Help! Ipod touch 5g stuck in recovery loop and cant restore

Hi. I have an ipod touch only a few weeks old. All was fine, but last week I started to experience dramatic reductions in battery life (flat in 12hrs, even if properly powered off).
I now have the "connect to itunes" logo on the screen and the ipod is not working.
Connecting to itunes, it requires a restore, but I am stuck in a loop of downloading, not recognising and then starting again.
I can see the file (all 900mb of it):
C:\Users\J\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPod Software Updates\iPod5,1_6.0.1_10A523_Restore.ipsw
But it just keeps re-downloading everytime I click restore - even though the file is already there. During the download, I think the ipod/itunes connection disconnects and then reconnects as you get a new "ipod in recovery mode warning".
Considering this file is nearly a gb I am reluctant to try any more. Is there a way I can force it? The ipod is otherwise not working at all now.
I have turned off my firewall per the advice elsewhere on here.
Cheers
James

Wow. I solved this.
To force the restore after downloading, but without the downloading again:
- Disconnect and then reconnect the ipod (important in my case)
- Hold the shift key and then click "Restore" SUPER SECRET or what!
  - Navigate to the file as per the above.
Hope the restore happens before the next disconnect (did in my case)!
Sorted.
Now I hope my battery lasts better than before - was going flat overnight, even if turned off properly.....

  • My iPod touch is stuck in recovery mode and won't restore?

Okay my Ipod Touch is stuck in recovery mode and will not restore because "the ipod software update server cannot be contacted". I have tried to restart my computer, restart my ipod, tried different computers, and re-intalled AND updated my itunes and it still will not restore. It is stuck on the picture of the usb cable pointing to itunes and won't do anything else. I'm trying to restore it because my memory was full and I wanted to clean it out and now the ipod is useless, please help me restore it!

  • My iPod Touch is stuck in Recovery mode and would not respond. Please Help!

Hi! I have an iPod Touch 2nd Generation 8GB. Yesterday, I tried to update to iOS 4.0 from 3.1.3 by way of shift-click restore because my iPod was jailbroken. When the restore process was about 95% done, I received a "Send Error Report" and in every time I do it whether if I am downgrading back to 3.1.2 or 3.1.3.
My iPod touch is still stuck in DFU/Recovery mode. I tried using another of my USB cable, USB port, and computers but to no avail. I even reinstalled iTunes and I still get the same result.
Please does anyone know how to fix this?

Restoring and updating normally also produces the same result.

  • Ipod touch 3g stuck between recovery mode and apple sign

    Hello everyone,
I was hoping someone could assist me... I have an iPod Touch 3g (32gb) that is stuck in recovery mode.  Once in a while, it'll go to the start up Apple Logo... but then it'll go back to the recovery mode/connect to iTunes screen.  To add to the fun, sometimes it would go into regular iPod mode and I can surf the net, and do regular things.  However, when it goes into that mode... the screen would flicker between the regular screen and a greyish screen.  At that point, I shut the iPod off... but when I do that the iPod will turn itself back on (yes, it's strange).
Anyone with any suggestions would be appreciated.
I have tried to recovery the iPod on iTunes... once it "succeeds", it goes back telling me to recover the iPod again so it's basically looping.  I've tried to recover this device with another computer with iTunes... same result.  I can't get this thing on DFU mode.. as it won't respond to it.  I've also tried various USB cables.
Is there any hope? (or any ideas in terms of what could be causing the issues)
    Thanks a bunch.

Thanks, I'll try it out, and update here.  It might take a little while for the battery to drain without being used.

  • I updated last night and now my ipod touch is stuck in recovery mode and I don't want to do a factory restore!

How do I get out of recovery mode, that my ipod touch suddenly went into, after updating last night? It does not recognize my ipod anymore and I don't want to restore it back to factory conditions. I have tons of things on the ipod and don't want to lose them! Is there any other way to get out of this 'recovery mode'??

No. You have to restore. To allow the restore try the following:
    - A reset.
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Manually placing the iPod in Recovery Mode
    - Placing the iPod in DFU mode.

    - If you can't turn the iPod off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for at least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • IPod Touch 4g stuck in recovery mode and lock button broken

A few days ago my lock button stopped functioning, and seeing as I'm not brave enough to try and fix it myself and I haven't been able to take it to get fixed anywhere yet, I just enabled the internal lock button feature and, frankly, hoped for the best. This afternoon I connected it to iTunes because after updating to iOS 6 too many things have been going wrong. There was an error message (I can't remember which one :S) but stupidly I decided to restore it (mainly in the hope that iOS 6 would sort itself out I guess). Once it had finished extracting files, there was another error message, which again I can't remember, but it was something along the lines of iPod cannot be restored basically. Then it went into recovery mode, and I've been unplugging, plugging in, shutting down my computer and all sorts of things all evening. As far as I can tell, the only way out of recovery mode is to hold the lock button and the home button down for thirty seconds ish until the apple logo comes up. Except my lock button doesn't work. I guess I'll just try and get it fixed this weekend but if there are any other solutions that would be awesome! Thanks!

    - Let the battery fully drain and try again to restore after charging for at least an hour.
    - Try on another computer

Got a brand new Ipod 4g, worked fine until ran out of battery first time, it is in recovery mode it says when I connect to itunes store, then says to restore it, I click ok and the ipod then turns on but just shows and apple and a bar but nothing happens, itunes says waiting for ipod.

    - Reboot the computer
    - Try another USB port and cable
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost

    - Try DFU mode and then restore

  • HELP! iPhone 3GS stuck in recovery loop and iTunes gives error message" iPod update server can not be contacted"

As I said, it's an iPhone 3GS (never jailbroken), iOS 4.1, PowerPC G4 OS X 10.4.11, iTunes 9.2. I have had the phone since new, never had any issues with it and am at my wits end trying to figure it out. I have seen many different solutions to this exact problem, but none have worked for me. Anyone have any ideas?

This is what I posted to someone else having an update issue... Just for your information:
I having the same issue about the and iTunes says "The iPhone cannot be  restored at this time because the iPhone software update server could  not be contacted or is temporarily unavailable.". I've had the  iPhone  3GS since it came out. It was working fine until I just tried to  update  it. It has NEVER been hacked or jailbroken. WE AND A FEW OTHERS are  having  the same issue then it is more than likely that this is an  update issue.  I took mine to the Apple store and the tech tried to  update it and he came to the same problem and told me he couldn't  update it. My assumption is that we are not the only one's with this  issue and that if  there was a way to update it to the update before  this last one it  might be a solution. I don't know how to get the  previous update. Apple  probably is aware of the problem, and hasn't  come up with a solution yet. Or, enough people haven't complained yet.  The tech suggested that  there might be something wrong with the phone  itself, but that couldn't  be since it was working perfectly before I  updated it and others are  having the same issue. It is highly unlikely  that a lot of people are having the same hardware issue all of a  sudden at the same time. Apple/iTunes needs to fix this... and hopefully soon
Also:  I can update or restore my iPhone 5 and other iPhones so it is not an  issue with my firewall or other software on my computer. No one touches  my iPhone or my computer they are secure, locked all the time, and I  have no jailbreak software on my computer (Apple tried it and they are  clueless at the moment from what I can tell).

  • Ipod touch is stuck in recovery mode with a error code 9

my ipod touch is stuck in recovery mode and when i try to restore it getting an error code 9

Error 9: This error occurs when the device unexpectedly drops off the USB bus and communication stops. This can occur if the device is manually disconnected during the restore process. This issue can be resolved by performing USB isolation troubleshooting, using a different USB dock-connector cable, trying another USB port, restoring on another computer, or by eliminating conflicts from third-party security software.

  • IPod Touch 4g stuck in a loop

Ipod Touch 4g stuck in infinite loop?
I accidentally left my iPod touch 4g on all night on an alarm clock app. When I woke up it was stuck on a loop where it goes to the lock screen for 2 seconds and then back to a black screen with an apple on it for 6 seconds. I can not get it out of this loop this sequence flashes back and forth continually until the ipod runs out of battery. I can still sync the iPod and it is still recognized by the computer. I have tried restarting it and turning it off doesn't work. I have even restored the iPod's software and it still doesn't get out of this loop. Please help me!!

Try the recovery mode as a last resort:

  • IPod touch 4G stuck in recovery mode- it won't even go into DFU

When I accidentally disconnected my iPod touch 4G during an update yesterday, it automatically went into recovery mode (the screen with the USB cable pointing up towards an iTunes logo). Now it won't turn off, it is recognised by neither my laptop nor by iTunes, it won't even go into DFU, so there's absolutely no way, as far as I can tell, to fix it. I've looked all over the internet, and the only other person I can find who has experienced a similar problem hasn't received an answer in about a year.
