Help!!  iTunes won't launch and I have tried EVERYTHING!!!

HELP!! I updated iTunes to 10 in December and ever since I can't get iTunes to launch. An hour glass will come up, then nothing. When I go into Processes, it doesn't show iTunes running. All it shows is iTuners Helper. I have tried EVERYTHING. I have uninstalled and reinstalled 100 times trying everything from uninstalling, running a virus scan then reinstalling to reinstalling an older version, to disabling Bonjour to uninstalling Quicktime. I have spent countless hours on message boards trying to solve this. Please someone offer some guidance or a different solution. It is getting really frustrating not being able to listen to music on my PC or being able to update my iPod. Thanks!

If you have and it didn't help, at least you should know if the problem is system wide, or confined to one account. This is an important first step.
Error message free launch failure can be tricky, and it is easiest if iTunes.exe persists on the processes tab as that means that iTunes is launching, but getting stuck.
If you watch the processes tab in Task Manager while launching iTunes, does iTunes.exe appear and then disappear, or does it never even appear?

    Did you install the software that came with your IPOD. You may need to install the "Updater" for that model IPOD before ITUnes will recognize it.

    when i try to open itunes on my windows pc i get a message saying 'the folder "itunes" cannot be found or created, and is required. the default location for this folder is inside the "my music" folder.'
    my laptop was running out of space, so i moved my itunes library onto an external harddrive. when i next turned on my pc and tried to open itunes this was when i started getting the above message. i moved the libary back into the same place on my laptop's harddisk as before, but to no avail. when i pasted the files back, however, i noticed that the folder was no longer called 'my music' but 'eddy's music' (my username on the laptop, and i am the only user). my laptop isn't allowing my to rename it.
    i tried the TweakUI method suggested in the support pages but neither "my music" nor "eddy's music" appeared in the list in the special folders section. i then removed and re-installed itunes but this did not work. finally, i tried moving the library files and folders around, but again this did not work.
    what else can i try?

    ALternatively you may be able to work round this by doing a shift key start.
    Hold down the shift key and start iTunes, keep holding the shift key until you are asked to choose a library. Navigate to your iTunes folder and choose iTunes Library.itl. You can create a library if you don't already have one.

    Please can anybody out there please help me.
    Long time mac user who can normally fix this kind of stuff!
    So recently upgraded my mac running 10.6.8 with the microsoft office 2011.
    Once I did the upgrade, all office programs crashed.
    I don't use them all the time, but sometimes I need them like today. So I tried a few things but eventually decided to reload it.
    I downloaded it put in the product code. Immediately all programs kept crashing and running super slowly.
    If i go onto safari it is super slow then will eventually crash - especially sites that I need to enter my password.
    All programs are crashing. Could it be fonts all of a sudden?
    I have now deleted Microsoft office off my computer although I do have an old 2004 version which I would like to keep if possible as I do need office of some sort. I can delete it if need be and reinstall?
    However if I logout of my user Id - I set up a new one, it is fine. Obviously all my files are on the main user.
    Now I don't know what to do. Any ideas?

    Hi Csound1.
    No good. I did it step by step - everything remotely to do with Microsoft has been removed.
    All aps still crash.
    I think I am going to have to just slowly migrate everything to the other user I have been working as on this mac and eventually delete the old user.
    I have run fontnuke and although it did some things, it didn't fix my problem.
    I tried again to run etrecheck, but it keeps crashing.
    I also rang apple store and they pretty much said, sometimes the best thing to do is just do what you are doing and change to a new user.
    I will have to reinstall office at some point which is scary, but I will run that off a different mac for the moment until I can get this one more stable.....
    aaaghh apple I do love you, but at the moment, NOT!

    A divert is a function that allows you to either forward calls to another phone, or directly to answer phone.  I'm not 100% if those functions are available for AT&T (I'm from the UK).
    Can the iPhone 3GS play music fine? Can the volume be adjusted during playback, and is it loud and clear?
    It's also worth checking to see if the "ringtone" hasn't been changed.
    Settings > Sounds > Ringtones
    Select a different ringtone and it should give you a sample.  Try that and see if the phone rings when you get a call.
    Are you close to a local Apple store? It's worth getting some 1-to-1 time with one of their Geniuses.

  • PLEASE HELP - IPOD touch isn't recognised and I have tried everything!

    Up until I updated itunes to 7.6 my Ipod Touch was fine. Since then it is not recognised and I have tried everything - uninstalling/reinstalling itunes; resetting my Ipod, using another USB port. I have even tried to restore to the earlier version of itunes and my computer won't restore! I really need to update my music especially since I have gone and bought 3 albums from istore today! Is there anyone that understands this??

    Disabled
    Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.
    iOS: Wrong passcode results in red disabled screen                         
    If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

    If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
    You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
    Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store        
    If problem what happens or does not happen and when in the instructions? When you successfully get the iPod in recovery mode and connect to computer iTunes should say it found an iPod in recovery mode.

    I use free Yahoo mail webMail access because folders I created in webmail access doesn't get set up in Apple Mail. While I was searching for post about password and keychain issues, I stumbled on several threads that complain about Mail folder issues, so I'm holding off on Apple Mail.
    On the password and keychain issue that your post is all about.  I've been using login keychain to save and automatical fill my login screens for a year or so successfully, with Safari and Chrome. Automatic form fill also works for Facebook login. Unfortunately, about 4 to 6 months ago, automatic password form fill stopped working with Yahoo webmail, while still worked for GMail (Safari and Chrome). I tried deleting the password entry for my two Yahoo email accounts to start fresh, but neither Safari not Chrome will even ask me if I want to save the password. I was so frustrated that I eventually installed the keypassX 0.43 (password manager) that is quite primitive sompare to OS X's keychain (when it works). Probably no surprise to you yet.
    The surprise, to me at least, is that, for whatever reason, password auto form-fill from keychain started working again for Yahoo webmail login on Safari about 5-7 days ago. Still doesn't work on Chrome!
    Two tips I can share, at least with webmail access:
    1. Password is save only for one of my yahoo mail accounts. When I login in with my other yahoo account, I get no prompt to save the password, and form fill doesn't work when I try to log in a second time with my other Yahoo mail account.
    2. On inspection of my login keychain, I see a webform password item saved for my Yahoo account that works with keychain. The name of the password is: login.yahoo.com(MyAccountName1#). When I open the password item and look in the Access Control tab, I see Safari and Chome are listed as allowed to access this password item..
         I also an "Internet password" item with a name of just login.yahoo.com. When I open the the password item, it looks just like the password item created for MyAccountName#1, but the MyAccountName#2 is listed in the Account field. Inside the Access Control tab, no apps are listed in access permission. I added Safari and Chrome to the lists of allowed app, saved the password item.
    Now when I bring up the Yahoo login page(by bookmark) on Safari, form fill fills in MyAccountname#1 for name and the proper password and I can login in. When I change the name to MyAccountName#2, the correct password is retrieved and I can log in! Alas, it still doesn't work on Chrome.
    BTW, I changed the password item type from "Internet password" to "Web Form password" and saw no difference! I also edited the name to be "login.yahoo.com (MyAccountName#2)" to look like the web form password item that works, but it has no effect either.
    From my experimentation, here's my observation:
    1. A Web Form password item is created for the first account name(MyAccountName#1) for login.yahoo.com and typed as Web Form password. When I log in using MyAccountName#2, an Internet Password is created, but no applications are listed as allowed to access the password item, even when the password item was created after just logged in and logged out to yahoo with the account name and password for MyAccountName#2.
    2. Manually adding Safari as an app that is allowed to use the password item works. Doesn't work with Chrome!
    The version of Safari I'm using is Version 5.1.7 (6534.57.2). My installed version of Chrome is Version 21.0.1180.79 beta.

    Press and hold down the Power button for 6-10 seconds to force the computer to shut down. Wait a couple of minutes then try restarting.

    lets try to break this down into a couple different steps here. Will start with Imessages first.
    1. We need to make sure that we are currently connected to your cellular network or wifi. if you are not connected to wifi or 3g imessages will not send.
    2 lets reset current network - simple as turning on airplane mode and turning it back off after 30 seconds.
          settings > first option
    3 Now lets check imessage go to settings > Messages
        confirm imessage is turned on. If it is turned on turn it off for 30 seconds then turn it back on
    4 Test it out
        now attempt to send it to a friend with an iphone (on IOS5) and see if its working now
              Is the Imessage issue resolved?

    Try unmounting the volume on your iMac using Disk Utility. Then mount it again. You may need to reboot the laptop or relaunch its Finder process (using the Force Quit window) after remounting the drive on your iMac. Remember that no process may be accessing any files on the drive you plan to unmount, or the unmount will fail. Unmounting and remounting an external drive on my iMac made it become visible on my MacBook Pro after it had disappeared.

    I have now tried a billion things: None of them work. I still get the same error message, when I try to launch iTunes after logging into my user profile. However, I can launch iTunes 6.0.1 if I create another userprofile on my computer and log into that. But that isn't very helpful. I have also tried removing iTunes 6.0.1 and installing iTunes 4.7 instead. I can actually launch that. However, I cannot connect to the iTunes music store using iTunes 4.7 nor can I play any of the music purchased from the iTunes music store. What am I to do, except curse Apple for creating a version of iTunes that many people seem to have problems with?
