HELP! JMF2.1.1e installation Hell

Hi I hope you can help,
I've been at this for close to 4hours now with no joy.
I'm using Win2000 service pack4, which is running Sun Studio 4 CE, Java Run Time Enviro 1.4.2_03, JVM 1.4.2_03-b02, and Java Plugin 1.4.2_03.
I can't get JMF2.1.1e to work. It installs but I can't read the classes. I've look at the classpath, which after initial installation looks like this:
.;C:\PROGRA~1\JMF21~1.1E\lib\sound.jar;C:\PROGRA~1\JMF21~1.1E\lib\jmf.jar;C:\PROGRA~1\JMF21~1.1E\lib;%systemroot%\java\classes;.
I've changed this several times doing what the readme file & setup info on web have said to do but no joy, it still says there is no classes.
what the website says to do (which didn't work).
set CLASSPATH=%JMFDIR%\lib\jmf.jar;%JMFDIR%\lib\sound.jar;.;%CLASSPATH%
What the readme says to do... (both didn't work).
set JMFHOME=C:\JMF2.1.1
set CLASSPATH=%JMFHOME%\lib\jmf.jar;.;%CLASSPATH%
set CLASSPATH=%JMFHOME%\lib\jmf.jar;%JMFHOME%\lib\sound.jar;.;%CLASSPATH%
I have no idea where to go. Any help is more than welcome.

i'm using Win XP, jdk1.4, windows performance pack for JMF, Internet explorer 6.
but when i run the diagnostic applet, i get the following errors.
"1.Browser not compatible:JMF requires a Java 1.1 compliant browser. Recommended browsers are Netscape Navigator 4.06 or later, MS Internet Explorer 4.0 or later, Sun's Hotjava 1.1.x. If you are using older versions of any of these browsers, please upgrade to the latest.
2.Classes not found: JMF classes are not included in the CLASSPATH environment variable. Please make sure the CLASSPATH points to jmf.jar that comes with your installation. If you are running Windows 95/98, rebooting after the install might help.
3.Libraries not found: If you are using the version of JMF that requires native libraries to boost performance, the directory with the shared library files should be added to your PATH variable (LD_LIBRARY_PATH variable on Solaris). These libraries are in the \lib directory.
If you are using Microsoft IE with the JMF Windows Performance Pack and you still see this message, then its possible that you don't have the latest Microsoft Java VM for IE installed. Please visit http://www.microsoft.com/java and install the latest Java VM for your browser. "
i checked out the environment variable in control panel. the PATH was changed. but i corrected it 'n tried diagnostic applet again. but no success.
can someone help me.plz....plz......
