Help!? "Ipod service module has encountered a problem and needs to close"

Please help me if you can! I get this message every time I start Itunes. I have deleted and re-installed several times. When I attempt to start Ipod service from the services window I immediately get the same error message. The computer is new. Any suggestions?

  • Ipod service module has encountered a problem and needs to close

I have recently got a 80gb ipod video, but have been unable to use it, because no matter what I do I can't get it to appear in the source pane on itunes. Everytime I connect it to my PC I get a window up which says the "Ipod service module has encountered a problem and needs to close, sorry for the inconvenience etc"
I have followed ALL the instructions, including uninstalling itunes and quicktime (which I have done at least 7 times), reinstalling them with different settings on my computer. I have reinstalled a stand alone version of quicktime. I have tried restarting the ipod service, I have deleted all files from recycle bin and from Temp files. I have spoken to ipod at great length (3 different people, totalling approx 2hrs 30mins on the phone) and to a guy at Comet where I bought it from (20 mins on phone). Basically I have done everything I and anyone else can think of, but I still get the same message.
DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY OTHER SUGGESTIONS....PLEASE HELP I AM AT MY WITS END !!!

hmmmm. i don't have a solution to offer you at this stage. by we can try some general troubleshooting strategies to see if that can isolate the cause of the problem.
if you're game, we could start proceedings by trying a connection after a selective startup with just the itunes and quicktime background processes enabled. see:
Using MSCONFIG to troubleshoot conflicts in Windows
do you still get the crash after the selective startup?

  • IPodService Module has encountered a problem and needs to close

After allowing Windows XP to install Service Pack 3, I started getting the error message "iPodService Module has encountered a problem and needs to close" whenever I plugged my iPod 60 Gb into my PC. I spent months, literally, reading and asking and trying things before stumbling onto a fix that worked. I got the hint from a thread in some forum, then verified it with the software manufacturers. Apparently, Windows XP SP3 writes a bunch of garbage entries into your registry, and in the process corrupts some of the existing entries (thanks a lot, Microsoft, I mean really, thanks just too much. That service pack was soooo helpful). Included in the corrupted entries are a LOT of the ones used by Norton Antivirus 2008. This causes Norton to somehow prevent the device manager from recognizing anything (device manager window comes up blank) and apparently also causes iTunes to be unable to recognize the iPod. Here is the fix I used (a hybrid of several sets of instructions from various sources, including Symantec). I don't know if every step is crucial, I just know it worked.
    1) Uninstall Norton Antivirus 2008
    2) Use the registry editor (Run: regedit) to locate and delete every line beginning with the string $%&'( BE CAREFUL-don't delete or change anything else !
    3) Reinstall Norton Antivirus 2008 and update it using Live Update
    4) Uninstall iTunes
    5) Download and install latest version of iTunes from Apple
    6) Connect iPod (iTunes recognized it at this point)
    7) Use iTunes to update iPod software
I read a lot of posts from a lot of frustrated people experiencing this or similar problems. I hope this helps at least some of them.

Hey everyone... been watching these threads closely because, I too have this issue.
One question though... what if you don't use Norton??? I can't possibly believe that everyone with this issue uses Norton... I use AVG. When I search my registry, I get no results.
Does anyone have any input? Everything I read mentions Norton. This problem seems to have gone on forever, I can't believe it hasn't been solved eith by Apple, Microsoft or both.

    Hello,
Any idea how to fix this problem that casuses this error?
'NI-PAL Service Manager has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.'
I have been re-loading LabVIEW 8.0.1 Pro Dev Sytem, NI-DAQ (Traditional) and NI-DAQmx, all day.  This probelm seems to be related to the fact that I can, no longer, create executables or open my .lvproj files, yielding the other error:

Yesterday I started having this error message pop up when I first boot up my computer.  I haven’t even started LabVIEW.
    Recent changes:
    6Jan08 Replaced motherboard and CPU.
6Jan08 Formatted hard drive and reinstalled software(Windows XP Home Edition).  Computer working fine.
8Jan08 Installed LabVIEW 8.0 Student Edition.  LV is working fine and the message does not appear.

Anybody have any ideas on what the problem is?  I have a screen shot of the actual message, but I can't load it on this page.

  • IPod Universal Updater has encountered a problem and needs to close.

My daughter dropped her mini yesterday. After resetting I get the file folder with exclamation. So I was going to the next step to try to restore. When I start the updater, I get the message "iPod Universal Updater has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." I even tried installing an older version of the updater and get the same message. iTunes and Windows do not recognize the ipod. Ideas?

The iPod updater is now contained in iTunes version 7 or later. Why not use that?
Maybe Apple are not hosting the older standalone updaters any longer.

  • NI-PAL Service Manager has encountered a problem and needs to close

    Hello,
I am getting this error after a few hours of running a Labview 7.1 program installed on an XP machine. A reboot and start up of the program seems to go as expected but after the error will pop up again after a few hours. The program appears to still run normally and you can interact with the interface.
    The following information was listed:
    szAppName:nimxs.exe szAppVersion: 2.1.1.49152 szModName: nismslu.dll
    szModVer: 1.4.0.49152 offset: 00003eb7
What does this mean and will I have to reinstall Labview or could it be a WinXP problem?
    Thanks,

  • Error Message ipod Service Module has encountered a problem

I have just upgraded to iTunes 10, for some reason I receive two error messages, see below:
'*ipodServiceModule (32-Bit)has encountered a problem and needs to close, we are sorry for the inconvenience.*
If I then plug my iPod in iTunes firstly it doesn't open up like it used to, therefore I manually open to sync my ipod, but it doesn't recognise it and I get another error message
*'The software for communicating with the iPod is not installed correctly, please reinstall the iPods software.*
I have uninstalled and reinstalled 5 times and rebooted each time, yet I still get this message, it was working fine with the earlier versions, can anyone advise what is wrong?
    Many thanks
    Lisa

found this buried deep, deep in another thread courtesy of mooncow. i'm in no hurry to try to reinstall v10 anytime soon, but a few people in the thread tried this and said it works....
OK, a colleague of mine and I have been looking at this to try and find a common factor, and I think we may have found one. This may sound like the latest from Department of the Weird but bear with me. It would explain why quite a lot, but not anything like all, XP SP3 users have hit this problem. It would explain why Apple may have missed it even though they may have done thorough testing.
We discovered that a machine on which IPodService was failing to start with the subject error message had Data Execution Protection turned OFF in boot.ini. Data Execution Prevention (DEP) is a security feature intended to prevent an application or service from executing code from a non-executable memory region. See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/875352. The machine that was experiencing the failure had "/noexecute=alwaysoff" in boot.ini.
We changed "/noexecute=alwaysoff" to "/noexecute=optin" in boot.ini, restarted Windows, and the IPodService started without error and has worked OK since.
"/noexecute=optin" is the default setting. I don't know why our system had "/noexecute=alwaysoff", and I am not aware of any harm or problems that can be caused by changing it to "/noexecute=optin". NB, changing that setting to "/noexecute=optout" or "/noexecute=alwayson" CAN cause problems if you don't know what you're doing, so I don't recommend anything other than a change from "alwaysoff" to "optin".
Anyway -- there is an alternative fix that people can try: edit your boot.ini (found in c:\boot.ini, which is usually a hidden file but you can open it in Notepad just by Open->c:\boot.ini) and change "/noexecute=alwaysoff" to "/noexecute=optin" (be careful not to change anything else in this file), save it, then restart Windows. I hope this helps folks. And if this helps Apple understand the problem and produce a fix, all the better.

  • Help "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close..."

I have windows XP with service pack 2 installed and downloaded iTunes from the apple website, when i click on the iTunes icon on the desk top or from the itunes folder it will not open, I get the following error "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience" then gives you the option to send error report or don't send. I have already uninstalled and reinstalled it several times and it keeps doing the same thing. Anybody know what I need to do to get it to work???

    Hi -
I apologize for waiting a couple of days to post - I got sidetracked. Anyway, my "fix" involved a lot of trial and error and stumbling around in the dark, but it does seem to have worked so far. Hopefully I can put together a coherent enough sequence of events to help you out.
Preface: While you're doing these steps, disable your antiviral/spyware programs just to make sure that's eliminated as a source of problems.
    1) Using the Add/Remove Programs function, uninstall ITunes, Quicktime and any IPod software.
    2) Download the Windows Installer Cleaup utility from Microsoft:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301
Install this on your computer. As I understand it, this is basically a program that goes one level deeper to remove software from your computer. Once it's installed, open it and use it to remove anything involving ITunes, Quicktime and IPod.
    3) Unfortunately, you still probably haven't removed all the problem traces of Quicktime from your computer. To edit your registry, select "Run" from the Start menu and type "regedit" or "regedt32" in the box. A window should open with the registry editor. There will be a really long list of files on the left side. Scroll down about 2/3 of the way and you'll see a series of folders with "Quicktime" in the name. Right-click on each of these and select "delete." Do the same for "ITunes" and "IPod" folders in this alphabetical list.
    Not done yet.
Under the "Edit" menu, select "Find." Do a search on "Quicktime" - unfortunately there is no "find all" function. So the first file with "Quicktime" will come up; right-click and delete it. Press F3 to find another file and delete - repeat until you've gotten rid of all the Quicktime files. Then search on "ITunes" and do the same process; finally do the same for "IPod." This will take some time.
**Warning: Be very careful not to accidentally delete files not marked with Quicktime, IPod or ITunes. Messing around with the registry is serious stuff that a non-computer expert such as myself should probably not be doing .
    4) Finally, once you've gotten rid of everything Quicktime, ITunes or IPod-related, download the latest versions of Quicktime and ITunes (separately). Install Quicktime first, then install ITunes.
Note: You have to have adminstrator access on your computer to edit the registry.
    Hope this helps...

  • Help Needed-iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close.

    Hey guys,
I have had this extremely frustrating problem that just recently started occurring with iTunes. I have read many discussion forums but can’t seem to find a working solution. The problem is every time I try to open iTunes I get an error message that says “iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close.” The same thing happens when I try to open Quicktime as well.
I have tried every solution suggested in these forums. I have completely uninstalled Quicktime and iTunes along with their components (Bonjour, Apple Mobile Device Support, Apple Software Update, etc.) and then reinstalled each of them but the problem still remains. I do NOT use iTunes for my iPod (I do not own one) I simply use iTunes to listen to my music.
I have also tried the methods of installing Quicktime by itself and not with iTunes but the problem still remains. I have tried every solution I have seen. The only method I have not tried is completely removing all files and folders that have to do with iTunes because I am worried if I delete those files with all the music I have bought it will have to be downloaded again or lost.
This is the “Error Signature” that is on the error report when I try to open iTunes.
AppName: itunes.exe AppVer: 9.0.2.25 ModName: ntdll. dll
    ModVer: 5.1.2600.5755 Offset: 0001b21a
There was A LOT more information in the “Error Report Contents” but it would have taken me all night to type it all accurately. If that is what is needed then I am willing to provide any other information about this problem in hope of getting some useful suggestions or solutions. Any help would be deeply appreciated. Thanks!

that's been happening to me all day! i hope someone answers soon. bought my daughter an itunes card for christmas and now can't use it

  • Adobe Flash Player Update Service 11.3 r300 has encountered a problem and needs to close.  We are

    I get following message:
Adobe® Flash® Player Update Service 11.3 r300 has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
    How can I solve this?

    People,
Listen. This service is, has been and seemingly will be: FREE. So while emotions are running on the hot side of the guage, let's remember; it is FREE. Adobe owes no one anything. Now who's to blame, really? We, the people are to blame. Why? Because everyone has been ok with the fact that one company essentially designed and released a technology for streaming from the net. One company. And almost all of us are using this one company's technology to stream; for FREE.
But now we are not ok with it when, after we are prompted to update, we have the issue of it not working? We all never saw the ridiculously high potential for this one company to screw things up, intentionally or otherwise? What the ramifications, that we are now experiencing, might be? Nah, we just took it for granted that we would continue to be served. Well the serve came, everyone. Mistake or otherwise.
It's like this country [US], up until four-years ago. Everyone was either running around with snow shovels and hefty garbage bags to gather all the money they were making or sailing the seas of expectation and an, 'I am out there to get mine' attitude, and then the sh*t hits the fan and now people are complaining? About the very system until four years ago was spoon feeding them poolside with mai-tai's? While it was crushing everyone else in the known world?
No doubt it seems incredulous that a multi-billion dollar company has an IT department that would include in an update, for their own software, that would be inconducive to working. No doubt. But keep in mind: we are all either using browsers by Apple or MS. Anything happens to these browsers, including a virus or anything else that threatens our use of them and...?
So climb off the haughty, 'I deserve' crap and walk on the solid ground of trying to resolve this issue here at Adobe and around the net. If we were to band together, as the 99%, we could solve this, no problem. But then that holds true with resolving this fictitious economic downturn nonsense, that we solidly take for truth at face value, because our mainstream media says so. But no other species on this rock flying through space would know what the f*ck we were talking about.

I already tried to do a system restore and I shut down my PC and start it back up without the router plugged in and still no luck. I also tried to repair iTunes and that didn’t work. I’m now playing my music through Windows Media Player. I’m in ****!!!! Can someone please help me!!!!! I also tried a few things on iTunes support and they didn’t work. Have you at any stage installed an ACE or K-Lite Mega Codec Pack, any copies of the programs QT Alternative, QT Lite or Storm Codec, or any media converter programs that can convert files into QuickTime readable formats?
(I'm checking on these things because depending on the versions of the programs/codec-packs, these can install earlier versions of QuickTime componentry on a PC, which can interfere with the running/installing of a higher version of QuickTime.)
