HELP Ipod won't reset or restore or show when plugged into computer

I've done everything it's told me to. From the 5 r's on. My Ipod was playing then stuck, I turned it on and off again and now its frozen in the photo section. I won't do anything, nor will it show up on my PC (windows) when plugged into my computer. HELP....Thanks!

If this is brand new, you might want to think about returning it for an exchange. You shouldn't need to fool around trying to solve this issue with a brand new unit.

My iPod itouch when plugged into computer just flashes the apple logo otherwise it just won't start. Try to reset -nothing.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

I recently had water damage and dried the phone out. Now it will not turn on unless plugged into wall outlet and it tells me to restore with itunes...I go to plug into computer and does not work...why is this?

How can you not know your Apple ID?
You can recover it at https://iforgot.apple.com/appleid
If you can not recover it there, you will have to call AppleCare and speak to someone in account security.

  • Ipod touch won't turn on or respond to being plugged into computer. help?!

I was using my ipod touch yesterday, no problems. Today, I come to listen to some music and it's dead. I try turning it on- unresponsive. Place it in my docking station (usual place I charge it most days)- unresponsive. Plug it into itunes on my laptop- unresponsive. Screen is just black. Won't reset. It also overheats near the connection if I connect it to my docking station or my usb. Anyone help?!

You can try placing the iPod in recoverymode to see if that will allow iTunes to see the iPod so you can restore the iPod. For recovry mod see:
iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to update or restore
However, From the hot symptom, I suspect you have a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • When plugged into computer a song started skipping, pressed pause but ipod sounds makes a clicking sound. Eventually goes to black screen with red cross. Cannot reset it and doesn't register on my computer.

I had my iPod plugged into my computer and was playing the songs from there. One song started skipping so I pressed the pause button, the ipod kept making a clicking sound like it was still struggling to play the song, eventually went to a black screen with a red cross with apple.com/support/ipod underneath. Have tried to reset it but does not work, comes up with apple logo and immediately makes the clicking sound and then crashes.
Is there anyway I can get my music and photos off?? I just got a new computer and had lost everything on my old one so only have the songs and photos on my ipod, desperately want to get them on to my computer.

You may have damaged the HDD which is located in that spot. I would take it in for service.

  • My ipod nano 6th gen will only turn on when plugged into a power source.

My ipod nano 6th gen ONLY turns on when it is plugged into a power source. As soon as I unplug it, it turns off. I also tried to reset it and it did not help. Any suggestions?

    Howdy mela1223,
If I understand correctly your iPod will not stay on unless you have the charger plugged in even after resetting it. Normally this would indicate a hardware issue that would need a repair but to cover all the bases before that, the last troubleshooting that can be done for it would be to restore it with iTunes on a computer.
Restoring iPod to factory settings - Apple Support
    How to restore iPod
Verify that you have an active Internet connection, because you may need to download new versions of the iTunes and iPod Software.
Download and install the latest version of iTunes if necessary.
Open iTunes. Connect your iPod to your computer using the USB or FireWire cable that came with your iPod.
After a few moments, your iPod will appear in the Source panel in iTunes.
Select your iPod in the Source panel. You will see information about your iPod appear in the Summary tab of the main iTunes window.
    Click Restore.
If you are using a Mac, you will be asked to enter an administrator’s name and password.
A progress bar will appear on the computer screen, indicating that stage one of the restore process has begun. When this stage is done, iTunes will present one of two messages with instructions specific to the iPod model you are restoring.
Disconnect iPod and connect it to iPod Power Adapter (typically applies to older iPod models).
Leave iPod connected to computer to complete restore (typically applies newer iPod models).
During stage two of the restore process, the iPod displays an Apple logo as well as a progress bar at the bottom of the display. It is critical that the iPod remain connected to the computer or iPod power adapter during this stage.
Note: The progress bar may be difficult to see, because the backlight on the iPod display may be off.
After stage two of the restore process is complete, the iTunes Setup Assistant window will appear. It will ask you to name your iPod and choose your syncing preferences, as it did when you connected your iPod for the first time.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Take care,
    Sterling

  • IPod Touch not recognized by iTunes and not charging when plugged into computer

I plugged in my iPod touch to my Mac computer. My iPod doesn't charge and iTunes isn't recognizing it. I have turned my iPod on/off, I have reset it, I have the newest version of iTunes, and I restarted my computer. Nothing has helped. What do I do?

Did it sync to the computer before?
What model iPod do you have and what iOS is installed?
Your post states that your have OSX 10.4.11. If you updated the iOS on your iPod on another computer your computer may not recognize the iPod.  The newer iOS require 10.5.8 or higher.

  • Changes made to iPod on device revert when plugged into computer/iTunes

Guys when I make playlist changes to my white iPod touch out in the world they revert when I come home and plug it into iTunes. Had this prollem once in the past and it seemed to fix itself with an updates. But when I click updates now it says I don't need any.

An iPod (except for iPod touch) is not directly related (in a technical way) to an Apple ID.  You can use a shuffle even if you don't have an Apple ID.  And there is no way for Apple to "link" to a shuffle (like it can with an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch).  So, I don't think the two things are related.
The Apple ID may have become disabled if someone tried to log in unsuccessfully (gave wrong password) more than a certain consecutive number of times.  You'll need to contact Apple customer support, using the Contact Us link at the bottom right corner of this web page.  First, try logging in with the Apple ID, to confirm it is really disabled.  There are some sophisticated scams out there these days, that try to trick you into revealing your username and password with fake emails.  Actually, if you are posting here after logging in with that Apple ID, it is not disabled.
For the shuffle, which model is it?  This document shows the four types
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1719
If the light on the shuffle does not come on when connected, there is no power getting to the shuffle (which explains what you describe).  The possible causes are (1) the USB port not working or not supplying sufficient power, (2) a faulty USB docking cable, or (3) a problem on the shuffle (such as a bad headphones jack or logic board).
If you can rule out (1) and (2) with some troubleshooting, the cause is more likely to be (3).  If you use a USB hub, be sure to try it with a direct USB port on the computer, and test that port with something else (preferably something similar like a USB flash drive or port-powered external drive).  If you have another USB docking cable, or if you can try the cable you have with another 4th (or 3rd) gen shuffle, that wound be a good test.

  • Ipod won't reset or restore

After a couple of months of fighting the 5.whatever itunes update, I decided to restore my ipod so I could download songs off of itunes again. But when I try, I get an error message that says that the update requires Mac OS 10.2.8 or higher. I have 10.3.9, so what's the deal? Help please!
    Don

I also have a similar problem. The ipod shows a folder everytimne i turn it on. I have tried to reset it suing every possible software from aple but it does not work. Some have taken well over 15 hours just to get some25% of it hope fully done...what do I do now?

  • IPod won't turn off when plugged into computer! PLZ HLP!

I have an iPod touch 2g, and now whenever I connect it to iTunes, it won't turn off. It will just turn itself back on.

If you are unable to give specifics about the problem or what you need to do, it's going to be rather hard to give you recommendations or alternate suggestions.
As I said, if I recall correctly, the iPod will stay on if it's being charged. But, in case I'm misremembering, are you holding down the button until you see the red arrow that says "Slide to power off"? Have you tried restoring it?

  • Ipod frozen and wont reset or come up when plugged into computer

My Ipod randomly froze, and it is stuck in this weird screen with light green, yellow, pink, and white stripes... I've tried holding the top button nothing happened, I've holding the menu button and top button nothing happened, and I've tried plugging it into my computer and it did not register in Itunes. I have had this Ipod for two years and never once have I ever dropped it or gotten it wet. It is a Ipod touch 4th G.

    - Try:
iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - If not successful and you can't turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for at least an hour try the article again.
    - If still problem that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Ipod locks up when plugged into computer

I just downloaded itunes 7. And my video ipod came up on the desktop and in itunes as usual. Then I updated my ipod with the latest software and from now on whenever I plug it into my computer it instantly locks up and is not recognized by my computer. Suggestions?
    Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

I'm having a very similar problem. Upon first connecting (after iTunes 7 update) my iPod to my Windows notebook, it prompted me to update my iPod. So of course I said ok.... While trying to update the iPod it (the iPod) frooze and didn't install the update. I found a workaround to trick to to install. (Tell it to update it, disconnect for a few seconds and reconnect, it won't freeze and will restart and install the update.)
Anyhow, now that the iPod has been updated to 1.2 software, I get artifacts on the screen (blocks & lines of various colors) and eventually it freezes up. I thought I'd try to restore the iPod, however, doing so did NOT really help. I still get the screwed up screen and frozen iPod! Although, it didn't freeze when it was updating the iPod with all my content (had prior to restoring).
Not sure what Apple did, but they sure messed this one up!!
EDIT: I found this post, which describes exactly what I've been dealing with... http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=637616&tstart=0
