Help - iPod is Dead?

Hi, I've had a 60gb colour iPod for about 5 months. 9,700 songs and 1500 photos on it - 15Gb approx free and never had a problem. I was just showing a slideshow via the dock on the TV (it wasn't connected to the computer), took it out of the dock and it's dead. I've got a blank screen, can't power it up, NOTHING. I've plugged it into the PC and it doesn't even recongnize it as an iPod - any clues. I'm bricking it, any help real quick would be really appreciated.

First step is to try a Reset:

  • Help ipod almost dead

my ipod vidoe was splashed with tea two weeks ago. we let it dry and proceeded to try and turn it on....nothing, until we plugged it directly into the wall. it does not work when plugged into the computer or when it's portable. we have let it charge overnight. when it is plugged into the wall it plays fine all songs are there as soon as you unplug it it goes dead also clock resets please help me figure out what the problem is. do i need a new battery?

The only reason that makes sense is that the battery is damaged. Liquids are very harmful for you iPod and Apple recommends to keep the iPods away of them since even rain can hurt it. If you tried drying it and then turning it on after few hours I doubt there is anything else you can do. Did your warranty expire yet? If not, I suggest you contact Apple right away.

    - Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.

  • Ipod plays dead

hello all, first of all my ipod is over one year old, i was recharging the battery and wanted to turn the ipod on. When i discharged it from its dock the ipod went dead.
i mean, the display isnt working and there is a humming noise coming out of it.
I tryed the 5R's, get an update but even my computer wont recognise the hardware (also I-tunes won't recongnise it)
I have no idea what to do about it and never heard about this before, so I hope someone can help me with it...

here is my answer to my own problem with the ipod:
leave the ipod humming in your livingroom overnight, in the morning there's no sound of humming. Then try to get into the ipod's menu, after that the screen says that the battery needs to be charged.
Connect it to the USB port of your PC, get an update from apple and disconnect it through "my computer",click on the sign IPOD, right mouse click and disconnect. Then conncet the ipod to the main charger and charge the battery...all music is still on the ipod!!
Hopefully it works for everyone here

  • How can my iPod be dead?

    Hi!
I just bought a 60g Black iPod video, I took it out of the box, used it for about 3 hours then battery needed to be charged, so I plugged it up in my computer before going to sleep. Three hours after I plugged it, I checked on the screen and the battery was still charging (nothing abnormal at this point). I then decided to go to bed and leave the thing charging.
When I woke up, I checked my iPod and realised the screen was black. So I thought: Okay, it must be recharged.
I then wanted to load new songs in the computer and was surprised to see that the thing refused to turn on.
I check the "Hold" button, but everything was correct.
I read this site's FAQ, when it says that you must leave it layed down on a flat surface for about 24 hours. That' what I did, but nothing happened.
    Anyone experienced the same problem?
Could this be because I don't have a USB2 port?
I'm now thinking of buying a Power adapter, but I dont want to pay $35 without being sure that this could fix my problem.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you for your reply,
But I already did read the whole thing before posting in here (didn't want to waste everyone's time with a question that could be answered by reading the FAQ)
My concern is, How can my iPod be dead after being charged for several hours? Nothing appears on the screen, that thing is totally dead. Oh, and did I mention that It is BRAND NEW??
This is the first time that I'm buying an Apple product and this may also be the last time.
    Anyone experienced that problem before?
    Thank you for your time,
    Andre

  • 2nd Generation iPod Nano Dead?

My 2nd generation iPod Nano was working fine this morning. Played music as it did for all these years. Later this afternoon I turned it on and the display would not light up. No music played. Seems like the battery is totally drained. Plugged into USB wall charger (from Apple) and get no indication whethr or not this thing is charging. Same when I plugged into my Mac. Does not show up in iTunes or on the desktop.
Is my iPod Nano Dead? Has the battery bitten the dust and cannot be recharged again? It's a shame that none of these iPods have user replaceable batteries... Other than being dead I am quite sure that if I could put in a new battery it would work again. I don't like spending a lot of money for something that does not last me at least 10 years.

If the iPod's battery has been fully drained it can at least 30 minutes or more of charging for the iPod to show any signs of life and even after that a hard reset might be required. To reset the Nano, press and hold both the Select?Center and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.

You can try putting it into Disk Mode
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1363
If that works, you can see if the computer will recognize it when connected, either in iTunes or by the system.
NOTE:  You can also try putting it into Disk Mode WHILE it is already connected to the computer.
If the iPod is recognized, you may be able to use one of the third-party methods or utilities to transfer song files from iPod to computer.  You can do a Google search on something like "ipod transfer" to get some links (add "mac" to the search if your computer is a Mac).
Once the song files are on your computer, add them to that computer's iTunes library, then sync it to the new iPod.

  • My ipod is dead.  I have tried resetting but to no avail.  I have attached to itunes and it sees that the ipod is bad, but it still can't seem to work.  How do I get it fixed?

My ipod is dead.  I have tried resetting but to no avail. I have attached it to itunes and it sees the ipod is bad, but it still can't seem to work. How do I get it fixed?

Its probably just as you said, it's dead. I mean the battery.
I have a second generation iPod and the battery doesn't hold a charge long. So yours must be really struggling with the battery.
You can send it off for a battery replacement, or as is expected due to the cost of doing that and with standard manipulative business thinking, you could just get a new iPod like a good little customer.

  • TS1382 When is your iPOD officially dead?

When do you know if your iPOD is dead?  Mine is blinking a blank screen ... and will not respond to the rest actions.

    Hello
I have a PowerMac Dual 2 GHz G5, I am looking for a Dual Layer Superdrive to replace the PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-117D that came with it. I noticed you have a Samsung SH-182M w/LightScribe. I am trying to replace my SD so I can create images of movies that are over 2 hours long with iDVD '08 and burn them with Toast 7 onto a single DVD-R.
I was wondering if you have had any issues with your Superdrive and if it works seamlessly with OS X and all the iApps. It is important to me becouse I have found no SD replacement that will "officially" do so.
    Thank you,
    PF
