HELP iTunes is messing up my music

for some reason, iTunes changes the song length of all my music and either cuts the song off or makes it super long, like a 5 minute song says its 24 minutes. And when i download it to my ipod it is cuttin off songs and others say they are longer than they are whats goin on?? i tried uninstallin iTunes and reinstalling but it didnt work, and the song files saved on my computer say the right lenght and are completely fine on any other media player, but when it goes to iTunes it goes haywire!!
please help

I have a similar problem with iTunes 6.0.2.23
Let's use Korn's 1:15 song, Dead. I double clicked one day to play it, and suddenly the song length changed to 17:15 minutes.
It's fine when I play it, because it stops after 1:15 seconds. But for longer songs showing up at like, 0:50 seconds, they get cut off and that *****.
Deleting them from iTunes and then putting them back in doesn't help.
Suggestions, please?

  • Itunes is messing with my music files...

I have a very odd problem and I can't find anyone else on the internet with my problem.
Since updating to the newest version of iTunes (9.1.0.79), when putting music files into my iTunes, sometimes, at random, iTunes will copy the song incorrectly, and somewhere within a minute of playing the song, the song will return to the beginning, but the track will continue to say the same time it reverted to the beginning at. For example, if a song is 3:00 long, and the song returns to the beginning at :50 seconds, the song will continue at :51 seconds, but the audio will be at the beginning of the song and will play out till the end, even after the song reaches the end point on the slider.
This only happens when I drag the song into iTunes. If I play the song from the actual file in the iTunes directory, the song will also revert back to the beginning at the same spot as if it were played in the iTunes program. However, if I play the original file of the song (before it was dragged into iTunes), the song plays as normal. I have also tried to set iTunes to not copy the files into the itunes folder and allow me to manually manage the music folder, but once the file becomes intertwined with the iTunes program, often times at least one song becomes ruined.
Has anyone else experienced this? If so, please help! This is really getting on my nerves as I haven't been able to find a working solution!

I don't think that is the solution. If you check back, this is a perennial issue that does not have a solution. So far.
In synching up files there will be various conflicts and having another text based list to compare before and after results of the sync might have some ability to determine what was deleted.
Synching contacts is just as prone to random damage

  • Help, iTunes can't find my music

I am trying to make space on my mac book pro HD because I am switching over from a 500gb 7200RPM drive to a 128 solid state HD. I moved my iTunes library over to an external drive and set the folder in preferences to point at the Itunes library on the external dive and Itunes says it can't play any of my music because it can't find the files. I have checked the file size of the file on the external and it is 15 gb - the files are there but iTunes can't connect to it.
    Any one goy any ideas?

  • Itunes has messed up my music folder

ok my music folder is on my edrive i clicked on organise music by mistake in itunes, and now when i go to my music folder everything is displayed as folders not media player icons how do i revert back to how it was

Create the folders you want. Drag the files from the folders they are in to the folders you want them in. If the folders they were in before you started are still there, use those.
    And no, I don't think there's a faster way.

  • Help - iTunes Windows not showing all music

I just discovered this - my iPhone has all my music and albums and artists are all correctly labeled and organized. my Win7 PC is all screwed up.
I'm not sure how/when this happened but at the moment about 700 songs are showing up in itunes without Artist, Album, or Genre info. In some cases, a few songs show up in the Album view and the rest are just missing. The only way I found them is by either viewing by Sony or doing a search. Most albums are still missing if I uncheck Group by Compilations.
All the songs are on my PC. I found them in 2 folders - iTune/iTunesMedia/Music seems to be what is displaying in iTunes. All of the ones missing info are in the Unknown Artist or Compilations folders.  They are in this folder and sub-grouped by Album and in Windows Explorer they still have the correct Album and Artist info showing. The weird thing is most of these are not compilations. I also have another folder /iTunes/Music that seems to have the correct folder structure but I don't think iTunes is using this folder.
I have tried several things. First i tried copying the songs/folders from either the 2nd database or from the Unknown Artist folder in the iTunes/iTunesMedia/Music folder. This did not change anything in iTunes.
I also tried deleting the iTunes library file and starting a new one. This also did not work but when it scans it brings up 2 copies of every song.
I tried manually importing a folder and selecting each album but this did not work, presumably since the songs are already in iTunes but not labelled correctly.
Is there a way to fix this? Remember my iPhone is fine and I do not want to have to manually update the info for each song/album to re-organize it.

any suggestions on how to resolve this?

  • Hi, I have just recently purchased a new laptop, I am transferring the music from my old library to my new library via USB and they are now sucessfully transferred however how do I get iTunes to automatically file the music in my computers documents?

I want my iTunes library to be saved and stored in my music documents in my laptop like they would be if you bought the songs but how do I get iTunes to do this?

  • I have a mess with itunes. Can't buy music online anymore as it tells me they don't have it avail. in US or I'm not authorized! Help!

I used to purchase music from itunes, no problem. Then I downloaded an "upgraded version of itunes" and it's been a mess since.  I can't buy
anything from my computer as it tells me the song isn't available in the US or that I can't get into the itunes store.  I bought music on my iphone from
itunes and then transferred them to my music library on computer.  I forgot how I did it and now newly purchased songs languish on my iphone (I don't listen to music on that).  I'd like to get back to purchasing music from my computer, so much easier, but I can't get a program from itunes that will let me do that.  For now though I'd like to transfer music from iphone to computer...what do I use and where do I plug it in on my tower?  Please give me step by step.  Thanks!

  • Itunes messing up my music files on my computer

I am sure that these questions are probably answered somewhere in this post so I apologize.
I have all my music on my hard drive in named folders for each artist, with named sub-folders with named songs for each CD/album.
    1. How do I keep iTunes from messing up these files on my hard drive?
    2. How can I import the folders into Itunes keeping the same setup as on the hard drive? When I import the folders, Itunes seperates some of the files into different places in the Itunes library
    3. How do i prevent iTunes from creating duplicate files of the songs/folders when importing them?
    4. When importing some folders, they seem to import but I cannot find them in the iTunes library?
    Thanks for any help provided!

  • Itunes has made a mess of my music

ok, i keep all my music on an external hard drive. i have changed the location of my music to a folder on the drive in preferences.
after loading all the music to the drive, 244gb, i conected to itunes and itunes started 'organising' my music. now i have lots of extra folders, duplicates and a total mess of my music.
what is even more anoying is that it looks great from itunes point of view but when i want to use it with another device etc using a windows explorer view it's a bloody mess with albums and artists now spread over several folders where they were all organised.
so here is the question.....is there a piece of software that will sort all my music back to how it was, moving all the songs back into their album/artist locations.
i have been looking and have seen some but they dont seem to do what i want.
    can anyone help please???

Once you have let iTunes restructure things there isn't really any undo. iTunes will group tracks by the same Album Artist, falling back to Artist if Album Artist is blank. This can trigger it into using multiple folders for a single album. Generally fixing things within iTunes will also resolve the underlying storage in Explorer. See my article on Grouping tracks into albums for tips.
If WMP ever had access to your files then there are bound to artwork files that iTunes has left behind as it has shuffled things about. See CleanDeadArt for a script to tidy up.
If, like me, you are really picky about your file & folder organisation then I have a script called ConsolidateByMoving which has options to use longer filenames than the iTunes limit of 40 characters and could be tweaked further if you were so inclined.
There is also a DeDuper script which you may find useful.

I recently upgraded to iOS 7.0.3 and now my iPhone 4S will only sync purchased music to my phone from iTunes. Help! I have TONS of music that I have bought and burned to my computer, but cannot listen to it on my iPhone. This seems ridiculous!

Also, it's taking FOREVER (over an hour) to sync my iPhone to iTunes...

  • So lately my ipad has been syncing my mom's music. I go on to itunes to make sure those albums have not been selected under my ipad and they AREN'T. Someone please help! How do I other music from syncing to my ipad?

My whole family shares the same MacBook and itunes library.
For awhile my ipad has been syncing other peoples music to my ipad, and when I check on itunes these albums aren't even selected.
Someone please help me!!!! How do I stop the unselected music from being synced to my ipad? (and for specific music, my ipad won't let me delete some music right from my music app)

My wife, daughter and I all shared one iTunes library on one Mac and synced 6 different devices and never had problems selecting exactly what we want to sync to each device.
Even though you do not have these particular songs or bums selected to sync, do you have "Sync only checked songs and Videos" in the Summary Tab of iTune? If you don't have that option selected, makes sure that you so check it before you sync again.
You should be able to swipe across songs in the songs tab of the music app - Swiping from Right to Left - and that will bring up the Red Delete Button. You cannot delete entire albums but holding down on the icon to bring up the X on the album icon. That doesn't work in iOS. 7.
If you are seeing songs in the Music app with the cloud icon on the right hand side, those songs are not on your iPad but are in iCloud and can be downloaded if you want to do so. If you do not want to see those songs, go to Settings>iTunes & App Stores>Show All>Music>Off.

  • HELP! I Accidentally deleted the iTunes folder in the My Music folder

HELP! I Accidentally deleted the iTunes folder in the My Music folder so I lost the two files
    iTunes Library.itl
    iTunes Music Library.xml
As I understand it, these files contain all the play counts, ratings, etc. and I've spent weeks getting this info the way I want it and don't want to lose it.
I have all my mp3 files on my desktop computer HD under a seperate directories, so I'm not worried about loosig origninal music files. I don't have iTunes copying the files when I add them to the library and I do have "Keep iTunes Music folder organized" checked. I have not relocated any of the original music files.
I have not auto synced my iPod, and I can open the iPod in iTunes and all my songs, with play counts, ratings, etc. are there. I just want to get the playlists, play counts. ratings, catagories, etc. back to my PC.
Is there any way to get the playlists, play counts. ratings, catagories, etc. from the data on the iPod and recreate the .itl & .xml files on my PC? I see there are many files on the iPod two of which look promising "iTunesDB" & "iTunesPlaylists".
Can someone please tell my how to recreate just the .itl & .xml files by using the info on the iPod itself? Again, I have not relocated or lost any of the original music files, I just want to get the playlists, play counts. ratings, catagories, etc. back that are stored in the .itl file.
I really don't want to have a software utility copy the info over as then I will have two copies of my music files and I've spent a lot of time organizing and naming the mp3 files just the way I want (not the way iTunes wants).
I've read many posts and it seems many have screwed up recovery by trying things without clear direction.
Thanks for the help in advance.

Try some of the more robust recovery/trnsfer programs. Several can recover the playlists, and metadata of the songs on the iPod. Do some reading on the respective websites.
These links will give you several methods of recovering whatever songs remain on your iPod; some free, some third-party software, some more comprehensive for restoring Playlists, Ratings, Play Counts, etc. Read them and their associated links before deciding on a strategy that works for you. There are many various third-party software programs that will offer a more robust process, or an easier GUI. Do a Google search for them if the links below leave you wanting…
Don King Resurrected: Deleted files from hard drive (free user steps – music recovery only)
MacMuse: Computer Crashed (free user steps – music recovery only)
Copying music from iPod to computer (a primer on various methods and software)
Copying Songs from Your iPod to a Mac or PC (resource for 3rd party software)
    iPodRip Software
    PodUtil Software
Senuti (Mac OS X v10.3 or higher Recovery Utility)
XPlay (Software For Music Recovery &/or Cross-Platform Functionality)
XPlay Photo Browser (For recovering Photos)
After recovering your song files, strongly consider developing a thorough backup strategy for just this type of situation.
You need at least two full sets of your music, not including what is on the iPod:
-- One full set on the PC within iTunes (on internal HD or ExHD)
-- One full set on an separate external backup medium (CD/DVD/ExHD/other)
-- One (full or partial) set on the iPod
Music files on just the iPod and only one other medium is not considered having any backup.
If you cannot store your complete music files on the computer’s internal HD, then create and maintain at least two external sets (any multiple combinations of ExHDs, DVDs, CDs).
Backup both the music files and the Library database file (iTunes Library.itl). What are the iTunes Library files?
Here is a post on developing a thorough backup strategy: http://discussions.apple.com/click.jspa?searchID=394618&messageID=1263275

  • HELP, itunes has lost my music!!!!

Hey there, this is my first post soa any help is appreciated.
Today i opened up ITunes and I had no music??? no idea why, it was just not there. After this I then connected my ipod to my MAC and it said that my ipod was linked to another itunes. I tried to import my tunes off my ipod but can not do it as when i look on my ipod it does not show any music only the contact files etc. I also get an error message comes up every time i open itunes after connecting my ipod that says ' the itunes music libary file cannot be saved. an unknown error occured (-51).' then when you click ok and close the itunes window it the starts to bounce in the dock untill it is opened again and repeats the error message again.
Any ideas? where do I look for my music?

It sounds like your iTunes library file is corrupted. This file is located in (home)/Music/iTunes, it's called "iTunes Library" and contains the links to all your music files (but not the files themselves), your playlists, playcounts and ratings. Your music files most probably still remains on your hard drive (the default location is (home)/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music, but the library file that used to access it can't be used at the moment.
    Try this to "revive" it:
    - close iTunes
    - go to (home)/Music/iTunes and drag "iTunes Library" and "iTunes Music Library.xml" file to the desktop.
    - open iTunes, it will open to an empty library.
    - now go File->import and select the "iTunes Music Library.xml" file from the desktop.
    Does that restore your library?
If not, then you can download a 3rd party utility like iPod Access or senuti to transfer your library from your iPod to your computer (this can't be done using iTunes) and restore everything that way.
Let us know how it goes...
    Sara.
