Help! iPod is stuck "On" with Do Not Disconnect

This is my first time to join in the forum. I connected my iPod vedeo to my Dell computer to update it. I forgot that I had the iPod locked (pushed to Hold). The Do NOt Disconnect appeared as always. I came back in the room 10 minutes later and the DND message was still on and it had not updated. It apparently did not recognize my iPod. After trying to get it turned off (the DND message is still there and the buttons are not responding) I finally disconnected it anyway. There was no other choice. It is still "On" with Do Not Disconnect. I can't get it to turn off.

welcome
do a reset.. push and hold the middle button and the menu button at the same time for 10 seconds..this may take a few trys and it works best if hooked to power..
good luck

    - Try another cable.
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Try on another computer to determine if computer or iPod problem
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • My ipod is stuck on the do not disconnect screen

I recently found an ipod and i plugged it in to my computer because my mom has an ipod already. After plugging it in it went to the do not disconnect screen. its been stuck this way for 2 days. Is this because my computer does not recognize this new ipod or what any advice..........

Try holding down menu and the center button for a few seconds, until the apple symbol appears. This has always worked for me

  • Ipod 5G missing from itunes, freezes with 'do not disconnect'

my ipod simply cant be seen on itunes and whenever i plug it in, it will freeze with 'do not disconnect' and not able to do a legal, safe removel.
hav to remove it illegally and do the 'reset' to clear the 'do not disconnect' message.
ipod is still functioning and can only be charged using direct power, but will freeze when its plug into usb port.
    any help on this?
    Thanks

this may seem crazy but.........i had a similar problem for quite a while. my ipod worked perfectly and then all of a sudden for no reason (i thought) my ipod would stall out. the do not disconnect would flash and i couldn't do anything. this happened to me regularly. i did the restore and all that jazz.
one day i was seriously in tears about it. my husband said he would mess with it and voila! it worked perfectly. was he magic? hardly but he took the case off of it. i didn't have a big hulking case but a rubberized one and i guess the bottom piece was just a bit off. it seemed to connect but in reality it wasn't making a good connection.
i took the case off and haven't used it since and have not had a similar problem. its a thought.........if you have a case or something that might be keeping it from making a good connection.

  • My Ipod 30gig is stuck in the "Do Not Disconnect" mode

i plugged it into my macbook pro, and noticed after a while that my ipod never mounted. i looked at the ipod screen and it was in the "do not disconnect" stage. so i waited. then i went to "file" then "sync to my ipod" but the option was grey'ed out. so i restarted my computer. the ipod just stayed in the "do not disconnect" mode as the computer rebooted, and did not mount. none of the ipods buttons do anything. it does not go to sleep.

Argh, mine does that too. I would also really love a solution on this one, so therefor i'm bumping this thread

Reset the iPod. (hold down the menu and center button). If that doesn't work, try a restore with the iPod updater.

  • My ipod won't stop saying "do not disconnect"

When I try to sync my iPod with my new computer, the computer acts like it is done sync-ing (I think), but the iPod itself never stops displaying "Do not disconnect"

If apart from the "Do Not Disconnect" your iPod is working normally and updating then you probably have it enabled for disk use. If this option is switched on then the Do Not Disconnect will stay there until you manually eject your iPod.
Connect your iPod and in iTunes 6.x go to Preferences>iPod. Under the Music tab see if your iPod set to automatically sync (automatically update songs and playlists) with iTunes and also has a tick in the box marked “enable disk use". Remove this tick and your iPod should automatically disconnect after it’s finished updating.
If you are using iTunes 7, connect your iPod and in when it appears in the source list click on it to see the preferences pane. In the "Summary" tab see if there is a tick in the box “enable disk use". Then under the Music tab see if your iPod set to automatically sync all songs and playlists. In Summary remove the tick from "enable disk use" and your iPod should automatically disconnect after it’s finished updating.
If you have your iPod set to manual update, the box will be greyed out and ticked by default, in that case check this link: Safely Disconnect iPod

  • How do you disconnect an iPod if it is stuck with "Do not Disconnect"

I connected an iPod. It says "do not disconnect". But, it appears to be dead. iTunes does not say it is connected to the iPod. It does not show up in iTunes, so i cannot "eject". Nothing is happening. So, not knowing what to do, after about 10 minutes of waiting, i did disconnect. Now, the iPod is disconnected from the PC, but it still says "do not disconnect". The iPod does not respond to any button, such as "menu" or holding the Play button which would normally shut it off. I guess i can wait until the battery dies.
    Any better suggestion?
    Thanks, tom.
    Windows XP

    Hey tomcon!
Happens to me lots... all you've gotta do is toggle your iPod's "HOLD" button on then off again, and then hold both the "SELECT" (Centre of Click Wheel) and "MENU" buttons for about 7-10 seconds.
This will perform a soft reset of your iPod and all in the world will be good again!
    Hope this helps!

  • Please Please Help: Ipod Nano stuck n hold!!

I dont know what 2 do and i feel like crying becaz i have been searching on here 4 hours an im geting tired. Ok: My ipod iz stuck on hold, ive tried everything from switvhing the button back an forth 2 holdign the center button and menu. and i dont know how 2 do that restore factory setting thing, I read that i can let the battery run out but how can i if it goes 2 sleep? ANY HELP EXTREMLEY APPRECIATED

Plug your ipod into your computer. When it shows in iTunes it should show your ipod in the top. In the Versions section below there should be two things: "Your ipod is up to date" with an update button greyed out after it and "If you are experiencing problems...." right below that. At the end of that statement you should see a "restore" button. Click on that and it will as you if you are sure you want to restore as it will remove everything you put on your ipod from it. Click yes. It will then begin to reset it to factory settings. Finally, you will get a prompt telling you not to unplug your ipod as the process is completing and your ipod will show in itunes again when finished. Click "ok". When it is done it will show up as it did when you first purchased the ipod asking you to name it, etc.

  • PLEASE HELP - Ipod Showing In My Comp But Not Itunes Etc

    Hi there
Can someone PLEASE help me! I am at my wits end with my Ipod.
A few weeks ago I was in the middle of listening to a song and my ipod crashed then switched itself off. Ever since then I haven't been able to get it to connect to Itunes or the Updater and it won't play anything.
When I switch the ipod on I get various errors ranging from the unhappy ipod to the folder with the exclamation mark.
When I connect my ipod to my pc an autoplay window appears and sometimes I get an error saying the drive my ipod is connected to isn't formatted.
So far I have tried the following
    Reinstalled Itunes
Going into Disk Management and changing the Drive the ipod uses
    Reset The Ipod
    Tried Using Another USB Port
Put the Ipod Into Disk Mode
Nothing Works! After I changed the drive the ipod uses things looked promising. The Ipod was detected by the updater and it was started to restore the ipod however after a few minutes the ipod seemed to lose the connection and I got the error with the Battery icon.
    Can someone please help me!

"my dad pressed view and then he chose the 3rd picture thing and songs went into."
Sorry, I don't know what that means.
Have you had a chance to look through these?
USB drivers are not installed properly or are out of date.
iTunes 7 doesn't recognize the iPod.

  • Help please :) with do not disconnect.

Can somone please help me with this

Try Resetting your iPod. Hold down the MENU and SELECT (centre) buttons for five or ten seconds until you see the Apple logo appear then the menu button to go to the normal display. Have a look at this link as well:
    iPod won't turn on
iPod stops responding or will not waken from sleep

  • Can I download iTunes to a gateway laptop and pull up my library from it a as well? My ipod nano 7thgeneration is staying "do not disconnect" when I plug it into the USB in my truck. I am using the USB cord that it came with.

i had my iPod nano plugged into the USB in my truck about a week ago and it worked. All I had to do was press the AUX button. I went to use it yesterday in my truck and the iPod says do not disconnect while my truck says audio player not found. I called apple support and he said my iPod needs to be restored, so I need to retransfer the music from my library onto my iPod again. Downfall, I no longer have access to an apple laptop because my brother lost the cord to his. Please help.

" When I did this, my library showed all the music I have "purchased" from itunes but did not have the music that I downloaded a long time ago through itunes from my old CDs."
    Correct.
" How can I get that music to show up in my library now on my new computer?  "
Copy it from your old computer or your backup copy of your old computer.
The sync is one way - computer to ipod.

  • New ipod classic. the usb cable will not disconnect. totally stuck

We have done everything we were supposed to do. as far as pressing eject and then squeezing the sides. The cable is totally stuck in the ipod. I don't want to use more force than we are using. This is our third ipod. We know how these should disconnect.

That font color is almost unreadable, please use another.
Your iPod Classic almost certainly is not USB, but FireWire
    USB
    FireWire
I know this because the USB (type A) socket has not changed since it came out and early iPods were FireWire, not USB>
