Help! iPOD Nano stuck in recovery mode.

My 2G nano is stuck in recovery mode. iTunes always says to restore the ipod, but after the restore is done, the message "iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode. You must restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes." This hapeens over and over.

Have you tried fully reinstalling iTunes?
First, disconnect your iPod from your computer.
Start out by going to "Add or Remove programs" in Control Panel.
Find "iTunes" on this list, and remove it.
Then, go to the iTunes download page to install the latest version of iTunes (7.1.1.5).
After that has fully installed, restart your computer.
After the computer has loaded, reconnect your iPod to your computer, and see if you still get the "recovery mode loop" happening.
Not sure if it would work, but I guess it's worth a try.

  • IPod Nano stuck in recovery mode

    Hi,
I recently installed iTunes 7 on my new work PC and connected my iPod Nano (1st gen) to it for the first time. I was told that iTunes had detected an iPod in recovery mode and it needed to restore factory settings. I proceeded with this, and after this completed iTunes suggested I needed to update the software on my iPod, which I also completed (from 1.1 to 1.3)
My problem is that every time I plug my iPod in, iTunes tells me that it has detected an iPod in recovery mode, and needs to restore factory settings. When I do this, factory settings are restored, iTunes redects the iPod, and the same message comes up again, about iTunes detecting an iPod in recovery mode.
I seem to be stuck in this loop, and don't know what to do to fix it. I have tried all the obvious things (PC restart, different USB port, lastest iTunes software) but none of these seem to fix the problem. I cannot copy any music to my iPod.
I am very grateful for any help you can provide.
    Thanx

okay, that relentless "recovery mode" message can sometimes be produced by a Windows drive letter confusion. for troubleshooting advice on that, see the following document:

  • MY IPOD IS STUCK IN RECOVERY MODE. CAN SOMEONE HELP ME FIX THIS

MY IPOD IS STUCK IN RECOVERY MODE. CAN SOMEONE HELP ME FIX THIS

Withour knowing whar happens when you try to restore the iPod all I can suggest is:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Ipod touch stuck in recovery mode and will not restore. error code 3194

ipod touch stuck in recovery mode, will not restore and comes up with error code 3194, itunes is up to date, please help

Hi @rchangel - Thanks for the ideas...
Yes - it won't let you install the 32 bit version on a 64 bit machine.
I've had a cursory look at the SP1 release notes, and couldn't spot anything vital - what critical stuff do you know of in SP1?
I don't want to have to go through all the pain of setting up VM's, reinstalling iTunes, getting all my album art back in etc. (though I could, as I do have Win7 pro). I've also heard that running iTunes in Windows 7 compatibility mode might help. Can anyone confirm whether that actually works?
I think it's in Apple's gift to fix this issue, given that they say that they support Windows 7. So far I've had no feedback from a mail I sent to Apple, and the number of users reporting this problem keeps going up and up.
I want Apple to recognise that there is a problem, and then I want them to fix it.

I was trying to update my iPod Touch (currently 3.1.3), so I downloaded the 4.3.3 firmware (I didn't want to download the 4.3.5) and connected my iPod to my computer, opened iTunes and hit Shift+Restore. Then, I chose the 4.3.3 firmware and proceeded with the restore.
    However, the following appears:
    Error 1602
I pressed OK and the restore process stopped. But, my iPod is stuck in recovery mode. Every time I reboot it, the recovery mode shows up. It's also not detected in iTunes although my computer recognize it as iPod Touch Recovery Mode.
Please help me solve this. I can't use my iPod.

Error 1602: Try the following steps to resolve this error:
Ensure proper USB isolation troubleshooting has been performed, and test with a known-good cable.
Follow the steps listed for Error 1604.

    For how to restore:
    iTunes: Restoring iOS software
    To restore from backup see:
    iOS: How to back up
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:

  • HT4623 my ipod is stuck in recovery mode? How do I repair

M ipod is stuck in recovery mode after update, how can i repair without losing my info

Placing your device into recovery (DFU-Device Firmware Upgrade) mode:
Follow these steps to place your iOS device into recovery mode. If your iOS device is already in recovery mode, you can proceed immediately to step 6.
       1. Disconnect the USB cable from the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, but leave the
other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
       2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds
until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
                  * If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the
Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off,
release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
      3. While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the
device. The device should turn on. Note: If you see the battery charge warning,
let the device charge for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has some
charge, and then start with step 2 again.
      4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen.
When this screen appears you can release the Home button:
      5. If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the following "recovery mode" alert:
      6. Use iTunes to restore the device.
If you don't see the "Connect to iTunes" screen, try these steps again. If you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen but the device does not appear in iTunes, see this article and its related links.
    Additional Information:
If you have a problem getting into recovery mode then try: RecBoot: Easy Way to Put iPhone into Recovery Mode.
Note: When using recovery mode, you can only restore the device. All user content on the device will be erased, but if you had previously synced with iTunes on this computer, you can restore from a previous backup. See this article for more information.
