Help ipod stuck on do not disconect!!!!

once i manually disconnect my ipod it plays music fine but if i plug it in to the pc it only says do not discconect whatis the problem?

I wouldn't worry about it too much.
What you need to do is simple. You have your ipod set on disk mode (as most windows formatted iPods are for some reason) You need to eject it through the icon to it's right in iTunes, or by going to My Computer, right clicking on your iPod, and then clicking eject.
to prevent this in the future, click on your iPod's icon in iTunes, then look at the checkboxes down at the bottom of the page. there should be one that says "enable disk use". Uncheck it.
If this problem recurs, or you need more help with your ipod, feel free to post back, or email me.

  • Help: iPod nano 7th gen not syncing with iTunes or Windows XP.

    Please help !
When we connected and followed the steps the first time, it worked perfect. But after we uploaded some CDs and tried to reconnect the PC does not see the iPod nano at all. not even on Device manager.

    Hey VandanaR,
Thanks for the question. Based on the information you have provided, it sounds like you are unable to sync your iPod because it is not connecting to iTunes. If you are experiencing this issue on a Windows computer, you can follow the applicable article from this resource:

  • IPod stuck on "Do Not Disconnect."

whenever i plug in my ipod to my computer so it will recharge battery, it stays stuck on do not disconnect. it charges fine and all but i have to disconnect it with that "do not disconnect." sign up all the time, because it will simply not go away, even after itunes says "ipod update is complete."
could anyone give me some advise as to what i should do?
also one more thing while im posting a topic, when i play music or videos, my battery goes down, say if it was at middle green then i would play music for a while it would go down to red, then when i leave it alone, i pick it back up and the battery power went up a little bit. Is that normal? Also my battery life while playing a video is very surprisingly short, with half battery i can watch a half hour of video at best. Do you think i have a defective battery?

"i have to disconnect it with that "do not disconnect." sign up all the time, because it will simply not go away, even after itunes says "ipod update is complete"
Your iPod is probably enabled for disk use. If this option is switched on then the Do Not Disconnect will stay there until you manually eject your iPod. If an iPod set to manual update, the box will be greyed out and ticked by default and you are always have to eject it manually
Check your preferences, connect your iPod and in iTunes go to Preferences>iPod. Under the Music tab see if your iPod set to automatically sync (automatically update songs and playlists) with iTunes and also has a tick in the box marked “enable disk use". Remove this tick and your iPod should automatically disconnect after it’s finished updating.
"my battery goes down,.....then when i leave it alone, i pick it back up and the battery power went up a little bit. Is that normal?"
    Yes it is
"Also my battery life while playing a video is very surprisingly short, with half battery i can watch a half hour of video at best"
Video drains the battery much quicker, for a start it requires more processing power and the backlight is constantly on so you can view the images. Check out these articles:

  • Help!  iPod stuck in do not disconnect

It isn't recognized in iTunes or on the computer. What should I do? It has never done this before.
    Thanks, Tyler

It's a bit late, but for anyone looking for the answer:
Here are several ways to manually eject your iPod
    And: How to Safely Disconnect
i Other ways in addition to the above links are
--- Eject the iPod using the System tray "Safely Remove Hardware" icon. This icon looks like a small gray rectangle with a green arrow floating above it. It is only there when a removable device (like the iPod in this case) is attached to the computer. Right-click & select 'Safely remove..', then click 'Stop' in the next window, OK in the next window, and then Close to complete the ejection.
--- If all of the above does not work, power down the PC and then remove the iPod.
(Adapt the above for Mac circumstances)

  • Help: Ipod Stuck  on Restoring iPod Firmware

I left my iPod touch (1G) on overnight to let it update, some error popped up and said I have to restore my iPod, so I did. I left it on to restore and has it is taken 2 hours so far and is stuck on the Restoring iPod Firmware. Is there a solution to this. Also my iPod is already in recovery mode.

Also it was not and never has been jailbroken if that helps.

  • IPod stuck on Do not disconnect screen.

My iPod is stuck on the Do not disconnect screen. It won't connect to the computer, shut off or reset. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

If you have your iPod set to transfer your music manually, then that “do not disconnect” message will continue to be displayed on your iPod until you manually eject it.
You can do this by clicking on the little eject icon next to the iPod listing in the source window of iTunes, or right click on it and select “eject”. There is also an iPod 'eject' icon in the lower right hand corner of iTunes. Another way would be to use the “safely remove hardware” icon in the system tray next to the clock (looks like a grey rectangle with a green arrow above it). Click on this then select your iPod. Or through Windows, select start/my computer, right click on the iPod, select eject. With a Mac, drag the iPod into the trash.
If you have your iPod set to automatically sync with iTunes version 7 or later, connect the iPod and when you see the summary screen, uncheck the box marked "enable disk use".
If you are using an earlier version of iTunes, right click on the iPod in the source list, select options and uncheck the same box.
In future your iPod should automatically disconnect after it’s finished transferring music.

  • IPod stuck in Do Not Disconnect mode

I plugged in iPod in this evening and after a few mintued iTunes did not start up. I restarted the machine and still nothing.
Shut the machine down and disconnected it from the computer and now the iPod only has the Do Not Disconnect displayed on the screen.
I've tried resetting it but it's also stuck in hold mode. I've toggled the hold switch and no change.
I've tried connecting to different USB ports, different computers, and different dock cable but no change.
    Any suggestions?

I have been having the same problem as the OP and would ususally just let the ipod run out its battery. Seeing as this means you have no ipod for about a day I came on these forums. I didn't know how to reset the ipod until reading this thread and it worked for me. I was just wondering if there is a way to aviod the ipod hardlocking in the first place, its only started happening after I reformatted it from pc to mac.
    thanks.

  • IPod stuck in "Do not disconnect" after Restore

My iPod was stuck and iTunes told me to restore it. I left it alone in restoration mode for 24 hours since it said "Do not disconnect." Now, I have tried disconnecting USB and reconnecting and restarting computer. When I disconnect it, the iPod says "Connect to your computer; use iTunes to restore." I can't believe it could take this long to restore. Is there anything else I can do?

Give this a shot and see what happens:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=32222
Be sure to click on any embedded links that could possibly pertain to your situation, or even to just get more info on your iPod. There is a link for tutorials in there that EVERYONE could probably benefit from. Another link you could probably benefit from is "disconnect screens" towards the bottom. Look that over carefully as well.

  • IPod stuck in "Do Not Disconnect"

My computer locked up during update, and I had to reboot. However, my iPod is now stuck for the past hour in "Do Not Disconnect".
Anyone got some suggestions to free the iPod from this lockup?

I've been having sorta the same problem. When I'm finished with an sync of the iPod, the Do Not Disconnect stays on and on and on, and finally, after several minutes, allows me to disconnect. (And yes, I have it set to Automatic. If you set the iPod to manual, you have to manually "eject" it to disconnect.)
Odd, I wonder if others are having this problem? Another issue might be the fact that it happens on USB 1.1.

  • Ipod stuck in DO NOT Disconnect mode, will not eject from itunes

I just got this thing replaced, my Ipod can't disconnect from my computer! It is in DO NOT disconnect mode, I try to eject it from itunes and it says that files are being used by another application, I log out of my computer and it still won't let it go

So the iPod remains in My Computer and in iTunes and won't disconnect? You should try shutting down or restarting your computer.
