Help! Is my computer finished??

I am from the United States but I am currently traveling throughout Europe with my Macbook. I bought a European adaptor from an Apple store, plugged my computer in (it worked just fine) and the next morning I pulled my computer out of its case and it will not turn on. When I press the power button I can hear it trying to turn on and then it faintly dies. The screen rarely does anything (twice I the apple sign popped up on the screen and then disappeared to an all black screen) the battery says that it is charged up..I don't know what else to do!!

1. Find an Apple outlet, retailer or the like and take it in for repair.
2. You could try one or both of the following:
Reset PRAM and NVRAM;
Resetting MacBook and MacBook Pro Power Management Unit (PMU).
It the above doesn't work, then try the first suggestion.

  • Is there a way to help my desktop computer?

    Hi everyone,
My issue is concerning my desktop computer at work. I'm not very technical, so please bare with me.
It's an Apple, Mac desktop computer from anywhere between 2009 to 2011 (I'm not sure how to tell). It's running the Mac OS X version 10.6.8 with a 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, and 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3 of memory.
I thought maybe it was getting slow because it was running out of space, so I purchased a large external hard drive to backup all of my files on. Now I only have current things I need on the computer while everything else remains on the external hard drive. It has up 500 GB of storage with currently 223 GB available.
I've been noticing that the computer has been having trouble over the last few weeks running some programs. I don't use very many programs on here, I tend to stick with the following:
         - Adobe CS6 Master Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, and Dream Weaver)
         - Adobe Acrobat Professional
         - iMovie
         - FileZilla
         - Microsoft Word
         - FireFox
         - Safari
I do have many more programs on the computer, but I barely use them (if ever).
It rarely crashes, but I get the "colour/pin wheel of death" a lot, things take forever to open, and/or they just freeze for minutes at a time.
Is there anything I can do to help my poor computer? I love this thing. I would be the best thing in the world if I could help it live a healthy life (lol) . I'm hoping there is something I can do for it.
You guys have really helped me out the last couple of times I had issues. I decided to come here instead of Google because who would know better than the Apple community!
P.S. thanks to you guys my MacBook Pro could not be better! Thank you for always helping with my silly problems *high five*

Based on everything you have told us, Without a doubt, you need a lot more RAM installed in your iMac.
OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard can, at times, use up the full 4 GBs of RAM, for. itself, alone.
Your model iMac can take, a total of 16 GBs of RAM.
My advice is to install the max. 16 GBs of RAM.
Correct and reliable Mac RAM can be purchased from online Mac RAM sources Crucial memory or OWC (macsales.com).
RAM is user installable and very easy to do for beginning or novice computer users or novice computer upgraders.

  • Please help! - My computer crashed and I need help reinstalling my CS3 software

Please help!  My computer crashed and now I am trying to reistall my CS3 software.  I'm receiving Unable to Install errors for all of the programs in the Suite except the Acrobat 8 Professional.  Can someone please help me?  I cannot afford to upgrade, but need this software to do freelance work.  I own the software and serial number but Adobe will not support me as it is an older version.

I downloaded and ran the Creative Suite Cleaner Tool.  It showed no files to remove, but still said it was successful.  I then tried reinstalling the entire suite.  Acrobat 8 Professional was the only program that installed.  All other programs gave me a componant failed error.  Any other advice would be greatly appreciated?!
    Thanks

  • HELP!  My computer is acting weird...

In what way my computer was acting funny?  Well, for one thing it's taken me a month to ask for help because my computer would not respond when I clicked on the button provided by apple to move the screen forward.  My computer has been slow, and I mean S***L***O***W, and freezing up at least twice a day, sometimes more.  It's not letting me move into secondary screens when I click on the button, I can no longer look at picture galleries because the pics wont advance.  Now to me, it sounds like a virus, but then I'm told that apples don't get virus'.  Well, there's something wrong with my computer and I don't know how to fix it.  I'm not computer savvy.  I usually read my e-mail and look things up on the Net and that's it.  I never open mail that I don't know who sent it and I rarely , if ever download programs that are not sent by auto update (like I downloaded program so I could print coupons and Post Office labels).  Oh, I have been downloading pictures.  Could someone have attached something to a pic do you think?  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks!

Well it says one file is infected, it says this...
I checked my library and this is what I found...
    "Started scanning
Please note, large files will take a long time to scan.
    /Users/*************/Library/Application Support/Freeverse/Big Bang Board Games/BigBangMancala2.3.4.zip: Oversized.Zip FOUND

One or more infected files were found, but were left where they are. You can either deal with them yourself, or scan again with the preferences set to move them into a different folder."

  • Help! My computer shuts down semi-unexpectedly.

Please somebody help! My computer shuts down semi-unexpectedly. I say 'semi' unexpectedly, cos, by now it seems an accident waiting to happen ONLY when I play a 3D game.
Now, whenever I play a 3D game there's a good chance the computer just shuts itself down, without ANY warning. Can be within 5 minutes, can be after an hour, it sometimes doesn't happen at all.
After this the computer will not start up at all, and the D-bracket tells me the processor is the culprit. At first I waited a while (+/- one hour) and the thing would start up again as if nothing happened.
After it started happening more frequently (or maybe I should say, 'after it didn't go away by itsself') I just didn't wait, but tried to find out what went wrong, and how to fix it.
All I have learned so far is that if -after a 'radical shutdown'- I release the levers on my processor's heatsink, and wiggle it a bit, then refasten them the computer will start up again, no problem. But ONLY if I disconnect the powercable from my machine ENTIRELY first.
I'm don't have the technical knowledge myself to make anything out of this, and am at my wit's end by now.
    My specs:
    mobo: 865PE-NEO2
    mem: 512MB Pc3200 dual channel
    processor: PIV 2.4GhZ
    video: Radeon9700PRO
    PSU: 400W
    Also:
    - All BIOS frequencies are at default
    - Got six ventilators in a case that is always open.
    - Got Corecenter running in the background with very tight temperature alert settings.
    - I have no other problems with my computer, and I do not overclock.
All this at least leads me to believe it's not a power-, frequency- or heat issue. But then again, I'm no expert. At all.
Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Juju

    Is ur CPU OCed ?????
And whats ur VDimm, cuz i had the same Problem when running Gothic II with all details aon 1600x1200 2xAniso & 4xFSAA.
I believe the Problem is that ur RAM shuts down under full load if ur VDimm is too low, because all MSI Boards dynamically OC a littel (3-4 Mhz FSB) when running under full load (I read that on http://www.tomshardware.com).
On my system with standard Vdimm @2.5 V and FSB Oced to 250 my system would crash almost everytime when I played Gothic II. Then i found out that the board booted at 407 Mhz DDR Clock. That's when i started suspecting that my Rams couldn't handle 407 Mhz when running at an extremely low 2.5 VDimm.
    So try the following:
-Increase VDimm from 2.5 up to 2.7 V in small steps and check ur system stability every time stop when everything seems fine.
-If u'r Oced don't go for FSB 250 (and multiplier at 5:4) try sth. like 243 so even if dynamically oced ur Rams won't go too far above 400 Mhz.
P.S.: My VDimm is now at 2.6 and FSB at 244 and everything is fine.

I need help syncing my computer outlook email (through Yahoo) with my iphone.  When I delete an email on my computer it is still in my inbox on my phone. Please help.

Your computer is probably set up to access your Yahoo mail using POP3. POP3 does not synchronize with the server. For full synchronization, you will need to use IMAP instead. See the Yahoo mail help pages for instructions on how to configure your mail client.

  • Help!  My computer is acting crazy!

Help!  My computer is not opening files and I cannot save or download anything since my husband downloaded his friends music collection (10,000+ songs). Did he use all the memory?  When I start up the computer it says my start up disk is almost full -- what does that mean and what should I do?
Also my mail will not update any longer.. what shoudl I do?
    Thanks, Melissa

Tell hubby to get their own computer, this one's yours, too.
You need to clear off 10% to get it back to function.
He needs to buy a couple drives: one for just their music library itself, external maybe NAS equipped. Backup disk drives. For the system. For your data. For hubby's data. ie, just having the data is one thing, but also a backup of the 10K+ files need to be also.

  • Need help Resetting my computer to the day i got it.

I have a presario RX896AA desktop and I would like to know how i can reset the computer as if i just bought it so it's like new.

Turn off the computer if it is not already off.
Disconnect all connected devices and cables such as the Personal Media Drive, USB drives, printer, and fax. Remove media from drives. Do not disconnect the monitor, keyboard, mouse, and power cord.
Turn on the computer and immediately press the F11 key repeatedly , about once every second, until Recovery Manager opens.
    Click Next.
A Microsoft System Restore screen opens.
Select No, I would like to see other options , and then click Next.
    A System recovery screen opens.
Click Yes , and Next to continue the recovery process.
The Recovery Manager gives you the option of backing up your data files.
To continue recovery, select No , and then click Next.
A recovery progress screen opens. Wait while files are restored.
When System Recovery is complete, click Finish.

  • Please help!! Computer dummy + water damage

I know this is a very common, probably annoying, question asked in Apple forums but I can't find a recently updated discussion page to post this on. My Google searches aren't really coming up with a specific answer, just pages of forums from 2005-2008. I didn't see any with recent dates, and I really need someone to give advice asap. I am in graduate school and desperately need to get my computer running again or at the VERY least find out if the hard drive is still functional so I can access my important files and transfer them to a new computer.
My Macbook was sitting on my bed, closed and unplugged. I am normally very careful with my Macbook, and I thought my Nalgene water bottle was tightly closed (it wasn't) and a safe distance from my laptop (wrong again). Since water bottles don't fly, I assume my cat knocked my water bottle off the bedside table and onto the bed....more specifically, onto my Macbook. I was in the bathroom getting ready for bed when this occurred. I came out of the bathroom to find a large puddle on the bed and an empty water bottle nearby. And just my luck, the Macbook was right in the middle of the puddle. It was about 15 ounces of water. The area surrounding the computer was soaked through the bedspread, all the way down to the sheets. I'm guessing the water was on the laptop for about 3-5 minutes while I was out of the room.
Here is what I did upon finding this disaster:
    1) I immediately moved the Macbook to a dry area, and used a dry towel to blot up what I thought was all of the water. Some water had even gotten to the keyboard/screen, even though the laptop was closed.
    2) I was not thinking straight and I know nothing about internal workings of laptops, so I performed the panicky knee-jerk reaction.... "ok, I got most of the water, I should check see if it still works" and tried to turn it on. I realize now that was a dumb move, and I am very angry with myself. But anyway, it began to start up normally, but right after making the Apple noise that it usually makes upon restarting, it faded to a blue screen with the apple logo for a second, then went black. I know this is bad, but I didn't heard any abnormal noises like something was being fried, it just shut off.
    3) I removed the plastic Incase protective shell. Note to self: it is not watertight. Some water was trapped underneath the shell, but I didn't realize how much had gone inside the computer yet.
    4) I dried off the top and bottom of the laptop
    5) I removed the battery. Water came dripping out. Sad times.
    6) With another dry towel, I blotted everywhere I could to soak up as much water as possible, and placed the laptop on a towel on a desk in an upside down V shape. The battery is next to it.
This all happened at 11pm on 2/2/2010. The Macbook has been sitting in the same position ever since, in a low-humidity room with an overhead fan. I do not have Apple Care but I know water damage isn't covered anyway. I've also read that Apple charges anywhere from $700-900 to repair water damage, so I might as well buy a new laptop if this damage is irreparable. Given my situation, my questions are:
    1) How much longer should I wait before trying to turn it back on? It has been almost 48 hours.
    2) Can anyone give me any advice (other than "be more careful next time") for what to do next? Does putting the laptop in a sealed box full of rice really help get the moisture out? How about a hair dryer?
    3) Should I follow the instructions on ifixit.com to take the computer apart to allow for more evaporation? Because if it is strongly recommended that I do this, I can have my fiance (who is very good with computers) do it for me....but I am very worried that taking it apart will damage it even further.
    3) If all else fails and the logic board is fried, can I still remove the hard drive and get my files off of it?
Any responses will be greatly appreciated.

hey, sorry to hear about your computer.
i'll try to answer your questions, so here goes:
    1. you could try again to turn on the computer, but the only issue is that the parts of the computer are already fried and might not work. you could try though, it can't hurt to try. also, when doing this listen for beeps coming from the computer. if that happens, i can send a list of beep codes that might narrow down what might have been damaged.
    2. i have heard that rice does work since it absorbs a lot of moisture. i've never (thankfully) had to try it before, but other people says it works fine. you might try that before turning on the computer again. it'll just get rid of the excess moisture.
    3. taking apart the computer won't damage it if done correctly. ifixit is a good place to go for that kind of stuff. just know that if something does break, you'll be charged for a replacement part (though it looks like you'll have to pay for some replacements anyway). this might work for drying out, but i'd stick with the rice to be safe, just because it doesn't involve disassembling the computer.
    4. if your logic board is fried, you can possibly recover the data from the hard drive. the only possibility is that water entered the drive, rendering it useless. if you are going to attempt to salvage the hard drive, you'll need another laptop to put it in or get a drive reader. it plugs into another computer and reads the drive through the Disk Utility. i'm not quite sure where to get those, but i'm sure you can find on on Newegg.com or some reputable computer parts store.
i'm not totally sure how much apple charges for water damage repairs, but it's worth going to a store and they can see whats wrong and come up with an estimate and then decide whether to get a new macbook or to forgo the cost of repairs.
i'm really sorry to hear about your macbook, but i really hope something can be done. write back if you need more help.
