it all and it won't do anything else.

Help! Blinking folder with question mark and Mac Logo

Out of nowhere when I turned on my Powerbook G4 laptop the other day, the sound chimed like it was turning on, however instead of loading up, I saw a blank screen with a little file folder in the middle and the icon on the folder changed from a question mark to the mac logo back and forth. I have no idea what to do here. Help please!

I already tried rebooting, taking out the battery and putting it back in. Nothing has worked so far.

Not from doing what I've suggested. The computer has basic instructions on the chip which tell it what to do next after you press start - i.e. start OSX from a particular place on the hard drive. Hopefully, what I've suggested will enable the machine to do that and wall will be well
It is possible that your hard-drive has failed or is about to fail - I advise as soon as you can get the machine started to back-everything up.
If it does not start, you may have a hard drive failure. In which case you can try several tools which may manage to get the drive back up, or at least recover the data. If you are near an Apple Store, you could go in and see if they can start the machine from a Firewire External drive with OS X on it - they may be able to see some of the data and copy it for you.
But try what I suggested first and let's see what the issues really are before going into disaster mode

I have Apple TV, 15" Macbook Pro 10.7.5 (Software Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 (11G63) and want to use Samsung Smart TV LED Series 6, for display wirelessly. In System Preferences it has tab for "Detect Displays" but nothing happens. Is there something else to do? I specifically want to use Samsung TV for 2nd display from my Macbook Pro. Help Please o wise Apple People!

My MacBook displays folder with a "?" at start up. How do I address this?

MY question is in the title.

There are four general causes of this issue:
1. The computer's PRAM no longer contains a valid startup disk setting when there aren't any problems with the disk itself. This can be checked for by pressing the Option key and seeing if the drive appears.
2. The internal drive's directory structure has become damaged. This requires usage of an alternate bootable system to perform the repair.
3. Critical system files have been deleted. This requires usage of an alternate bootable system to reinstall them.
4. The internal drive has died or become unplugged. This is the most likely case if the computer took a sharp impact or there are unusual sounds coming from the hard drive's location.

Need help.. displaying images with setText on a JEditorPane

Does anybody know how to embed an image into html text when using the JEditorPane.setText?
The images are stored in a jar file, and we know how to retrieve them and store them in an Image object from getDefaultToolkit().getImage()
Sample codes would be really nice, but any answers will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

The following is from some code I worked on a while ago, seemed to work fine however this was only a test tool so I didnt test it fully!

well my ipod displays a folder with an exclamation point and it says "go to apple.com/support/ipod" and i went there and nothing it said helped me out....and to top all that off my ipod is making a wierd noise....does anyone know anyhting i can do?

If they don't work and it continues to make strange noises then return it as it is probably a more serious fault than you can fix youirself
