Help! iTunes says that I must erase my iphone because it's connected....?

I installed a new operating system on my computer (W-7), when I try to click the option to sync ringtones, podcasts, photos, etc. It says that my iphone is already associated with another computer and it will need to erase all data. Since it's the same computer, how do I go about letting itunes know that this is the same account?

It isn't the same computer since you installed new OS.
It is linked by the data that iTunes had stored about the phone. By re-installing your software there is no longer a link thus the phone will have to erase.
I assume you backed up everything first so all your data should be on your computer to sync back.

Hello this is happening to us also (minus the Bluetooth speaker). We can't figure out what is causing the data usage. I turned off mobile data as soon s I activated the device, and got the message that unless I am connected to WiFi.....(that is exactly what I wanted). We watched Netflix for about three hours, then the alerts started. Like you we have many devices connected and never used over 2GB now all of a sudden we have used it in a matter of hours. My husband called Verizon and got the usual doubting Thomas response. I understand that they don't know my device settings. So over the phone we check all the settings and turned off every possible culprit eating up the data and end the call. By now I have purchased another gig for the month! Assured we are NOT using mobile data, we continue on the IE path to bliss. HA! A few hours later I check the mobile data usage on the Verizon website and that darn thing is still using data. After two more phone calls and two VERY uneventful trips to the local store we were told to take out the sim card. This has stopped the data usage, but it defeats the purpose of having the data plan. I could have just stuck with my Surface. Verizon sent us a new sim card. Its been installed and I have set my homepage to Verizon mobile data usage (just kidding) but I am on that site a lot. I am surprised at the number of complaints about this device. When we called the Verizon support acted as though this was the first time they had heard about this. ITunes says that my iPod cannot be synced because I'm out of space, but the capacity display at the bottom shows I have plenty of space.

This image shows what's wrong. iTunes says that I need 1.74 GB more to sync, but the display at the bottom clearly shows that this isn't the case; it's the breakdown of storage on my iPod after a sync. What can I do?

It means you try to sync an amount of content to your iPod Mini that exceeds for 4 GB, or the amount of space that is available on the iPod. See this article for more details.

My ipad is inactivated. It says that SIM is locked and I shall connect to itunes. When doing so itunes says that my ipad is locked so it can not connect..... What to do?

My doughter borrowed my ipad and tried to guess the code.... and now it is locked. It says that the ipad has been deactivited and I shall connect to itunes. And that SIM is locked. WHen connecting to itunes it can not find the ipad as it is locked.... and I need to unlock it. But I can not do that..... Anybody?

ITunes says that my iPod cannot be used because the required software is not installed. Says to install 64-bit version. Problem is 64-bit version is installed already.

I have a 64 GB iPod operating on iOS 5.1.1 (says software is up to date). I finally was able to download iTunes 64 Bit to my computer and open it. Now when I connect my iPod to the computer, I get a message saying "This iPod cannot be used because the required software is not installed. Tun the iTunes installer to remove iTunes, then install the 64-bit version of iTunes." I have removed iTunes from my computer and downloaded the 64-bit version again and installed it. I still get the same message.

I see that you may be having an issue with compatibility of iTunes when connecting your iOS device. This sort of issue can arise if you have two versions of iTunes installed on your computer, which I feel may be the case. Here is an article that can tell you how to identify the version of iTunes that you have open:

If the version of iTunes that is opened is not the version you are required to use for the iOS device in question, try searching through your computer or applications folder to see if there may be two versions of iTunes installed on your computer. I think you should call via phone or perhaps take it to a phone store. I suggest taking your id, box packaging and other necessities such as the reciept of the phone being purchased.

Using a computer, other than the one you have regularily been Syncing and Backing up to, was the begining of your issue.

Let's try a standalone Apple Mobile Device Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of why it's not installing under normal conditions.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:

Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:

Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi (or AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi) to do a standalone AMDS install.
(If it offers you the choice to remove or repair, choose "Remove", and if the uninstall goes through successfully, see if you can reinstall by doubleclicking the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi again.)
Does it install (or uninstall and then reinstall) properly for you? If so, does your device connect without that message now?

i have done this on my ipad mini and my imac but they are still not syncing. my iphone 4 has the icloud symbol but it seems to be unresponsive to touch, I cannot get it to highlight or turn-on. Bit confused.

Thanks for your advice, I went to the apple shop today for a face to face meeting with a tech and he checked everything and could not figure out why I was having this problem so we decided to give up on that account and create a whole new one for me using a different email address.
Now I can download apps on both my iPhone and ipad2.
If anyone is reading this in Brisbane Australia go to the Chermside apple shop and ask for Wade. He was fantastic!

I was updating my iphone in itunes, then it said the update went wrong and now does not recognize the phone. Says that it is an unknown iphone and I must restore the phone. How can I get it back without deleting all of my stuff?

I was updating my phone in itunes and the "update went wrong" and now the phone is not recognized by itunes. I unattatched the phone and it wont turn on or off, just shows a picture of the itunes symbol and a usb cord. In itunes it says that it is an unknown iphone and is in recovery mode so I need to restore the phone. If I restore the phone I loose all my pictures, which I dont want to do...and my contacts. Is there any way around this, so I can get my phone back to normal without wiping it all out? Thanks
