Help!! iPod touch (3rd gen) stuck in recovery loop

Ok, so here is my problem: A couple days ago, something went wrong with my iPod touch because it wouldn't turn on unless it was plugged in and then all it would show is the screen showing that the iPod needs to be connected with iTunes. So I plugged my iPod into my computer and it said that iTunes had detected an iPod in recovery mode and that it would need to be restored. I hit restore and it restored and updated my software just fine. However, when it got to the end of the process and restarted the iPod, the same screen as before came up (iTunes detected a device in recovery mode, I would need to restore it, etc). So I restored it again and again and again, to no avail. I tried letting the battery deplete, them charging it then restoring the iPod and nothing. My iPod touch is 3rd generation and about 1 1/2 years old, if that helps. Please, please help me, I am desperate!!

I had the exact same problem. And im not joking the exact same!
To be honest, there is no straight forward answer. I just tampered with mine for about 6 days straight and somehow i fixed it.
This is just an idea but what you could do is that once you plug your ipod in and it says "detected an ipod in recovery mode", instead of clicking restore, first hold "alt" on your keyboard and then at the same time click restore. This should bring up a window asking which firmware to restore it on. You can download ipod firmwares from this link   http://www.felixbruns.de/iPod/firmware/
Once you have downloaded the firmware restore you ipod on the firmware you just downloaded. Mabey that will work. If not, your on your own mate. I just managed to sort mine out by luck but i tried looking every where on the net i couldnt come up with a solution.

i have an ipod touch 3rd generation with firmware 4.3.4. i was recently playing an app whe all of the sudden my ipod just shuts off. i held the power button but it would not turn on. then i tried just holding and pressing and holding the power and home button on my ipod touch trying to get it to turn back on. eventually the apple logo appeared and i felt relieved. however the usb and itunes screen popped up so i plugged my ipod touch into my computer and tried to restore it. when i plugge my ipod touch in a message popped up telling me that my ipod touch was in recovery mode and had to be restored. so i clicked on restore and waited for my ipod to restore. then another message popped up. it said that my ipod was not approved from apple to be restored. i had no idea what was going on so i did some research. i found that other people have seen an error pop up but with an error number. my error displayed no error number. i thought to myself that that was strange so i tried to restore my ipod agian. then i realized when i clicked on my ipod in itunes that my ipod summery was wierd. the name of my ipod was ipod and the capacity and serial number etc. said n/a. what is wrong with my ipod and how do i fix it? i miss my ipod.

  • IPod Touch 3rd gen stuck in the middle of 5.1.1 download?

I started a remote software (5.1.1 I believe) update on my iPod touch 3rd gen (through the settings), but I am on vacation and do not have access to my own iTunes account to plug in to for another two weeks. Now my iPod is stuck on the connect to iTunes screen and I've tried restarting it and everything and it just won't budge. How do I cancel the installation and get it off the screen?

    - Yes when you go home you can restore from backup.
    - You can also restore now. If you have no iCloud backup you can redownload iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
and at least have some use of the iPod now. When you get home you can restore from your backup

  • Tried to update ipod touch software now stuck in recovery loop any ideas?

tried to update software on brand new ipod touch but now stuck in recovery mode (displaying usb plug into itunes logo) any ideas?

    Maybe:
Restore loop (being prompted to restore again after a restore successfully completes)
Troubleshoot your USB connection. If the issue persists, out-of-date or incorrectly configured third-party security software may be causing this issue. Please follow Troubleshooting security software issues. .
Next try placing in DFU mode and then restoring.

  • IPod Touch 3rd Generation stuck in recovery mode

My daughter got an iPod Touch 3rd Generation for Christmas which was on version 3.1.1. iTunes told us an update to 3.1.2 was available and would we like to update it, we selected yes. The update downloaded and then the iPod wouldn't restore and is stuck in recovery mode with the iTunes symbol and the USB on the screen and giving us an error message 1604. We have tried different ways to get it to restore but it wants to update it to 3.1.2 which apparently has a problem with it. How can we get it to restore back to 3.1.1?

I had the same problem yesterday. I tried restoring countless times, reinstalling iTunes... teh whole nine yards. I eventually called Apple, they didn't know what was wrong with it either.
Unfortunately, its the Touch, not iTunes... you are going to have to return it to where you bought it, and exchange it for a new one. Call Apple, and they will give you a number to give to the store. Alternately, you can go to an Apple store, if you bought it at a retailer (Best Buy, Walmart, ect.) and see what they can do.
    Best of luck! ~*~

  • Ipod touch(1st gen) stuck in recovery mode and cannot restore??

I just bought a used ipod touch 1st gen.  It was fully functional before I wiped it.  I wanted to remove all of the other person's music and personal info before I started using it. I also wanted to update ios.  I wiped it and when it restarted it was in recovery mode. I have tried to restore it and I keep getting an error message that it could not restore unknown error has occurred  (1).  I have tried troubleshooting and going through all of the steps that Apple suggests and nothing has worked.  Any suggestions?  I just want it restored and updated to the latest ios that will work with it (3.1.1 I believe) I don't know what to do at this point.

    - Try on another computer
    - Try another cable
    - Also, confirm your security software and settings are allowing communication between your device and update servers.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • IPod Touch 4th gen stuck in reboot loop after attempting to update to iOS 6.1.5

    Hi.
I have my iPod Touch 4th Gen (iOS 6.1.3)....I plugged it into my computer, it said there was a software update available. I click ok, it goes through all of it's stuff, gets up to Verifying update with Apple, and then I get an error message.
"The iPod 'iPod Touch 4' could not be restored. It is not eligible for the requested build."
I know this has something to do with Apple not signing the package, but I got iOS 7.0.4 on my iPhone today and it worked fine.
Thanks for all of your guys' help,

Try what you have not yet tried:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.

  • IPod Touch 5th Gen stuck in recovery mode loop and unable to restore

    Hello,
I attempted to download and update my iPod to IOS 8 wirelessly on the release date Sept. 17.  After a few hours of downloading, I plugged my iPod into its charger to allow for the installation to complete.  I went out for a few hours that evening and returned to find my iPod touch with the recovery mode image (cord hooking up to iTunes).  At first i tried to kick it out of recovery mode by using some 3rd party applications.  Every time that happened, it would reset my iPod only to return to the previous image (cord hooking up to iTunes).  After this, I gave up trying to just kick it out of recovery mode and just restore it using iTunes.  For the last 3 days, I have continuously  attempted to restore my iPod but i am never able to successfully download the software.  I have received multiple errors regarding "failure to connect to update serves" or "session has timed out".  Most of the time,I ca't even get to the Terms and Agreements popup.  The window simply says "attempting to connect to update server."  In the extremely rare case that I get passed the terms and agreements pop up and begin the download,  the approximate wait time always exceeds 80 hours, and then an error is detected shortly after stating the  "failure to connect to update serves" and "session has timed out" errors.
I would simply like to be able to restore my device and make it usable so it is not a metal and glass "brick".  Any help in this matter is much appreciated. Thanks.

  • IPod Touch 4th Gen stuck in recovery mode, no error message!

I have an iPod Touch stuck in recovery mode. It has a picture of a usb cord pointing to the iTunes symbol. When I plug it into a computer it says "iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode. You must restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes." So i did. After it had finished it came up with that message again! Also I've tried using DFU mode and it didn't work. Suggestions?

  • IPod Touch 4th Gen stuck in "infinite loop"

I updated to iOS 5 and the update went smoothly but when it came to restoring the device from my last back up, the same message has popped up a dozen times.  It starts by saying that the restore was interrupted and asks if I wish to continue the restore.  When I click yes, it gives me the error message (-34).  I have no idea what this error is supposed to mean.  Anyone have any ideas?  I'd like to get my iPod back to what it was.  Majorly frustrating.

  • Please help me! iPod Touch 2 gen stuck in recovery mode!!

I need help please! Yesterday, I installed the newest version of iTunes on a new PC with Windows XP, and when I connected my 2nd Gen 8GB iPod it prompted me for the new OS4 update to the iPod. I went ahead and said "yes" and walked away. At some point there was some kind of error and my iPod went into recovery mode. iTunes prompted me to restore. I have tried restoring multiple times always with the process reaching the very end where it's "verifying restore" and I get error message: An unknown error has occured (9). Error 9 helps me in no way. I feel I've tried everything and I can't get this thing out of recovery mode! Please help, I'm just sick over this. I haven't even had my iPod a year and I have loved it. Until yesterday.

  • Ipod Touch 5th gen stuck in restore mode

My Ipod Touch 5th gen stuck in restore loop i keep clicking restore and i just keeps downloading the ipod software update, and i wont restore it just keeps saying that a ipod was found in restore mode..... Can someone please help

The same thing happened to me, while restoring my iPod Touch Generation 5.  I don't know if you are still caught in the same loop but this worked for me.  I am using a MacBook Air running Mountain Lion version 10.8.2.  iTunes is at version 11.0.
After running through the published Restore procedure without any success I found the Software Update file had downloaded as:
    "/Users/my_home_directory/Library/iTunes/iPod Software Updates/iPod5,1_6.0.1_10A523_Restore.ipsw"
The ~/Library directory is invisible on my machine, more than likely a design standard.  I used a terminal to first locate the file and then to copy the file to a readable location, my Desktop.
My iPod was still stuck in Recovery Mode so I plugged it in.  iTunes was already running and identified the Recovery Mode iPod, prompting me to Restore it.  I clicked OK.
I held the option key while clicking Restore.  This opened a navitation window that enabled me to select the Software Update .ipsw file I had copied to my Desktop.  The Restore process then ran without any failure and the iPod is now running again.
This is not a formal solution as far as I can tell, nor have I verified the procedure across multiple iPods, multiple scenarios, etc.  I just wanted to share it as an "at-your-own-risk" alternative you might want to try.
    Good luck, cupcakequeen83.
