Help ipod wastes battery while trying to charge

ok i have a regular ipod 20 gig and ive never had any problems with it until i plugged it into a windows millenium edition pc, and unplugged it without telling the computer i was going to well it did something to it, everyonce in a while i can put it in safe mode and try to restore it , but for some reason when it trys to charge it will start to and then it will turn on over to the battery and wear down everything that it wasted my time charging so it charges and wastes it charges and wastes it, so i dont know what to do

The problem you're experiencing here is probably because you have USB1.1 ports on your computer.
USB1.1 uses a much lower voltage than USB2.0. When you plug your iPod into your computer, it will show as charging, although it is only trickle-charging. When the iPod is plugged in to the computer, the hard disk is "active" and therefore using power, sometimes the power it's using is more than the power the USB1.1 connection can supply. Since USB2.0 provides a higher voltage, your iPod will charge successfully when connected.
When charging your iPod, you're best to use the wall socket supplied with your iPod, but if you do use a computer to recharge the battery, try to use a Firewire or USB2.0 connection wherever possible.
Hope this helps.

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) No data/files will be erased.

  • Fully charged ipod losing battery while off

I have a Nano. When I shut it off after fully charging, and put the hold button on, the next day when I turn it on the battery is low. What is going on?

Have you tried just not putting the hold button on when the iPod is off?

  • NEED HELP IPOD WONT TURN ON AND WONT CHARGE ETC TRIED EVERYTHING

    IVE TRIED EVERYTHING! PLEASE HELP!

Maybe you could actually describe what you have tried. "TRIED EVERYTHING" doesn't actually tell us what you've tried, so we have to start at the very begining.
    Have you seen this;
    iPod Won't Turn On

  • IPod resets itself while trying to play certain songs.

For no specific reason, this has only happened so far with audio from my "Comedy" playlist. Either this is coincidental or my iPod lacks a sense of humor. Please let it be the former.
Anyway, when this occurs it takes me to the silvery Apple logo screen and the iPod resets. However, it only happens when I start to play the file. If I go through the list hitting the next button while on pause, there's no problem.
    Two questions:
    1) Has anyone else encountered this?
    2) Can anyone tell me what's going on and how to correct it?
As a side note, this also happened with my old monochromatic 20GB 4G iPod, but that issue was more randomly initiated, and was probably due to its failing battery.
30GB 5G iPod Video, the newer model   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

This has been asked and answered a couple of times and I think that the same answer should help you out.
Seems like you're a victim of the 1.2 firmware bug. It's causing mp3 mono tracks (which I could very much believe some comedy routines would be encoded as) to reset your iPod. the only workaround at the moment seems to be to set your EQ to OFF (under Settings > EQ > OFF). That seems to work for some people.
Your other option is to try and reencode your tracks so they're not mono-mp3.
    I hope that helped. =)

  • Help for solar battery, solar panel, solar charger!

    Hi to all,
a solar battery = solar charger=solar panel ?? Today, my friend argue with me about the difference between *solar battery*, *solar panel* and *solar charger*... Is there anybody who can tell me the difference between them?? And does anyone have any experience with an easy to use solar charger than can be used to charge a laptop battery? I'm trying to help a friend out and i've got no experience with these.
    I really appreciate, thanks!

No experience here.....but I did a little Googling and came up with this...

  • Overheating While Trying to Charge.

My 30G 5 Gen iPod Video gets quite hot while it is plugged into my computer, but not where the battery is. It is hot on the bottom. It also will not charge in the Firewire charger or via USB. I have had the iPod for over 1 year. If i request support, can/ will it be repaired, or am i better off getting a new MP3 player?

    hi,
since its over 1 year the service of ipod is not covered...it will be serviced though but the service rates are very high...
i would suggest you to walk in to an apple store and investigate the exact problem or issue with the ipod.. and then you have to do what ever they suggest you to do...
its always better to purchase an apple care protection plan for ipod when you purchase the ipod...it covers the ipod for 2 complete years...but its too late for that because you can purchased APP only before the completion of 1 year...
    Regards,
    Sam

  • HELP! Error -19 while trying to update iPhone to 2.1

    Hi,
So I tried to update my iphone this afternoon to the 2.1 version. iTunes downloaded the program and when it went to update the phone it said an error (-19) had occured. Does anyone know what this means or how to fix it ?

Ok so I've been trying to get my iPhone updated to the 2.1 version for over an hour now. The first two times I tried to install 2.1 I received a message via iTunes that an error occurred (-19).
I decided to do a hard reboot & let the phone sync & backup again, which took forever btw. Finally the phone let me upgrade to 2.1 but it took at least 25 minutes for it to process. During that whole time I had the white Apple logo on my iphone screen. Than suddenly when it finished my iPhone vibrated twice switched back to the locked homescreen on my iPhone and displayed "iPhone is activated".

  • My ipod had a flat battery and turned off and i tried to charge it but it said to connect it to itunes, so i did that but it didnt work?

Help. My ipod wont work. When it got a flat battery i tried to charge it but it wouldnt work and it said i have to connect to itunes so i tried that but something went wrong. Help.

Hey Marlowejewel, you didn't state which iPod you have. Did you get anything be for your iPod quit working? Apple symbol with an arrow, error messages, or just the 20% low battery warning. If you try and turn it on now do you get anything? Have you tried a soft reset? Press and hold both the power and home buttons until the Apple logo appears, about 15 seconds+/-, then release both buttons. Anything?
Here's a couple of general fixes, going with the idea that the battery is run down, in need of a charge. Inspect your iPod's charging port you're looking for damage, cracks, missing or bent pieces / pins. Is there signs of corrosion or foreign debris, like lint or dirt, (anything preventing an electrical connection). If so attempt to carefully remove the debris by blowing it out or carefully use a wooden toothpick to remove the debris. If port is clear and still will not charge, try a different cable. The lighting cables (iPod 5) have a history of failure, shorting out, but it doesn't mean the 30 pin type cables (iPod 4 and earlier) are immune from shorting out. If cable is not the problem, try a different charger and/or different cable. Or try the charger with a different outlet. Allow your iPod to charge for at least 30 minutes, then see if your iPod will function, if your iPod charges with a different cable or charger, there's your problem, then charge you iPod for at least 4 hours, (a full charge). If your iPod will not turn on even when plugged in and you know the charger is good as is the cable, then you may have a hardware issue or battery issue contact Apple and have your iPod evaluated.  Good luck, Cheers.

  • Cant charge ipod mini battery

have a new ipod mini tried to charge it with the usb and there is a battery sign with an ! mark my USB is 2.0 can anyone help

    Here are all the tips:
Not all USB ports charge the iPod the same, or at all...
Especially if your PC USB port is lower powered. Some PC USB ports do not deliver enough power to adequately charge the iPod's battery. The AC charger delivers a full 1 amp charge. Rarely does a PC USB port (particularly in laptops) provide this much charging power. Expect faster charge-up times using an AC adapter. Even a DC car charger may help.
For any PC, but especially laptops, verify via the Windows Device Manager, that the unit DOES NOT cut power to the USB busses as a power saving measure.
Make sure that you actually have a USB port that works and is the
    i high-powered
USB2 variety. Unfortunately, some laptops do not have them at all, and some desktops have them only in the rear. First try connecting to one of the USB ports on the rear of your computer, if possible.
NOTE: Most, if not all, USB ports will not charge the iPod when the PC ‘hibernates’ or is off. In fact, it can further drain your battery.

See this link for a good bit of info: The iPod Battery Unplugged..
i A synopsis of it is as follows
"For best results, try not to use computer ports to charge your iPod. USB is especially sensitive to how many devices are on it and what the resulting bus voltage is. It may even display the charging icon but not be adding much to the battery. USB versions prior to 2.0 will not charge your iPod (and probably be too slow for its other functions). Even USB 2.0 is limited to 700 milliamps and an iPod "likes" to see one full amp for charging, plus some to spin the HD while mounted. Some (early) iPod models will not charge from USB, period. Some PCs use 4-pin Firewire cables (all Macs are 6-pin) which carry no charging voltage, so they won't work at all for recharging and can allow your iPod to run down and cause serious problems while updating firmware, restoring, or loading songs. Both USB and Firewire require the iPod to be mounted by your computer as an external drive, which means the iPod's HD is spinning, using some of the juice that the battery might like to have. And if the computer sleeps or is turned off, the battery won't charge and in some cases will actually drain through the port circuits. Bottom line: if your ports are not doing a good job of charging your battery, use the wall adapter to charge for several cycles before questioning the battery's credentials. If you have a new iPod which only comes with USB, don't panic; it can work fine. But if you do experience problems, either take everything else off the USB bus (except mouse & keyboard) and/or get an AC adapter."
b Here is another possible way to obtain a charge
I have not tested this myself, but some reports on these Discussions indicate that it does work:
With the iPod disconnected from the PC, open up "my computer". You will see all the available drives. Now, plug the iPod into the USB port on your computer. As soon as you plug it in, watch the "my computer" window for the external drive (your iPod) to open up. As soon as it does, double click on it. It should remain charging for you (and your iPod will say ‘Do Not Disconnect’). Don't close out of it until you think the charging is complete (about 4 hours). It appears as though, as long as the iPod is communicating with the computer, it is charging.

  • Is it too late to calibrate my iPod Video battery?

I know this is probably a silly post, but I've been reading about calibrating your iPod battery.
I got my iPod yesterday (Nov. 24) for my b-day, and I initially charged it for the four hours while it was updating my library, I then played a few music videos, an episode of LOST, and listened to some music, the battery did not drain and I put it on the charger last night.
Can I still calibrate the battery by letting it run out and then charging it?

The FAQ doesn't specifically cover that but I shouldn't think it's a problem, it says this about the first charge
Question: Do I need to "prime" my iPod's battery by letting it charge for 24 hours before I use it the first time?
Answer: No. Just charge the battery until the indicator says the battery is full.
