HELP!! iTunes shuts down when updating (outlook) contacts

HELP!!
When synching iPod, all music and playlists synch fine -- BUT DURING CONTACT UPDATE, iTunes gives error "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
Have tried to click on "contacts" tab to disable contact synching, but iTunes application shuts down immediately.
How do I fix this, or disable the contact sharing "feature"
Have already reloaded newest iTunes software and still was unable to disable contact sharing
Thanks in advance for your help and suggestions!

hmmmmm.
do you have a feel for the times at which the crashes have occurred?
if so, let's have a look in your Event logs to see if there's any info showing up in there about the crashes.
right-click "My Computer" and select "Manage". click "Event Viewer".
have a look through the Application and System logs to see if there are any error or warning events that consistently coincide with the itunes crashes.
if you find a candidate type of event (or events), click on an example of each one to bring up a small window. note down the Source, Event ID and Description of each event, and report back with your findings.

It seems like you may be experiencing an unexpected quit from iTunes when importing a file into the iTunes library. I have an article for you that addresses this circumstance, and it can be found below:

  • ITunes shuts down when updating iPod

My iTunes runs fine until my iPod is connected. It starts to update the iPod as usual but after a little an error message pops up saying "iTunes has encountered an error and is forced to shut down."
    The "error signature" says:
    AppName: itunes.exe AppVer: 7.0.0.70 ModName: quicktime.qts
    ModVer: 7.1.3.100 Offset: 0013d270
I tried restoring my iPod to no avail. I also tried reinstalling iTunes and nothing.
    Any ideas? I'm struggling here.

Hey. I ended up redownloading iTunes 6 and it works now. I never actually solved this problem. I was downloading Podcasts though so that may have been the problem..who knows.
For anyone who may stumble upon this thread and wants to download iTunes 6 -- it wasn't super easy but at the same time not super difficult to find a copy of iTunes 6. Some internet sluething should be able to track it down easily.
When you get iTunes 6 you'll have to delete your current iTunes 7 library otherwise iTunes won't run. Just search your computer for iTunes library.

  • ITunes shuts down when I connect my iPod 30gb

I desperately need help. Recently my computer crashes and I reformated it. So I had to reinstall iTunes. Ever since then iTunes shuts down when I connect my iPod 30gb. A windows error message appears saying iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to shut down. I am unable to update my iPod which drives me crazy. Somebody please help!
I browsed through some threads which have similar problems as I do, but I am unable to reply in any. It says: This topic has been archived - replies are not allowed.
There's this thread here about the problem I am facing but I doesn't seem to understand the solution to it.

    Can somebody please help me?

A windows error message appears saying iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to shut down.
let's get a crash log from itunes, and send it to the Apple engineers for a look.
Typically, you'll need to configure Dr. Watson on your PC in order to generate crash logs. Windows start menu -> Run. Type in "cmd". Hit return. At the prompt in the command line window that comes up, type in
    drwtsn32 -i
    And hit return.
This will create crash logs in Documents And Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Dr Watson\. There'll usually be a file in here called "drwtsn32.log"
prior to collecting the itunes crash log, delete any existing crash logs in there. (we want to make sure we send the correct crash log.)
Generate the crash, collect the crash log, and and send it as an attachment to this email address.
in the email to Roy, be sure to include the following information:
    - A link to the thread on Apple Discussions where the issue is being discussed
    - The username you are using in the thread
    - The version of iTunes you are using or trying to use
    - the version of Windows you are using (mention service packs)
    - A concise description of the issue you are seeing
    - The exact text of the error message you are seeing

  • Itunes shuts down when clicking anything

My iTunes shuts down when I click anything on the screen other than the music. If I click anything on the sidebar (Store, Playlists, Library, etc.) or the album artwork it shuts down. I have tried pulling all the iTunes preferences out of the library and restarting the computer. This does not fix the problem. This has been going on for a few months, but I have been downloading the newest versions of iTunes and it continues to happen.

  • TS1363 why does Itunes shut down when I purchase songs.also when trying to download updates it fails to update.I am using windows 8

when I purchase songs Itunes shuts down.also when I try to update I tunes I keep getting an error message that says failed to download

I appreciate your response but not sure now if it could have been anything in that answer because.......
This problem appears to have gone away, not sure why but I have a possible theory. This is only a theory on my part as I'm not knowledgeable on the inner workings of Firefox. When I installed Firefox 18 it had all the automatic updating options turned on by default. By the time I turned them all off, I'm assuming it had started to download updates for all the plugins and addons, like java, quicktime etc. etc. etc. even though I hadn't personally initiated those downloads and updates. My theory is that once those downloads had started, even though I had turned off the automatic updating, it was going to continue downloading the updates that had started and was not going to stop until it had done so.
I do not disable the anti-phishing and evil website detection stuff but I seriously doubt the updating for those items would have consisted of 89 megabytes of data but I could be wrong.
So for now, I'll close this out and mark it solved and continue to monitor to see if I have any more "weirdness" go on.

  • Itunes shuts down when connecting Ipod HELP

Recently when I connect my Ipod to my Itunes a windows error message appears and shuts down itunes for me. The message reads that Itunes has encountered a problem and needs to shut down. I am unable to transfer any music, play songs off my ipod, or delete songs off my ipod. I have reinstalled Itunes several times. All of my songs are stored on my IPOD only so reseting would erase all of them. PLEASE HELP!!!

Yes this used to happen to me also. Heres how to fix it. If this event just started happening after you have downloaded new music, I know how to fix it. Sort your iTunes by DATE ADDED. Then start clicking on the songs or videos, etc. in order from top down. When you click on a certain one(s) and iTunes shuts down, this is what you do:
    1. Find the file(s) on your computer by doing a computer search from the start menu.
    2. When you locate the file(s), click on it or them and send them into your recycle bin or trash for mac users.
    3. Then open iTunes.
    4. Locate the file(s).
    5. They should have a little ! next to them.
    6. When you click on them, iTunes won't shut down.
    7. Just right click on the file(s) and delete them again, this time from iTunes.
    8. Reset your iPod.
    9. Connect it.
    10. Your problem is solved!

Some more info.................I have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes and Quicktime.  No fix.   I can access the store on my other desktop computer which I also updtated to the newest version, so I think it's some setting in my laptop.   As I said, it works great until I click on "iTunes Store" then it shuts the whole program down.

  • Itunes shuts down when ipod plugged in

my itunes shuts down the minute i plug in my ipod. ive unistalled and reinstalled ipod and downloaded the ipod updater but still same problem.
what can i do to fix this bc ipod is now worthless.
    thanks,
    chris

okay, let's try getting a crash log to the Discussions Hosts, so they can throw it over the fence to the Apple engineers, so they can have a look at it.
Typically, you'll need to configure Dr. Watson on your PC in order to generate crash logs. Windows start menu -> Run. Type in "cmd". Hit return. At the prompt in the command line window that comes up, type in
    drwtsn32 -i

prior to collecting the itunes crash log, delete any existing crash logs in there. (we want to make sure we send the correct crash log.)
plug the ipod in, collect the crash log, and send it to a discussions host
    in the email:
    (1) let them know the precise version number of itunes that you're using. (go into your "Help > About iTunes" to doublecheck.)
    (2) let them know the precise version of the ipod updater you're using.
    (3) include the URL to this thread so that whoever gets the email has some context, but also explicitly mention that you're getting this when you plug in the ipod.

  • ITunes shuts down when syncing iTouch with another computer

Decided to use a different computer(laptop) running windows. Have moved library via hard drive transfer. Went to connect iTouch- couldn't restore it, but genius bar got it working. Probable antivirus conflict. Now after updating software for both iTunes and iTouch and consolidating library , can't get sync to work. I backed up iTouch before attempting sync and it did import contacts etc. But now it won't sync music library. When I manually move an album to the device , now iTunes shuts down and becomes unresponsive after the first 3 or 4 seconds of the tranfer. Very frustrating.

look at this article.  The article give a link for XP.

  • New iMac but iTunes shuts down when I download or add "purchased" videos.

I just bought a new iMac, first I went to an Apple store and inquired that my main use would be with iTunes. I began to transfer songs from my iPod to the Mac using the Senuti file. The major problem is that I am forced to manually add the songs and videos to my library, but whenever theres an attempt to add any videos that I have purchased iTunes shuts its application, forcing me to reopen it only the find the video is not added. I did a test by purchasing a new video and I can see the download completing, but when it does the final part, again itunes shuts down and I've lost the video. Someone sent me a video gift and I was unable to download the video and the itunes store indicates that I have already spent the download, but its not in my library? I don't know what the problem is.

First, I'd suggest you make sure that your iMac has the latest updates: Mac OS X 10.4.9, QuickTime 7.1.6, and iTunes 7.1.1. If it doesn't, update and see if that improves things.
If not, Senuti may have created a corrupt iTunes library. You may need to delete the iTunes library files and add your tracks and videos again (and for any that haven't transferred from your iPod, you may wish to try a different transfer utility).
    Hope this helps.

  • TS1717 itunes shuts down when printing a playlist

my itunes always shuts down when printing a custom playlist.  Can anyone help me with this?

Friends:  Here's the answer to at least my problem of having iTunes crash most of the way through Step 3 of the iTunes Match process:  There were Voice Memo files mixed in with the music files.  Although both are listed as *.m4a files, the match system hiccupped when encountering them.
Solution:  Use the "Info" button to find out where the possibly offending files are located.  Go to that location and move them someplace else.
Once the offending files are gone the entire process works like a charm.
Now why couldn't Apple have told us that little "secret" instead of having us *customers* thrashing around in the dark?
Hopefully this will help someone else out there.

  • ITunes shuts down when I plug in my iPod

I've used my iPod without a problem since Christmas. For the past week, when I plug in my iPod, iTunes shuts down due to an unnamed error.
I have reinstalled all my USB drivers, removed all of my Apple software twice and reinstalled it twice (once with the guidance of an Apple tech via phone). The Apple tech guy sent me to the Apple store to replace my iPod, which I did. But none of that has fixed the problem.
So now, I'm left with an empty iPod that can't sync with my library because iTunes keeps shutting down when I plug in the iPod. The people at the Apple store said they couldn't help me further because I have a PC. The people at Microsoft won't take any responsibility because iTunes is an Apple product. So, I'm left with a $200 iPod that is suddenly for some unexplained reason, shutting down iTunes. So now, both the iPod and iTunes are worthless.
Does anybody know how to fix this problem? I'm a singer and depend upon my iPod for rehearsal, so I need it fixed ASAP. Any help would be much appreciated.

Sorry I wasn't very clear the first time. Changing the Drive Letter is done through Disk Management in Windows. I suggested you open the itunes preferences in hopes that you would then be able to connect your ipod without it crashing.
    To change the drive letter:
Since we know this trick works
First open itunes, then select Edit-Preferences and leave this open.
    Then, follow the steps [here|http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1493]
I use Q, R and T for my ipods so the computer doesn't confuse it with other removable devices.
